In this video you can thee the ai is meant to be able to cut you off but you need 230 fps for it to happen like 40% of the time
So this shows that the ai is made to cut you off but it doesn't work because usually the ai loses you when trying to cut you off.

I think it might just be he lost you, heard you step on the wood or your footsteps and just went the other way. Maybe he actually can cut you off, I don't really understand the AI in this game. I hope he actually can cut you off like this and that they just need to tweak the ai to fix it.

It was because you stepped on the board, so it triggered the ai to go in the other direction
