The neighbor with no emotion seems more mysterious, scary, and it makes him look more broken/insane. In the game now you get to hear the neighbor make these grunts, and it makes it easier for us to know where he is at. The neighbor really lost what was so mysterious about him. Another impact it could make is that if the neighbor would be known as this crazy man that shows no emotion, it could bring a particular scene home in one of the games say where the neighbor finally breaks and cries.
