Increase the range at which barbarians will follow you and/or show the area at which the barb will follow you. This can show up when you click on a barbarian or can be a setting which you can turn on for when you’re in combat with a barbarian. Even if you don’t increase the range, showing where they will exit combat is helpful since when they move around they can practically be sitting at the edge of their idle area, and when you move slightly to one side they'll exit combat.
