In the start just keep getting more of the highest tier heroes you can balancing each of the three types with a slight lean away from reds and into blue/greens don't worry about more until lvl 53 when you get you 6th tier heores. Then you can work on getting a mix of heroes with element coverage
Critical note:
DO NOT USE YOUR GEMS TO HIRE HIGHER TIER HEROES.
Otherwise, yeah. Unlock new slots with gold as soon as they open up and hire them as you can. You typically don't need to worry about them at all until around Merchant level 40ish or so. Until you hit your first major wall (usually Chronos Ruins), "is a body" and "has equipment in all slots" is usually enough to clear whatever you want.
The guide suggested sorcerers and wanderers until you hit level 53 so I've been trying to focus on that and even retired a thief and mage to get one more of each. I did get one Ranger too and luckily he got excellent skills so he's proven useful as well.
Honestly even if they DON'T have good skills it's worth hanging onto most of your heroes pre-53.
If you've hit that first wall where "is a body" and "has equipment in all slots" isn't quite cutting it any longer, then my go-to recommendation is to get heroes who can answer “yes” to the question “Do I have two skills that compliment my role?” can stick around for a bit longer. Even if they’re weak options like
,
,
, or
, simply having skills that allow the hero do their job make a big difference.
- For Fighters, you’re looking for two skills with Defense, HP, or Evasion. These guys are your tanks so you want them to be able to take a punch.
- Rogues and Spellcasters are your primary attacking classes. You want two skills with Attack, Crit stats, or weapon skills. Rogues specifically also want Evasion.
This (and getting the T4s) is recommended because heroes like this are generally super easy to get your hands on. It typically doesn't take much investment and they last you a while, which makes them fantastic heroes during this transitional period.
It's OK to hire heroes who won't last forever. As long as they help you move forward, that's enough.
That's great information. Thank you, Archon.
