So I would classify this guy as a wannabe tank who thinks he's an attacker. But he is very useful for me at this stage (level 57) and always the default pick over my two Berserkers. I have my Roland skill to select for him and now that he has all four skills, I'd like to get some input.

I'm tempted to remove sturdy and swap it for extra plating or impervious to keep it in the same family.

But according to the guide, cleave is a worse skill. I would hate to lose his attack from cleave because it has proven pretty useful so I'd be tempted to choose perfect form if I replace cleave.

Am I thinking about this right? What am I missing? I like this guy and don't want to mess the free skill choice up. Like I said, my two Berserkers got a little unlucky on their skill draws so this will be my top warrior for a while.

His equipment screen if it matters.

Ok, so first things first, if you want to be an attacker, you need a weapon master skill. Full stop.
Weapon master skills multiply your attack before any attack percent skills are considered.
So right now, your offensive potential is severely limited.

The good news is you already have two highly desirable skills in Flame Brand and Battering Blows.
While Perfect Form would be amazing here, a weapon master skill would be even better.
If you want to use Roland to put Warlord in S1 and keep Sturdy in S4, this hero would become an extremely reliable workhorse and could theoretically last forever.
You’ll have nice HP, decent defense, and enough attack to capitalize on the innate ability.
With decent gear, this hero should have little (if any) issue handling any content in the game.

That said, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that you have the option of rolling S1 into any weapon master skill and save Roland for later. I wouldn’t worry about losing Cleve. The atk% is rather low and the flat HP isn’t going to make much of a difference in the grand scheme of the game.
Trust me when I say there are multiple skills that would be better in S1 here.
Sure with a bronze weapon master skill, your attack won’t be as good, but it will work well enough for your level and you’ll still have the option to change things later once you have the resources to spare.

Thank you very much for the great breakdown. I do use that guide quite a bit and it really helped me in creating a fantastic Warlock who, along with this guy, really anchor me in my toughest battles (ie defeating the t8 boss in lost city of gold today for the first time). That being said, I haven't looked that carefully through the sample builds so I will read through that carefully before doing anything here.

Regarding this guy specifically, I do have a lot of the bronze reroll dice for slot 1 so you're thinking rolling until I get a weapon skill would be ideal for now and save Roland for later so he can theoretically become or stay relevant for the late game?

If you have the S1 dice, then I would use them. In theory, it shouldn’t be too difficult to land on a bronze weapon master skill.
Most people would recommend saving Roland until you can take a great hero and upgrade it into a spectacular hero.

Awesome! That's super helpful. And would bow master be ideal? I don't seem to have much luck getting big damage with swords or spears. Or is it a beggars can't be choosers situation and any of them can be useful with a little focus?

Bow Master would be great here.
But all Weapon Master skills would help a lot here. You can stop on the first one you get.

Great. Thanks again! I'll give it a go when he finishes this quest.
