Hello Neighbor 2 is probably the most boring and safe Hello Neighbor game of the franchise. But why is that?
Well, let's first acknowledge the lack of variety in your gameplay. You get, at most, two doors on average to enter the neighbor's domain. This limits how much variety HN1 had in entering the house.
Every single window was another entrance, a new way to break in and throw off the neighbor. HN2 gives you a select few doors to each building and it's just not as fun and there is no risk involved with straying away from the beaten path and achieving a reward (i.e., entering through the side of the house through the windows in HN1's third act got you deeper into the house, near the stairs).
The ability to interact with nearly every object was removed. You can only pick-up essentials and a few useless items. Less variety of what you can and cannot use to benefit you in some way, shape, or form on the adventure through your neighbor's home. Why? To make things easier. Things could have been easier while not sacrificing almost THE ENTIRE SANDBOX. This is one of the reasons Hello Neighbor: Diaries is significantly more fun than Hello Neighbor 2, and it was a spinoff! Not to mention we got to a point where box-stacking was an actually enjoyable experience from what we've seen in Diaries, yet the new and improved box-stacking mechanic is unnecessary and under-utilized.
Legacy items are nowhere to be found. The valve is in the game, but the toy rifle (or any gun for that matter) has been completely removed. Flashlights also do not exist and, for some reason, was removed from Hello Neighbor: Diaries.
Throwables are no longer in any of the neighbors' armories. No tomatoes, glue, or anything. The chases feel more boring and less tense now and eliminated the uniqueness of being chased in Hello Neighbor in comparison to other games.
Late Fees is lackluster and a walking simulator.
