When i paly the game the menu is "New game, Settings and Exit" but when i click on them they dont work and in the left top corner of my screen are boxes representing the buttons.

its most likely because youre incorrectly going into fullscreen

firstly, youre not meant to press the square to enter full screen

go to settings, then turn on fullscrean and close then reopen the game
