I like seeing legal action but it should be against the people who are providing the tool shouldn't it?
or is that guy the one who created it?
Ahh okay that's good to know
my bad im half asleep and skimmed messages, answer is here
all cringe
Yep, it is not exactly the most stupid idea to invade Greenland, it is more a combination of outlandish and just horrible
Trump wants to be the Fallout president i guess
it is rather stupid considering it's under nato protection
and there's a US base already there
And, again, Dk and Greenland are not even against the US expanding that
Yet anyway
Yeah feel like if it was just about bases they'd let the US
It seems more about annexation
I mean for their position, for a global order not wanting to commit itself to armageddon, it is stupid
But if you are an order that wants to commit itself to the world's end, blatant annexation is more a reasonable decision
Kinda reminds me of Mormons and their "end times"
Especially with the ruby franke case, the parents almost were moving to Arizona to final step, kill their children for "their salvation" (the children are rescued, thankfully, no one is dead)
But it does remind me of a similar self-destruction
I've been watching a lot of "analysis" about the greenland nonsense both from the danish side and the american side
and it seems to be more focused about the maritime boundaries that "owning" greenland grants Denmark currently.
America wants that.
The land's resources are also a factor but secondary to the maritime borders.
Also letting people expand bases on your land doesn't seem like the best idea with the way US has been behaving
All the european nations currently allowing that probably will want to reconsider that if the US continues on this trajectory.
Look at how granting Russia a base in Crimea turned out for Ukraine.
holy shit I was talking to someone about how these yeji resale tickets at LG were like 800k according to these chinese fans i was talking to. I'm thinking like "damn $680 that's crazy"
sike
won is in the fucking toilet right now my god
US expands their expansionism -> russia objects because muh spheres of influence -> russia uses this to justify their expansion
small note: all US bases overseas are owned by the host nation and are still their property. so if they wanted, a nation can kick us out. one of the main reasons why most nations (usually) don't mind us expanding is the jobs it brings to the surrounding areas.
been wondering if we start getting kicked out, which would be big news especially out of the bigger bases the US have been stationed for a long time
Is this the sign for me to start planning my next band trip?
go get them albums
I don't have a point of reference
What's 1000KRW in a 7E can get you?
Can it get me 3 onigiris?
yep do it
dang
See, the issue there is, the album price is and has never been the issue, the shipping and customs is and it will not really get cheaper due to this
I meant as him getting his band there on a trip so he can get the albums personally. I know shipping+customs cost an arm and a leg.
Americans I wanna know how your health care really is. Like in your entire life how has the way healthcare is paid for affect you?
Idk if i bought into some propaganda or what cause I've always only heard bad things about it.
Someone told me healthcare is actually free for ppl who make less that 150,000 a year. They just need to get their bill and get it paid for by medicare. This is from someone whose father is a recent immigrant and had a 3 month stay at a hospital. He said it was all covered after applying.
The way it sounds doesn't seem so bad. The only real problem seems to be corruption from insurance companies maybe not always covering things. But my question is if a recent elderly immigrant is covered so fully, what does it take to be denied.
It's just an anecdote and I haven't done a lot of research but I wonder if I fell for some anti American propaganda ages ago or is it reality
well I have healthcare through my work but I can tell you I probably wouldn't go to a hospital unless my limbs are falling off
Why is that? What's are your concerns?
or is it like a i just don't want to go
and without employer insurance what happens?
I've always heard about medical debt being a huge issue
You go into deep, deep debt. Copay is a bitch from what I've read. The system is from my understanding "You always pay X amount and the insurance only covers anything going past that amount" (and only really when they feel like it, Americans cheered the insurance CEO shooter on for a reason)
yeah even with insurance you can never really rest assured that the specific type of care you need will be completely or partially covered
if I had like some specific issue maybe I'd be more familiar with what my insurance will cover but it's far easier for me to just not deal with it since I am in good health
Yea see ive heard all that and I've had the same ideas. But this person really made it seem like free healthcare with an extra step
any for my job I need to stay in good health so I can't just go to the hospital and not explain why to my employer
It's... not. Especially not with the GOP back in charge who want to get rid of any medicare to begin with
Medicare cutoffs should be fairly easy to look up
First major point being that medicare is for seniors
Like retirement age seniors

Okay see that's a great point, that's on me for not doing the research. I'm like fresh off a discussion from this person
Was that person an American btw
Also the person i was talking to wasn't a bad faith person so I didn't really believe they'd lie. I do think they get news from a completely different source than I do
They are Canadian but their family is entirely in America
they immigrated later than him and they're mostly living well. He's living even better but he has serious gripes with some of Canadas social programs cause he believes they are taxing the middle class too much
Cause I've ofen had the experience that talking about the BIG TOPICS like health care and gun laws can be very much enfuriating cause MURRICA can do no wrong
Extrapolating one persons experience to the entire healthcare system just isnt gonna work no matter the experience
Yea that's true I just had a moment where I really wondered if everything I knew about the topic was misguided
Like theres also medicaid for non seniors with low income but then some states passed an extension as part of the aca (aka based blue states) which expanded it to more people but others (red states) never did cause obamacare is evil
Then you have the whole thing where you lose healthcare coverage when you lose your job so you become much more reliant on your employer
Just a lot of different aspects
he lwk thinks Trump is actually making good moves for USs economy and it was slightly convincing

lol let me try to type out his argument
I was debating him for a while but he works in an executive position so he has a perspective that values corporate interests a lot more
nothing says good moves like crashing the economy
Every country should be an autarky
Like according to him he believes the Tarrifs by Trump on Canada are actually retaliatory because of stuff like Carbon Tax and higher electricity costs that manufacturers have to pay in Canada. And that the Trump admin would rather have American businesses leave Canada and return to US if the costs aren't as profitable as before.
Shouldnt he love those taxes because it would push american manufacturing out of canada and back into the us?
Instead of helping the Canadian economy cause so much of our economy is dependent on manufacturing at a lower cost and selling at a higher price to america. Tarrifs supposedly make the costs closer to each other and incentize Businesses to keep their manufacturing in the US. Similarly he is doing it to other key countries where they outsource a lot.
Like if you have a plant in canada obviously youre gonna have to adhere to the rules there, if those rules make the country unattractive for businesses then that seems like thats that country's problem
Exactly that's his argument. It's kinda ignoring the historic partnership but if you only care about America it almost sounds reasonable. Except for the increased cost to consumers
Theres some merits to using tariffs to keep production of some specific good in the country so you arent overly reliant on other countries (thats basically what the whole point of the Chips act was, get semiconductor manufacturing into the us because you cant keep relying on Taiwan)
The obvious problem here is that trump a) fundamentally still does not understand how a tariff works b) is applying tariffs on all goods instead of specific ones and c) constantly flip flops on his tariff positions so economic long term planning for companies becomes impossible
Also still ignores the fact that doing this will inevitavly drive prices up in the us
also the justification for it was predicated on canada letting in fent and the trade "deficit"
which basically wasnt true at all lol
He brought up the fent thing, that was the part I really facepalmed
Like the "yes i will pay 100% extra for american goods" pivot from the crazy maga crowd is already in progress but thats also already 5 steps removed from his campaign promise of lowering prices
great point
He's also just openly saying he doesn't give a fuck if prices in the US go up
The us can become an autarky if it really wants but then you also get all the shit jobs back that you outsourced to other countries
Or to use his actual quote, he "couldn't care less"
The better solution is getting people impacted by outsourcing into other (probably better paying) jobs instead of chasing the dream of american manufacturing revival for another 30 years
Those are mostly evil radical socialist jobs though
Theres a reason the gdp per capita in the us is so high and it isnt the coal mining and manufacturing jobs
better work in a tesla factory or on a field
Idk this person doesn't really seem to have the same priorities as an average person.
Like he really wants to vote Conservative in Canada cause he likes PPs idea of fracking our oil reserves and selling to US opposed to the Liberals idea of building a pipeline.
He is aware of the environmental risks but doesn't seem to care
Have you considered that theyve simply drank the kool aid
A little bit yea
Seems like standard conservative media diet stuff
And ive yet to discover how to get somebody out of that without an insane time investment and mental energy
Keeping up with all the bullshit is exhausting lol
they do see themselves as a more fiscal conservative type. They don't say it but the economy and their wallet is their biggest concern
Facts
Yet to see a non cringe fiscal conservative
Tbh i slightly respect this person for their talents in other things so I almost started getting convinced on some points.
Just look at germanys conervative party
I'd rather not, thank you
Regardless i don't think any of our current options for election are great so there's really no middle ground between us
That clip of Merz at McDonalds haunts me
we did just agree that both kinda suck despite both of leaning the opposite sucky candidate
Carney is obviously more competent but also seems like another round of the "liberal guy cant fix everything immediately so everybody gets more xenophobic" cycle of elections
exactly
it's a mess
But hey we seem to have discovered how to reset that cycle at least a little
I just don't trust ppl like PP especially with Trump
at this point you're probably more at the whim of how much trump pisses off the average canadian
One western country just has to elect the fascist and it shocks every other country back into reality for a bit
Like in the UK, where they had 2 decades of Tory rule running into the ground but Labour couldn't just magically make everything go away so if there were an election now it'd just be Tories again
haha that is actually something that ended up being bittersweet.
it varies so much by your state, income, employer. regardless the insurance is gonna deny stuff and give you so many barriers to justify why you need care
I knew pp was a dumbfuck when he talked about the fucking gold standard on that Podcast with jordan peterson, the lobster overlord
man its crazy cause I'm kinda experiencing a watered down version of when ppl started realizing some of their family and friends are MAGA
Cant believe we went through the biggest supply shock inflation in decades with covid and you still have people doing gold standard memes
My brother always been kinda dumb and he's completely into all the conservative and right wing content. But now he voices it more cause he feels informed
Yea its
My dads long long long time friend completely fell for all the bullshit here and i can tell it strains their relationship
Watching joe Rogan podcasts isn't beimngh informed, you should tell him that
like his argument against Carney was just when he talks he sounds like he doesn't know anything
And i occasionally have to ward off some dumb shit hes been sent
Oh so Carney is currently the guy but they called for an election?
They had to this year, ye
And rn with the Canadians being super mad was kinda a good moment
Dude ran the bank of canada for a bit so kinda ideal for a trade war lol
Oh I've been there. I'm really at a point where I can only accept ppl are always gonna be more inclined towards some philosophy. I think honestly at the core it's ppl with more limited empathy vs ppl with more overreaching empathy.
Only thing is our economy hasn't been great so ppl use that against him
Well this might be shocking news but no countries economy has been great
wrong, many are saying trump has the greatest economy, maybe ever
All these wars and pandemics and corresponding energy and oil/gas crises kinda make good economy impossible
I think its mainly populism winning cause it really is impossible to stay informed on the current topic
Even if your media diet isnt mega poisoned by being on any social media platform, researching this shit takes time
Like i looked into how useful nuclear energy will really be in future energy grids and that shit is just infinitely complex. Theres a reason people go to unis for these things
while some ppl are good with accepting/parroting whatever they hear
But then you expect people with no prior knowledge to have an opinion on that and base their vote on it
My brother watches asmongold all day these days
epic
Ok well asmongold really is a case of zero empathy
does he also have gum/teeth bleeding and wipe it on his wall
idek i just kinda dissociate
It sorta gets worse because the legacy media™️ largely belongs to the people who sell you the conservative diet now, so even the "real media" is just head empty nonsense
like he used to be a rogan viewer too
but tbh sometimes there are some topics that feel overblown by even left biased sources
Eh, i think german public broadcast stations are relatively good about thid
Dont get me wrong, seeing another markus lanz talk show will make me rip out my eye balls but the news at least are decent
asmon is... yeah. Like, bro actually has some decent insights into certain things, but completely lacks empathy and anything remotely political he does (including all the DEI/gender wars bs) is just
Thats why things like ground news which supposedly give you a "balanced media diet" are just as bad
The solution isnt reading more bullshit from every side, the solution is engaging your brain wrinkles and thinking about what youre reading
yea i was gonna say I'm really struggling sometimes wondering what's actually a priority to be concerned about cause when you touch grass so much seems needlessly talked about
Well, for now anyway. Anything belonging to Axel Springer though...
Die Welt pretending they're a real newspaper is always fun
I lowkey had a bit of hope for asmon when he got banned for the gaza comments and he himself said he kinda hated the person he was
But i guess it wasnt a core enough insight to change
was kinda funny seeing him defend playing AC shadows while his chat was egging him on to trash it
sponsor money hit i guess
no ubi would never sponsor him
but does he even need money
I think some part of himself knows his audience is terrible and also having a terrible influence on him
But he cant get himself out
feels like he does it for the love of the game
Not really
And yes, Asmon's audience is actually far worse than he is
Never look at comments in his chat or on his yt vids
😮💨
🤦♂️
Yeah, France ain't happy
That's not the only France win though
She is effective from now on barred from being elected for any political position
And while BBC says "could", it's really more of a "will" miss the 2027 election cause that ban will remain in effect even if she appeals

The thing there is also Trump could send one message to the El Salvador administration building that prison for him and they would in fact send that guy back to america

Everybody really be out in the world talking shit about America like we really can’t do whatever we want. Macron wants the statue of liberty back but the US+UK should just invade Congo , Haiti and the DRC and throw them and China out , switch the currency to the USD, do big mineral deals there and send US prison labor to update and expand the infrastructure. . . Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us.
︀︀
︀︀So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is.

So what exactly is expected to happen? Every other time ive seen the stock market dip even a little all the financial news ppl raise alarms. Most likely a recession right? And if that is the case at what point do even the oligarchs and corporations start to go against the admins for messing up their money?
Like what is the most generous prediction for this? Is it just going to be reversed in a month or 2?
This is where we find out if the deep state is real
If it is, trump is dead in 2 months. If its not (which seems the more likely outcome), everybody will have to hope that some republican senators and members of the house start doing their job again
If they also dont, inflation spikes very high in america, cost of living goes up, people can afford less and less
And what are the chances that manufacturing does return to US? Isn't that the ultimate goal of these tarrifs?
depends on the type of goods
Honestly hard to tell
Theres a chance businesses just sit this out and wait for the next democrat
Some of it probably will come back but that itself will also cause higher prices
can you imagine american citizens lining up to replace the manufactiring of cheap clothes and shoes?
moving that to the US would cost a lot more than just eating the tarrifs
And some of these jobs are just too shit for anybody to want to do them yea
Nobody goes "man i always wanted to be a coal miner, i love permanently fucking up my lungs"
hell, even the people they are kicking out would not want to do most of that shit
Another thing yea
US is already close to full employment
Where are they getting the people for this
Tldr its a fucking mess and we can really only hope the other countries figure out how to get through it the best way possible
I feel like this could play out very differently to his first term, where the trust will be broken long term with other nations and they start to just look how to carry on without the need for the US
the feeling of the first term was very much "meh 4 years and it'll be over" but now it's back, and idk if the world will want to risk having to do this again in 8 years time
I hope that's the way things start to move anyway, but of course its much more complicated
every day Russia and China are smiling more though
Yea you can see it happening already
China/korea/Japan moving closer, canada and the eu as well
Yea that seems to be where people want things to go
Yea I agree though none of this makes sense
Just to give you a pointer, this whole fiasco is projected to have a roughly 20% impact ob average world trade income. The last time the US did a big tarrif push like this was in 1930, caused the great depression and ultimately heavily contributed to a political climate world wide that lead to WW2 (it's widely considered as one of the main factors behind it)
And that last time only had a 6% impact
Not 20
Oh yea I did hear about that
Not to be a doomer, but you know. Amazing stuff.
every 100 years or so someone who doesn't know history tries it and leads to depression
Really the only thing that makes it makes sense is Russia won the cold war and Trump is trying to lower Americas position
0, there’s no point when it’ll take years for anything to complete and by then a new president will be in
For sure which means the third term stuff is a serious concern

more oce pls @kpopindustry
Luckily the big Kpop companies are working on reducing the Kpop trade deficit by producing in the US now
Just gotta stop with the DEI
If they start printing albums in the US, they cut out the huge chunk of money that big shipping get out of it
But big shipping are mostly US companies
a good amount of US versions are already printed in the US pretty sure
Sounds legit
Literally zero
Manufacturing overseas is way cheaper even with the tariffs
Industry will not return to the U.S.
right so does that mean some companies will keep producing and sell to other countries? Cause if they keep producing and sell to US it would mean their tarrif is working right?
You mean keep producing outside of the us?
Problem there is that trump somehow claims to use tariffs to transform the us into an autarky but also at the same time tariffs will be the new funding source for the federal government
2 goals that work against each other so the tariffs kind of by definition cant work
right makes sense that it doesn't

BREAKING: Republicans are considering creating a new tax bracket for those earnings $1 million or more, with top rate of around 39% to 40%, to offset the costs of their tax bill.
Another option being considered is raising the top tax rate from 37% to 39.6% for incomes greater
I'm okay with the rich paying their fair share. This is still far less than most other countries.
lol... no shot that's gonna happen

didn't know this dude was going on trial here on april 4th. I guess several train stations if not all of them were shut down today because of it
didn't realize he was removed from office and was just afk in jail
or basically equivalent of
How.... you were literally there during the protests that lead to his removal
he wasn't removed when I was here
I don't think he had power stripped from him while I was here idk I could be wrong about that
that being said
worth noting that I didn't know martial law was even going on until people in america were asking me if I was okay
but yeah iirc the protests were advocating for his removal at the time and then he was removed at a later date to which I started seeing those articles about how he was like turtling in his residence with military and lawyers lmao
my question is who has even been running the country since then
because now i'm reading they're going to have a new election

Ive been going through this in real life and it really makes me reconsider being a reasonable person. That only works when people are open to reason. When that's not the case it seems being reasonable is just being more concerned about not poking the bears and appeasing the loudest people it seems.
In a crazy world the sane person is the weirdest one
then again are we really sane or just not willing to do what's necessary
btw this seems impossible by the amount of lobbying corporations can do. And wouldn't it just increase costs making people not want to manufacture in US at all?

i will simply outsource my life decisions to my good friend claude
only if they manage to reproduce enough before demographics collapse
what do you mean
China is only like 10 years behind South Korea when it comes to new offspring being produced
they have a lot of people, but all those people are not producing enough children, and the old people are living on for too long
oh really never considered that since they had to actually reduce birth rates in the past
it's funny isn't it
for half a century in the 20th century people kept going on about overpopulation, and now it's the other way around
only India and parts of Africa and select few smaller countries outside of those areas have replacement level of new children being born
you think they won't try to incentive it when it comes to it?
I think they will start killing off their old people
and severely limiting women's rights
when push comes to shove
and nobody will do anything about it because China
or is it like the other Asian countries where work life balance and rigorous education makes people not want to reproduce?
I am not sure what the factors for China's demographics or economics problems are
that's true, China can do that stuff
ngl that's one thing I've always had internal debates about. Like the stereotype of Asian parents and their children. They are abused but in the process they do achieve a lot. Sounds random but I mean like the Chinese government kinda treats its citizens similarly

japan and korea denied that
I mean a great notable example of such recent cooperation is Whiplash
chinese media was overplaying it
I was unable to find any sources on that matter
i just do not trust posts saying they sourced info from "chinese state media", because you kinda have to specify which source
"chinese state media" is not a huge monolith
reuters post which is the closest site i could find that might have been reliable, says it's source is "social media account affiliated with chinese state media", which is a very broad term
More than likely it is not even chinese media itself overplaying it, but some social media accounts that are clickbaity
also Reuters do not site CCTV as the source, so this article got that wrong
I have checked multiple Reuters articles on the matter, neither cited CCTV as a source
PS: I am deleting my comments, I realized couple stuff I was not initially right about
so the post itself seems to be posted on Weibo, on an account Yuyuan Tantian
which, I guess if it is a post on a government-linked social media account, I would not be surprised at all if there was movement made to overplay the impact

Products that bear the “1989” logo of US pop superstar Taylor Swift’s clothing brand continues to be sold in China despite speculation from Western media that the product line might be banned due to its political undertones.
It had been a debacle that the merch "could" have gotten banned, but there were no such action or influence on Chinese authorities to be found
there seems to have been some censorship involved in several merch-selling sites, and apparently there were some discussions within people associated with her clothing brand, to pull the merchandise off sale, but official announcement of Taylor's side was that they'll be selling 1989 merch everywhere, as it was the year she was born
Chinese authorities or state department either did not respond or refused to respond to the matter
there seemt to be issues arising especially from western outlets, but i could not find any sources in terms of the taylor merch being banned
weibo also had not tagged even the T.S. 1989 tag as sensitive
hell it was Taylor's first fashion line, and it was exclusive to China

we do have a proverb in turkish which basically translates to "it's not shameful to not know, it is shameful to not learn/ask"
basically i think it is more than reasonable to ask
so that people would not be led to think that a China-exclusive sweater/sweatshirt is banned in China
They do that here too but it’s called fluoride
Ain't those in toothpastes?
So you're saying if I ingest Colgate I am gonna be miserable?
Yes
fluoride conspiracies in big 2025
Common misconception but thats handled by the chemtrails
Yes. Fluoride blocks testosterone production and since you’re a liberal you’re probably consuming soy which is pretty much straight estrogen so yeah
that explains the strong urge of getting a strawberry banana smoothie i had today
A very feminine drink I might add
its pink a very womanly color
Yep
wait hold up
I drink those smoothies too
Lol but satire aside, first time I'm hearing about those theories. It's kinda interesting
oddly enough the first study I've seen was based on Chinese farmers
from NYU's statements in 2025, the flouride studies mentioned were based upon 1.5mgs per liter water, which would be more than twice as much of 0.7mg/L standard in the US tap water
"Here in the US, Juneau, Alaska discontinued fluoride in 2007 and research revealed that cavity-related dental procedures subsequently increased by nearly 50 percent in children and adolescents.
In Canada, Calgary removed fluoride in 2011 and researchers subsequently found that children had more tooth decay compared to Edmonton, which maintained fluoridation. Calgary is currently in the process of reintroducing fluoride in its water. In the Canadian city of Windsor, across the river from Detroit, fluoride was removed in 2013 but the city council also voted to reintroduce it in 2018 after seeing increased rates of emergency dental care in children. important for gum/teeth health"
yea the benefits do seem to outweigh the issues at higher dosages
what about the ethical issues about dissolving floridians in a water

Oh wow
Gangs can move to smuggling nintendo switches to avoid the tariffs
I mean it often times had been a political thing, problem is that people for some reason equate political with "forbidden to discuss/taboo"
Even the most seemingly unrelated things like "picture of fat pikachu" is political in a way
Especially now with turkish protests kickstarting giant pikachu in rallies and tv stations for some reason villainifying the pokemon
everything can be political if you want it to be
and 'taking politics out of it' is also stupid when it comes to obviously politically-flavored subject matter
The context here is important. No, Nintendo didn't make it political by reacting to a 46% price hike put on them.
Japanese company whose business is directly impacted by Trump tariffs choosing not to export their new game device into the US is both good business and is also a political statement.
their new game pricing aside, Nintendo at least tries to price their devices at an accessible level, usually anyway.
I think they aren't even choosing not to export it, just delaying while they wait and see if there will be a 180 on the tariffs a few weeks later or not
most of the world is in that mode right now I suspect
but I think they really need to move on without the US now, otherwise this flipflopping mid-administration and at every administration change is going to cause them too much harm in the long run.
If the rich companies behind the republicians don't like it, trump can admit their will some "exemptions" to the tariffs, and it was "never" the plan that they would apply to all products
or say he has signed an incredible deal with countries that consists of nothing all because he threatened to tariff them
I mean...
I think he's just being peak boomer burn it all and take it down as he withers away mode right now
he is a first year boomer after all.
if it works it works, if not, he won't care for much longer.
every single one of us probably knows at least one boomer who is withholding all their wealth from their children, or watching some expensive collection rot away.
this is just on a much grander scale.
Thing is, while he will also ruin the economy elsewhere the ones suffering the most will still be Americans who slowly realize that only a complete imbecile with a single digit IQ can believe a country can be 100% self sufficient in the globalist economy we have today. there's a rush of people purchasing big ticket stuff like cars, appliances, electronics, etc. before tariffs have their full impact
i've seen a couple generated pics of stereotypical maga voters in sweatshops now
it's the only way
They wouldn't even last a week
ironically I think Canada produces more clothes domestically than the US does now
at least scaled to the size of the population/economy
am kinda wondering if corporations will apply blanket price increases worldwide or just on US sales
real
if they do then i might try getting work to get me a laptop sooner rather than later
in fact, what's going to happen is domestic producers will price their stuff JUST A HAIR below the tarrif-impacted imported product of the same type and category
because again, everybody thinks things will go back to normal in half a year or so...
might as well make a profit
I'm gonna try and score a german-made appliance or two before tarrifs hit
my dishwasher's control boards exploded a while back and I've been putting off replacing it for months
become an appliance trafficker
Maybe not recently, but that definitely is a poltical action, i think it is a justified reaction by nintendo but not because it is "non-political"
Making someone political does not equate to making something bad or unneeded
Often times being political is what is needed
maybe this is what trump meant by invigorating domestic businesses and markets
the black market will thrive
If you go on holiday to japan, can you bring back 5 nintendo switches for your family and not have to pay tariffs?
grey market electronics (legit purchases from europe and japan usually which carry no warranty in the US) for example were already doing pretty well
this will supercharge it
you might get away with one, maybe two if you get rid of the packaging
but only if you are an american-born caucasian
everybody else is getting increased scrutiny I hear
putting aside the getting away with it, if you take 5 switches on holiday with you to japan and then bring them back again there are no tariffs right, as they just your possesions you took with you and took back
in theory yeah, in practice they might ask you to provide receipts or proof that it is not an import of a new product
Hmm
I am gonna go frank here and say I am quite the empty can when in terms of global economy
And now the word "tariff" gets thrown around
Like I know what it is
I think I do
hello frank
Tariff :
American buy China parts, buy base price + 46% tariffs
So if part cost 100
Importer pays 146
Am I in the right track so far?
yeah
Okay so with that imposed tariff on the importer
Importer needs margin to resell to American market
Thus more expens
Is that correct?
yes
sometimes parts go back and forth which means tariff multiple times
iirc a lot of car parts do that between canada and mexico
Yeah how in the fuck tariffs will help American people?
Cause I don't see it
And I am probably the most Malaysian around here aka not caring about the US
tariffs are usually used to protect domestic production by making overseas production artificially more expensive
trump seems to think that corporations will suddenly rush to bring production back to the US
Ok but as we all know
Like.....we all know
There isn't mass produce factories in America
as well as paying down the national debt via tariff income
Or there is, just not the important and mundane ones
ironically probably one of the only high value/tech mass manufacturing the US has is starlink terminals
Yeah lmao AMD is in Malaysia
Qualcomm is jumping ship to Malaysia
NVIDIA also I heard, jumping ship to Malaysia
But guess what we also buy raw materials from China
a lot of companies moved from china to vietnam to avoid china tariffs, just for vietnam to get tariffed more than china
yeah thats another big issue that theyve ignored. the supply chain all the way down is mostly china based
So what I am seeing here is iPhones gonna priced more in America
considering there's a 10% base on every country, everything will get more expensive
which is just inflationary
And then they felt "hey I think I might not be able to sustain this let's go back to Android"

but naw wait even budget midrange phones will be priced higher cause chipsets
Am I to understand that America is imploding slowly as we speak?
more or less
Okay huh
That wasn't that hard to understand
So why is them discussing and debating like it's deeper than it is?
who
"No it's not that straightforward, you just don't fully grasp the tariff concept"
Uh massive amounts of internet comments of which I will not mention where they are from
For it will be obvious as to why
tldr is that trying to understand trump is a waste of time
And they insinuating I need to be American to get the benefits of this....tariffs

there's no set rule but a run down of this compared to the other main chat channels is something like:

#kpop-chat-2 - slightly longer conversations, usually about kpop scandals and other things like that but not limited to only that
#1042073107554381864 - longer drawn conversations, usually in the realm of politics/economics/news related stuff

If anyone has to pay it's England, it's their bastard child after all
All of this is amazing to watch

Meet Romulus and Remus—the first animals ever resurrected from extinction. The dire wolf, lost to history over 10,000 years ago, has returned. Reborn on October 1, 2024, these remarkable pups were brought back to life using ancient DNA extracted from fossilized remains.

here's a nice made up graph to show how indices going up doesn't mean much over a long period of time...
dot com bubble got real damn close though
Its like when people talk about how the government is taking in record amounts of taxes (although that might be more a quirk of german politics)

Oh I see
Like really bad
trade wars are usually pretty bad yeah
I’m losing my mind here. USTR made a list of “Unfair trade practices” they’re retaliating against, complaint number 5 is that the EU cares too much about stopping illegal deforestation, complaint number 7 is that the South Americans are doing too much illegal deforestation

you are not alone, highest turkish banknote is also less than 6 dollars of value
hell the 100000 rph are more valuable than the highest turkish banknote of 200 tls currently
albeit there are speculations country could release a 500tl banknote soon, idk if it holds any value though
Slightly concerning that the news of previously announced tariffs actually happening makes the markets nose dive again

BREAKING NEWS: In a shocking statement, Karoline Leavitt confirms the Trump Administration is taking steps on a pathway to deport AMERICAN CITIZENS to El Salvador. This is absolutely insane.
Truly amazing
And in trade war news
On April 17th the U.S. Trade Representative's office is expected to impose fees of up to $1.5M per port call for ships made in China and for $500k to $1M if the ocean carrier owns a single ship made in China or even has one on order from a Chinese shipyard. 🧵 1/
Good thing that there are... checks notes... exactly 0 mega container ships built in the US to compensate this
i dont know shit about bonds but the 30 year just hit 5%
which is apparently really bad
trump ruining america, not surprised
iirc government bonds are supposed to be one of the safest investments. It dropping low should be really bad
China has to pay or US has to pay? I am quite hazy on this part
Well US won't pay
Importers will?
importers
US importers
So you're telling me Xiaomi/Huawei/Honor phones will be priced triple the MSRP?
Like there's gonna be US MSRP, and rest of the world MSRP
You can as a country put tariffs on exports too.
but most of this trade war seems focused on import tariffs/taxes
104% seems like suicidal
Suddenly mundane house hardware will gonna be priced double
Cause like 70% of what we use is most probably Made In China
And definitely not in a thousand years China will even lay a hand on that imposed tariff
They can just do business somewhere else
70% nominally sounds about right, but when you start looking at specific categories, it's nearly 100%.
Well yeah
Suppose a toaster
Might be assembled in the US
But the thermostat is deffo Chinese
Heating element
Circuit
there are simply too many things we no longer produce domestically
and a significant portion of that has to do with electrical and electronic parts
that's not to say there isn't a path towards that domestic production within a decade or so, but this is really an extreme way to go about it
I dunno even a decade seems super optimistic
and to alienate EVERY nation is really just idiotic. You'd want to keep some on your side while you move production stateside.
well it depends
the LABOR is the main issue, who is gonna be doing the work, but moving the production capabilities stateside isn't going to be that challenging if there is a will.
US has to reverse their decision of labeling every immigrant legal or not as "aliens" and that has to happen now
LMAO yeah like
I don't know. there aren't THAT many illegal immigrants in the US to be fair. Just stop giving all the citizens rights and liberty, and we can be just like China in a decade 🙂
These ....so called immigrants have been doing them bottom of the barrel labours that is but a crucial thing to keep a factory running
"Wait...you're making me do this? Clearing the sump?"
to be fair, what you're describing is really state dependent
it's not all illegal immigrants doing the work
"uhuh yeah because this Murjeet guy we've been asking him to do got deported so yeah you're the one's gonna do it after him"
That sounds like Canada, given they are the ones using Indian students as manual labor.
oh kek
