Wands are not advertised as being 25% extra exp (though they are some of the highest xp items in the game, simply by nature of them being a premium line).
I believe you may be misunderstanding Evelyn's worker benefit. By owning her, you gain 25% increased merchant exp for all shop sales, regardless of item type.
