The Krita drop rate “error” is almost certainly on purpose to get people to pay for her/other heroes when they are released in case they then become absent from the game for 2 years.

He's not locked behind gambling as much as Krita is. Specifically cuz you cannot also pay for him

Skald first spawned the week that ER rolled out, which was December 2021. He respawned again in October of this year, I think.
Also, the details obviously differ but the basic message is clear: buy new content immediately because it’s likely gone for the f2p crowd for a very long time if you don’t.

As the person who was banging her head against the wall trying to fix Skald Ullrson's drop rate, I can assure you that his absence was most certainly not deliberate.
It was clearly not a nefarious plan to monetise, because... there was literally no monetisation mechanic there. No deals to buy him outright and cut through the randomness, etc. It was a bug, and - confession time - we still not entirely sure why he initially spawned and then didn't show up for ages, as his drop rate was comparable to the other Minions.
As for the intial question, there are no plans to add Heroes introduced via a Hero's Challenge to Dark Onslaught at present.

Macleod shards are available at DOD. Soooooooo do we get Krita and Bacon shards at DOD now too???

Macleod is also available in ER behind golden door keys, typically as an alternative to Dr. Flox from the looks of it so far he might be my first maxxed unique and have never actually used him 😅

Unfortunately it seems they dont care anymore… lots of practical/QoL adjustments are being ignored. While shelling out broken content behind paywalls left and right… i hate to think this game is deteriorating but more and more it seems to be the trajectory… fingers crossed they prove me wrong…
