Many skill requiring coop/multiplayer games use SBMM.
It's mostly created by adding 'rank system', of course there are some games that are not based on this, but I think, that for people, SBMM would be great.
I know that people improve by playing against better players, but they shouldn't from the start.
I dont know limitations of Unity, nor it's function with steam, but i would make it based on 'played hours' or 'escape rate' for kids or 'catch rate' for Neighbor.

Of course, this suggestion went mostly from Dead by Daylight, and it would be best, if we would stay original.
But i think that players should (at least new players) start playing against new players too...
Sorry for my english, im not from english speaking country ❤️

Having a way to make matches with filters is a bad idea, since there isn't enough people playing the game. It would be ok if it's another tab.

Generally there's never enough players to add this. It can work if we had enough people to play.

this game is way too dead for that and always has been. Dead by daylight has a bunch of players all the time

Not enough players, QG would die if Skill Based Matchmaking was added
