Imagine your the neighbor and you catch the other neighbor while they're in child form but you don't know it and they scream "wait don't kill me I'm on your team"
But then other kids could try to do the same
It would be like secret neighbor and secret child. The kids have to find out who the neighbor is and the neighbor has to find out who the other neighbor is

It also gives incentives for the neighbors to not just attack right away as they could risk accidentally killing their teammate unless they plan and observe the kids carefully
