Quentins head goes trough enough impact trauma in the game...
If they were smart they'd just block the exit and yell at you until you come down
This is already kind of a feature, except they always give up after like 30 seconds and walk away. Completly forgetting you are there
The waiting mechanic could work well though if the AI would actually REMEMBER where they last saw you. Hiding around a corner and waiting to pounce when you come back down

Mr. Peterson doesn't have time to wait for you to get down, he should just lunge at you and that would make a ver y scary jumpscare.
why not make this into another type of jumpscare? Where the AI grabs your leg and forcibly pulls you down.
would be hard to do because many surfaces have different heights and stuff
