I think that holding down a button while unlocking a lock would add some tension and have the player checking their area to make sure they aren’t seen.

The player has the hold down LMB for 3 seconds to unlock the lock, During those 3 seconds Quentin’s heart beat will slowly rise until the lock is unlocked to give a tense feeling to the player.

I like the idea, it'd be like the pre-alpha for HN1 Maybe lower the time to about 5 seconds?

Which is why I would say to reduce the amount of seconds it would take to just 3 seconds

Slow actions actually require the player to think for a bit since now they have to take into account that the neighbors will have the drop on them because they’re vulnerable
