Yeah the main concern is that the CCP could force bytedance to give data of the US users to them
Which is something the US would never do actually
Their stated goal is preventing china from accessing us user data. I dont see why they would need to go after other platforms for that
Just dont follow the logic here
Like I actually agree that misinformation campaigns are a huge problem that western countries have no clue how to deal with
Yea but what do you think the threat becomes from China getting user data? Like what will China use that data for. Would it not be similar to how other countries have been interfering with US politics and social issues using misinformation?
what exactly are they fearing China will do.with the data is what I'm getting at
Is there something more nefarious Idk about?
The US just puts in their ultra secret spyware instead of openly getting the data, come on now. (more or less factual btw.
)
I have read the bill and it seems they have to sell to someone that is not a foreign adevsary and someone Biden approves of
and also it allows them to punish people in the US for using apps that are "controlled by foreign adversaries"
US intelligence is much more stealthy with that yeah lol
The main difference is just that the US govt has soft power over it instead of direct control
You're not forced to give the data if they ask for it but
@marsh oracle let me know what I'm missing
Tiktok collects a ton of data including stuff like clicking patterns. More targeted misinformation is definitely one of the more obvious things you could do, but im sure with some creativity you can do all sorts of things
Like if you get datasets from more websites you can start tracking users across websites and matching up accounts
right but like for what purpose
Only proper use i see is mostly using it to spread propaganda or misinfo as it already happens on uh
All social media platforms
Not really a china thing
I mean russia and china do a lot of it
So does the US, big world powers do that
Especially russia just seems to like causing chaos, they will run bot farms for every cause in the book lol
Also apparently the tiktok bill was shoved in a foreign aid package lol
US makes use of useful idiots more than most as well
yeah a bunch of stuff was shoved into it
Russia under Putin is just scary is the main difference. The US influencing stuff feels far away when Russia is waging a war at our border and meddled in pretty much every recent European election and are actively supporting fringe parties everywhere that in theory should never align themselves with Russia but still do because, you know.
15 different acts whatevers in 1 bill
Seems like the only way the US can pass any bill these days, unfortunately
Broken system is broken
Funny enough tiktok users are younger and lean very much towards the democrat side
Having the tiktok bill shoved into a foreign aid package is just devious
But that's very much how they do stuff so not surprised
yep tiktok is used quite a bit as almost a wide reaching journalistic thing, ppl can be more informed through it and I feel there is a big amount of ppl in US government that don't want to let that happen freely. Censorship already exists on other platforms its just disguised as algorithms pushing certain content over others
which is why I wouldn't look at this tiktok ban at face value
Anyone using Tiktok as their main source of information is lost already
There are credible ppl as well as ppl who are making a mess of things
same with other platforms
As any other social media platform
btw I don't use tiktok
It's too addicting and I can feel it's harmful effects to my attention span lol
I don't watch short form content in general
Thing is, Tiktok is not like "any other SNS platform" - places like Twt, Fb etc. are largely just Hubs where embeds to media & sites get posted, or media from other sources get posted. Tiktok is one of the places those hubs draw from, so more akin to yt, except that its short form content makes it more accessible to the attention span of the current younger generations.
I disagree, ppl make tiktoks of content from other places as well. Ppl will post stuff from other places and just have themselves in the corner nodding
or just straight up narrate it for ppl lol
there's more ways as well
I'll preface this by saying the precedent isn't great and the people drafting this bill definitely don't have the best intentions, but tiktok has not done anything good for society and it would benefit society if people didn't get their information from it. It's just a pit for misinformation and terrible content moderation currently
you see it spill over onto other platforms from time to time, mostly twitter recently
and that's not even touching on the political implications
Personally I don't see a large difference between it and other platforms in terms of misinformation.
Maybe when I used it, I did a better job of tailoring my algorithm
immediately click not interested on BS propaganda stuff and stuff like Alpha male shit
I don't see that as a Tiktok issue, it's mostly a result of how widespread technology is and the kids that were born on a post iPhone world getting to use social media from a young age
I seen loads of educational and informative stuff. Things that in my opinion are the roots for starting movements. Like ppl showcasing the inequality between classes, how dumb the culture wars are, and in general exposing corrupt politicians. Ofc that's with the usual memes, skits, and dancing girls as well
plus I like history stuff
I'm also pretty sure most of that attention span talk is a myth, it's very much exaggerated
Long form video content is very popular among younger people too, people watch very long livestreams, tiktok caused a big resurgence in interest on books recently too
Myth or not, it's what the topic of our conversation caters to
Attention works differently depending on the task you're doing
Don my personal experience is it's not a myth because after a couple days of heavy tiktok use, I could feel myself getting bored of any other media that doesn't get to the point within 3 secs
those kids love their hour long video essays
If you're scrolling through tiktok yeah, that's a short form content platform
no I mean like even watching a slightly longer video on reddit I'd close out of because I got bored it didn't get to the point
I just meant the general "gen z short timespan" thing
I'm sure people have different experiences with how social media affects them
and it's alarming to think younger ppl will feel it's normal because of heavy use from young age
Personally I can't bring myself to watch short form content for any long period of time
yea might be a bit exaggerated
Long period of time: 3 minutes or more
I just can't bring myself to watch it lol
Short form content just feels weird to me
I've heard stories from teachers of kids in 7th grade not knowing how to read properly and they attribute it to too much use of ipads and short form content. As well as pandemic
then again hell that could be propaganda too what the hell do I know
I don't mind it for skits where it makes sense to break things up, but generally I like to put stuff in the background while doing things which short form content is not suited for on a fundamental level
Gotta pay attention to it every few seconds after all
It's just an easy thing to point to
definitely more factors to it as well
but these teachers been in it for a long time and constantly say it's the worst they've seen so far
could be because teachers are underpaid
classes are too big
bad parenting
overworked parents not giving attention to kids because economy so bad they gotta work all the time
The widespread use of technology and having screens in front of our eyes 24 hours a day certainly isn't good its consequences are most likely not entirely known
Pretty sure ive seen studies on changes in attention spans and it also seems to track with what teachers notice in their class rooms
real talk I remember this being a bigger issue but like I use it almost 85% of free time
Do people even actually watch long form content without doing something else on the side?
yea if it's good
but eventually you wanna be stimulated more than just watching
I got a drama on rn I keep pausing to chat here
Depends on the content
That's not really a short attention span thing, it's selective attention
Like attention works normally
Like, I don't need to look at the screen the whole time for a game review or whatever
I'd call that attention multitasking
Other people call it 2nd monitor content
It's mostly based on how interested you are at a given thing, which is just how attention has always worked
Social media is just filed with slightly interesting content you can digest at a glance, so that's how people use it
But if the content or creator really interests you, you'll follow their long form stuff more
It is still possible attention spans have reduced generally, it's just that the way people talk about it is based entirely on vibes
Or that old debunked thing that humans have a shorten attention span than a goldfish
It's this
And also big classes
People don't even put effort in long form content anymore. Visually that is
If we are talking about social media
Every video over 5 minutes is just someone speaking into a camera which doesnt really require you look at it
We still watch movies because there is actually stuff to look at going on at the screen
It's going to get challenged in court and probably wont happen. The court challenge will take a long while and go up to the supreme court. In the meantime the bill will be "stayed" for however long the court battle is.
other possibility is that bytedance just sells to whoever a couple years down the line anyways
Just went to a video marketing webinar last night about short form video
It's the statistics, man
Like I hate it, but wanting to get the highest gross interaction? You almost always have to go that route
lol spotify getting in on the buzzfeed quiz action
new era
girls' generation
old is the new new

what confusing to me is main vocal is always red
they make you pick a colour at the start for no reason
also i was genuinely insulted by this

I'm glad they saved the bees and relocated them
was it another great day of saving the beeeeees?
reminds me of the Home Safety Hotline horror game
reminds me of the result i got 😭
Lmao how big is the chance
lol
that's as slim as meeting alien from outer space
Aint no way
If you wrote that on a story people would say it's too convenient and very contrived
still hilarious
Things I didn't expect to see on Twitter
please write me in for president of europe
We don't have write-ins, sorry
just another reasosn to elect help as president of europe
I will give you write-ins!

airplane people are surely out for blood
Listen man, it's just 2 really freaky coincidences
planes : (
Just use airbus planes instead
there's a third whistleblower so hope he keeps himself safe lol
gotta be scary as hell to be on a situation like this
dude must be fucking panicking rn
Accidents happen, man
he might fall out of a window by accident
But yeah, jesting aside... this is beyond sus
Better buy some boeing stock now before they get the last one
Literally buying the drop
This is rather cynical, ngl
The stock market in a nutshell
Hope the third guy has good security, doubt boeing would be investigated for these coincidences alone
The kendrick vs drake beef is going crazy
I think i had enough staying in this birdland
I hope they keep it to diss tracks
because there's good history of these beefs going further than they should...
Eh, neither of these two are on that level
This is more like Nikki vs. Cardi or something
Perfect marketing, really
Marketing? I don’t think drake is signing off on being called a pedo
kendrick just hates the guy it be like that sometimes
sometimes you're just a hater
reasonable discrediting of character
yeah being a hater on that level takes a lot of skill
happy birthday to John Rhys-Davies the actor who played Gimli for his 80th birthday today
but also rip to Bernard Hill the actor who played Théoden that died today
Basically a teenager
Bernard Hill would be 80 this year as well in December
john rhys-davies being 80 is crazy. he looked old back when he was in indiana jones and that was like 35 years ago.
That drake diss was weak
yeah, they have beef for like over 10 years now
Aight I think I’m caught up with all the diss tracks
Family matters was definitely the better diss, but not like us is a banger
hahaha
Happy victory day my friends
oh how the time flies
In case you missed it, bits of the brain implant have broken loose and are floating around in the dude's brain.
They think it's because the surgery introduced AIR into the dude's BRAIN.
I'm sure it'll be fine. https://t.co/VPTHdRX7BB
"Sacrifices have to be made in the name of science" - Elon, probably
Walking through the city during election season is hilarious bcs all the posters of the parties are there but the right wing one always gets vandalized and shredded to pieces lmao
good that they dont take them down instead and hang them up after the election period is over. because that would mean fines for them (the party), at least in germany.
well there was an assassination attempt against the slovakian prime minister
Wild. It's been a while since something like this has happened
who did he piss off?
I mean
I haven't kept up with that part of the world's politics recently, did he go against EU/NATO or was it against Russia/China? 😄
last one of these sort of was Japan's ex-prime minister getting slugged because of a Korean cult association (at least that was the assassin's justification)
at least in relatively peaceful countries, not constantly violent ones
Ex being the key word here
This dude's security was clearly lacking
He has ties with Mafia where there was an assassination against a journalist that was investigating those ties like 4 years ago
and he is a Russia speedrun politician
literally doing the same thing that Orban has been doing except 4 times faster
he polarizes the slovakian population a lot
I don't really get an EU and NATO country's leaders aligning themselves with Russia even by implication if not explicitly.
like I don't really think either side are blameless in the shitshow happening, but if your country is already in one sphere of influence, what is there to gain from significantly rocking the boat?
well the goverment has already been calling for a political war against the opposition and the media because of this
seems like it is going to make the situation more volatile
ah I see, so they're not just Orban speedrunning in the Russian support sense, but also speedrunning the illiberal democracy authoritarian part too.
yeah as soon as he came to power they immediately started going for the media
and butchering all the anti-corruption laws
it was a small crowd of his supporters where the shooter was one of the people that told him to come there and then he pulled out a gun and shot at him 5 times
pretty much, those votes were the only ones available for him. he got completely disgraced after the assassination of a journalist mugen wrote about, the only reason he even got a chance to come back was because the elections were won by a populist clown that made complete mess of a covid and pretty much everything else. so he came back as the anti-system "hero" (that was the prime minister in 2006-2010 and 2012-2018 lol) that will save the common folk from EU, minorities, genders and all the standard stuff
lots of conflicting information about the assailant surfacing, this will be a mess
Clearly it was the woke left or something
it was some 71 year old man and the first stuff coming up was that he didn't like what they were doing against the media etc. after that came up some links to pro-russia paramilitary group and night wolves
Next shocking thing you say is that Russia might be involved
what is the truth I have no idea, the thing that I'm worried about is that the truth won't ultimately matter anyway
chatgpt has techincal interview trauma
he just like me fr
lmao
so apparently they gutted the security force after they got elected and put in their people lacking proper experience
Fucked around and found out
many such cases
bruh
hahaha
lol
this is insane lmao

Ooooooh boy
Iranian president has crashed with his helicopter and has yet to be found
lol
Surely this will be good for the stability in the region and no bad things will happen because of it
Maybe the next guy will stop supplying multiple terrorist groups
Well, since it seems likely a military man might take over you might see more.... direct approaches
might have been an insider job if their IRGC want even more control than they already have.
and they can twist it to blame Israel, US or otherwise too.
but by hanlon's razor, there are enough helicopter crashes every month even by competent low drag spec op teams and training groups that one could just attribute it to the horrible weather conditions and mountainous environment
Sure, but apparently it was a 3 helicopter formation and only the one with him inside crashed and the other 2 just continued and landed safely
Been a hot minute of countries' leaders' lives potentially being lost huh
first with ... what was it, slovakia or slovenia? and now this.
Basically just scroll up for the answer to that
Well, he's confirmed dead now, so we'll see I guess
But on a lighter note, this was a serious post. People on twt sure are something.

there are laser weapons that can be used surface to air. Not human vision spectrum visible but also a stretch
Also, this statement can probably have a little sliver of potentially familiar topic
How many times has it happened where a bigger government ensured that a leader was killed off to then help instill one that reflects different, politically beneficial values?
They just sent drones and missiles against one of the most heavily military-industrial-backed state in the world a couple months ago
The problem here is that they got the wrong guy
Irans president doesnt really hold any power
clerical perhaps, but there is still worry over sudden demise
The biggest worry here is that people use this as a means to incite worse things I'd say
i read a comment that said this president was basically next in line to be supreme leader
so now there's a bit of a power vacuum
supreme leader is like 85 or some shit and about to die
the reigning global superpower disapproved that is for sure as I hinted above.
If you ignore that, I can see where you can go wrong with it but we trust lesser things to be very precise. A needle to extract properly the blood and our brains to understand very plain, literal language.
Also yeah, this. He was set to become next... whatever they call it. Spiritual leader or whatever.
I have only listened to the news on radio but apparently many people in Iran are happy that he's gone
And many other people are carefully noting who is expressing happiness for later, yeah
yeah.
Yeah it can tell me to play final fantasy for another 8 hours
It's funny that it was added through windows update to win10 and win11 without any opt-in or any options to remove it other than going through registry.
The 8 show got a huge plot hole
It's starting to get downhill from here on
good thing i disabled windows update in advance :)
like 5 months ago i think

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midler_v._Ford_Motor_Co. Theres already precedence for this, not looking good for openai
Midler v. Ford Motor Co., 849 F.2d 460 (9th Cir. 1988) is a United States Court of Appeals case in which Bette Midler sought remedy against Ford Motor Company for a series of commercials in the 1980s which used a Midler impersonator. The case brought into question if a unique feature, such as a voice, can distinguish someone and thus must be au...
Wait, on the surface this looks cool
Not sure if I want AI to micromanage my life honestly
next time i'll ask and guide copilot to beat candy crush game
if it was entirely contained locally, sure, it's cool, but that's not what Microsoft is doing and this is beyond bad.
damn my netflix price going up by 2
lol fuck this
if this gets forced on ill just switch to ltsc
Sometimes we can't have nice things
they really need to add an opt-in or a way to turn it off without doing it through registry. they're even introducing a (so far ARM-only) Copilot+ branding ... https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/05/microsofts-copilot-ai-pc-requirements-are-embarrassing-for-intel-and-amd/
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/05/microsofts-new-recall-feature-will-record-everything-you-do-on-your-pc/
microsoft single-handedly increasing the linux market share
The EU will stomp on them for this, no worries
damn :(

Apparently it requires the new snapdragon ARM CPUs with ai stuff onboard so likely running locally, at least in part
Still wouldn’t want a chunk of my system dedicated to that shit
hey at least it gives one a way to avoid anything labeled with copilot or copilot+ branding
just avoid the qualcomm win11 PCs!
(but I suspect this is not the end of it, and they'll relegate some of it to cloud services without any opt-in or opt-out for PCs that don't have the higher end NPUs)
a bit ironic that they are calling their emulation layer "PRISM" on those ARM PCs running the latest snapdragon.
which was also the name of the NSA program Microsoft is a part of that was exposed by Snowden lol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRISM
obviously prism is a fine name for an x86-64 emulator on ARM, but I just found it a bit funny when their ARM PCs are also heavily associated with this Recall and Copilot+ branding
Everyone help me out. Am I reading into it too much or is this a meme about nazis? Saw some ppl post it not noticing it.
its a jojo reference
the character is a nazi with like weapon body augmentations, and the comedy comes from their enthusiasm for "german engineering"
not sure if that makes it better out of context
hmm i see still kinda confusing but makes more sense

also I enjoyed the couple of crayon pop references in there
intentional or not
I hope it'll turn out well for them...
tough read, the turbulence was so sudden and violent :/
This is pretty bad
i have the ask meta AI shit in my insta now but i havent gotten anything like that
their terms essentially allow them to use everything from FB, insta and whatsapp, private or public or otherwise, to train their models, that's pretty messed up,
pinky promise that it'll be all anonymized of course
it's not their employees...
It's the robot they placed into your app that you accepted when you agreed to the terms and such
So is the Titanic wreck just gonna be our disposal site for rich assholes now?
can they do that but with a steam controller?

Looking for kdrama recs. Recent ones i've watched that i enjoyed are Death's Game, The Glory, Revenant, The Worst of Evil. I just want some stuff that has good stakes and good writing, don't care for sappy romances much especially when they are shoehorned in shows that don't need it or could've done it better (gyeongseong creature).
my name is really good
ah tried that and got near end until i stopped because i just realized I wasn't invested in the MC's revenge because the ||the goal of just killing the bad guy seemed too simple|| but i did like the setup as unrealistic as it seemed

Exposing the innocent to kpoop is not an act of love
HOLY SH**t . This is absolute BONKERS. Adobe’s new terms of service (that forces you to agree or your locked out of your Adobe products) not only lets Adobe access to your private content (I bet to train more ai data) but also gives them a license for them to reproduce and distribute your work. LMAO WHAT?!!!!
Adobe really don't want anyone to actually buy their products, huh
good thing i moved to clip studio a couple years ago
adobe is super convenient for most creative fields but man they fucking suck
and deserve absolutely nothing
Best part is, they completely locked you out until you agree to these ToS, so you couldn't even cancel your membership without agreeing to this
Sucks it's basically impossible to replace the convenience of using their products in the industry lol
idt there's anything that works quite as well and wouldn't disrupt a bunch of stuff just for being less convenient and taking more time
That's sorta the problem, isn't it. They think they can get away with it because what are people gonna do
Yeah they're the industry standard
Next up is them reading all your PDFs if you wanna keep access to them, bet
I'd think they probably already do some sort of scan on that for anything on creative cloud
Including any documents
the improving software applying to anything you create when people know there's a generative AI tool on said software also doesn't help
Yeah, they just wanna train their shitty AI, it has little to nothing to do with content moderation or software improvement
I'm vibin with clip studio paint thankfully
I also would never pay for adobe products

technology reaching crazy levels
you can rearrange in the grid but cant leave gaps
they got their best engineers on the job and made it happen. truly groundbreaking tech
siri getting on-device ai and chatgpt integration is something I didn’t see coming
throwback to jailbreaking so you could do that
kinda hella confusing as this feature basically the most basic feature any phones can have
how did that feature only implemented to iOS 10 years later is just mindblowingly awkward
Fucking finally
Holy shit
They're finally adding window snapping to Macos

I think I could probably find a better character to use than ß, in some places it looks relatively normal, others not so much. There's other things you can do with this update, like extremely long handles and extremely short ones. May make a video on that in the future, once the update is complete (assuming they don't backtrack).
Looking at the shit Elon liked it's obvious why
Welp
how am I supposted to know if Lorde is alive and kicking now
my girl goes off the grid most of the time
Definitely unrelated, right
At least this would be less nefarious than doing this because of all the national stuff
could be partially related. twitter never really banned porn, even if it wasn't official policy to allow it.
it was the only major SNS that openly had explicit content
Or more accurately, the only one that wasn't dumb enough to try and ban it
Trying that already killed a number of platforms
Very good point
generally doing that to appease advertisers kills the platform
advertisers and investors yeah
luckily twitter drove those out through different means!
sometimes done shortly before being bought up by a public company or going for IPO themselves
reddit tried to do that for a hot minute too

Things can only get betting
Rishi Sunak aide placed bet on election date days before announcement https://t.co/jdiSJ23Qpp
Truly big brain moves
wow wonder how he knew the election was coming!
Surely Tories must have less obvious ways of miraculously getting "lucky"
sadly they do just seem to be that stupid
I wonder if there are laws or regulations against that for members of parliament or whatever they are called
usually there aren't ways to hold them accountable for that
theres plenty of ways to hold them accountable
like in the US with stock trading by members of congress
they just wont
well yeah the etablishment government would never hold its own people accountable
and the next one probably wants to do the same so they won't retroactively go after opposition
usually anyway
It's just so brazen
YouTube is currently experimenting with server-side ad injection. This means that the ad is being added directly into the video stream.
This breaks sponsorblock since now all timestamps are offset by the ad times.
guess the fight against adblockers on client side didn't go so well
now they'll go the twitch route probably
save me, purple ads blocker
but that also means timestamps are going to become broken
like when annotations became broken (or removed altogether I guess)
this will also be a disaster for any video downloading and archiving if they go this route widespread
Not really, shouldn't change anything for premium users
So those video downloader sites just need one (1) premium sub to function just fine
so far giving yt-dlp a premium subscribed username password does seem to resolve the issue
Prediction: someone will make a plugin for public likes... and Elon gets exposed for liking crazy shit.
https://fxtwitter.com/elonmusk/status/1801045558318313746 humans are such curious creatures, everybody logging onto twitter and liking stuff exactly on the hour and logging back off again
very normal
The new outlook is such an unusable pos. It just feels unproductive to use, looks terrible, and is lacking features that even windows mail had >_>
yeah and my employer decided to migrate us from google suite to using everything microsoft from next week 🙃
why
lol
but it was always allowed
I think you can say porn
if he says porn the indonesian snipers will get him
you might get jailed
but regardless govmnt has nothing to do about proxy/vpns
so there's that
oh, and dns too

it's not the concern about govmnt blocking twitter
it's just about how the country's government itself is fucked
twitter should be banned worldwide tbf
Whatever meager entertainment it provides does not make up for the sheer ammoujt of nazi propaganda it spreads
dachshund
gesundheit
thanks
I mean if you start there, all of them should be banned. FB was the main place a lot of that shit spread for years and years, and TikTok nowadays isn't that far off, albeit different kind of propaganda.
we must return to hunter gatherer communities
now that sounds like my dad and brothers conversations...
return to monke
most people wouldn't last a month without clean water and modern medications
they didn't last long back then either
longer than a month lol

at this point im sure thats probably been the premise for a mrbeast video already
SURVIVE ON THIS ISLAND ALONE FOR A WHOLE WEEK AND THE ISLAND IS YOURS!
would you SURVIVE in the WOODS for ONE MONTH for TEN BILLION DOLLARS? (You're diabetic and wheelchair bound)
that's just evil
next thing you know, retvrn to monke will involve getting hunted by other humans
and then they'll make a movie about it
and video game category
you could make a religion out of this
and knockoffs and knockoffs of those knockoffs...
tax free 30,000 acres of land, perfect
somehow I have a feeling we're going to see such things within our lifetimes...
congrats on the doctorate in flying help
thanks brady
aww hell nah indonesia already made an alter twitter/x lmao

Idk at leas ot wasnt Zuckerberg himself posting and sharing it
But yeah all social media is garbage
Turns out they psyop accusations from antivaxxers were real just not in the way they thought
Does it really surprise anyone the Trump admin would run something like this

Oh it worked, alright. Lots of people delayed taking their covid vaccines because they were waiting for Pfizer/Moderna. Doesn't help that our president at that time was a China bootlicker.
unfortunate hand 🃏
How does that relate though?
If they were a China bootlicker they should not have fallen for anti-china propaganda
Oh the president was promoting China like his overlords, but he was also on his second half of the term, and showed a really bad track record. So the opposition also made use of that USA propaganda, i guess.
In the wake of the U.S. propaganda efforts, however, then-Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte had grown so dismayed by how few Filipinos were willing to be inoculated that he threatened to arrest people who refused vaccinations.
“You choose, vaccine or I will have you jailed,” a masked Duterte said in a televised address in June 2021. “There is a crisis in this country … I’m just exasperated by Filipinos not heeding the government.”
that's from a reuters article
the despot's ideology is not always indicative of civilian sentiment.
the people grow resentful of these types when the leaders show their focus is elsewhere
so mark rutte became the navo leader huh
Just stop oil protestors damage Stonehenge 😭
What a bunch of dipshits, honestly
Wow to make sure absolutely no one supports your cause 101
these kids should be jailed
Oh no the rocks
that doesn't rock
eat the rich but actually?
Bahama like the aespa song?
Julian Assange is free letsgooo
Cant those dudes just stop trying to ruin bolivia for a hot minute
moderator: what are your views on the economy?
joe biden: i. well i uh. [nose starts bleeding] hmm.
donald trump: we’re gonna find and kill the grinch. mark my words. we are gonna use the big guns. it’s gonna be something folks
this meme kinda relates again
Seems only slightly unconstitutional
Time to protest by teaching the truly fun parts
Yes
maybe they can take turns teaching the bible lessons or something
there's a reason they did it when school year has concluded
they fully expect it to be struck down both in state court and in federal court before the start of the new school year in late august/early september
this is just to create a challenge that will make its way slowly to the supreme court
most appointed judges have no term limit, the elected ones of course have to keep winning too
and yes there are elected judges in the US lol
great idea to have the judiciary be party based and ideologically driven
though elected judges are just for some of the states, federal judges are all appointed
I just wish we could consolidate it more
judges would never be partial thats against the rules
they also tend to die (or have family members die) when they get a little too close to the sun
is that because they're all wax figures
judge named icarus
Makes sense, The Sun is rainbow press after all

korean healthcare system saving my ass again
dust fucking with me for the last week just tried to recover normally from it but wasn't working
went to the doctor to just get the good shit

would be nice if the healthcare system in america was like this
instead I gotta worry about getting a medical bill for the price of a new car for just going because I have a slight cold
unlucky
that's not nice from dust
well that depends if it was meant literally or not

:madge:
Biden has the opportunity to do the funniest thing
linking something behind a paywall smh my head
oh weird
honestly if you wanna go beyond the headlines on this kind of stuff, youre better off reading the decisions and the dissents
but anyway
Shockingly the completely unbiased judges on the Supreme Court decided in his favor... again.
i hear theres some hamas tunnels under mar-a-lago
he got what he wanted, delaying it past the election
the ruling in its detail sort of makes sense, if it wasn't viewed through this whole Trump saga, that a president's official actions while in office would be generally immune from prosecution after he is no longer president.
it's trying to prevent a banana republic nonsense of constantly prosecuting former presidential office holders for their actions during their time in office.
it's just that the american system seems to operate under the general presumption that people are not malicious and vindictive and criminal while they hold a high elected office...
on its face it makes sense, but the dissents go into some of the potential consequences
like if biden just walks up and shoots trump now there would be a legal battle up to the supreme court over whether or not that was an official action
whens the next clownshow debate
pretty late i think
need to see biden jacked up on adderal instead of a gummy like last week
I wonder if amphetamines would help much at 81-82yo
next time he'll be locked in
still crazy that the entire media cycle was about bidens poor showing when trump has neither been more unhinged lmao
almost as if they were waiting for an opportunity to drop Biden
cause trump being unhinged is just a given
the media has been saying biden is perfectly fine all year
i thought lefties would realize trump isnt actually good for palestine after he said he would let israel finish the job but i guess not
that would require US progressives to have any critical thinking skills instead of just regurgitating what tiktok says
it's not that they are oblivious to it
it's that they are seeing the current administration do what it is doing and are trying to punish them
without thinking of the consequences
if Biden or Trump choice makes no difference when it comes to Israel-Palestine, why not just punish the ones in charge right now
that's their mental gymnastics
which I can respect to an extent, but disagree with
it's also what's happening in most of Europe
and Canada
and somewhat what happened in NZ
that sounds about right for parliamentary systems, 8-10 years cycles of voting out the party in charge
UK's doing the opposite, voting in the left instead of the right, because the conservative tories there fucked up so badly
Genuinely, Europe doesn't give too many fucks, nor should they. We have our own war to deal with
It's an emotional response yeah
But unfortunately any vote that isn't going for Biden is basically the same as giving Trump a vote, it be like that, just feels bad to vote for Biden
Even when it's pretty much the only choice lol
bernie can still win
340 million people, two mega political parties with hundreds of billions at their disposal
and Trump, Biden, and ... Bernie is the best they could ever come up with
it'd be funny if it didn't mean almost certain disaster
It doesn't help that none of the people in actual power would serve anything but self interest
the sheer scale of fundraising and campaign spending in the US is so obscene
you could combine all of the rest of the anglosphere (UK, Aus, NZ, Canada, etc) campaign spending, and add all of western europe's campaign spending, and it would still not match how much the US spends on election related stuff...
Basically one election cycle is enough money to literally feed the world for an extended period of time
It's great
and we're constantly in election cycles
when it's not presidential, it's midterm or mid-midterm lol
Or, you know. Solve any of the huge structural problems the US has
I can't recall a time in my life in the US that there wasn't an election campaign going on
that would require them to serve something other than self interest as you said...
like their constituents they are meant to represent...
if other parties want to be viable and an actual option they needed to get to work a decade ago. It doesnt even start with a presidential candidate either. You need local elected officials, then state representatives, then senators that are of that third party for it to be even considered. The problem is you got the US House of Reps, US Senate, Supreme Court, and President if one of those things are in disagreement goodbye to change. As we have seen recently with the SC overturning decades of rulings because they now have a conservative majority.
People are only focused on the President because they are the figurehead of the party for 4-8 years instead of the whole which affects more
Quite honestly, it seems unrealistic for anyone to break up the 2 party system
used to be quite a bit more, but they just either fell out of favor or assimilated to the other 2
its interesting because the uk has a pretty similar system with first past the post, but even they have more than 2 parties
and one of their big 2 is about to drop out of the big 2
They even had a couple coalitions, ye
the last election to have more than 2 parties to pick up electoral votes was in 1968 IIRC
although maybe the tories just absorb reform after this election and we are back to smaller parties assimilating into the big 2
do NOT count Ross Perot in 1992
2 biggest things blocking multiple parties is Electoral College and an absence of Ranked Choice Voting
Doesn't help that 3rd party in the US seem to be even more nutjobs than the established party radical parts
you mean these guys arent insane? https://youtu.be/ZITP93pqtdQ
some dude once called the german libertarian party a "for fun party"
Perfectly normal, clearly
there just wont be more than 2 to get actual electoral votes until the other parties start to get to work at the local level and then spread out.
You probably wouldnt even see results for a decade or so
Minor parties are great and all until you realize they’re all lunatics and the only one you vibe with never hits the 5% threshold
do any of you actually know who these other people are. I mean look at the vote totals, most Americans dont either.
I didnt even know who McMullin was until after that election
I actually do, but then again I'm old and remember Jill ruining some Democrat bid or another
Don't know McMullin though
only spy I know is Archer
A Russian spy?
an American one who thought he could parlay that into a presidential run
Hey, it worked in Russia
Unfortunately for numerous reasons right leaning 3rd parties have fared a little bit better than progressive ones at least recently. The last "progressive" one that got any bit of electoral votes was Teddy Roosevelt with 88 in 1912 lol.
Usually the right leaning 3rd party candidates/parties were worse than republicans
forcing to pick which one between Trump and Biden is like choosing one of two poisons
it's just to pick the lesser lethal one
I don't think lesser of two evils exactly applies if one actively wants democracy to be done with. If you want a better argument it would be who is the better adversary to go against.
september

@charred fulcrum
when can we get this
This guy is 100 years ahead of us
What keys are exactly?
HAH?
Over what?
CAT7 tops at 10 Gbps
Full duplex is 400Gbps
That world record is 10^4 that
you could click through the article which says standard commercially available fiber https://www.nict.go.jp/en/press/2024/06/26-1.html
An international joint research team led by the Photonic Network Laboratory of the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT, President: TOKUDA Hideyuki, Ph.D.), demonstrated a record-breaking aggregate optical transmission bandwidth of 37.6 THz to enable a new data-rate record of 402 terabits per second in a commerci...
Oh wait
Ah I see they're not using standard protocols
So they're using standard issue optic fibre
Just not standard issue protocols
That makes sense
the backup database that got ransom'd
Whose backup database?
Reading it doesn't reveal me the affected party is someone major or no- wait
national data center
which is
our personal datas
Kominfo?
yes
Oh fuck wow ok
even minister had to step down bc of how they couldn't able to handle this
initally they use the datas for sold
but hackers apologized for that and will return the data tomorrow
Hah
So like they went "haha govt security go crashing down, we got y'all data....wait...that means my mom's data gonn get exposed...ok sorry"
Ok but like that first part of the statement is kinda agreeable
Yeah, get better specialists, not some intern you hire to cover up your bureaucracy bullshit
(Happens everyday at Malaysia too)
or maybe bc of what movement the kominfo had
to ban twitter
but luckily that plan got scrapped at last minute
ministry just gave up on it
oh yeah that happened
I dunno but in any capacity (except China and North Korea)
Banning major social media site is just not gonna work
there are some exceptions as you noted, they limit the gateways that allow internet into their countries severely and as a result can do whatever they want more or less
China, North Korea, Iran and similar have basically full control over their country's internet communications with the outside and run essentially an intranet domestically
I am probably insensitivized
But it's 21st century
Internet access is like free speech so that shouldn't be restricted (to a degree)
insensitivized
that's quite a creative one...
well how many countries do you know that support free speech wholeheartedly?
anyone i disagree with online should lose their internet access until i change my mind
even within the "free" western world, internet free speech is rarely true free speech
Well I did say (to a degree)
the degree should be further defined though
Fair
example of the woman who went to jail for insulting a rapist in Germany recently being a degree off what I would consider acceptable limits on internet free speech...
yo what
just google it, I can't find a reliable news source for that lol
it's mostly covered by right wing news since the rapist were immigrants
and I don't trust right wing news, but I did see it float around reddit and twitter some days ago
and looked up the case and there was some validity to it, but it wasn't worth covering for most media outlets I guess
🤷♀️
Her weekend in jail was partially due to her previous conviction for theft.
She had also missed the court hearing for the case.
So not directly related to her defaming
it's funny how right wing news frames it that way lol
but yeah there's always more to it
still, the fact that they formed a court hearing for speech expressed on the internet that did not cause any obvious direct harm is certainly interesting
the US is pretty unique in its very broad definition of free speech, and even that came under some challenge during the covid years...
That by itself should tell you everything you need to know.
the same guy who basically said "I am not a church boy. I am not running like that. I said … I had a very, very rambunctious youth. I said in my announcement speech that I have … so many skeletons in my closet, that if they could all vote, I could run for king of the world,”
That was in relation to him taking advantage of his kids' nanny, right
that explains a lot actually
Perfectly normal
oh, I'm sorry I lied. He said a tape worm ate part of his brain
but he's perfectly fine now
We only use a tiny part of our brains anyway, it's fine
To give context btw, this was so insane that 2 complete unrelated people who usually never post politics put it on my tl at the same time. Not a huge surprise his family pretends he doesn't exist
you still have certain people believing that JFK Jr. is somehow still alive and that he will run after Trump
This has out of context lily book club clip vibes
It's out of context, but I don't think the full context (which I did look up for that matter) adds anything to male this less unhinged
Oh i know this is not what I was implying
Im just saying this sounds like something lily would say
congrats brits for sending tories back to the stone age for at least 4-5 years to come.
crazy seat change stats
Supermajority be like
apparently uk govt doesn't have a supermajority thing
apparently they changed the law last year so there isnt a 15 year lock out on overseas votes
so i could have voted in this, i think
Wait, you're actually British?
I guess it's a commonwealth thing that you can just live in NZ no problem like that
probs but i have dual citizenship now
its just that the nz passport at this point is just as powerful if not more than the UK one lol
cant spell kairu without uk i guess
gonna give up my british citizenship now
Oh damn... the election results are all well and good, but you guys managed to let Nigel into your parliament @proud tulip
Never lucky
yeah unfortunate
he picked a random seaside town with lots of old people
easy to scare them into the vote
just put him in a corner with corbyn and pretend they don't exist
Doesn't he have to have a residency there
nah
Only one person on my local ballot actually lived locally
he was also the guy i voted for and he won, so im happy
That's kinda.... broken system tbh
Isn't the whole paint about local reps that they stand for your local issues
yeah, thats how it should be, and a lot of the time they can be local
Which they won't know shit about if they're never there
but theres no written rule that they have to be
labour candidates are usually local
tory candidates usually always live in london/the wealthy outskirts
wow
Gee, I wonder who made it so candidates don't have to live (or at least have residency) local
my mp is a local
he just also in the cabinet so hes lived in london for 20 years
not a career politician
Those tend to be the best ones if they're not populists
the sad part about this result is that that turnout has been abysmal
its like 60%
yeah
there was a lot of people mentioning that turnout was low bc labour was so heavily expected
that a lot of people thought whats the point
which is a dangerous mindset
i always vote, regardless of the predicitions
brexit taught me that
the news was so confused when labour got to 30% on the count and won by default somehow
seeing 60% turnout being called abysmal is kinda funny, ngl
yep
The toughest of lessons
true
dropping almost 10 percent isnt great
especially since its been 5 years since the last one
I will admit that I looked at the results and went "... what?"
Like... they only have 11% more than Tories, but somehow 290 more seats
Makes no sense to me, but ye
yeah fptp system is weird
labour lost 40% of the vote and still won in my area
i watch a video every few years to remind myself how it works
uk general election
parliament is UK
not english
Ah right. Shouldn't it be more then though
saw some wales folk on twitter celebrating that they got rid of all tories
I mean shouldn't they be getting more reps from the Scottish districts of the UK election
Or are sheep voting labour
mixed bag
But hey, at least you guys got rid of Rees-Mogg in exchange for Nigel
Honestly don't know which is worse, but it's something
First past the past is amazingly terrible lmfao
Wdym they'll remove comments
Comments are also tweets
That's like half of everyone's timeline
Sheeple always voting for the woke
True

in terms of permissions requests and telemetry, it's about the same as amazon or facebook, which also act like spyware lol
but thankfully both android and ios have a lot of built-in permission denials and opt-ins now
All of these apps are Spyware, they all collect and sell your data
basically their primary function lol
it's a big market out there
to sell/broker/exchange personal data to anyone who offers a few pence
the returns can be big ye
Just accept that Google knows all and use it to log in everywhere
Easy
Using twt or fb though....
google search results are rather frequently coming up in criminal court cases for premeditation evidence
and google provides it almost willingly and freely, sometimes without any warrant
so if you're going to do something criminal, don't google how to or its details on google beforehand lol
or do, so you can get caught and we'd be rid of criminal scum
it's crazy how bad opsec most criminals have
I suppose if they had higher intelligence, they wouldn't be criminals, or at least they'd go for white collar crimes... or become lawyers or politicians or beaurocrats, criminals in different clothing lol
속보)윤석열 탄핵소추안 법사위 즉각 상정 🔥🔥🔥
very interesting, the oppositions (which is the majority) demanded an impeachment trial for president
the trial will be held on July 19th and 26th
finally
This seems perfectly normal. I've seen this in countless video games after all
The software can verify the buyer's identity and determine whether the machine matches the identification scanned, according to American Rounds.
surely this is a foolproof system and nothing could go wrong
expected nothing less
Oklahoma and Alabama be like
Elon thought getting ratiod was bad and got rid of it, surely getting mass dislikes on his tweets will make this a long lasting feature
what's worse is getting worser
tho i can see that the number of dislikes will be always hidden
just like youtube, but
with the power of plugins it doesn't matter anyways
it's not like getting ammunition in 90% of the states even requires identification past verifying if they're 18 or not
I'd be more worried about the facial recognition software that scanner is using for other commercial purposes of the identities being scanned
South Korean politics is so fascinating
the 'liberal' socialist more center-left/left side is more nationalistic and far less tolerant of the idea of more immigration than the 'conservative' center-right/righ-wing side
I'm sure nothing will go wrong mixing socialism and nationalism.
it's going on rollercoaster in country's politics
Idk this is just how its been in the past
Free trade, free movement of labor has always been a more libertarian idea whereas workers parties or similar ones would be against these to protect local workers against immigrants willing to work for lower wages
Oh and just in case but if you genuinely think the nazis mixed socialism with nationalism you gotta sue your history teacher or something
Theres an ancap "history youtuber" who claimed the nazis lost the war because their supply lines were state run when the most economicaly rational way to do it would be to have private companies compete at auctions for supllying rights for each corp
If your supply lines in the army are state owned = socialism
Its foolproof
ancap
I guess the shift happened quite a while ago, and I get what you're saying but I'm not sure how far I'd have to go in the past to see that, since it's not been that way in my lifetime, and certainly Korea's democratic history isn't that long either. Liberals and left-wing politics shifted to pro inclusion pro immigration at least 30+ years ago across the world, if not even earlier. I suppose 'populist' movements have usually been more protectionist, nationalistic and oriented towards 'protecting local/native peoples and businesses' from globalism and immigration and fighting against the 'elites', regardless of which side of the political spectrum they rose from.
Though globalism for a long time was something the right pushed. Biggest disservice to the people has been tying labor/workers parties and ideologies to the left only, instead of letting them borrow ideas from both sides of the ideological spectrum for the betterment of the people. Perhaps the biggest shift has been that the elites were traditionally more right-wing, and now the elites are more left-wing.
It has been interesting to see the shift of which side sees what as boogeyman though within my own lifetime, with the whole WEF/Davos thing being the boogeyman of the left and now being the boogeyman of the right...
And no, I obviously don't think that, was just funny to make a national socialism joke in that moment >_>
Though to be honest, history classes at secondary school level never really explain the differences between Nazism's version of "socialism" vs. the more commonly accepted definition of economic and societal socialism or even the leftist Marxist definition of international socialism. Nobody really explains that unless you do your own self studies or are a history major...
Man, that "I'm totally mentally fit to rule" press conference Biden is doing rn is.... not going well, lol
Or just did, rather
Joe Biden mistakenly calls Kamala Harris “Vice President Trump.”
feels bad
How much of a
are we in rn, Americans
Considering this guy is still the better choice by a giant margin, its looking pretty dire

we're fucked
help write-in campaign
US President Joe Biden mistakenly introduced Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as Russian President Vladimir Putin at a NATO summit on Jul 11.
The 81-year-old quickly corrected himself, but the gaffe intensified concerns about Biden's mental acuity after a disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump two weeks ago.
oh.

Day coulda gone better
Pretty tough to say 4 months out. I have a friend that works for campaigns keep telling me that from all of what they've seen and have access to them it is Biden 270-268 Trump at this moment. That is the closest election in U.S. history. Personally, everything is a toss up this far out, maybe a month out is a clearer picture. There is a historian named Allan Lichtman who studies elections that correctly predicted the winner of every U.S. presidential election since 1984 outside of 2000. He has basically said any replacing is a doomed mission for Dems. If you want to hear him talk about the upcoming election more then here is an interview with him and the model https://youtu.be/X4VemewGU6o https://www.american.edu/cas/news/13-keys-to-the-white-house.cfm
-- Allan Lichtman, political historian, author, and professor at American University in Washington DC, joins David to discuss his "Keys to the White House," whether the June 27 presidential debate has any bearing on his model, and his prediction for the 2024 presidential election

TLDW: If Biden is not the nominee, then he must resign so that Harris can be president until the election and try as hard as they can to get those voters to her. The VP pick would be pretty important depending on the state they are from.
If you want to look at polls Emerson College had Biden/Trump tied in polling while other potential nominees are down 6-10 points. That's just one poll out of many and there's always point differentials in reality. Also they could possibly make up that difference if they got out and campaigned.
There's nothing wrong with Biden as a president, he has 55+ years of DC politics related experience, has a very competent team around him, and nobody really expects the president to run everything micromanaged anyway. I have no doubt he got 4-5 more years in him to run the country. The problem is that he still has to win again and I'm not sure he has it in him to do one more massive national campaign.
Somehow, despite everything wrong with Biden right now as a presidential nominee (seriously, this is just elder abuse at this point), Kamala Harris would be much worse as far as likeability, electability, and otherwise.
he did fill out how the keys fall for both biden and harris vs trump. Personally, I dont see either Biden or Trump making it through their 2nd terms respectively.
Democrats shot themselves in the foot not running a proper primary and pushing hard for Biden to be the nominee again and silencing all the internal and external critics in any press they had any influence over. It was fairly clear to most non-political observers that Biden was running out of steam quite literally in front of everybody's eyes whenever he had any non-curated speaking event of any kind.
They ran very much a "party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears" pre-campaign since 2023.
They can wait for the inauguration and hit biden with the good ol north korean umbrella
to be fair it is very hard for an incumbent president to lose re-election in the primary stage. It has never happened and only 10 incumbent presidents have lost a re-election bid with Trump being the first since George H.W. Bush in 1993.
