Okay here we go... In the 1980's the Tomcats was at the top of it's game. It was the premier Fleet Defense fighter. Somewhat begrudgingly it also took on the roll of fleet recon platform. Dropping bombs was for the other guys. As far as the Tomcats community was concerned dropping bombs was for the other guys. The A-12 bomber was on the horizon and the NATF was right beyond that. Then the unthinkable happened. The cold war ended and the Tomcats community went from the Defenders of the Fleet to we need to diversify quick. Unfortunately for them the Hornets had already jumped into the we do everything role. Add to this the Tailhook controversy and how well the Hornets did in the Gulf War and the Tomcats community was feeling the pressure. But they recovered quick and embraced the air to ground roll. The had a choice between getting AMRAAM or getting a targeting pod. They wisely went with the targeting pod.
Now at this same time Cheney (Sec Def) was in a grudge match with the Senator from New York. Grumman was in New York. He repeatedly cut the Tomcats and the Intruder from the budget requests to fund the A-12 and NATF. He also ordered the production lines closed at Grumman. He didn't want those pesky Intrudera and Tomcats to cut into the finding for his future planes. Unfortunately I both the A-12 and the NATF were cancelled. Grumman had a number of contingency plans for very advanced Tomcats ready to go but the Tomcat was still learning to bomb while the Hornet community was great at it. In the end the powers that be decided that a new hornet would be the better way to go. Buy the time the Tomcat community got the whole Bombcat thing down it was simply too late. The Super Horent was the future. The Tomcat production line was long closed and spare parts were becoming harder to find. The Tomcats went out at the top of there game. During their last cruises they were the naval strike fighter of choice but it was ultimately too little too late.

The -50% to shell penetration decrease with distance means the shell has great pen over further distance.

oof but it suffers from slow traverse and a very slow reload process, not to mention you have to actually hit the target. So getting bum rushed by infantry or faster armored units was pretty normal unless you hid well or had infantry/armored support. So good luck trying to hide a 380mm blast.
