#Batuu Book Club Discussion: Outbound Flight

I’m still a few pages short of reaching chapter 8 myself. 😬
But I’d still like to attend.
Is the meeting just a text chat or also a voice chat?
Also what time this evening?
…never mind I just saw you wrote 2 hours 25 minutes ago.
So 8 PM EST
I’m ready for Book (Thrawn) Club!
Should we decrease the chapters then? Like 1-9, 10-18/19- to the end?
The meeting is voice chat
Do we go to the meetup room, or wait for @patent dock to start the meetup?
We are in the book club voice already!
I’m looking in #1207758228474302504 and I don’t see a voice chat room
I’m missing something
@patent dock @cold pelican I tried searching for ‘book club voice channel’ and nothing is coming up.
Do I need some kind of invite?
It says “this link is to a channel or server you have no access to”
Hmmm. Do you have the book club role?
Okay, I have adjusted the channel settings so now everyone should be able to see the voice chat without having the book club role. The role should just be needed if you want reminder pings!
This hopefully should also mean everyone can see the server event for the next meeting.
I actually stopped listening because I can’t stand him. I’ll see about trying again after I finish this witch book I just got from cloudlibrary.
Aaand I won’t be able to attend the session on May 19th.
Family stuff.
But everyone else, please have fun talking about Thrawn and also the jerk dumpster fire that is Jorus.
Again why don't the Jedi seem to have any sort of Internal Affairs or Inspector General office?
Like C'baoth is so bad at persuasion and negotiation I can only assume he has been ||mind tricking/threatening people to get his reputation as a mediator for his whole career. His method of running rampshod over people will only work continuously when he in a position of power. That's easy when dealing with civilians or leaders who are desperate but that couldn't have been the case for his whole career. ||
It does make me wonder if he used to be much less of a jerk and only got his big boomer mentality later in his career
I think that's suppose to be the implication, and occasionally the jerk has a point (by accident), but I would've have liked for there to be some remnant of charisma.
That would certainly make the book easier to read without wanting to throw it across the room!
It would also reinforce why Palpatine went to such lengths|| to get rid of him. If he had actually had the charisma to get the Jedi to go along with some of his more unorthodox ideas, combined with his battle meditation he would have actually been a problem. I think that's what we are suppose to think anyways, but with his current attitude I'm not convinced he would have been able to sway much of the Order for long.|| I sympathize with the urge to throw the book at a wall b/c of C'baoth, but alas I'm listening to it on my phone.
||Maybe not sway much of the Order, and maybe not for very long. But I assume Palpatine didn’t want Jorus to have even the smallest amount of backing or success with his offshoot supremacist philosophy in the Jedi Order.||
||For Palpatine, this whole thing was between the Sith and the Jedi. He didn’t want Jorus’ jerk brand of fallen Jedi beliefs taking attention away from his thing.||
||Lol imagine Palpatine and Yoda fighting in the Senate Chamber in RoTS, and then Jorus runs in yelling and forcibly inserts himself into the fight to make it a three-way lightsaber duel.||
||Palpatine would hate that. 😂||
That would be hilarious
Alright. I’m back on Outbound Flight. I’ll channel my annoyance at C’baoth into pulling weeds.
I now have this image of ||the bare-chested, flashlight fingered|| C'baoth ||from the old Heir to the Empire cover|| busting into the Senate just in time to get crushed by one of the Senator's pods.
I'm confused as to why C'baoth always calls ||Lorana "Jedi Jinzler" and Anakin "Master Skywalker" he's always very precise with titles so Padawan would be more appropriate?|| It just jumps out at me every time he says it.
Sexism? And the fact that he ||clearly respects Anakin more than Lorana||
I'll agree that he respects ||Anakin, for his strength in the Force, more but he strikes me as equal opportunity in his distain. Like amount of personhood directly correlates to force strength|| I might just be taking too narrow a view of it.
I definitely think it's the latter more than the former. But we don't really see him interacting with other women so kind of hard to judge.
Are we reading Mist Encounter as well? (It is partof my edition of Outbound Flight)
We can (I did) but it's not in every edition
I just hit it in my audiobook!
I forgot exactly how much Thrawn 2017 pulls from that story lol
Hello, new to the book club but I just finished the book this morning! First venture into the Thrawn book world and looking forward to reading more of it
Yay, welcome!
Are you going to join the discussion tonight?
OMG. Yes it does.
Definitely! I’m looking forward to it!
Are we going to decide on a new book tonight or has one already been picked out?
We'll decide tonight!
There's a chance I'm going to be a few minutes late. Currently stuck in traffic on the way home.
