Here's the link, spoilering b/c of the Acolyte stuff (none of the merch itself has spoilers I don't think): ||https://www.etsy.com/shop/YourWeirdAuntShop||
I have a huge THR list on Etsy, just need to spread out my spending so I don’t get cutoff. 😂
mood
I’m definitely already following the store 🤣
There's so many more books than I thought there were.
But reading 😵 I do want to read the Ronin one eventually
Have you tried/do you like audiobooks?
I squeeze in so much more reading because of audio
I've tried, but it hasn't worked as well for me.
Podcasts don't either unless I'm watching the video version of it.
My goal is to get a hard copy of it one day
That's fair. They don't work for everyone!
Ronin is seriously so good, though
And it's out in paperback now so it's a little cheaper
easily one of my top 5 Star Wars novels
This is why I think they should do something based directly on the books, give faces to the names
Show starlight in live action
Weave all the various plot threads in all the various books into a movie that’s easier for people to digest
He's my favorite character right now. I read the comic and now I need more.
I don't know why Cloud Library keeps making my holds disappear for A Court of Thorns and Roses.
It'll go from 3mos to 13 days to 3mos. And it has done that multiple times.
I just want to know if I'll like the writing style.
Maybe if I try the last book in the series, I'll get to read a single frikkin page of this series before deciding whether or not to spend my money on it.
Does your library have Hoopla? The first couple ACOTAR audiobooks are available that way.
I will look!
Thank you for looking for me. ❤️
Hmm my city doesn't but the city next to ours does.
Tbf I didn't look specifically; I just know they're on there. Though I am more than happy to check Hoopla for stuff like that.
Finished Path of Vengeance the other night, debating on my next choice. I have: Tales of Light and Life, A Test of Courage, Temptation of the Force, The Eye of Darkness, and finally the next club book, Darth Plagueis
Nice. I'm at a standstill after finishing a series. I just know nothing will fill that hole.
Tales of Light and Life
I was leaning towards that since it’s short
Also, I need Kevmo’s lightsaber 😂 I picture it looking like the PD Savi
I have yet to read Death Troopers but I want to
If you've ordered a special edition from Inkstone Books, be sure to check your email for the preorder link for Mace Windu: The Glass Abyss!
General sales open up on September 10
Ooh I read Darth Plagueis earlier this year, it was a good read! Currently reading Star Wars: A New Dawn
I love A New Dawn!
Just finished it last night, it was amazing! I need more like this haha
Welp I just put on Temptation of the Force to quell my dragon book hangover.
Time for ||NUT BUNS!||
Finishing The Battle of the Labyrinth and really not liking Annabeth right now.
Nico and Rachel, however, are perfect.
And can do no wrong.
This finally puts me at having read read 11 books out of my 12 goal this year. I'm sure both my eyes and hubs will be happy when I'm done.
Marchion Ro’s existence boils my blood and not in a fun way. 🤬
Can totally relate
I said that when he was just talking and I forgot he ||feeds a lothcat to the plague/blight right off the quacking bat!|| I’m considering just skipping chapters that aren’t Avar & Elzar.
That was extremely disturbing!
I watched a review video of the book and they were saying that ||there was not much about him|| in this book. I think there was plenty. I think what it was there ||was enough information about his character.||
Absolutely. He may not have been always present but his scenes were very impactful.
Did that reviewer just not read the book lmao
someone should make a High Republic hottness alignment chart. Marchion would def be the chaotic evil one
I still need to start Beware the Nameless. I'm trying to finish my library book first but it's so hard to wait!
If I hadn't waited like 3 months for the library book I probably would have just put it back on hold
I need to find that video 😂
Im trying to finish phase 2 to continue
I just want to know the name so I can avoid them like the plague lol
I’ll look for it
I think it was these guys https://youtu.be/2eX1fzEnP8s?si=9AVRr9sd239iZmd-
Liam and Sanak review the latest book in The High Republic multimedia initiative, Temptation of the Force by Tessa Gratton. In this book, the Jedi and the Republic look to press their advantage against the Nihil after Avar Kriss and Avon Starros both found ways past the Storm Wall in The Eye of Darkness and Defy the Storm. Meanwhile, Elzar Mann ...
I mean in their defense, it's easy to get distracted by certain chapters and then to kind of zone out when Marchion shows up (though he is like, half-naked for like half the book)
lol
I know ||he was not the focus on this book, but he was present on it. And his development through it is terrifying to me.||
He was more ||passive in this book, which makes him more dangerous imo||.
Btw, I haven’t count the timing. Are we in spoiler territory still?
Don’t remember the dates.
Spoiler tagged it jic
Always nice to err on the side of caution
also, dammit @kind turret now I want to reread it too
Sadly it doesn’t seem to be pushing the dragon books out of my head. Like I picked up Iron Flame in Costco because I was googling for a particular quote for like 20min and I found it in the text in about 20sec. I’m getting the first book special sprayed edge paperback with a new bonus chapter next week but I want them to match so I’ll probably have to wait a year for the second.
god I'm such a sucker for a sprayed edge
subscribing to Illumicrate was my way to celebrate finally achieving PSLF and it's just. Hng. Give me all the pretty books!
I also bought a ticket for the Owl Crate quarterly sci-fi book subscription that starts next year
The new bonus chapter clinched it because I don’t want to wait to get my hot little hands on that. January 21st is soooo far away.
Fair.
pastes this meme on the books that chronologically come before it
The phase 2 adult novels were indeed so confusing, until now since I’ve read the YA books that had the actual plot/story
Me getting a few pages into Cataclysm without reading the Path books:
I love it when my kid shows excitement for books. You want two books? We'll buy two books.
I hope always to have the funds to never say no to kid getting books. Even though he already has six cabinets full.
adds to comic book list
There was also a surprise Audible original drop today and an announcement about the con exclusive Mace Windu book!
Sorry I don't have links for either.
I have no credits till November 😭
Screams
I've haven't read anything in two days! I usually read in bed at night.
Is Marvel Unlimited worth it to read all the Star Wars?
Yes
I may just subscribe then
Any recommendations as to where to start besides High Republic?
I think it depends what your main interests are. But generally speaking starting with the 2015 runs of Star Wars and Darth Vader can't steer you wrong
There's also the Kanan limited series and the Poe Dameron limited series from that general time period that are good!
👍
I think Kanan is only 12 issues? So not too bad of a read!
Poe is a bit longer, I think around like 30 or so issues?
After the 2015 Star Wars content, you can mix in Dr. Aphra.
Then read the Vader Down crossover.
Which is An Experience.
Also highly recommend The Rise of Kylo Ren mini-series as a "read anytime"
Vader Down actually happens in the middle of those runs!
I think MU should have a reading order for them
Yes, lol
That’s what I meant to say without wording it right. 😅
and then IIRC the Aphra run starts after Vader Down
but it's been a hot minute since I've read them so I don't recall exactly
Aren't they 6 months behind on issues, though?
Yeah, it (generally) takes 6 months for an issue to hit MU.
It winds up being about the equivalent as waiting for TPBs.
Not the best if you want to read every issue on release, but pretty great for the huge backlog of Legends and canon. And we're coming up on 10 years of canon comics next year, so there's no dearth of reading material
Close to finished with part 1 of the Plagueis book, almost ready, just need to set an alarm or something to remind me to show up for the discussion lol
I try to a reminder ping but I doubt I'll be able to tomorrow. I'll do one earlier in the day but won't be able to do the normal 1 hour reminder
Omg so I read The Trials of Apollo before The Heroes of Olympus. The first chapter is from ||Jason's|| PoV and I am in DISTRESS!
@kind turret I am blinking back tears. This was a devastating order in which to read these books. And there are five books!
I think I'll flip between HoO and Fourth Wing. Just to keep my mood in check.
😬 FW might not be the best at that the further you get. Well, maybe not until you get to Iron Flame.
Sad! I will not be able to join today. I’ll join next discussion. 😭
I just noticed! I will only be able to join the last one. HalcyCon will prevent it. 😭😭
Livestream from the con 😝
I won't be able to make today either as my life has been a bit nuts the last month and I'm still in the 1st chapter 🤷♀️
If I’m one of the few to be far enough along I don’t mind us pushing back a week so everyone that had to wait for their turn at the library can participate
I’ll be traveling next Sunday evening (technically my flight lands at 6 PM EST so I could make an 8 PM EST meeting, it would just be tight) but if most folks can’t make this session I am ok with meeting next Sunday and taking the risk of not being able to make it.
(I guess the perfect scenario would be pushing it out two weeks, but whatever works for the most people is best).
I'm just catching up. I'll jump on chat and we can go from there?
We are going to push the meeting back 1 week to the 29th at 8 pm!
I'll update the schedule in a bit.
@velvet hatch, this is who I see for that story of yours about the Plagueis book lol
🤣🤣🤣
This is also an acceptable ||fake geneticist||.
I forget though, wasn’t there some speculation in the acolyte chat that the planet ||Qimir (and Plagueis) were on in the show was the one from the opening of the book? Baldemnic or something like that||
I was definitely wondering that while reading.
That was indeed the speculation, because ||Bal’demnic has cortosis, and also ocean and rocky beaches. Like the Unknown Planet in Acolyte.||
oh wow, I've wanted to join book club for a while now but always am reading other books and busy, but I started Plagueis by chance so I might just have to join next week!
Do it
I thought so, ||just no naked-porgs in the book 😝 but also mildly morbid since Tenebrous’ body would still be entombed somewhere in the cortosis mine||
THR comic book happened! I also said I was only going to get thr comics and they had a new Labyrinth series. 😹
Oh man I didn't see the Labyrinth one
I guess you need to go back. 😁
Question? Starting Plagueis today. Until what chapter is Part 1?
I can only see chapters on Libby.
@wanton oasis this is where it becomes part two for my copy:
Now I’m wondering if it’s the same. 🙈
I’ll just go through as much as I can.
It may say which part it is on the audio.
Thank you!
nice I am already done with Part 1
My Nook copy says part 1 ends at chapter 12/page 158ish. Page 159 is “Part 2” page then 160 is the opening of chapter 13
Sorry forgot to tag, @wanton oasis
Its been easy to read, I’m just starting part 3 (chapter 22, so Part 2 is chapters 13-21)
So my flight (which was going to get me home about 30-40 minutes before book club) just had to make an emergency landing due to a fuel line leak.
I am now safe on the ground in Newark NJ, but even if they get everything fixed and get us back up in a timely manner it is unlikely I will be able to make it to book club tonight.
But you all should enjoy yourselves and have fun. 👍
Sry about your tavel problems, but I'm glad the plane landed safely
I have a lot of Jersey pride but Newark kinda sucks. Sorry you're there.
Safe remainder of your travels Alexis! I just found out I have to go into work while I’m sitting in the car in my house lounging clothes with unabridged hair and flip flops. 😝
Unabridged hair. You are so cool.
Glad you are safely on the ground!
I’m baffled as to where that came from and what word I originally typed. Probably unbrushed. 🤣🤣🤣
Tears of the Nameless was a fantastic addition to THR
So my serious thought on part 1 of the Plagueis book: || Tenebrous’ true crime was choosing names for his apprentices lol. He needed a better theme, first it was Plague, then Venom, what would his next apprentice have been? Darth Poisonus? 😝|| and my silly thought: ||I can’t think of Plagueis’ first name now without thinking “leggo my Hego” lol||
Probably just gonna be stuff from visual media
I’m still going to riot 😂
New Percy Jackson book came out a couple weeks ago. But I'm still slogging through the first book of HoO.
I just realized I never followed up on this; but I'm hoping you did make it home safely!
I did.
I got stuck in New Jersey for like four hours and didn’t get home until after midnight, but I made it.
…And now I’ve got the flu.
I'm glad you did make it home even if the trip was stressful at the end.
Me too
Home is nice
I know right
This week is not my favorite. 😅
The flu really does suck. I hope you are at least able to take some time off work and rest
…ish
My supervisor signed off on me working from home the rest of the week, and if I do get worse I just have to tell them and I can arrange PTO.
But I don’t want to do PTO because currently I’ve got a lot of things going on that I don’t want to pass off to other people.
I know those feels and how it can sometimes be more of a pain to take time off
oh no, spaghetti-o's
Yep.
Because if other people do them wrong then I have to clean them up later.
Probably why ||Plageuis|| was so hands on with his own projects. 😂
Updated THR chronological book list: https://www.starwars.com/news/every-star-wars-the-high-republic-book-and-comic-series
Nice, I just finished Plagueis so that helps pick my next book. I have A Test of Courage, The Eye of Darkness and Temptation of the Force to read still. I think I’m going with the Vernestra story, A Test of Courage
Vital hurricane prep: a fully charged e-reader with plenty of books downloaded
That’s why I like having my nook app, I still have physical copies of a lot of my favorite books, but they’re nice hard cover, sometimes special editions that I’d be nervous to have out during a hurricane. I’d have them locked in a waterproof tub
I went to the comic book shop to get reading material. 😂
My hurricane reads! Prepping a couple extra on my kindle as well
Paper books are a good idea.
Dark Disciple is one of my favs
same!
It's the only new SW book I bought.
The rest I've been lucky enough to borrow from my library.
They had Dark Disciple too. But after reading it, I needed to own it.
I equally love Lost Stars but for now it would be a hurtful reminder of the person who recommended it (not here).
New Quinlan is still just a bit too different from original Quinlan for me to really get behind any of his canon appearances. Dark Disciple would have been a fantastic book if they'd used anyone other than Quinlan, imho.
And the lack of Villie is just a crime
Awesome! I'm about halfway through Dark Disciple right now!
Picked up some new art prints last weekend!
They’re beautiful
I had to have them!
Also if BB-8 is reading to the porgs that is hilarious
Because he would be reading to them in beeps and boops.
But it’s not like they’d understand English/Basic either. 😅
Artist is Charles Urbach in case you can't see the name
I see the whole crowd trying to decipher what BB8 is pointing at, and the twist is, they’re reading TVKnight’s recipe for porg 😝
Those are some nice art pieces though
OMG the porgs 🥹
Yes please.
It’s nice to see them get some love but I’m not sure it’s really Yord without Charlie Bennett
OMG so much good stuff on that list
Not really a fan of the glass abyss
I just learned that my local library, which has a grand total of 9 Star Wars novels available for checkout, is hosting a Star Wars Novel Celebration at 1 PM today. That number is pathetic! How can they host a celebration about Star Wars novels with only NINE of them in their catalog?
That’s a shame, maybe give them a list of ones you’d like to see them have?
There could be a few things going on, but I'd bet they're hosting an event because Lucasfilm provides affordable materials for these things for Star Wars Reads (which used to be a single day but is now a whole month)
Second, there could be any number of reasons they only have 9 SW books. Have you checked their digital resources? A lot of genre readers read digitally, and they might be focusing their collection money there.
It could be that there's very little demand for adult SW books there. It could be a theft issue (certain books are more prone to being stolen than others).
Maybe one of the librarians is hoping to grow the collection by showing their collection development person there really is an interest by hosting this event.
Kylo Ren is back to finish what his grandfather started
just revealed: Marvel’s Star Wars: Legacy of Vader get your first look at the cover and interior art now
https://t.co/w8bCj8l7Zs
Marvel: We need another Vader comic.
Writers: We've pretty much covered every possible inch of space with Vader.
Marvel: Okay, fine. Kylo Ren comic but call it Vader.
the 2015 Vader comic is good though yes?
oh yeah it's great
and the 2017 one is spectacular.
I have not read the 2020 one yet but I've heard it's uneven.
Especially with some of the crossovers.
they packed A LOT between ESB and ROTJ. Maybe a little too much.
There's probably a teeny tiny bit of space for more Vader stories pre-ANH but the 2017 Vader run covers most of the immediate post-ROTS era and sets up ANH Vader so well I don't think we really need to further explore that very limited period.
so, read both 2015 and 2017 or just 2017?
Moar Aphra pls.
A chaotic neutral, somewhat unhinged Indiana Jones seems like it would make for a good live action project too. Don't make it deep, don't get too fancy. Just wacky intergalactic shenanigans.
I'll take my check now, Ms. Kennedy, you're welcome.
We can only hope
Yes
I really need to read that too tbh, I love the movie
I treated myself to comics on my injection day Tuesday
Excellent!
Oh shoot, forgot about book club again 🤦♂️
There's a simple poll about November book club in the book club thread: #1262179609638867075 message
Go make Palp proud
Picked up the Series Finale of Darth Vader today. After 8 years, it's done and I have them all. Bittersweet feeling right now.
I published my first book in 2018 - Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy. In the years since, many of you have asked if there would be an updated edition with the new characters we've met in the books, sequel trilogy, and Disney+ series. And guess what? Here it is!
Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy Updated and Expanded will be out on April 29, 2025 with...
It’s here @regal sedge 🥹 THR book
Oooh.
You gotta see Elzar’s hilt 😱
I can spoiler tag it
Elzar Stann hilt pic from the Lightsaber Encyclopedia. Don’t look if you don’t want to be spoiled.
Ohhhh interesting.
YES
They really just said "uhhhh make it ||Vader|| lololololol"
Wow, that is surprisingly ||Vader-esque||
I really need to get my copy of that book, plus that bestiary book
Copy of the saber book ordered! I can’t wait for it to be a possible Christmas gift lol
Closest I can get to saber buying at the moment 🤦♂️
Even with as many lightsaber components as Huyang has, you can't get infinite combinations. They're bound to repeat or get similar results eventually.
Oh. I didn't think of that.
Like Avar’s is the one on the right of the cover with the green blade
Their robes were different as well. I noticed that in The Acolyte.
And Stellan’s is fairly ornate too, those two are his best friends
I wonder if Huyang just ran out of those fancy parts before The Phantom Menace and never got them restocked. 😆
lol maybe
Ooooh not what I originally had in mind, but ||very befitting from a narrative perspective:||
Another example that comes to mind was Master Mirro Lox’s hilt
The book is incredible! The other designs are so unique and beautiful. Love them!
Yes, not what I was expecting either.
Nice to hear, I can’t wait! Mine should arrive Thursday
Let me know how you like it. I saw wish we get more of those hilts. The designs are wonderful.
Will do! It’s half the reason I was rooting so hard for Acolyte, those sabers as legacies would have been a nice segue into making these ones
Burry is incredible. Love it so much.
There's a canon reason hilts are no longer fancy like that by the time of Acolyte.
It's explained in Shadows of Starlight
I figured. I was just joking.
Just got it! Thumbing through now and my first thought is ||omg another Wookiee Jedi I missed somehow, Arkoff||
YES
Also, they all have great taste on hilts
I love the ||minecraft-esque blockyness||
I wish I can have at least 90% of all the hilts in the book
Oooh a ||curved hilt that ends in wood, Barnabas Vim||
Is it possible to drown in lightsabers.
Omg I love ||that they did fold out pages to give an idea of how huge Burry’s saber is||
May I see a photo of that?
It’s an honorable death.
Each page I flip adds another legacy I want lol
||Oh yes. Very good for large Wookiee paws.||
Omg they have ||Kai||
||That one reminded me of an old pistol my grandfather had and now is in my daughter’s possession. ||
Seriously? Didn't expect that.
It’s ||Yoda’s training saber he gives Kai in the show||
I told you it’s an incredible book. A most have.
Ooooooh Keeve Trennis, I absolutely need ||a green bladed staff that can separate into dual sabers||
That raised so many questions. ||Where are his partners??? Does it mean he will appear in books or comics? ||
Maybe this is why. #1208864249401581578 message
Wow ||Kevmo Zink’s is way more beautiful than I imagined||
Probably
But it is fun to guess
Yes! Didn’t expect it.
Now I want to go look at it again 😂
It's fun to see the differences between how you envision an object based on a description in a book and how it actually turns out to look.
Woah, Obratuk Glii
Especially when it’s way better
Hell yes!!! 😻
Must have Porter Engle’s…
I was telling my husband that if I was a ||dual saber user, I wanted them to be different. Because of my adhd, that would help to pick them up quicker. Then I saw Glii’s page. So many possibilities! ||
||Both phases?!!!||
I like his ||younger self one with the knuckle guard, but his older self with the crossguard is nice too||
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Shadows_of_the_Empire_(soundtrack)
Have you heard this? It's a "soundtrack" based on a book, rather than music heard during a movie. It's meant to enhance your experience while reading the novel Shadows Of The Empire.
Well dang, I can’t say I’m not slightly disappointed by ||Silandra Sho’s, and that they didn’t do a fold out page for her shield||
Yes
I haven’t, but now I need to
I'm not sure if it's on streaming. I've heard it because my local library has the CD.
Dang, I really really hope they make some of these sabers
@wanton oasis Yes, it's on streaming.
I do feel a bit bad for ||Elzar and Indeera who basically got remixed Vader and Obi-wan lol||
I love the ||uniqueness of Ravna Abronsa, completely rectangular hilt rather than cylindrical||
Yes
Also that you can see how that affected ||Arkoff’s saber design since she was his master||
Dang, all these sales and whatnot better be cleaning up warehouse space for new HR legacies lol
I sort of want an ||Obratuk Glii LE, but not one that costs over $1k cause it has 5 hilts lol||
But ||he has some of the coolest looking hilts||
Odd/interesting that both ||Yoda and Stellan appear in the older book as well as this new one||
Hey everyone! My guest today is New York Times Best Selling Author Cavan Scott! Cavan has written for Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Transformers, Batman and more, and today he joins me to discuss his work on The High Republic and his comic Night of the Slashers. Hope you enjoy! #StarWars #TheHighRepublic #HighRepublic
You can follow me on ...
Now that I notice, the cover ||has two of my favorite of the HR sabers, Porter’s younger self saber and Avar’s. But I’d be better served listing the ones I’m more meh about than the ones I want legacies of cause that list would be ALL OF THEM lol||
I want a legacy set of Avar and Elzar. That’s #1 on my list.
We can only hope
LE’s are all the rage it seems, so maybe
Forgot to say, but @glossy breach, you’ll love this latest saber book, ||lots of crossguard sabers||
I was hoping there would be, I'll have to pick this up some time soon
Definitely do, there’s so many cool HR sabers
I just realised, it mentions Acolyte in the intro pages, but no Acolyte hilts appear in the book 😢
I love that saber thigh holsters seem to be sort of popular for the HR Jedi, I need to find something like that cause then weight like for Savi wouldn’t be as much an issue
im hoping we get more HR merch at SWGE, i would love to have that holster as well as the tunic with the matching belt that usually matches with thier saber
Couldn’t sleep last night and finished Eye of Darkness, onto Temptation of the Force!
||Nut Bun|| Time!!
Yesssssssss I am so hyped for you
I take it Temptation is a good one?
Very much so
Great, I really enjoyed Eye of Darkness
Elzar Mann continues to Go Through It
I can’t for your reaction
First page and I’m hooked, my favorite character ||isn’t dead||
I knew that a few weeks before the book came out and it's honestly the most difficult secret I've ever had to keep.
I bet, I ||wrote him off as dead, but now it seems like he might be on a mission to assassinate Marchion whatever the cost. With Gungi legacy now a thing, Porter’s young self saber is now top of my list||
Me showing saber chat some of the new hilts
My evil plan to get more people to buy the HR saber book going swimmingly 😝
I’m realising as I read temptation that I missed a book/Vern story, defy the storm
Tearing through Temptation so I got that to go back and read, then the next one after Temptation, Tears of the Nameless
I’m still on tenterhooks waiting for whatever you all are waiting for my reaction to lol
So uh, did I really just read ||a sex scene between Avar and Elzar? Jedi getting nasty? lol||
As far as Jedi in general, it wasn’t the first time and it won’t be the last.
Well I mean more like ||two that are actively serving Jedi, not some person a Jedi fell in love with. Kinda like dating a coworker lol||
Also, ||I think Elzar’s thoughts revealed an insight that they might just…not teach sex ed in Jedi school lol||
Jedi can get nasty as long as they don't get attached
They were never explicitly stated as celibate
True, I’ve just always thought of Jedi as space monks/nuns
Fair. They are but i don't think all monks are celibate either
Also true, just was a bit jarring lol, like suddenly ||Avar and Elzar are bumping uglies||
You were kind of warned though.
By the ||nut buns||.
The ||nut buns|| foretold what was to come.
Didn’t think that ||nut buns|| would be literal 🤣
That’s the narrative twist I guess. 😂
Just finished Temptation, loved it
Also by several scenes in Light of the Jedi, The Rising Storm, The Fallen Star, and Eye of Darkness
Hahaha! The most shocking thing to me was ||Yoda’s reaction to their relationship||. 😂
Yes! Temptation was the payoff and I was so happy we ||were not left hanging||.
Dang! I kinda want to read it again.
I’m trying to finish phase 2 😭
lol yeah I ||was surprised he was so chill about it, like “go get a piece, you shall” 😝|| and now I’m thinking of going back to read the Vern/Avon book that I accidentally skipped.
I’m not sure I agree (big Temptation spoilers) ||we weren’t left hanging, maybe about if they were gonna hook up lol, but it certainly seems up in the air if Ro’s plan to use the blight on Coruscant will work or who will jump on the grenade 😢||
I mean, left hanging on ||their relationship||.
Oh yeah, they || definitely getting it on||
Yeah, I mean, it's the second book in a trilogy so they obviously aren't going to wrap up every narrative thread.
Ah the release order has been so odd I’ve not noticed it was part of a trilogy
My only real burning question is: ||how is Vernestra not as invested, or even slightly invested, in deposing General Viess as Porter? I know he’s got a big beef with Viess for good reason, but Viess is a traitor to all Mirialan’s. You’d think Vernestra would have some feels one way or another on the general committing her home planet to nihil rule||
I mean ||I know Jedi, no attachments, etc, but still not even a “Viess sucks” from Vern||
@wanton oasis I just realised since Gungi is so nicely done, that would mean they could pull off a few from the new saber book, like ||Burry, Barnabas Vim (the one like a pirate pistol) and Torban Buck||
I so wish they do
Insight Editions has a big sale right now that includes the THR Lightsaber book, the new Bestiary, and many other Star Wars reference titles!
Also lots of non-SW titles as well.
Happy Tempest Breaker Release Day to all who celebrate!
Woohoo!
was googling Avar for art reference... WHAT DO YOU MEAN PUBLIC FIGURE GOOGLE???
Is she REAL???
Maybe she’s a Public Figure because Star Wars is for everyone.
Including the public.
True
Welp I couldn’t sleep and finished Defy the Storm last night. I can’t help but like the Vern/Avon stories better than Elzar/Avar, but Bell/Burry are my favorite duo
On to Tears of the Nameless
I want to see
who can spot the error @velvet hatch and anyone else in the Porg Server do not help them
75 meters tall and weighing 4 kg seems hard to do
That or it would be enough to feed four Wookiee sized sentients lol
Ardis where are you finding these mythical nunas
I remember these from Star Wars Galaxies - they were definitely closer to 75cm rather than 75m.
Aren’t they what Jabba casually pushes one off the ledge while watching the pod race in Phantom Menace?
A funny Scene :)
Like and I´ll upload more great Scenes!

Have Fun ^^
Look at the Heir to the Empire figure set we’re getting!!! At the risk of posting in the wrong channel, I figure book ppl might be the main ones interested.
I wish they were doing that version of Thrawn as a Black Series figure 😔
Wtb canon Joruus
fits the wackiness of the character
If anyone should have gotten a wacky “somehow he returned” through cloning, it should have been him and not Palpatine
This bad boy is up for general preorder from Goldsboro now: https://goldsborobooks.com/products/star-wars-the-mask-of-fear
Before the Rebellion, the Empire reigns, in book one of a trilogy told through the eyes of Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, and Saw Gerrera – for fans of Andor."In order to ensure the security and continuing stability, the Republic will be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire! For a safe and secure society!"With one spee
Inkstone is doing one as well but it's still on "secret" preorder for people who have purchased SW books from them previously
Inkstone does have the Bestiary with a signed bookplate, if you're willing to pay the GBP 15 shipping fee: https://inkstonebooks.com/product/sw-bestiary-vol-1/
Excited for this one - the reviews of the ARCs have been very good
So after I finish Tears of the Nameless is there anything beyond that yet?
It’s been so good I’ve had a hard time putting it down, just noticed I’m almost 90% finished with it
Tempest Breaker - the audio drama
I just was looking at the Reddit list of stuff and saw that one, I guess I’ll have to check it out. May go back and re-read phase one with more of the YA books to better grasp what came before phase 3
this is awesome and a great price
Tears of the Nameless spoilers/legacy saber speculation: ||I absolutely loved that Raeth now has Silandra Sho’s shield, and the fact that Cohmac says he got it on Batuu really really makes me hope they make a full sized version of the starliner training shield||
Went back to Into The Dark, it’s nice getting the backstory for characters not heavily featured in the other books. But, I wonder about one: ||Geode, is he just like…a joke? I looked up his image and he’s a block of stone, and no one seems to hear him talk. Is there something deeper I’m missing? lol from his description in other books I always pictured him like the Korg guy from the marvel movies||
How DARE you call Geode a joke
Vintians don't work the same way humans or other humanoid species do
I just like, don’t get how he does stuff. Is he pushing buttons and whatnot with the force to navigate? And projecting his thoughts/voice into people’s heads?
Just feels like every time he’s mentioned it’s sort of the butt of a joke, “choosing” not to speak or “sharing glances”
We don't know exactly how he operates the nav computer on the Vessel but he does.
It's funny but I wouldn't say he's the butt of any jokes. No one in the book is making fun of him.
He's just a funny guy.
Feels like Leox having multiple personalities cause he’s high as a kite on spice
Like yeah, you can absolutely have conversations with a rock when you’re on LSD lol
Oh well lol, I’ll quit overthinking
Avon also talks to him and she isn't on spice.
Ah must have missed that, but he is treated more like a regular crewman in later books
Into the dark must be where these characters were introduced, I always wondered where they came from when reading one of the adult novels
At the time just accepted there were dozens of characters with extensive backgrounds I had no idea about that were suddenly important to the main story
Omg is the ||Wookiee baby that Raeth saves…grandpa Itchy?||
Nope, hopes dashed
Yes, Into the Dark is the second ever THR novel.
Yes. And on a related note, the frog-like creatures he keeps eating out of a fish bowl in Return Of The Jedi are actually Gorgs! I was surprised to learn that, seeing as how they look so different in Star Wars Resistance. I guess it's just the animation style.
I’m very excited for this series https://bsky.app/profile/darthinternous.bsky.social/post/3ldooarwjq22t
The next great #StarWars series begins in Feb #ReignoftheEmpire starts during the first year (the first weeks) of Imperial rule.
There are no rebels. There are no alliances. Only ordinary people trying to survive, and what happens when survival isn't enough?
If you love #Andor, you'll love this.
102
There are no rebels.
There are no alliances.
Only Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker and Ezra Bridger crying (edit: like babies).
And you will too
Cry, I mean
Because fascism is unpleasant.
Tbf they were babies
Yes, that’s why they are crying.
I should have specified that 😂
Well I’m glad you all encouraged me to read more than the adult novels, my favourites now in the HR so far have been ones about Vern and Raeth
For whatever reason I just couldn’t sleep last night and was up until like 4am. Finished Into the Dark and am already half done with Out of the Shadows
So I’m sad Acolyte didn’t play on the “Vern is a bad pilot” joke running in these books
Yeah, it would have been so interesting to see her character explored
the new star wars locations book coming in march says it has "Created in close collaboration with Lucasfilm, this book also contains the official map of the Star Wars galaxy, charting hundreds of planets from Ajan Kloss to Zygerria." does that mean it has the map in the actual pages or comes with a foldout map?
It's possible it's on fold out pages.
Based on the description, I doubt it's removable like the posters that come in the BN exclusive editions
But I'd bet money they make a promo poster with the map for the con circuit next year
There was a large foldable galaxy map in the Costco edition of Star Wars Timelines
i hope the 2nd volume of star wars bestiary finally has the sith warbeasts in it. the tukata sith hound still has almost no presence in canon
Zomg Mission to Disaster: ||Halcyon reference! Did any of the plot of this book of having the star cruiser tow Starlight make it into the experience or was it too late?||
Not really, the experience was between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, so that would’ve been old history. Most of the performers and cast members did their homework, so they might have been familiar with it if you asked them about it
Ah really I didn’t think it was around that long
Yeah, the sailing for the experience was the 275th anniversary voyage
So it’s a tad crazy to me how much Vern and Raeth are sidelined to “kid” books when they’re two of the most interesting characters
(To me at least)
I really need to read those. I’ve been sidelined with a bunch of other stuff lately.
I really don't think it's fair or accurate to say that young adult books are "kid" books.
And I also think that misses one of the big concepts of the High Republic: provide age-appropriate narrative content for all age groups.
saying the middle grade or young adult books are "sidelining" characters isn't really fair. those characters were created to be in books for those age groups. yes, they pop up in the adult novels as well, but consider this: they are so interesting and compelling because of that, not in spite of it
Well to be fair I put kid in quotes since the YA books don’t seem that much different than the supposedly adult ones. Other than maybe length
Like, I think more adult kind of stuff has been described in the Vern/Avon stories
And I say sidelining since it feels like some casual readers might skip over their books because of the label and they miss out on great stories and characters, cause I was one of them
the difference between ya and adult is primarily a marketing one, in all honesty
It seems, cause like, they have Deva ||eat someone|| like, that’s kind of adult
but we shouldn't deprive kids of books and stories because they're worth reading and adults might not pick them up--adults should just be less precious about what they're willing to read
But true I should have given them a chance at the go
I mean you aren't alone here. I've heard so many times over and over again that people didn't pick up the YA books because they aren't "adult", then did, and realized how good they are.
This isn't limited to Star Wars, though. There are amazing YA and middle grade books in every genre.
True, seems more a marketing failure than anything
Like, old adults can like them too lol
if you market to everyone you market to no one
it's hard enough to get people to read period
True
publishers don't have the marketing dollars they used to
Patience is a dying virtue and reading is something that takes it
and quite frankly I don't think marketing will solve the problem of adults being unwilling to read certain categories.
it's actually quite a complex issue that's wrapped up in societal norms, gender roles, socio-economic status, race, and more.
but the crux of it is that women and teen girls are the primary readers of YA fiction, and therefore large numbers of men view YA fiction as "girly" and won't read it.
publishers need to make money, so they market those books to the people most likely to read them.
I viewed it more as like, I don’t want to read Harvey boys Star Wars
But they’ve all been what I’d consider just…regular books
totally. for people of our generation I think it's easy to view YA like that, because that was the only kind of YA we had growing up
Maybe young characters but that’s not anything new
it's a very different category now, with so many more options
Yeah I grew up reading animorphs lol
the main thing is that the main characters are teenagers.
Yep, but like I identify so much with Raeth being a history book nerd
And I don’t think he’s in a “adult” book until phase 3, it’s nuts
a semi-common complaint I see about THR is how big/confusing it is. but I love that you can read only the adult, only the YA, only the MG, or only the comics and still get a complete story.
Yeah, there’s lots of “who the heck is this” but you can still get the gist of things
but if they put all the main characters from all three reader levels in the adult books it would be kind of insane
there are already a lot of characters to follow in the adult books; more would probably not help
😅
Yeah, just smacking myself in the head for discounting so many books that I skipped over and am now reading to fill in the blanks
There’s still so many from the saber book that only appear in the comics or manga’s. I’m not sure I’m ready to go there yet lol
well, look at this way: past you accidentally saved present you a little gift!
I like having a hardcover copy, so that’s why I’d only read the main books, but I don’t have shelf space for all of the HR books at this point, so I mainly have Barns and Noble’s nook e-books
I prefer print over digital as well, though I'm leaning more into digital lately for the same reasons.
I just dread the day they go under and I suddenly lose all my books
hopefully that doesn't happen. but if it does, i'd assume they'd have you roll everything over to like, Kobo
that's what happened when Sony killed its Reader
(rip little Sony Reader, you were the goat)
That’s why I stay with B&N, do my part in keeping them alive
I buy most of my SW books there still, since indie bookstores don't usually carry them.
I wish audiobook apps let you create playlists of your favorite chapters
from multiple books
That'd be neat for anthologies
I want to create character collections for various THR characters.
New book club book secured, just need to set a few dozen reminders for the actual meeting lol
I will do my best to ping you personally!
Great thanks, only problem I might have now is getting scheduled to work 🤦♂️ but fingers crossed I don’t
But you play one in Star Wars!
No no, you're confusing that with the multiple angsty Jedi who flirt with the dark side roles
listening to leia: princess of alderaan audiobook
really lovely so far, def gonna pick up a copy of it
I'm so ashamed to admit I haven't read that one yet 🙈
BOOK CARD REVOKED
I'll wipe my tears with one of my 7? copies of Light of the Jedi
I read that ? As another 7
And i was like
Wow
okay I guess I only have 6 physical copies and the 7th is a digital audiobook
which is a totally normal number of copies to have of the same book
All like, varied editions of the book?
I think the most copies of one book I have is Enders Game. I have it on nook, a paperback copy and an OSC signed hardcover copy
Yes, they are all different versions.
- Hardcover
- Barnes & Noble Exclusive Edition
- Goldsboro Exclusive Edition
- Out of Print Exclusive Edition
- Celebration 2022 Exclusive Edition
- Paperback
- Digital Audiobook
For The Rising Storm and The Fallen Star I think there are more, but I don't have the paperbacks of those.
Because there are all of the above, plus Target exclusives for both
They toned it down for Phase 2 so I only have 2 3 copies of Convergence and 3 4 of Cataclysm.
Nice, the only super fancy edition of a book I have is my red leather bound edition of Lord of the Rings
I do have a nice copy of Silmarillion too, but it’s not quite as fancy
I have a US first edition hardcover of the Sil, but it's not a first printing and the dust jacket is pretty beat up. But it's still really cool.
oh I saw that at BN last month and almost bought it 🙈
And that edition of hobbit too
I’ve got a regular 3-book box of the first three expanse books but there’s an edition that looks sooo fancy I’m super tempted
I swear I don't normally buy 7 copies of a single book I just have the maximum amount of High Republic brain rot and I couldn't help myself 😭
The 10th anniversary ones? I bought them, super worth it!
Yeah they aren’t expensive, I just don’t have shelf space for another copy of the hardcovers lol
tbf though I don't have the regular ones, just those.
that never stops me
It... should. But it does not.
I got the first 6 as holiday gifts so I didn’t specify the fancy editions lol
books are the best gifts
They’re what I usually ask for, not expensive, and I enjoy them. I’ve gotten weird looks from my extended family for being the one to steal books during our reunion Christmas holiday gift thing
I ask too but no one gets them for me anymore 😭
We do a weird thing where everyone brings a gift and then pull numbers for order of picks, and each gift can be “stolen” up to two times. Some gifts are popular and change hands a lot
I’m the weirdo that steals the books that family members looked dejected when they opened lol
Got these a year or two ago
And I never have to worry about someone taking my gift lol
Alcohol-based gifts change hands a lot in my family lol, I still remember one time someone brought a tequila bottle shaped like a rifle
blink
Before Yuengling expanded past the east coast us bringing some of that was very popular with our KC/STL based families
My bff was so excited when she could finally get Yuengling in Arkansas lmao
I grew up like an hour or so from the brewery
Yeah my family out there were excited too since before that they only had it when we had reunions
My spouse was born in the hospital there
and YET if you ask me if it's Pottsville or Pottstown, I can't tell you. I have never been able to keep them straight.
lol
who the heck names two towns within one hour of each the same damn thing?!
I'm pretty sure it's ville.
maybe.
Haven’t ever been there, but one year for Christmas my family was in Texas and we went to the Shiner brewery, it’s super cool
But anyways yeah they I think count on me relieving them of the boring book gift so they can try to get something more fun
Meanwhile I’m sitting there flipping through the Smithsonian book completely checked out of the gift exchange lol
If my immediate family had done gifts this Christmas I’d have asked for the Bestiary book
I’m a sucker for history books too, especially WW2 ones. This one’s been on my Amazon gift list but no one’s gotten it for me yet
Been on a SW book run, I think the last history books I read was Indifferent Stars Above: The Harrowing Saga of the Donner Party (very grim book understandably) and A Thousand May Fall: An Immigrant Regiment’s Civil War about German immigrants in Ohio who formed an entire regiment of mostly non-English speaking soldiers during the civil war
I do love a beefy history book
though recently I've been doing more deeply reported current events/issues books, ala Dopesick
Uhhg that reminds me, I tried to start a book called Sedition Hunters: How January 6th Broke The Justice System but stopped after a chapter or two cause it just makes me so angry
Valid
These are some of my Lord of the Rings editions 🫠
Some?
Implying you have a second bookshelf?
A twin tower, as one might say?
Two Towers, you say?
(I know in the cover he drew, Tolkien meant for the Two Towers to be Orthanc and Minas Morgul)
Dang lol
I’m curious about the three ragged looking copies that are flanked by the Argonath, are those super old copies or just made to look like that? And have you attempted to read the German language edition of LOTR? lol
Those are first editions with some rough covers. I bought the German edition for the nice big map it came with
Cool!
You might like this book if you haven’t already read it
Thanks! I’d also recommend Tolkien and the Great War by John Garth
I’ll definitely check that out
I was about to summon you but didn't want to put you on the spot.
Does anyone here use dust jacket protectors on their hardcovers?
I have them on some books but I'd like to get them on more
How are they working out for you?
I like them a lot! They do keep the dust jackets nice and crisp, and they also help protect ones that are fragile.
Ideally I'd also like to find something for my softcovers
They do not prevent the book itself from getting dusty, though, but protect the corners of the jacket when I want to dust them.
At the library we had this sticky plastic we put on softcovers, but it wasn't removable.
I usually see folks put their softcovers in mylar bags if they want to protect them.
Yeah I'm not a fan of those though I see their merit when it comes to public borrowing use
For sure. Great for longevity at the library, not great for home use.
Is there a specific brand or style of dust jackets you recommend?
There's some independently sourced ones on Amazon but I'm not sure where else you can buy em
Brodart is the gold standard in the library world
They have a wizard tool to help you find the right sizes: https://www.shopbrodart.com/bjcwizard-home
Mine have been banished to the back corner of the bookshelf where I don't have to look at them. The only reason I haven't gotten rid of them is because my grandmother gave them to me.
😱
usually, yeah. but I'm pretty sure you can still buy direct from them. And they do have slip covers for paperbacks!
Do we finally find out that the green alien was the Sith Lord all along?
I am so excited for this book
Yeah I look forward to a Vern story set before acolyte
I need to read the rest of the jr books
My favourites in the HR run have been the YA books with Vern
I love the Vessel crew as well!
I love Ram so much
Okay I finally googled the vessel crew and I was not expecting Leox to look like that lmao
Leox is like "I am fully asexual but I am dressed to tempt people of all genders"
I expected him to look like a hippie Stoick the Vast, big bushy beard n all
ClearlyI totally misread but goodness, I need to take a moment
In other bookish news, I learned this scratch and sniff Mos Eisley Cantina book exists, so I bought one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/116313011950
because what
Of all the possible places in the Galaxy to smell, WHY would we want to smell Mos Eisley.
I don't know and I apparently have more curiosity than sense
O_O
Nice lol, I wonder what the smells are…bantha poo? Roasting kowakian monkey? Unwashed Jawa?
The smell of cauterization-resistant blood from Ponda Baba’s severed arm?
Hadn’t thought of that, probably death sticks smell coming from the entire book
The worst idea I ever had was buying the steelbook edition of Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. Because it came with an “air freshener” that smells like white castle cheeseburger 🤮
…I’m not hungry for White Castle but I do want a burger and fries right now.
Possible spoilers for Midnight Horizon, but man, there’s some scenes in these “young adult” books that are seriously graphic. || “Reath leapt, slashing away lasers as he flew through the air and landed, lightsaber first, on top of the nearest raider. The man screamed and fell, and Reath cut and sliced, clearing an open area around himself so he could get to the open boarding ramp of the cruiser.” So it kinda sounds like Raeth gutted the guy…||
I FINALLY started temptation of the force. Since I'm in con crunch mode for a couple weeks it's the perfect time to get caught up on audiobooks
Enjoy the nut buns. 👍
NUT BUNS
Also, new comic announcement!
AND Charles Soule just said on his Discord server that Trials of the Jedi is currently 511 pages and he's doing his final copyedits
I need to finally finish phase 2. I’m so behind on my reading.
Cackling, crazy-eyed, and with steepled fingers reveling over all the Jedi he’s killed off probably 😂
I'm so scared
Guardian protocols have been activated, the Young Jedi are fast-tracked to Knights on the front. "Young Jedi Adventures: The Nihil War"
Fast-tracked is the name of the game, poor babies.
I definitely need more phase 3 books, I’m starting to dip into the “completionist” read order from Reddit lol
I’ve read just about everything that isn’t a comic, but I should look for the transcript editions of the audio dramas
Into the Light and Trials of the Jedi can’t get here soon enough though
We should be with ||the way Temptation ended. 😬😱||
Yeah. And Charles was being very cagey which makes me fear the worst.
Also! I re-read bits of LOTJ and ||in Elzar's vision at the end, he sees both Stellan and Avar dying, so I've all but convinced myself that she is going to die in Trials.||
Just remember, ||even if the characters you like survive the book(s), unless their species is long-lived they would die of old age by the time of the Prequels anyway||.
So you can stop worrying, because technically ||everyone you love is already dead!||
There’s always ||Vern||
||I feel like Vern does not make it to the Prequels.||
||But yes she has 100 years of plot armor as a teenager to get her safely out of the main book initiative.||
At least ||up to the time of Acolyte||
I feel like ||Acolyte was setting up a storyline of her sacrificing herself to put right the mistakes she’s made||
That makes a lot of sense to me.
Of course ||I’m imagining Vern dying without putting things to rights exactly the way she wants to, but that’s because my headcanon is Osha and Qimir founding the Knights of Ren because why not.||
||So even if Vern did get to sacrifice herself to take out Qimir, there’d still be a group of masked dark side d-bags running around the galaxy for the next 150 years. 😅||
Definitely
Technically Elzar is still alive on the fungus planet. Forever
At least, a copy of his consciousness is.
🤨
I wasn’t thinking about that.
Does…does that count?
You know what? I'm gonna go with yes.
The Resident Evil video games would definitely say it does.
Like, if I'm Avar Kriss and my boyfriend dies, would I go visit him on the weird fungus planet when I'm feeling really sad? Yes. Yes, I would.
Fungus planet? I must have missed that book/comic
||And bring nut buns.||
the fanfic writes itself
Oh that's sexy
Trials of the Jedi cover reveal Tuesday!
All of our favorite Jedi 👆🏻
👀
I’ve already accepted ||that Porter will die eventually, I was so sad and then suddenly happy again when they did the cliff hanger of him dying||
But I swear ||if Raeth or Ram (or one of his Bonbrak friends) die, I’m gonna riot||
Should we start a betting pool for who's gonna die in Trials of the Jedi?
(no actual money involved)
Is there a short synopsis that gives an idea of who might appear?
We could also do a survivor’s pool. Draft your Jedi (a few rounds). Goal is to have the most alive by the end of the book
No official synopsis yet
I like @random vessel’s idea of a survivors pool then if we don’t know exactly who will die, I mean appear
We can make some pretty educated guesses on who will appear based on who's around at the end of Temptation and Tears of the Nameless
I believe it was also confirmed via Charles that we're getting some ||Yoda POV|| chapters
We'd have to exclude Azlin Rell and Vern from the pool since we know they both are alive well beyond THR
There’s something that says Azlin is still alive past thr?
yeah
Guess I haven’t read it
Star Wars (2020) again
Hmm guess I’ll look for it
Ahh a comic series, I’m not much of a comic person so that explains it
Reading Revan right now and it’s fast becoming a favorite Legends novel of mine
I didn’t love that ||Bastilla and Revan got married, it felt fan fiction/cringe to me||
But everything else so far
I need to start book club book but I wanna read Tempest Breaker instead
I’m just getting into the book club book but am so tempted to go back to HR books lol
Still drowning in dragons 🤣 and fanfic about said world.
I’m in two IRL book clubs I’m ignoring for SW books
I’ve got 4 HR junior novels in my barns and noble shopping cart lol, but I know I need to read the dawn of the Jedi book
you know what they say.....read what your heart desires
||It did lead to them having a kid though.
Maybe they would have chosen to have their kid regardless, but being married couldn’t have hurt.
And thanks to kid, we get descendants like Satele.||
||for sure! I didn't hate it, parts were even sorta cute, but it just felt. a bit off to me. overall just a nitpick, great book||
TRIALS OF THE JEDI. The final High Republic novel. June 17, 2025.
It’s everything you want. And then some.
Pre-order here: bookshop.org/p/books/star...
Well once I finish the mission robes, looks like I need to start on Jedi battle armor
becuase those look amazing
😻
Can I be your padawan! That Avar is pretty freaking amazing
Just need to buy a sewing machine, lol
I also really like the temple guard style crossover
It looks really good
Looks like Elzar, Avar, Burry and Bell, but I can’t tell who the 5th Jedi is
I need to continue my reading. My last phase 3 was Temptation.
It definitely looks like Ty
I’m still finishing Path of Vengeance
Plus need to start Book Club 😬
guess I have a new embroidery project also
There's a book club?
Starting back up soon, we're reading an older EU book, Dawn of the Jedi
You can self-assign the book club role in #server-roles and get notifications and reminders!
edited to fix dangling modifier
Thanks!
It seems like it's stuck under no access?
I see what happened. We didn't update the channel when we added the forum for books. It looks like you were able to assign yourself the role, but the new discussion channel for book club is here: https://discordapp.com/channels/478345594641973248/1262179609638867075

Thinks happened!
I love the art on the Labyrinth comics. I already have up to #4, but ordered an extra #2 because it’s a cover variant. 🙈
I had no idea that was a thing. The Art does look good.
This is what I got so far. There supposed to be 8 issues.
Not sure if this is better
those look gorgeous
Right!
Yeah that art is great!
Curious if the Rob Eggers movie might potentially retcon those comics
Just finished Aphra Vol 1. A level comic imo
I finished Path of Vengeance last night. OMG, what an intense ending. It also took me by surprise Marda’s behavior at the end.
I looooove the Aphra comics
Marda has so many opportunities ||to make the right decision. and YET SHE NEVER DOES.||
||MARDA WHAT ARE YOU DOING BABY GIRL||
I have poor ||Yana close to my heart. Marchion makes so much sense now. ||
Yes. Yes he does.
I also love ||Matty|| so much! 🥹
She is so great. The Matty/Vildar/Tey trio is such a delight.
Now I’m pondering if I should go back to phase 3 or finish phase 2. My last phase 3 was Temptation. I feel like I was to be up to date on phase 3.
Tough call for sure!
I know 😩
@random vessel are you getting this for your sweet girl? I already preordered it to read it to my granddaughter.
Yes! Pre-ordered it a while ago lol excited for it!
Me too!
Hopefully, Chewie is in the book! She loves Chewie!
I’m picking up the comic, so definitely getting this one.
Anyone else read legacy of Vader yet?
Unfortunately I have to wait until I can get to my LCS to pick it up this weekend
Just finished book 1
Which book?
presumably Legacy of Vader
Ahh missed that question
Tempest Breaker part 4: ||How is Elzar "laserman" Mann being the most reasonable and level-headed person in this conversation?||
Answering my own question: ||probably had some nut buns for lunch||
And ||pink mead.||
I wish I could have ||nut buns|| for lunch
Borrowed a copy of JW Rinzler's making of star wars from the library
Man, what a big, beautiful book
Could get lost in it for days
Interesting, I need to listen to some of these audio dramas
Never wanted to pay for them, but hoopla is a nice app, I’ll definitely be borrowing the audio versions or the written/script versions
Intrigued
Except you can't. It's an audible exclusive.
Which I hate BTW.
There are no printed versions of these audible exclusives so far.
And no announced plans
Well maybe not that one but the others for the HR
That I should read/listen to that is
This is the one thing keeping us from switching over to libro.fm completely. Half of the Throne of Glass series audiobooks are Audible exclusive. 🤬 I think part of the Grishaverse is too.
At this point I'm getting this new SW audible exclusive and then I'm done with Amazon.
My subscription renews mid-March anyway
I don’t think I will ever be able to get the rest of my household onboard. The Audible account predates the Amazon acquisition. I was just trying to find a place to buy the Wicked bluray that isn’t Amazon, Walmart, or Target and other than eBay the only place I found was B&N.
I do buy whatever I can on libro.fm though and our indie bookshop is on their list so they get part of our purchase.
Audible is the only Amazon thing I use, aside from an exceedingly rare purchase (some companies ONLY distribute their products through Amazon).
I think at this point I'd rather skip a book or read the print than give Amazon any more money. But I'm also the only person in my household who uses it.
I only buy audiobooks that I am likely to reread and always start with Libby, CloudLibrary, & Hoopla so it isn’t a lot from me but Crossthread is a buy first, remember libraries exist later reader.
I have so many libro fm books from when I worked as a bookseller. I have their subscription now though I've been bad about redeeming credits. I've mostly been focusing on my faves or books I know I want to read but my library doesn't have.
Gonna miss those Target buy 2 get 1 free book deals tho
Big turnoff regarding Amazon to me is their new policy on downloading ebooks
Yeeeeeeep
Is this going to extend to audio too?
They better not
I would assume so at some point.
(but to clarify that is just a guess, I don't actually know.)
Ok. I think I did hear about the ebook downloads ending. I was thinking about getting a kobo when my birthday rolls around again … in like 10 months. 😆
Big fan of mask of fear so far
It is so good and, umm, relevant
Kinda liking the ||animosity between Bail and Mon||
That early scene where ||Mon is talking with the other senators about the deluge of actions being taken to overwhelm them in the transitions....ooooof.....||
Tears of the Nameless arrived for me from Amazon but I don’t know when I’ll get around to reading it. Transitioning to working has made me so tired that I’m asleep by 10:30 nightly so leisure time has been a rarity.
Ok after reading Escape from Valo, ||Tep Tep is now one of my favorite HR youngling, just behind Lys, they seem a lot alike||
I freaking love ||TepTep||
I know right? ||her ability to control animals is so wholesomely hilarious in escape from valo||
This quote from the end of mask of fear is hitting a bit hard
So I just had a random thought about the Nameless, ||would they enhance the power of a Sith/dark side user since they cause fear in force users?||
It’s possible, but imo it seems unlikely since ||to my understanding, the Nameless causing fear is part of their process for consuming force energy||.
||So dark side force user would probably sense the fear experienced by a victim of the Nameless…then they’d sense the fear getting sucked up and away like a gas station slurpee||.
yeah, they literally ||eat the force so I think Sith would be affected the same as the Jedi||
I just wonder if ||A Sith kept one in the dungeon far enough away it couldn’t husk him, if that latent feeling of fear from being close to a nameless would make them stronger||
But ||you all are probably right it would just be a constant drain on them||
It's interesting b/c the mother ||kept one close and used it to do her bidding, but it also clearly weakened her. She almost seemed like an addict with that thing.||
I just ||perpetually feel bad for the Nameless because from what I understand, they do what they do because they’re starving.||
||They evolved in an environment so strong in the force, they could take in all the nutrients they needed just by strolling around.||
||And then some moon jockeys took them out of their natural habitat, and now they’re basically starving and suffocating all at once.||
Stupid moon jockeys.
This would be cool to explore! I’m not too sure if the Nameless would have any sudden effect on dark-side users. Seems like the force tastes differently depending on the (potential) victim’s force alignment, with dark-sided force users possibly tasting rancid and vile. Of course anything’ll taste good the hungrier you get, and maybe out of desperation the Nameless would slowly feast on dark-sided users, but its vileness could be harmful for them too. This could also explain why Azlin views shifting towards the dark-side to be the only solution to the Nameless issue, something he seems adamant on instilling in other Jedi researching the Nameless.
Damn that's sad tho
Yesss thank you @regal sedge
I have it on audiobook, just need to finish Tears of the Nameless and book club. I’m behind! 😬
never enough time to read!
That's the Inkstone, right? Or is that one the Goldsboro?
My Inkstone just got here but I haven't been able to open it yet.
Goldsboro shipped but I dont' have it yet
Don't worry, so am I 😭
Goldsboro!
oh yeah, I think the Inkstone has aurebesh on the side?
I could look it up, but I'll let it be a surprise when I open it later 😂
lol I do know the answer, but I'll leave the surpise
I should be getting both tomorrow or Friday 🤞🏻
It’s so good!
okay I'm back from work happy hour, and I just have to do my daily writing session, then I can open my pakige
👀
The Inkstone version!
Love that gold etching of Mon, what’s it say there in Aurebesh?
Just The Mask of Fear
Ah, still very nice
I am on chapter nine of tMoF and have a Bail question. Was he always || super idealist to a recklessly dangerous fault? Because I don’t remember that. ||
I’m wondering if it’s just a means to ||differentiate his and Mon’s techniques, stations, privilege. ||
its so good
This book (tMoF) is a very easy read. But challenging in another way. The similarities of current events are… unavoidably stark.
Inkstone special edition of Wayseeker!
Oooh I like that Vern theme
Oh I like the lightwhip
A little bummed it's unnumbered
I wonder if Goldsboro will have theirs numbered (I hope so b/c I have a matching numbered set of all their THR books)
I’m finally getting my Goldsboro tMoF and I’m pretty sure those are numbered so 🤞🏻
Confirmed Goldsboro is numbered
Finally got both!
My Goldsboro Mask of Fear got here today but I don't have time to open it yet
I was not aware tMoF is not in the same canon as Andor.
No Leida. Unless it is too early for her to be born. Timey wimey.
I hope someone gets to ask the author why. It is a very interesting choice to me. Especially since it would be easy to simply say she is elsewhere.
It seems like the end of tMoF, ||set in the almost immediate aftermath of RotS, indicates that Mon and Perrin have some rekindling that could lead to Leida||
I have ordered both versions of Wayseeker. I'm looking forward to being able to display all my Goldsboro THR books together soon
you're a wayseeker
thank you
Said it in saber chat but probably belongs here more, but they should make a Legends lightsabers book if Mara means the chance of more legends
I’m taking a time out from the Mask of Fear. I love it. It is definitely a type of fiction I enjoy. But it may be making me a bit more neurotic because of the current state we’re in. I’d say US but it sends ripples to other countries too.
Picking up where I left off on Iron Flame instead. Dragons and politics that are more removed.
I’ve been feeling this too with Mask of Fear 😅 I am really really liking it and definitely want to finish before Andor season 2, but man the subject matter hits very close to home. Gotta read it in short-ish sessions
Haha is that Mike Siglain taking a photo for a fan?
tfw you wanna catch up on The High Republic but instead have to read your library book before the due date

I had to re-borrow Heir 🤦♂️
This non-sw book I'm reading had a long wait so I don't want to have to re-request it.
Iron Flame auto returned again. They let me have it for an hour after due time. So back to paper book. Which is great except I read in bed at night.
He’s like the proud dad of the team
New book coming in November. Appears to be by Adam Christopher
Oooooh!
👀🥷💀🖤
Star Wars Books & Comics (@swbooks.info)
A new #StarWars novel titled STAR WARS: MASTER OF EVIL releases in November from Random House Worlds. Is that you, Darth? www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/762382...
I’ve got one due in 10 days that I just started and another due in 15 days not yet started. Because I spent 8 days binging 6 hockey romance books last week on hoopla. 😆
This is awesome.
please share the titles with the class. (in this case I am the class)
Ah, it was the Game Changers series. That was the 6 books. 😆 It’s on my StoryGraph.
I’m reading Heartless Hunter now.
The other I have checked out is Spells, Strings, and Forgotten Things.
I’m going to be flooded with postponed books on Libby soon too. The Sword Catcher & The Ragpicker King, Baby Dragon Cafe, Rebel Witch. Not sure what else. 😆
I’ve read Sword Catcher before but I don’t recall enough to go into book 2 without a reread.
I adored the Crimson Moth so please feel free to yell about Rune being so smart yet so dumb in my dms any time
I did not expect to love those books but damn do I love them
Yeahhhh gotta love a good idiots to lovers story.
At least that’s what it is looking like 59% through.
🤐
I know there’s plenty of time for wackiness. And a whole other book. And much room for drama.
my library book is due in 4 hours so I think I'm going to have to bump up the speed to get through it.
Do you know if it is only 2?
Yeah, it's just the two
That’s refreshing. 😆
yes! Rebel Witch has a definitive ending
I'm sure she could write more if she wanted but the storyarc begun in Headless Hunter ends in Rebel Witch.
Two books after so many is nice.
Not that I’m complaining about too many books! I don’t think that’s possible. But I keep reading series with at least five in them.
I’m excited about a series that is finished. Instead of pining over the next book.
It is important to end things properly.
The Life of Pi was my bible after college. Right up until I sent it overseas for my brother and his crew. I told him to leave it there for those who come after.
I hope it has been well loved and passed through hands that needed it.
I bought a book lamp. It’s a clip on one with a dimmer. I was also looking at ones that you can wear around your neck. Seems smarter but my skin is quite emf sensitive. At Target I couldn’t wear the walkies because they’d end up burning me.
We have a few little free libraries on our block. I should probably start adding things to them.
i am going to have to speed read ragpicker king because my loan is going to expire lol
May the Force Be With You!
I almost exclusively do audio so I can listen while working on things.
Every time I read the name Panchek it makes me want pancakes.
Someone talk me into/out of getting into the High Republic, Audible has a deal where you can get 3 months for $3 (which would equate to 3 books, 1 per month).
In general adult novels and comic books interest me, young adult/children’s stuff substantially less so. Will the High Republic be nonsensical if I don’t go all-in? As for the comics, are they worth reading and is there a cost-effective way to do so?
Read Light of the Jedi first and see how you like it
You can just read the adult novels and be fine. Yes, you'll miss some things, but they fill you in on the essentials.
That said, I'd highly recommend doing the YA and Marvel comics as well.
The YA books just feature younger protagonists; they are no less "mature" than the adult books, and some important stuff does happen in them (but you won't be lost if you don't read them--you'll just be sad b/c they are excellent)
For comics, cheapest way to read them is your local library. See if they have Hoopla!
Barring that, if you like digital the Marvel Unlimited subscription is the way to go
Hmm okay, I’ll have to look into hoopla, how does that work?
I can't in good conscious recommend reading comics via Kindle b/c they keep making comics suck more and more
Its a free library app. So your library needs to subscribe to it, but if they do, you'll get x number of checkouts per month
Then you just need a library card
Generally I do prefer physical comics but after getting a ton of extremely cheap comics courtesy of Humble Bundle and a big DC holiday sale, I’m coming around
I prefer physical too but digital is nice for reading in bed more easily (I have a color e-ink reader)
I’m using an iPad
For phase 1 and 2 of THR, there are hardcover omnibi that have all the Marvel books from the phase
There are also tpbs which might be cheaper overall.
For LOTJ a lot of people struggle with the sheer number of characters introduced--it's a lot, but Jake Bartok made a helpful visual guide that makes it easier
