Marketing strategy.
Someone proposes an absurd solution having in mind to reach a more modest goal.
Example:
I have something worth 1k.
I propose you to buy it for 5k.
You refuse and we make a deal for 3k.
I did earn 2k extra.
You are happy as you think you saved 2k.
In my case I propose the absurd option to strangle the customer, but actually is annoying when they ask something not in inventory, so a milder option can be found. Middle ground, no?
BUT, as for a magician revealing the trick, explaining a market strategy compromises its success.
As a result the post became worthless after the explanation, not the proposal itself.

In my opinion your suggestion to stragle was not funny at all. Why should that have been a joke at all? That topic is considered serious for a lot of people.
You can already suggest stuff to customers if you don't want or can't sell something to them. You can also send the customer out without selling something. I find the way this is implemented far better than reality because in reality a customer wanting specifically product a would walk out the door if they can't find it in your shop

If in real life I enter a shop selling high quality clothes and specific brands, the same as high tier/grade in the game, and I ask if they have something of a lower quality or a cheaper brand forming a queue at the checkout so long that other customers can't even come inside the shop... How do you think the shopkeeper will react if they keep coming over and over?
As there is the option to say "instead of the hoodie made with body hair, would you like to try this astronaut suit?" and for sure needs lot of energies to convince someone to buy it, is also a lot less common to imagine someone asking a pizza in a sushi restaurant 🤷🏻
So, if we want to be realistic, a shop owner watching his shop getting crowded by people asking for random stuff while other customers find impossible even to enter for lack of space... sooner or later will lose patience.

I don't feel like devs will take your suggestion as serious inspiration, if you are being provacative and make jokes like that but that is also just my opinion... But sure is your choice to act however you like (within Server rules).
