I think a big reason why I find HN2 Alpha 1.5 so replayable is just the vast amount of easter eggs in it's open environment. Even when I know there's no secrets to find around the map, I often find myself just hopping around the map going inside buildings and looking at the many details (even though a lot are very messy)
Here are some ideas on how to make the current HN2 a lot more replayable and fun to explore in, without overhauling the whole map:
As for simple things that could be added easily:
- The obvious thing is add easter eggs and details. Even if it's something like more coins around the town you can find, it'd be fun.
- Add more random items like binoculars or more cameras. But I'd also prefer having a store, but this seems like a more plausible idea.
-** Make the area more dense**, as of now the town is very open, but feels like it's lacking some details. Even if its some random crates and boxes on the side of the road, maybe some cars, or more foliage. Anything, really.
As for things that probably won't get added but I'd love to see:
- Proper side quests, where you can interact with a friendly AI (not talking to them, but maybe a cutscene of them giving you a paper with a picture of the item they need) and the reward could be something simple.
- More quests like the fountain, where it isn't based around an AI but you have to solve some puzzles around town.
- Enterable background houses, probably the thing with the smallest chance of getting added. It'd be so cool to enter not all houses, but some, and solve a puzzle to get a little something. Hell, they could be empty, at least it would add to the mystery.
What do you guys think? I know my last three ideas are a little far-fetched, but who knows.
