#Insomnium is a band that can cause and heal a depression in the runtime of one song. Melodic #riffs meet melancholic lyrics and heavy drums. What's your favourite Insomnium moment/song/riff?
I used no backing tracks in this #cover video! All guitars are recorded and all other instruments are midi tracks programmed and mixed from scratch! Enjoy...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWzzkD78ETA this is a great watch
In the late 90s, Questlove helped found a collective of musicians and artists including D'Angelo, James Poyser, J Dilla, Erykah Badu, Common, Bilal, and others like Q Tip, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and Pino Palladino.
They were dubbed, somewhat accidentally, the "Soulquarians" and this collection of albums is some of the best music ever recorded a...

Fav Song: ||All I Ask||
||From the opening couple songs here I didn't think I was in the mood for this but it definitely won me over as it went on. Very enjoyable album and I can see why they are so popular down under, it's very palatable to all audiences. Doesn't fall into a trap of becoming boring because of this this, tho. good stuff||
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Rating: ||10||
Favorite Songs: ||Only Shallow, Loomer, Touched, To Here Knows When, When You Sleep, I Only Said, Come In Alone, Sometimes, Blown a Wish, What You Want, Soon||
Comments: ||Often imitated, never duplicated, My Blood Valentine's Loveless still remains as one of the most influential albums of all time. The album incorporates elements of alternative rock, noise rock and dream pop. The resulting sound ended up launching a new genre called shoegaze, which is defined by heavily distorted guitars and washed out, droning vocals. These elements get introduced immediately with one of my personal favorite openers of any album "Only Shallow". That unique guitar riff with its chunky and shrieking tone adds a level of noise and tension without being harsh to the ears. We also get Bilinda Butcher's ethereal vocals that hang so softly on the mix and helps build onto the soft, hazy, atmospheric ambiance that defines every song on the tracklist. Interestingly enough, the drums are so crisp compared to the rest of the instrumentals which gives every track a grounded pulse that contrasts so well to the rest of the instrumental layers. All of these elements are present throughout the album and yet every song has a unique fingerprint, which tells its own story. The album runs at a tight 49 minutes and has one of the best flows of any tracklist. One of my personal favorite albums of all time and one of the most essential albums of the 90s.||
Paul Simon - Graceland
Rating: ||7.3||
Favorite Songs: ||The Boy In the Bubble, Graceland, You Can Call Me Al||
Comments: ||Paul Simon puts together one of his more unique and controvertial albums to date. He makes a set of tracks that combines Western folk and pop rock with South African musical styles and produces an incredibly lush soundscape. The grooves are catchy and funky and are chock full of fun, interesting bass lines. Simon's use of different vocal styles provides every track with its own identity. In this album, he gave South African music a large platform to showcase itself to the mainstream and did it in a way that was respectful to the original source material while still being incredibly fun, catchy music.||
Queen - Queen II
Rating: ||8.3||
Favorite Songs: ||White Queen (As It Began), The Loser In the End, The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke, Nevermore, The March of the Black Queen, Funny How Love Is||
Comments: ||Legendary rock band Queen's sophomore album continues to push their dramatic, theatrical & grandiose sound further on Queen II. We get a varied musical palette on this album and the band does a good job shifting seamlessly between anthemic rock, glam rock, rock n' roll, art rock and rock ballads with Freddie Mercury's incredible performances being the backbone. His charisma and vocal ability just give every song a life of its own while maintaining so much energy throughout each track. The musicianship is all excellent, especially the strong angelic vocal harmonies that help define Queen's sound. Unfortuantely, there are spots throughout the tracklist where the mix sounds really crunchy, especially on the drums. Still this is a great collection of rock songs from one of the most beloved rock bands of all time.||
Lorde - Melodrama
Rating: ||7.9||
Favorite Songs: ||Green Light, Sober, Homemade Dynamite, Liability, Hard Feelings/Loveless||
Comments: ||Lorde and producer Jack Antonoff team up to create a collection of art pop & electropop bangers on Lorde's sophomore album, Melodrama. First off, the mixing on the album is excellent. Every instrumental layer has a defined purpose and it's all crystal clear. The musical variety is quite nice on the album as well: not just art pop and electropop, but a bit of future funk, some industrial instrumentals, noise pop and orchestral instrumentation as well. There are still some very sugary sweet pop songs as well, but it all works within the concept on the album. The album focuses on giving this atmospheric, dreamy quality while playing with so much space and openness. Lorde's vocals are mixed very far forward which helps fill that space and she delivers excellent performances throughout the album. Even though not every song hits hard for me, Lorde and Antonoff really did some magic on this album and built a great collection of tracks.||

Huh? lol
That's more drone and noise influeced right?
Idk if that would suit my taste tbh
If it leans more towards sludge, with crazy heavy riffage, i'm on it
Yup
My experience with noise is non existant lol
Maybe some noise rock, but is more "conventional" altogether
Okok
Ah i listened to it, almost when it came out

THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP - EMINEM
Comments: ||Although I really don't fuck with Em a single bit anymore, it is undeniable that this one right here is part of the hip-hop essentials, the lyricism and the aggressive, word stacked paced flow that he brought to the game is really plausible during all his early work this being the peak of all of it, and not only that but also being one of the biggest punch-liners from the early days of it until now omitting of course he got too unnecessarily trolly with the years to come which also led to his downfall as an artist but that's another story, but overall it was also one of his biggest forts in his early career, along with the iconic storytelling he was developing but that also was a huge highlight in this album in general. About the samples and beats, he never really stood out for being too prolific there yet songs like Stan or The Real Slim Shady are to recognize on how well executed they were and how timeless they became for the same reason. Great album, cringe dude.||

i swear its good

.fm np
I tried to do this but realized other people have terrible taste in music so now I have to make my own
I also like doing playlists for specific moods
I mean I don't like it but I feel like I need to
i have so much variety in my rap playlist, only two different artists
idc too much about the individual songs but more like the vibe of the music
For kpop I mostly do tiered playlist, I have ok songs, I have good songs, and I have "blast" songs that fit for driving
it will be background music anyways
I've listened to my own playlists too much I'm so tired of all of the tracks and need something new
even though they're like 1000 songs
maybe because Spotify keeps playing the same songs every day
so, my skip hotkey sees frequent use as I skip maybe 70%

TRUE
This is why I try to make playlists by mood, because sometimes funny pop songs doesn't cut it if I need some meshuggah in my life
i barely add anything now
because I want to only add the good songs
but then I rarely pay enough attention to know which tracks were the good ones
and I have to replay the album
and then it happens again
i can go through the whoel album without realising the track changed
yeah
this is more common with metal
This is why I don't even seek for new music that much, I know what I like and happily listen to those years on repeat. If I find new music I like to actually listen to it because otherwise I have no idea what I listened even if it was good
yeah I often have no idea what I'm listening to
just something that sounds good off a random death metal playlist
Also I hate spotfiy for variety of reasons so I don't use it much
If I had to start rating my music that would absolutely kill all the fun of it
i started to do it a few years ago but gave up
I have enough trouble determining if something is good or bad
if i like it or not
but then a score between that
lol
I've been listening to this one album with the intention of picking the good songs into my playlist. I've gone through it maybe 6 times but I still have no idea what was what because I'm distracted by something else
I like to listen new music when I know I'm not getting distracted, like while eating
Also if I'm going the background music route I make a playlist for it, if I hear something I like I throw it to "check" playlist that I listen to more carefully later, and the ones I notice I don't like I delete from the playlist, so overtime there should be nothing but the good ones left
might just have to do that and stop trying to gatekeep my playlist
might aswell throw the whole discography in there
I don't really do that because "I liked it before or it wouldn't be here, maybe I'll like it another day"
This is also why listening to new artists is draining for me, if I accidentally find something I like, the next step for me is to listen the whole discography chronologically
lol same
So I have some songs stacked up that I need to listen

Sugar Wounds — Sugar Wounds
also this is hard because I really don't have the patience to sit down and listen through a 1 hour+ metal album without doing something else
@floral steeple while your grindcore songs might be short, melodeath songs are usually 6-10 minutes and that x12 tracks it's a lot to take in
yeah
7 and half hours
that's a whole working day
Rarely I do absolutely nothing else, but something that is so autopilot that I can focus on the music, like eating or workouts
oh true
this is why I never watch movies btw I can't focus into it for 2 hours lmao

Problem with scrolling random stuff is if I find something interesting my focus shifts from the music to what ever I'm reading/watching
I guess focusing on one thing is a skill you need to learn these days
I was watching some music videos and it felt so different because I actually paid attention to the music when I had something to look at
yeah I'd imagine the drone bands don't feel like making a video for their 20 minute song
exactly
that's crazy
longest one I've heard is maybe the 16 minute periphery song but it stays interesting because it has so many different parts
Dream Theater has some long songs
Isn't six degrees of inner turbulence basically one 42 minute song, just split into logical parts on the album?
The hard part is keeping a long song interesting to listen to, which dream theater has nailed down with their songwriting instead of just repeating same things over long period

I've seen it called mid too many times and that they fell off recently so I'm hedging my bets.
there are very few kpop groups that I can think of that haven't fallen off tbh
and rv's peak is probably better than most
top 3 in no order probably twice rv and exo/bts
ik bts haven't been good in years but their peak was also pretty amazing
All I know is RV bsides are unbeatable
pretty valid
RV top 1 say it

Rating: ||9/10||
Fav Song: ||It Could Be Sweet||
||Absolute classic of the 90s and one of the essential trip hop albums. There are so many strengths coming together from the different elements at play here, the beats are so compelling but unsettling, something out of a movie and beth's vocals over everything match perfectly to the scene being set. This is an album that accomplishes the difficult task of truly feeling one of a kind to me.||

Fav Song: ||Protect Ya Neck||
||Essential hip hop album that I'm not just gonna slap a 10 on because some of the beats have gotten a little stale to me over time but that's just my feeling. the raps hold up for sure though and there's definitely enough talent and quality on display here to warrant how this album is held up in the genre.||
Black Flag - Damaged
Rating: ||8/10||
Fav Song: ||Damaged I||
||Great punk album that ticks all the boxes of what you want from the genre but Henry Rollins' voice is also a huge point of separation from the rest of the scene, he really sounds like an teenager thats fed up with society and it's great. Perfect listen for doing anything with intensity.||

POST ORGASMIC CHILL - SKUNK ANANSIE
Comments: ||Pretty cool, I really liked the voice and the more upbeat songs, never heard of them before but really made it for me at least.||
Rating: ||7.1/10||
Favorite Songs: ||Charlie Big Potato, Tracy's Flaw, The Skank Heads||
DUMMY - PORTISHEAD
Comments: ||Beautiful, one of Trip-Hop's Essential albums, Beth's voice is just simply so good and so fitting to the genre, and the beats nail it too, while being dirty, trippy, and a little quirky, still manage to be so assertive and visionary. Banger shit.||
Rating: ||8.3/10||
Favorite Songs: ||Mysterons, Numb, Pedestal, Glory Box||
ENTER THE WU-TANG (36 CHAMBERS) - WU-TANG CLAN
Comments: ||Two words for this shit: ROLE. MODEL. I don't know if you can find any other type of quality, intensity, and talent on a debut album of a hip-hop collective besides... idk, NWA? that level of Goated, and simply one of the best hip hop albums of that ever came out.
It's also lovely how most of the album concept is like, a fusion between street stuff, jazzy beats, rough lyricism, pristine storytelling and this spicy iconic note Wu Tang adds of inspiration from Martial Art movies and Far East references, such a blueprint combination that only them can manage to deliver and be cool as hell, and not only that but also having a lot of social connotacions and troubles from the black culture such as police, racism and drugs, C.R.E.A.M., their most famous song ever, is the epitome of all of it together, and Tearz is probably one of the deepest and darkest songs in the genre.||
||You can't really ask for much more when it comes to the members in it like, RZA's production and leadership all over the album, Method, Raekwon and Ol' Dirty with the goated bar and flow, GZA and Ghostface also shining, man.... enumerating Wu Tang members really feels like naming a damn All Star roster, they're all literally that good.||
||Only reason I don't give this a whole 10 is because I feel like even if it was a trendsetting, gamechanging, timeless album, it kinda falls a liiitle bit short on the replay value, like I wish I could blast this all day but after 1 full listening I need something to fresh my ears because is that much caviar in just one thing that I need space to process all that's happening over the songs.||
Rating: ||9.6/10||
Favorite Songs: ||Shame On A N***a, Wu Tang 7th Chamber, Da Mystery Of Chessboxin', Wu Tang Clan Ain't Nuthin' ta F With, C.R.E.A.M., Method Man, Protect Ya Neck, Tearz, Wu Tang 7th Chamber Part II... shit I almost named the whole album again lmaooo||
DAMAGED - BLACK FLAG
Comments: ||Hardcore Punk very first foundation itself, this album was conceived to be rough, noisy, and unpleasant, but then again that's also what makes Hardcore Punk HARDCORE: irreverent, no rules in it, everything all over the place, you don't need to analyze every element in it to perfection because it's really meant to express the art of being against everything built. That being said, sometimes it also can be way too out of bounds and have some flaws, and as a first introduction to it, it really falls into that slight pinoeer mistake.||
Rating: ||7.3/10||
Favorite Songs: ||Rise Above, Spray Paint, Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie||
i'm telling you bro
if it's goated, it deserves an essay on why is it THAT good
CROOKED RAIN CROOKED RAIN - PAVEMENT
Comments: ||Never was into Pavement to begin with, never really made it for me before, but listening to this one really helped me give them a new perspective, it was pretty good and I vibed a lot specially at the end of it, decent stuff.||
Rating: ||6.7/10||
Favorite Songs: ||Gold Soundz, Range Life, Filmore Jive||
ROCK BOTTOM - ROBERT WYATT
Comments: ||It wasn't as terribly blasphemous as I thought it was gonna be though, some hints of early Psych Rock but not as much, the piano is really off the whole vibe, the voice is pretty poor too, and in general I really can't see why is this in a prestigious list like this one, no idea at all.||

Comments: ||It's not bad but I've never vibed to The National's sound, and specifically in this one they shift into a more Mellow Pop than their average Sleepy Indie Rock so, I really got bored midway through it.||
Rating: ||5.4/10||
Favorite Songs: ||Sorrow, Runaway||
TALKING HEADS '77 - TALKING HEADS
Comments: ||Huge classic from the late 70s, and another iconic debut album in this list. It's probably the most "digestible" Talking Heads album if you're not really familiar with the band or the sound and it really show why: smooth songs, very catchy rhythm through all songs, just a fun album in general.||

Carpenters - Close To You
Rating: ||8/10||
Fav Song: ||(They Long To Be) Close To You||
||I didn't know who this group was but one or two of these are classics I've heard plenty of times across different media and for good reason. Album was a fun listen with a good flow, definitely a group I'll look into further albums with.||
Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom

Fav Song: ||Little Red Riding Wood Hit The Road||
||So yeah, this was weird as fuck to begin with and throughout the vocals and lyrics never really get any more bearable to me HOWEVERRRR
I found some of the soundscapes very interesting at certain points and there's definitely a lot of interesting and varied instrumentation on this thing. I kinda respect the guy's style even though I will never listen to this again.||

yeah so whats going on here, has spotify got the crediting wrong?
been listening to the twin version, it sounds so crazy good in english
both versions are great, if twin version had keena rap it’d be definitively better
and pitch change in final hook
yeah I wasn't the biggest fan of the rap section so it was kind of a win for me
also aran's english just makes it so smooth
the raps in their songs have a completely different tone than the singing and I’ve grown to like it a lot
guess it's something that'll grow on me
but anyways cupid definitely my favorite song out this year
kpop wise at least
love war / shooting star still for me
I got love war up there too
