stiff slate
#

so exhaust matters?

#

in terms of performance

gleaming meteor
#

it does

#

a better way to get the fumes out allows the engine to get more clean air

brave rampart
#

In the most basic sense yes it does. Although realistically and on a greater scale in production cars it only really accounts for a little over 1% of the overall power reduction

#

and that only matters when you're holding down the pedal and really getting past standard operating temps

#

for daily drivers, that's not worth the 2-3x more emissions from sitting at an intersection or only going 0-100kmh once in a while

exotic cargo
#

i get the concept behind why boosted cars benefit more from an aftermarket exhaust compared to a naturally aspirated car i can't really string the right words together lol

#

to my understanding, it's all about the flow of air regardless if the car is na or boosted

#

here's a video that explains how a turbocharger works if you don't know how they work

brave rampart
#

saves wastegate and blowoff from extra shit leaving the exhaust side of the head(s)

#

if a wastegate spring locks open or shut it will under or overboost/boost creep which can just cause a blown bearing

exotic cargo
#

got itttt

brave rampart
#

The thing is mоdding something like that requires a lot more complexity since the factory turbos are actually an eco alternative application for normal cars

#

It's not like the turbo in a F40 or 288 GTO Ferrari. They are in to make power. In the Supra, RX7 FD, and GT-R R34 they were sequential (they work binary) which is why people swap the turbos out for one. They only make 0.90bar or 13psi which is lower than a Turbo Civic Sport nowadays (14.1psi or ~1.0bar)

#

Sorry for the big paragraphs but it's a cheap job without the building for prevention part.

exotic cargo
#

that's actually really interesting

#

i never fail to learn something new from you haha

gleaming meteor
#

2.2 litre engine

#

apparently 22B is a hexadecimal for 555 which was their sponsor at that time

silk coyote
#

Ahhh okay

brave rampart
#

hawk eye was 3rd iirc

#

2008-2014 or something

silk coyote
#

Oh okay

#

I like the bugeye

brave rampart
#

2nd gen nice

#

I've worked on a fair amount

silk coyote
#

Oh, no, they say he's got to go
Go, go, Godzilla (yeah)
Oh, no, there goes Tokyo
Go, go, Godzilla (yeah)

#

Spotted Godzilla in the wild.

brave rampart
#

blue oyster cult nice

#

Japanese market version is good

#

They made a ton of them which I think is crazy

#

they made over 43 thousand units of R32 GT-R which is so nice

brave rampart
brave rampart
#

thankfully

#

you actually sent the most obvious part

#

the tail lights. The Aus. market GT-R had amber outer rear tails

#

other than that, reflectors on the sides

#

they had no region specific trims there

silk coyote
#

Oh I c

#

So the AUS trim is the true Godzilla form?

brave rampart
#

yes

silk coyote
#

Also never noticed front bumper differences

brave rampart
#

that's on all of them

#

they were optional on any after 1990

#

They're called "N1 vent bumper"

silk coyote
brave rampart
#

Intercooler yes

silk coyote
#

Ahhh okay

#

Honestly never noticed those vents until recently tbh

brave rampart
#

in N1 they had to basically make production versions of any parts they used in their cars they raced

silk coyote
#

It looks weird for my taste

brave rampart
#

and the N1 cars had extra vents for more intercooler surface area contact without changing the drag significantly

#

I could maybe scrape up photos of original filings to the Japanese touring car governing body but it's a bit out of my way rn

silk coyote
#

All good

#

Was there also a AUS trim of the r34 as well?

brave rampart
#

don't think so no

silk coyote
#

Do you consider the other generations a Godzilla? Or just the r32?

brave rampart
#

the R32 was the only R chassis car they sold outside of domestic market

brave rampart
silk coyote
#

The AUS trim has the Nissan badge?

#

Not the S shape badge

#

Right?

brave rampart
#

Good spot

#

any other questions?

silk coyote
#

Found this Gtr for sale in AUS,but just wanted to double check if that’s what you’re referring too

brave rampart
#

it's this

#

on this red car it's hard to see

#

the left one though has the outer ring lighter than the inner circle of the tail lamp

brave rampart
silk coyote
#

Ahh okay, that’s what inspired the tail lights for the r34 right?

brave rampart
#

Not entirely sure on that

#

but I could see that being the case

silk coyote
#

The scheme reminds of it that’s why,but it could just be pure coincidence

brave rampart
#

I think it's more of an analytic decision by Nissan. It was proven late that having amber sections on the tails reduces the amount of rear-end collisions in most night time and faulty bulb instances

#

because it's specific to a signal rather than a quick tap of the brakes

#

America needs that logic

silk coyote
#

Interesting 🤔

brave rampart
# silk coyote

this one has Japan market reverse lights and tail lamps.

#

the reverse lights on the AUS GT-R were in between the pairs. The Japan ones had them on the lower section of the reg plate

#

the 34 had the single reverse lamp next to the plate. The R33 had it below the passenger rear.

My other plan is getting the 190e-2.6 but keeping at as stock as possible

#

So this one wouldn’t really “hurt” me

brave rampart

Get yourself some tools

#

in total the cost of them should be ~1200USD

silk coyote

$1200 doesn’t seem bad

it isn't, it's a paycheck for most young people if I am not mistaken

silk coyote

But then again, everyone has different financial situations

that would be some $16,50/hr paycheck on a 40hr clock

understandable though

Must-Have Tools for general automotive maintenance:

Tool Bag/Box
Anything works as long as it's comfortable. Something in polyester, nylon, cotton/canvas if lucky

Torque Wrench in 3/8"
(Anything pre-calibrated)
This will do most things with the wheels and brakes along with the breaker

Breaker Bar in 3/8"
(16inch length or more)
Non-ratcheting for any purpose, so you don't strip studs or lugnut threads with a impact gun.

3/8" Socket Wrench + Socket Set
(mm for any non-Western vehicle + some SAE for imperial hardware)
Anything with a good ratcheting mechanism in a chrome finish + good handle (rubber/poly) will do any job on the body panels and some parts of the engine bay

12-18v Cordless Impact Wrench in 3/8"
(Milwaukee brand if possible)
Just to break any stiff things loose such as suspension, bushing, brake, panel bolts

NOTE:
This is not a precision device.

Small Items
• 1/4" to 3/8" Socket Adapter
(Small to bigger)
• 1/4" Torque Wrench
(Also pre-calibrated)

Optional:
1/2" Torque Wrench
This is for torquing down axle nuts and bigger components (I recommend renting or just borrowing these if needed)

1/2" Socket(s)
For axle nuts (usually anything 32mm and above)

3/8" Impact Sockets
In 15 and 17mm (old JDM cars usually have this size)

NOTE:
Search up the general size for the brake, suspension, and etc hardware bolts that get torqued down. (You can just break them loose without a breaker bar this way)

#

@hazy gull can I have the message above pinned?

quartz glen
#

Hey uh

#

What about this?

brave rampart
#

Good one

#

Low profile jack is a must for low cars

#

but that goes without being said like an oil catch and funnel

quartz glen
#

Oh dude

brave rampart
#

hmm?

quartz glen
#

an SAE guide would be nice if you have one

brave rampart
#

I have one in my head for measurements

quartz glen
#

how many ccs you have and what SAE you should use

brave rampart
#

For milimetres is simple. I go by the fact that 1/2" is 12.71mm and 5/8" is ~15mm

#

there's a small infographic

brave rampart
quartz glen
#

....ain't that both the same?

brave rampart
#

yes technically

quartz glen
#

1500cc is ...1.5L

brave rampart
#

just about that yes

quartz glen
#

Cause sometimes you need different SAE oil for different engine capacity

brave rampart
#

I'd just search those up or read the owner manual if available

#

I'm sure most four-stroke engines above 1.0L will use an oil rating measurement that can be recommended by any autos shop.

silk coyote
#

Good shit as always God,thank you 🙏

@split ravine the version in these videos of the S13 generation spanned from '89-*94 in the united states, southern canada, and mexico only

brave rampart

#

I only mention it because vw does diesel engines better than their petrol haha

turbid cedar
#

oh really

brave rampart
#

Yeah, as far as the small engines go

#

they're more efficient than their petrol engines.

in power and fuel usage

ok that one just looks like a toy

brave rampart

#

hahahaha

brave rampart
#

The best I can do is recommend a Honda Civic from 2008 or VW Golf from 2006 and before for 5k in euros

#

They will go anywhere as long as roads are paved, they fit 4 people decently. Safety varies (Civic gets the edge) and they are very common. So it's not expensive to repair.

exotic cargo
#

the 8th gen civic si platform (06-11) is great if you plan to modify your car too

brave rampart
#

trying to not get too technical but yes that generation of Civics is what I mean. They are very good cars for any lad

exotic cargo
#

i can vouch i’ve driven my cousin’s 8th gen si a few times, it’s a fun car for sure

#

the gear pop out issue is common on 8th gens though just throwing it out there, but if manual isn’t really your thing then you can go with the base model and not worry about that

turbid cedar
#

idek how automatic works i've never driven one

exotic cargo
#

honestly me neither but i've heard there's a torque converter

@brave rampart can explain hyunface

brave rampart
turbid cedar
#

point is manual is not a problem

brave rampart
#

ohhh

#

even better

turbid cedar
#

because that's all i know

brave rampart
#

Automatic is just a very simple experience. It's just one foot driving. Throttle when you want it to move. Brake when you don't want it to

brave rampart
#

it's called "balking" the amount of American drivers that experience it is actually at a higher rate than other countries

#

just a fun fact

turbid cedar
brave rampart
#

Ahh no issue. The brakes are more sensitive in an automatic too

#

Just so you know.

turbid cedar
#

but maybe it would be less stressful

brave rampart
#

clutching stressful for you?

turbid cedar
#

driving in general

brave rampart
#

ahhh shit

#

sometimes you just have to wait for the right time to build comfortable experiences

You rarely drive though so maybe you should just push yourself to do it weekly with a practise vehicle

Roadsters and Tourers are the same thing right except one has more hp?

brave rampart
#

A tourer can be a roadster, but that doesn't mean a roofless car can be a GT

#

A tourer is just a burly 2-door (or four) usually with vestigial rear seats, a mid-large displacement of 3.0 and above and more than 5 cyl. They are usually front-engined & RWD configuration.

#

Technically muscle sports cars are American takes on the gran tourer like Corvettes, Vipers, and Camaros

I guess it's harder if you're an American to understand tourers, they are a Euro-centric thing.

Rigid is good too. As for batteries though you have to get a good 12-16v battery. Anything less will not give enough breakaway tq output to break something loose

Gotcha

Wait,so impact wrench or gun won’t make a difference right?

Ahh

brave rampart

it's easy, doesn't take up as much space as good bars are long, and can be used for anything in tighter to reach places

like under the wheel wells/arches

Also, some good cordless impact wrenches have speed settings. If it has an auto detect kind of setting? Leave it on there

or else you can strip shit and skip threads like no one's business. Lugs get hot as coals when tq is applied
