#Game Makes Computer Crash
116 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
same issue here, a friend has had to refund the game because they can't finish a single match, the game always crashes their entire computer, no blue screen, they recently swapped their entire computer except for GPU and drives, and it's still happening
no other game is crashing for them, tried a bunch, but it only happens with FvF
Kinda frustrating that there are no updates regarding this at all. The game being completely unplayable should be a priority bug...
Yeah, it's the same thing I've seen on my friend's computer: the game shuts down the PC completely and it's the only game it happens with.
its a new game, theyll figure it out, takes time tofix every crash
it'd be nice if they at least acknowledged it tbh
can't acknowledge everything
Just wanna +1 this happening to me, swapped around my ram sticks and had no issues yesterday but it has been continuely crashing my entire PC with no bluescreen in the past week >-<
can't seem to find a specific state that it always crashes in, though its usually when a big chunk of loading is happening such a new round start or entering a game
Hey!! So sorry this is happening. Next time it crashes. Can you send over the player.log file? It's under C:/Users/YOUR_USER/AppData/LocalLow/Brainwash Gang/Friends vs Friends
It's happened for me, so here you go! Hope it helps
Thanks a lot!
@tulip gulch have you, by any chance, recurrent crashes in other Unity games?
So far, nope. Haven't had anything like this happen in any other Unity game at all, not even a blue screen or a regular Crash-to-Desktop kind of thing.
Oh man, I haven't checked this thread in couple of days but yes. It's a shared frustration that it hasn't been acknowledged yet. My other friends can play but I can't. 😦
I'll attempt to send mine over a new player.log file!
I joined this discord server specifically to see if anyone else has this problem. Im scared of this game bricking my PC now because it has crashed and taken over my entire PC on startup multiple times. To the point where it wont even restart and I have to reset my PSU every single time.
I was waiting for this game so excited for it but at this point its a refund because I cant risk it bricking my entire PC.
Cant even kill the task with cmd prompt. PC has to be force restarted
Hope this gets addressed within the next 2 weeks or Ill have to refund it because its literally a non-functional product.
Attempted the play the game again today, and it had some lag up to boarding the bus.
After boarding the bus to start a private match between me and the bots - that's when the game crashed. Didn't get to load the level at all.
I restarted my computer from scratch without having a lot of programs on it, so I'm really lost as to why my entire computer crashes when trying to play this game. 😦
I just tried it today to where it crashes my entire PC now.
This game is completely unplayable for me and it's been like this since trying it out Day One of the beta. It's unplayable for me now, and I have no choice but to uninstall the game for good unless there's a complete fix for it.
Hey @mortal wolf @tulip gulch @lost parrot , we're still investigating this issue, and we're discarding possible causes. Could you tell me if you have FvF installed in a HDD? Or is it in a SSD?
Hybrid
Do you have another drive available on your PC?
I do
Which type? Can you try installing the game on that drive and see if it still crashes?
Try the SSD first
Will let you know
Thanks a lot! And sorry for the trouble
How did yall get your file compression so good for the install?
My DL's are like 500-600 Mb and the game is 6.5 gigs
Was able to successfully play 2 1v1's. No longer crashing on start and taking over my whole system and forcing reboots.
Was able to change characters. Play 1v1's on multiple stages. Edit settings just fine
so glad to hear it! Please, let me know if it crashes again and under which conditions
I currently have it installed on an external SSD.
I currently don’t own an HDD but I can try installing it on my computer rather than the HDD
Yeah, if you can try that, it would be nice to know if it works!
If it does indeed work, I think we can narrow down the cause. Don't know if it'll make it easier to fix, but at least we'll have some workarounds to try make it work when other people encounter the same issue
I have mine installed on an SSD. I can try the HDD though?
Update: After moving the install to my HDD, I was able to play several games with no crash.
Nevermind, it happened again. Though it took much longer now. Right before the shutdown, there's a brief moment of lag. Was able to play multiple rounds of 1v1 earlier today, and just now while doing some 2v2's it crashed.
Most recent player.log file from it
Currently installed on my computer and just went through a quick match. Haven't crashed yet and there's some lag.
Okay, it seems to have not crashed yet, now to figure out how I can eliminate lag on my end.
Just came back from the crash.
I was in the middle of a third 1v1 and before I could start the match, that's when my computer when down. Here's the latest one.
@mortal wolf @tulip gulch do you have Radeon Software turned on while playing? if so, can you try turning it off?
Still crashes for me
Update: Attempted one more time. Have to uninstall the game unfortunately as it's unplayable for me at this point.
Still having the crashes for me, little hesitant to test anymore as that would put me past the window where I would be able to refund the game if it's unable to be fixed. Which, I don't want to do because what I've been able to play is extremely fun! I just don't like the risk to my PC with it shutting off like it is xD
Any updates about this?
rigby
Just got the game but it's crashing like 2/3 matches lol
Get a short loading bar window that pops up and then it crashes
Does it shut down your computer completely too?
Hey! Sorry but no updates yet unfortunately. We're still looking at it!
I've decided to uninstall mine for good. If it's unplayable for me, I can't recommend it for anyone else if they have the same specs as mine. 😦
sad☹️
I'm guessing no updates yet?
Devs haven't said anything in almost two weeks regarding an actual game breaking bug, so I'm sadly throwing the towel on this one.
Not even just game breaking. Shutdowns like that can be damaging to actual hardware and to data. I recognise it's probably a difficult bug to diagnose and so progress is slow on it - but still :/
Yeah, my friends and I have uninstalled the game completely for the time being for that reason. The computer getting knocked out like that can risk a brick and I'm not sticking around for it.
Hi, just came back to say after repeatedly freezing whilst playing for a week, I gave up on the game; and then a week later, my PC’s memory completely gave out and stuck my PC in an unfixable BIOS loop.
I’m not going to claim that FvF was the sole cause of this (or even if it was the cause at all) but considering forced shutdowns can and do damage hardware… :/
The unfixable BIOS state did happen to mine, and I ended up having to reformat my SSD.
You're not wrong in that forced shutdowns can cause something to break down in the long run.
After installing the game, I had a lot of problems with stuttering in other games.
Currently adding a warning about this at the beginning of my Steam review. Thanks for the heads up.
Darn, ended up replacing most of my PC cause I’d been meaning to for a while now but I didn’t try that >_<
I really want to try playing it again when my PC is all set up and working, but I’m honestly not sure if I should risk it atp…
JEEZ, I’m sorry to hear that your PC got taken down by that
Tbh with this, I wouldn’t even try attempting to run the game at all if it’s that bad
Too many frequent crashes could end up messing with other files
Yeah, that’s true :(
My new parts are actually coming tomorrow so I’m gonna have to try and recover my files from the old SSD, hopefully it goes well and I can move past this experience LMAO
Thank you for updating your review by the way!! Would really hate for this to affect more people and assume it’s their PCs fault :[
I noticed you said AMD based systems but my PC had an i5 in it, just for accuracy!
Thanks for the info! Updated my review once more.
As a fellow software developer for a living, I'm surprised the devs still have not posted a server-wide warning, especially since we now have direct confirmation that the game can literally affect your hardware.
Bump. This is important.
Omg dude, I hope you're able to recover it. I reformatted my SSD too because I thought that it could've been corrupt and causing the files to crash.
After refreshing it, I still had the same problem of it crashing my computer entirely.
And that was after reformatting both comp and SSD to see if anything was wrong with it.
Thank you for putting that warning. I wish I could refund the game and the copies I gifted to my friends, but I know better now to stay glued to my notifs so I don't miss out on an update like this. Super disappointing really. I'm changing my review to reflect the state of the situation and how there doesn't seem to be any dev concern towards this.
Supporting the game just seems useless at this point.
I'm pretty sure i'll be able to pull all my old art from my SSD and hard drives into the new PC, everything else can go tbh </3
i thought id narrowed it down to a memory seating issue, i thought the game had overheated my memory sticks to the point they just burnt out
idk about overheated but you can just kill sections of your ram chips with constant crashes like that
i find it wild that there's no word on this so far, i understand if they just can't fix it, but at least they should have a warning and offer refunds to anyone who gets these crashes
Yeah, refunds if the game is unplayable are reasonable. My friends exhausted the Steam refund window by simply attempting to get the game up and running, and the devs being completely silent for weeks at a time makes matters worse because after 14 days refunds are not eligible, regardless of time played.
I got an update from Steam Support, thankfully.
That's what happened to my computer each time that it crashed. Checking the temps with MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner Statistics Server, it was much higher than most of the resource-intensive games I have on my laptop.
I wish they had a warning for this, too. I know the Steam support page lists out all the specs but I was completely caught offguard by the visuals. I tended to associate low poly games with needing less resources than high poly ones, but this definitely changed my perspective on it entirely when I felt that it was running super hot including my SSD.
Steam Support will give you a refund, but you can't use the typical responses like, "Having technical issues/game is not what I expected."
How I wrote my refund request was like this:
- Select my issue isn't listed
- Write out that the devs were super silent after multiple players in the Discord listed out the same issue including yourself. Mention how long you waited for a response, especially if your waiting window went past the 14 days of issuing a refund. It doesn't have to be a sob story, just write out the cold facts and Steam Support should get back to you.
I got my refund, and my friends also asked me to refund their copies as well - so I started initiating the process for them as well.
ah, that's definitely not the game's visuals being very demanding, gotta be some sort of really bad glitch
I hope it's a glitch that's fixed in time. I thought I was the only one that was having the "crash entire computer" issue but if other people have reported several times in the past that their game caused "crashing to desktop"... That made me seriously regret not being super glued to the notifs for the updates they were releasing.
I didn't see any huge announcements about the beta they were having including wishlisting them, but I didn't see that I missed the Februray beta until AFTER the game was announced to release months after.
from my group of friends the person that it was happening to has significantly beefier hardware than i do, and the game doesn't push my computer at all, I could feasibly run multiple instances
so its got to be a bug definitely
I did see that my friends' beefier software was running it better but there was some slight lag here and there.
One was on a laptop, and the others' on PC but for that to happen to both them... huge yikes.
It's something you'd expect while they're in the beta zone, or at least a slight glitch in the final mode.
Love the game and all, but the complete silence within this thread and the other previous threads is deafening from the devs.
This is the only response we've gotten from a dev after finding the FAQ thread.
I would say "if FvF crashes and you cannot exit to desktop without a hard restart, it's advisible to cease playing immedietely as contined forced restarts can cause permanent hardware damage." is more than fair
I would say it is definitely not that optimized as it could be, as im barely getting 200fps on my 3070, which shouldn't be that much of a problem for how small the game actually is. Even on the lowest settings I barely get to 240fps
Though I never experience the crashing issues, as it could be because I'm mainly playing this game on Linux.
And some games can behave differently based on the operating system.
I have 2 computers, and my 3070 is on my windows computer.
But yeah the game doesn't run that well as it should on linux either. But i chop it up to the game not being that well optimized.
I haven't experienced any game breaking bugs or crashes on linux, but it doesn't run that well as it should.
As both linux and windows i don't get that many frames from such a small game.
Anyone managed to fix this yet for themselves?
Hi! is this still happening?
i mean it's happening to me, anyone got a solution or something
it crashes and the last 2s of audio gets stuck
wont let me close the game
the fact this never got fixed really soured the game
