This one is going to make a lot of people in this server angry... but hear me out.
I know everyone is extremely hyped for the story expansion, but after playing the update, it made me realize just how much the main game is lacking. It's structure is flawed, its level design is flawed, and the AI is still not nearly as good as Guest.
I wholeheartedly believe that, before the game's story is finished, Act 1 NEEDS to be fully realized first, not just to make the game feel more cohesive with the later levels, but also to provide a much stronger base for the rest of the game to be built off of. I understand that this is not the feedback people want to hear... but it's likely the one they need to hear.

I mean, I get that, but that doesn't mean people wouldn't want the first Act to be improved greatly
I'm glad that someone came in and explained about how unhinged the map looks, it doesn't even feel like a place where it would reimagine raven brooks like AS, and instead just looks odd and just uncanny to look at

I really hope patch 10 is like a patch 9 part 2 and the main map gets love. Like the board mechanic, that has potential and it better not just be left behind in the forest.

They should honestly just remake act 1, not just a rework. A lot of stuff needs changes, the puzzles are extremely linear and boring etc.
More ai based puzzles other than just "get this item, put it here, item shows you code, put in code"
the puzzles in act 1 get repetetive real fast
by the time I reached otto`s house I got bored of the puzzles
Yeah and theres a serious lack of Ai based puzzles
since it was just me doing the same thing over and over again
It's a game based around ai and all the puzzles have nothing to do with ai, the closest thing to an ai puzzle is grabbing the key from the baker
I basically unlocked all the tools by that point
and I have already used them the same way multiple times
I miss things like getting the guest to put in the code and thats how you find out
The ai should have more than just being a thing that chases you, it should be part of the puzzles
werent like all the puzzles in the beta related to the AI in some way?

Mayor - make him sleep
Otto - make him craft a duck

deep dive is my dream hello neighbor puzzle
the museum had you avoiding the neighbor and making you have to get a good window of oppurtunity to unlock alternative entrances
like I dislike how they went with the fast gameplay idea
like yes the windows and heavy doors kinda sucked
I don't like how they made the crowbar this thing you got instantly and then had all the time
but things like the crowbar added tension
it made it harder to instantly escape the AIs
and made the player vulnerable
You mean removing boards?
like heavy doors werent a bad idea on paper but the execution was bad

I really dislike how the player removing the boards is instant
It's not just bad for the gameplay I find the current animation so unsatisfying
Quentin literally just hits the board and suddenly it comes off
It feels like paper
They could just remove boards if they make them so weak
They do nothing to stop the player
Aslong as you have the crowbar with you (which you always do because tinybuild shoves it in your face in the tutorial already) they take like a second to remove and don't have any purpose
They should take the crowbar away from you every house, so you have to get it back everytime, it would atleast add a purpose to boarded doors, also add back the old board removing

I don't just want a rework, they should just straight up remake all the interiors for the houses, especially museum

I think only the garage and small hallway next to it are good, the rest is just a giant area with small rooms attached

They should atleast remake the puzzles in act 1
they're really boring, it's pretty much just
- get item
- use item
- reveals code
- type in code
or something else but its always get something, use it, get the next thing, use it
nothing to do with the ai
We need a lot more like deep dive in the game
I seriously don't know why they scrapped the deep dive puzzle, it was perfect
there we're multiple solutions, it had to do with ai
it was just perfect
dude this post addresed my main concern
the devs abandoning act 1 and leaving it in this state
the current state of act 1 just isnt good
the forest makes that even more clear
I hope they atleast do it for otto`s house
otto`s house is genuinely miserable
I always skip it because it just isnt fun
all the houses (the museum is a bit diffrent) go like this|
find 4-6 things
complete puzzles to get those things
put the things into one thing to get an item or code or get into a locked room
like literally every single house is like this
like act 1 suffers from repetiveness
also wish they gave us alternate solutions
my favorite part of hn1 was act 2
you had 3 diffrent ways to beat it
the forest sorta has that with the boards
they let you be creative with it and I love it

it's a shame cause i was looking forward to otto's house
and yet it's the most annoying
otto is like the most interesting out of the characters (that isnt the guest or the neigbor)
he seems to be an enemy of the cult which is a breath of fresh air
like I find him to be the most interesting
but I just cant be bothered to play his part of the game

because the house itself is miserable
and then you have the boer head puzzles which is extra miserable because of his house layout

We need more unique puzzles in general
No grab item, use item, get code, that's it.

yeah act 1 is just the same puzzles over and over again which seems to be a result of the content lock and really bad circumstances
I want those kinds of puzzles
like hn2 seems to have started development in a really unfortunate time which made the game end up like this
I love the new content in patch 9
but that content made me notice the flaws of act 1 more

the game seems to be heading in the right direction im just really worried they might just ditch act 1 in its current state

rocks too but they are barely used

the patch 9 area has crates and one chair so thats a step in the right direction

The forest is my favorite area because it's really open and nothing's locked off. I did not even know that you had to ring the bell on the church to access the ending
I like to think that he's building up his house to defend himself against the storms and the cult. It would be cool to see it in action though
The way I view Otto is that he was a cultist but he left the group for some reason and is now against the cult
him being a cultist at some point explains why he has the Museum Key, but him leaving the cult is why it's buried
Honestly, having Otto not be a cultist would be a nice breath of fresh air for this game, considering that everyone else in town(aside from Peterson) is a cultist
What do you mean, the Guests AI is terrible he can't even see me when i'm right in front of him
