how would you make it work it oculd only work in main menu in game the point is not being able to communcate with people far away

You could use text bubbles over the person's head instead while in-game

That way you have to be next to them to see what they're saying

that would take a moment to type it the point of the emotes is for people with no mic to communcate fast

Emotes work well enough but if chat was really necessary then this would probably be the best way around it
