I really wanted to take my time to respond because unfortunately politics is a sensitive topic and I don’t want to come off a certain way especially after saying I’m conservative leaning.

So in general what both American and Canadian political talking points believe are that left tends to be pro criminal justice control or that the justice system are too harsh, pro gun control, pro lgbtq, are environmental or environmentally conscious, are skeptical of the oil industry, and see taxes and regulations as not an issue at all and believe it’s the most useful power of government. While the right are m believe in “western values” aka more Christian, are very anti tax and regulation, are pro ok the oil industry, skeptical on climate change, supports gun ownership, supports a stronger justice system, and more defensive in history or in this case Canadian history. Now ofc not all leftists and conservatives believe in all these things, my beliefs are quite different from the conservative examples and in fact I agree with a lot more with the leftist beliefs. But these are general talking points of either left or right are stereotypical known for.

I guess where my conservative beliefs would be that I believe in small government, believe in the police, believe in a stricter immigration policy, believe in cultural assimilation, now although I am not in support of cutting taxes I do think that cutting SOME of it would help out a lot of Canadians, and lastly I am Christian but this is more of personal belief and some of my opinions are dictated towards that. For example I wouldn’t want an abortion and I think it is a sin, but I believe that that is a decision on the individual and the government shouldn’t be able to dictate on what to do with their bodies. I guess my politics are what people say classic liberalism, so individual freedom as the highest social good and good a bit of ol’ free market capitalism. I think this is what Canadian conservatives tend to be, or at least what the party believes in. You might disagree with this take here but I think Canadian conservatism tends to be the more rational party, this has been the motto conservatives have always used but I do think at least historically this to be true. The interesting thing about Canada is that it’s never actually made any new political philosophy, it’s always taken it from either Europe or the US. For example if any conservative ever talks about getting rid of free healthcare its always going to be a losing talking point, also the Conservative Party believes in abortion as a right, which is something very different down south. The conservatives always have to take a rational approach when it comes to their rhetoric simply because Canada doesn’t have a conservative south to rely on, and so they never go out of their way to suggest anything ridiculously “right wing”. Instead what I think the conservatives simply try to conserve or protect this classical liberal value. The issue with the Conservative Party is that they vacuum up anyone that’s conservative, so they can have someone moderately conservative which where I think I stand, and then someone who is a MAGA Trump supporter in one party. Unlike in the left where they have the moderate leftist are in the Liberal Party, the ones that are further left that are the NDP, and if they’re extreme they have the Green Party. That’s the issue with the Conservative imo is that everything conservative is in one party, and the crazy ones are louder than the ones that make senses

I said I’m pro assimilation but not to a point where someone has to get rid of their culture. I’m so fortunate that I still speak my mother tongue, and can communicate with my community well enough for me to be considered “one of us” type of thing. Filipinos tend to be very fast when it comes to assimilating where we tend to lose a lot of our culture. But I think the reason why that is, is because Filipino culture is very much tied to the homeland. Just something that can’t be exported outside of the Philippines, simply because of religious or spiritual reasons.
