err i'd say if the amount of people who're doing it gets larger
but our group seems to be small enough that it isn't too hard to navigate rn
but if it doesn't take that much effort to do, then yea i guess it does help
i just think once we're like 50 albums deep, are people gonna wanna see just their stuff together
Yup is good, just a bit over the place and messy for my taste, but is that type of sonic palette
Like i still come back to it
their own score and song
oh then sure yeah i think it's worth the effort
nope
hmmm
idk how to do it so it works the best then
as i can make an editor link but its risky someone will tamper with the data
i just wanna get the permissions right
I'll give the opposite to balance gg
Think I'm gonna hold off on 10s unless it's a masterpiece or at least what I consider one to be

BACK IN BLACK - AC/DC
Comments: || This one right here is a certified Rock Classic for sure, one of the most important albums from one of the most influential bands in Rock history so you can already have an idea on how iconic, impactful and remembered this album was, also being the band’s reinvention right after their main vocalist died on the same year (I think? Or it was the year before i can’t remember now), it’s just amazing to see how they bounced back as strong as they did from there. The elements in it such as the drums and the guitar solos weren’t the first of their generation but they definitely set a path for the other bands to follow for a good while, as I said, iconic on it’s own. The album is pretty heavy and consistent from front to back, with both ends being some of the most trademark songs from the band till this day, and the timeless song Back In Black is BUT, it really feels like despite being 10 songs there’s at least 2 or 3 that feels like absolute fillers, same sound, same structure, there’s even one that tried ti go slow and that felt like a straight nope from me, so there’s the first flaw I think, and the second one would be, even if this album is a trendsetter, they never abandoned the same sound for the rest of their careers, one can debate that can be good or bad but for me it’s pretty bad, a band should be able to morph and adapt into new times, new sounds, explore things, etc. and it wasn’t the case nor for this album nor for the band in their next albums.||

Surely my musical highlight for 2022 was this Tiny Desk concert from The Smile. Just how Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner were going to perform songs from their sonically adventurous album A Light for Attracting Attention was a puzzle not only to me but to the band. They...

|| AC/DC - Back in Black
Rating: 7.0
Favorite Song: Back in Black
Thoughts: This is just good classic rock, pretty inoffensive but a nice vibe in a bar. I think it's important to know that the members are more concerned about instrumentals than lyrics, which they consider just nonsense anyways. Another point of context is they had just lost their lead singer the album prior and almost called it quits. That's why the album is called Back in Black cause it was supposed to show they could still put put hits. Overall probably my favorite album of theirs, not something I would go to listen to, but certainly won't skip it at a party/bar. ||
Also my dad said that AC/DC is pretty cool
nice
ok so i think i have to rate the album to get the next one
so i can either use our average to get a rating, or give everything 3*

Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
now its time to listen to the rest of acdc then start thus
I hope they're not all oldies albums
the oldest one is 2005
Oh this one
A lot of it is, I'd say like 1950-2000s
espe did you rate back in black yet
Oh I gave it a word rating but I can give u numerical uhhhhhh || 7.5 ||
nice
fav song?
Maybe we could find where it officially ends and try to make a comprehensive one from that point till like 2022. Of course not 1000, but a good number.
Something like 250 albums, just a suggestion.
id assume someone has already done it
Rough, but I actually haven't listen to today's album. I've only listened to the single.
how many songs are on this album
Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
||Rating: 5.0
Favorite Song: Sweet Dreams
Thoughts: I've only listened to art pop and synth pop occasionally but I've found that more often than not, it always does some interesting things but feels like it never really goes anywhere or take it home so a lot of the songs always feel unsatisfactory or similar. As I was going through each song, felt like a lot of them caught my interest but once the song finished, I could barely remember much as I was moving on to the next one. The only song that I felt didn't do this was the song everyone knows, Sweet Dreams which is the main reason I didn't put a lower score for this album. It wasn't necessarily bad but I feel like it didn't really make an impression on me overall. Perhaps this genre just really isn't for me.||
Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
||Rating: 6.2||
||Favourite Song: The Walk||
||Thoughts: Its quite a shame because I didn't heavily dislike anything on the album, it just felt the same sound for way too long. If this was 45 minutes with some of the songs chopped off I'd be much more inclined to go back, it just dragged on. Can't deny the talent that's gone into it, but I can't see myself going back to do a whole listen. Some bangers though, The Walk really surprised me. Glad I got to listen to it once though.||
Cool, i'll listen to it rn

||Rating: 4.5 fav song: Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
Dont really like any of the songs besides Sweet Dreams so 4.5 is the best i can give.||
Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
||Rating: 7.8
Fav song: This Is The House (c'mon it has some slappin bass and spanish lyrics)
I enjoyed this whole thing quite a bit, althought is mostly synths and drum machines doing most of the work, i appreciate the addition of some live instrumentation that gives more of a band vibe.
The attention to detail is such treat for the ears, adding to the core of the songs and themes of the lyrics, like the subway sounds on This City Never Sleeps.
On the vocal side, Annie Lennox have suprisingly some cool, soulful parts with some runs, and a wide range of low and high registers.
Also before listened to it, i thought that the album would have some gothic undertones, but is more warm and poppy than that, but still retaining some edginess from that aesthetic and era of music imo. The tracklist is well sequenced , with the right amount of bangers and more slow, abstract cuts.
Being 7.8 at first listened, could reach an 8 later.||
There we go
damn nice
me too
I think with time my writing will improve
even if i dont like the albums too much its just good to listen to musical "history"
for sure for sure
im tempted to track the release year of the albums too
just to see if different people prefer different eras entirely
Ah gotcha
Well personally i feel like a 90's and 00's enjoyer, mostly because that were the eras where i lived lol
But slowly 80's styles grown on me
yeah im prob the same
my parents mainly listened to motown and that era when i was younger
Also is really dependant on the genre, like from the 80's i kinda don't know about that early hip hop for example
so i know a lot of those artists
Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambataa, etc
Yea, i just know their name and that is important for the genre lol

i'm assuming its the 40 min version and not the hour long on spotify?
both are remastered and stuff
i did the full hour long one
as it was the first that came up
but if you wanna do the shorter one feel free ofc
first that comes up makes sense ig
its probably the most relevant version
excited for this
that was my thought also
yea i realized that, my review was on the songs from the normal version let's say
YOOOOO
have fun friend
Has some bangers innit?
innit
I’m a fan of synthpop so I enjoy stuff like these
if anyone is a fan of this genre i highly recommend Boy Harsher https://open.spotify.com/album/6G1kayusfMD3mcRXtPty2k?si=OKsCAftERE6Olzvd52slPQ
i have finally reached satellite of love

Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
||7/10, Fav Song: Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This). I really liked The Walk before it and This Is The House, but most of the rest were just enjoyable listens to me that I'm not too motivated to save or go back to. Sweet Dreams is obviously a classic banger so nothing needed to be said there. You can tell the cohesion is gone when the bonus songs come in so I'm not sure if its right to include them or not (especially cause two are just remixes) but I'm still feeling a 7 overall on it. Expected it to be a bit better tbh||
good review
those synths were synthin though
the synthiest
SWEET DREAMS (ARE MADE OF THIS) - EURYTHMICS
Comments: ||As I said I'm a big fan of synthpop/electropop/synthwave in general so I digged this a lot during the first part of the album, up to Sweet Dreams which is like, one of the biggest anthems if not the biggest one among the genre. The use of the synth here sounds clean and adapts great to every track, nothing that you can feel too saturated or overflooded, but also Annie's voice plays maybe the biggest role in them, her tone is just iconic. Second half I didn't enjoyed as much because it started to feel kinda repetitive so that downgraded the album overall, you could've easily chopped 3-4 songs and it would've worked amazing anyways, but that's probably my only issue with it.||
Rating: ||7/10||
Favorite Songs: ||Wrap It Up, This Is The House, This City Never Sleeps||
also TIL they're pretty popular down here lol, my dad recognized a couple of songs while i was going through it and he's not even a music fan
hell yeah
Can I post my late thoughts on the acdc
yeah
Rating ||5.5||
Favorite song ||Hell's bells||
Comments:||It's not something that I usually care about but a lot of the lyrics being double meaning jokes about the dude having sex sounded too juvenile and not in a funny or interesting way. Also Idk I think party hard songs are kinda dull. Listening to the whole album confirmed the preconception I had that all of their songs sounded too similar. There are some cool and iconic riffs but mostly the songs blend into each other. I liked hell's bells the most for being the heaviest and most unique of the bunch, the intro actually got stuck in my head"||
I'm a bit late, but I'd be interested in joining
I don't usually like putting #s to albums, but I could give it a shot
I have to say
Dawn FM is an album that has aged super good

1 year later still sounds fresh
will add you to the list, and yeah its not easy to give "legendary" albums a rating but its just to show personal preference
if you wanna tag your comment as a note ive been doing it for the others
Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
Rating: ||6.8||
Favorite Songs: ||Love Is a Stranger, Wrap It Up, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)||
Comments: ||The album starts off really strong with Love Is a Stranger with the driving percussion and soft, dream-like melodies which sets up the rest of the album nicely. The mix is very clean, nothing out of place or muddy. I felt first half of the album had a lot of interesting ideas and sounds that mostly came together, whereas the second half of the album had extended motifs rather than fully fleshed out songs. I would have enjoyed a bit more variety and/or shorter tracks, but it was overall an enjoyable listen.||

Review: ||minimalism only works for me when I can buy into the vibe and I didn't buy into the vibe. Was bored except for the I could give you a mirror to sweet dreams stretch which was pretty cool||
I'm running the risk of sounding like a pedant with the current reviews
I swear I enjoy music
hahaha you're fine lots of genres to go
could be way off base here cause i dont have the history in me but i imagine a lot of these will be genre defining moments that appear quite simple to us now because of how far the sounds have been stretched
so some of these might not be as impressive on first listen to people in 2023
Yeah I’m trying to judge based on how trendsetting/iconic/defining an album could be for a certain genre too, that’s also why I gave Back In Black a high note
If it was any other rock album out there from a random year in the late 2000s would’ve probably give it a 5 at most
Yeah I think it's important to view and judge these albums for what they are and were. I'm not expecting a transformative piece of art from AC/DC, I know what type of band they are.

Fav song: ||Buried Alive in the Blues||
||This whole album gaved me roadtrip on a old van type vibes, somewhat of a conforting aura to me. Janis ofc kills on every track and has some interesting stories to tell and ideas to put out there for that time.
The band is on point with some bluesy funky tracks, which i really like, but one of the stand outs for me, although not one of my faves, was Mercedes Benz which is just acapella, that makes the messege be more effective imo.
My rating is cus there is not too much to unravel on 30 plus minutes, and kinda loses energy on the second half||

Fav Song - ||Move Over||
||I had a really fun little half hour listening to this one. Started off full of energy and intensity with the crazy guitar solo midway through Move Over and I just wish it ever got to that level of fun again but it mostly slowed itself down after this song. Still some really good blues rock here which is an easy genre to win me over with. The guitar and piano is so good on this thing. I also loved Janis' voice unlike one of you 😭 but I think the more unique something is in the music the more I am going to enjoy it anyway. Some nice variety of tracks and tempos here to keep things interesting. Def my favourite album so far!||
also much easier for me if i stick to 1-10 on a first listen basis

I already want it to be tomorrow so I can hear a new album lol
hahaha same, i could easily do 2 or 3 a day
is there a way to search for albums on the list, wanna check if something is there

We will finish this in years lmao
Maybe on some point we can do 2 or 3 albums idk

i'm not even worried about being completionist abt this lets just enjoy the ride
I imagine multiple a day would probably start to feel like a lot
more than 1 a day will get too much at times

i have exams in a few days too
good luck!

Fav Song: My Baby
Thoughts: Kinda mixed on this one, was not really vibing with the start of the album, felt pretty overwhelming but slowed down enough as it approached the midway point which really allowed me to appreciate the great piano and guitar instrumentals without being too distracted by the really scratchy vocals. The instrumentals are absolutely groovy as heck but I don't think i'll be returning to this album cause I'm just not a big fan of her voice.||
thank you!!
there's up to 2018 as i saw
at least 2015 for sure bc there was TPAB and MBDTF in the list

the original book came out in 2005 so if its drawing from that its 2005
but the book has been updated over the years
still if we get to albums we already know in and out like kendricks its gonna be funny
someone found the guy who developed the website on reddit i think and it said its up to 2018
we are cooking
i checked the list and theres an album on there that i think many of you may not have heard but i grew up with
so thats exciting
ooo 2 actually
PEARL - JANIS JOPLIN
Comments: ||Yeah there's simply no way a song with Janis' voice in it can go poor like, at all. I found this album surprisingly consistent from front to back, and in my humble opinion also found no song lacking or filling, or just 1 at very most by the end of it, but the fact that she swings between Rock, Folk, Punk and Blues on a same album and manages to nail every one, and with her voice only, what a legend. I can definitely see why this is included in the list, but at the same time is not something I would go back to every single day, and that's my thing with it I think, a weird paradox between being an album good enough to be included in a list like this, but not a one with a solid enough replay value.||

it's very rare but i can see why people wouldn't like Janis voice but honestly for me her voice is just so iconic

AC/DC - Back In Black
Score: ||7.1||
Favorite Songs: ||Shoot to Thrill, Back In Black, You Shook Me All Night Long, Shake a Leg||
Comments: ||A classic and beloved rock album. The tracklist is littered with catchy guitar licks and solid hooks. Sometimes the repetitive guitar riffs aren't interesting enough to carry an entire 3 1/2+ min song. Sometimes the low end mix gets overpowered by the mid/high end and we only get bits and pieces of the bass line. However, when the quality in instrumentation is there and the mix is balanced, you get a fantastic song, like Back In Black and Shake a Leg. Brian Johnson's vocals don't have much versatility but his shouty, raspy voice works well with what the album is going for sonically. Lyrically, the album has aged poorly and the unimaginative sexual imagery gets very stale very quickly, but that is typical of the time period and style of music. Overall, a fun listen if you want a classic rock album with earwormy melodies.||
Janis Joplin - Pearl
Score: ||8.9||
Favorite Songs: ||Move Over, Cry Baby, Buried Alive In the Blues, Me and Bobby McGee, Get It While You Can||
Comments: ||This album rules. A fantastic fusion of blues, funk, soul and gospel which explodes with so much color and energy that it held my imagination from beginning to end. Janis Joplin's raspy voice is not just there for its unique tone; she flexes her vocal prowess all over the album from the raw, emotional power of Cry Baby to the soulful, funky energy of Half Moon. The mix was carefully gone over with a fine toothed comb with every instrumental layer sounding as crystal clear as the one before it. Really enjoyed this album a ton!||

ENDTRODUCING….. - DJ Shadow
Comments: ||Dude... how do I even start with this review lol like, every hip hop head knows or should know how absolutely fundamental, trendsetting and visionary this album has been for the years to come, like we are in front of the album that literally birthed sampling hip-hop to and also took it to a whole next level by creating an instrumental album with 90% all samples mixed together (!!!!) AS A DEBUT ALBUM, ON 1996, LITERALLY 27 YRS AGO, and for it to still sound contemporary nowadays, goddamn bro... The focus he gave to every part and the detail in every mixing is just fucking exquisite, shit iirc one of the songs even have like 17 (!!) samples mixed together in it, and he manages to make every track smooth as hell, induces you into a whole mood into each and every one of them, and all the facts that surround the album making like being built just by records bought by Shadow every time he pulled up to the record store for a solid 2 years, producing it ONLY in a small MPC 60, being the album that encouraged more DJ and producers to release instrumental hip- hop... like fr, YOUR favorite producer loves this with their life and that's a fact. The only reason I'm not giving this a solid 10 is because even if this is a masterpiece in the art of instrumentals, sampling and modern hip-hop is that the genre itself need 2 things to coexist, which is the beat AND the voice, and even if this manages to be this good without a single rhyme in it, It just leaves me wondering every time I hear it what if one of the best MCs rapped over this... crazy, imagine that power.||

||Rating: 8/10
Fav Song: Stem / Long Stem - Medley
Love the combination of the drums and beats, a lot of repetition but just when you think it's about to get boring, they spice it up with other instruments or beat changes, only downside is it's just instrumentals so the replay value is slightly hindered by that fact.||
damn my boy wrote an essay
shoulda let me post mine first 😭
my headphones are here
i can finally listen
oh my god this noise cancellation is something else
Sony WH1000XM4

If you liked Endtroducing, i recommend UNKLE's Psyence Fiction, which is another project from DJ Shadow, more song focused stuff with some stellar feats like Thom Yorke, Mike D from Bestie Boys and Richard Ashcroft from the Verve

||Fav Song: Changeling||
||Don't even know how to put this on a scale. I would love to throw this on in the background while working because instrumental hip hop is great for that purpose.||
and I'll go back and do the others
awesome i'll make your columns
will add everyones reviews for this in once im done
if anyone would like to help me out with the spreadsheet as we're getting a lot busier now pls let me know

Fav song: ||Stem / Long Stem - Medley||
||This is a difficult one for me to try and talk about, I was a little impatient during my listen with how long many of the tracks are. I respect the quality of the production and the genius of the sampling but this definitely feels like something I would best enjoy in the background while I do something else rather than just sit down, turn it on and let it sink in. I can definitely hear how this inspired the future of hip hop and led to trip hop though which is very cool. Some great moody tracks and stuff that sounds like soundtracks to films in here||
check out delilah (pull me out of this) if you like marea
such a special track
i wish fred again was on the list
Yeah try rebooting your last fm scrobblers in settings

problem is that there is a ton of edm songs that I used to like but I can't remember them when I think about what songs to add on a playlist

AC/DC - Back in Black
||Rating: 5.6/10||
||Fav Song: Back in Black||
||There are classics here that have made their way into everyone's collective knowledge (and tbh I've heard them enough for a lifetime). The songs that stick to the formula are pretty easy to listen to. The songs that stray from it are reflected in the streams and didn't connect with me either.||
Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
||Rating: 4/10||
||Fav Song: This Is the House||
||Some great synths and powerful vocals sometimes feel buried in the mix and less impactful than they could be. The high energy tracks are where it's at.||

Rating: ||9.6||
Favorite Songs: ||Building Steam with a Grain of Salt, The Number Song, Changeling, Transmission 2, Midnight in a Perfect World, What Does Your Soul Look Like, Pt. 1 (Blue Sky Revisit)||
Comments: ||The album that paved the way for sample-based music and instrumental hip-hop. Not only does DJ Shadow create one of the landmarks of the genre, but he goes above and beyond; he's not just making intense breakbeats and funky grooves from his sampling, he's building a world. Throughout the album, he weaves a strong narrative thread that links all the songs together and makes everything flow seamlessly. It's eerie and unsettling. It's atmospheric and dramatic. A true classic.||

recommend me an album

damn
that is pink
LMAO
i listened to sigur ros just now and man its such a trip
id say its an acquired taste in a sense
if u like ambient music
u wld like them
or instrumental stuff
i like yu peng chen
yup, not all songs have that post rock, but it is ingrained here and there
i listened to this one
had a very ethereal and dreamy tone
genshin?

ahhh
hmm i see
then it might be a bit hard for me to get into them
will give it a shot nontheless
noise, drone, experimental, acid stuff all require a certain mood for me to fully enjoy and appreciate
like i tried some of King Gizzard & the Lizzard Wizard stuff
was hard to get in the right mood for
ig for me its not really whether im used to it or not? its more like i can get used to it only if im feeling a certain mood
yee which is kinda rare, that mood
sometimes i listen to an album of those genres, and then i dont touch it for weeks
i rmbr the first time i listened to 1000gecs
and i was so mindfucked i didnt listen to any music the next day

granted i did enjoy the fk out of that album
yea i getcha, they a wild bunch
I like sigur ros
which album of theirs do u like the best mirage? i'll give it a shot
mirage listens to everything

this album they have is long

i can always count on mirage to gimme the good recs

wadafak
but why 😭
Coming for the kessoku band crown
naskldgjbaslkjhdba
it takes me awhile to rack up plays since i dont put it on loop T_T so u will probably get the kessoku band crown in no time if u loop

nicki fake fan
only reason why i have so much plays on yorushika is because they have 4 albums i can play so i dont get tired of it
I don't loop stuff too much either
and even then it took me a year to get 4K plays since i naturally let them get on
most the time my plays are pretty srpead out
I've been listening to a lot of shoegaze/dream pop kind of stuff lately
those loopers
fm np
japanese harder to loop for me than korean
I know them, but thanks
Magic of Life
Not really
any amalgamation of stuff would do tbh im interested to see what ur listening to and get to know more stuff
yeah, ig cuz jp stuff can get fatiguing
a lot of their pop/rock stuff can get pretty technical
Yeah reason why i dont listen to my japanese playlist anymore, only listen to really new japanese songs that came out recently
damn
https://open.spotify.com/track/2HlHbSkHLLuGMUkRDNRZZq?si=4682335928bd4660 this was from an album I really liked this year, they did collab stuff with parannoul before too
i only have 1.5K artists aha
but do u hv anywhere where i cld see what u listen to tho?
im gonna probably start a personal vault of album reviews and shit soon so that ik what i think of each song in the album cuz its getting hard for me to remember
mmm I don't really keep track of anything too much like that? Other than like what's on my last fm...I would share if I had something to
gotcha, no biggie then~
hmm ig u could try starting with how it makes u feel?
like since im not really big into music theory, production, history, and stuff like that, i dont usually write about them when i review albums

its time to get in touch with ur feelings

you can see I was listening to a certain type the other week
tricot is probably my favorite jp band

i even named my JP rock playlist after the show
that's a good one too, I like the bass in it

chinoo and I will just fill it in as it comes
It was 86 last year. It's mostly albums through the years I need to do deep dives on.
i see i seeeee
16 are 80s/90s Japanese Rap/Punk, around 24 are Spanish, and the rest are mixed.
Been trying to appreciate reggae more and some other genres like it. At least learn more about it.
Probably gonna add albums mentioned in this video too https://youtu.be/jzPQ7f0cbHs
Just as rock and roll fever was sweeping the English-speaking world, a totally unique and fascinating genre of trippy, fuzzy dance music was emerging from Peru. This unlikely blend of tropical, indigenous and psychedelic rock music is a must-listen for rock fans.
