Listen - I know this has been suggested countless times. I also know it's possible that alpha 2 was converted to the beta, so it no longer exists. However, if alpha 2 is still somewhere in your computers, I think releasing it could have a few positive effects:
1. Tiding Over the Community People are always wondering when the next patch for HN2 will be out, and so I believe releasing alpha 2 will tide people over while you guys work on the full game.
2. Assets Because alpha 2 was never releases publicly, we nit only don't know what the town looked like, but we never got the assets from the game to be used in fan projects, and so people have had to recreate them from scratch. I believe that modders and fangame developers were be grateful for assets that would come in a release of alpha 2.
#Alpha 2
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
it would be incredibly sad if alpha 2 was lost
I always wanted to try alpha 2 just to see what they were working on
and what worked and what didnt
even if alpha 2 isnt that polished I feel like its worth trying to just experience it
I find game development to be really really interesting
hn giving us builds to play is one of the big reasons why Im such a fan
seeing hn2 have 2 entirely unreleased builds makes me sad
HG alpha 2 and HN2 Alpha 2?
yes
both are alpha 2 lmao
well hg is more like a pre alpha 2
Isn't HGA2 supposed to be HN2A1?
I thought alpha 2 was the mill?
no?
the mill is HG Chapter 2
which they barely worked on
anyways we already know why alpha 2 is gone
Wasn't it supposed to be an early version of the full game?
we already know why its gone
well, fortunately this feedback is for HN2, not HG
No, just no, people have said this multiple times and I don’t understand why people can’t grasp it, A2 was straight dogshit, it barely functioned, most likely never actually worked, even Adam said that it was his least favorite out of every build he’s played, the only reason people think it’s good is because of the video enhanced showcases of it, the gameplay was trash, people praise it just because it never came, so it’s the only thing worth to people thinking it’s “good”, even though based on everything we’ve seen it’s straight dogshit.
I just wanna play it to see what they worked on
I think the map was final or close to final
People mostly want it because they want to see what it's like and to get old art assets
I clarified that in the feedback post
First off, not worth it, it’s one of the last hype things keeping HN2 kinda alive, releasing it and letting the public see how dogshit it was will ruin it.
Not worth it
it's an alpha build, it's not going to be amazing
and the mystery around alpha 2 is not giving any hype to the game
I don't really think there is anything mysterious to "alpha 2".
the community is not hyped for HN2 because of alpha 2
they used to be, but not anymore
It would be pretty funny to see how broken it is, though.
wdym not worth it?
we arent loosing anything
Here’s the thing, even though tons of people expect it to be the best thing ever, it’s not worth adding, also the Tiding up thing in the suggestion makes no sense, just play the beta or past alphas, and if you have none just play HG, OR maybe just play something else or just the current game 🤯.
we are just getting to explore a build of the game
I explained it
its just pissing people off even more
showing that alpha 2 wasnt that good will make people hate fg less
Haha, no, half of the community hyped up A2 every week, releasing it and letting them see how barely anything nor shit they had is just dumb.
people want to know what alpha 2 was like
if it's released then people will be busy playing it and getting assets they need for their mods/fangames so that way EGS has a bit of breathing room to develop the full game patches
if it did release it would be the beta 1 of hn2
proof???
if they released an alpha and worked on the next patch for like 2 months then I would think its good
Buddy, we have seen Neighborarea, we know what it looks like, we know what the objectives were, there’s no point, the points being made make zero sense.
Here are a couple of reasons why "alpha 2" won't be released:
It won't make any sense to release it after HN2's launch.
Oops, I pressed enter too early.
those are same sort of people saying hn2 alpha 2 is better than full game (its not)
I jsut want to explore it
, go in the channels every once a while and you’ll see people talking about A2
Playing the beta will also make people hate the full game less, though.
It's pretty freaking janky.
Then play the beta, it’s the exact same thing just on a smaller map.
first of all, every once in a while
second of all, I'm here all the time and haven't seen a large discussion about alpha 2 in a while
Yeah, maybe because people came to an agreement that it’s not worth it.
the beta town is a singular street
Someone once said this, forgot there name tag, but they said: “The people who want A2, are the people who barely understand its history”
you just completely missed the point...
the beta map kind of sucks
the alpha 2 map looks massive
and I wanna explore it
because it is
Wow, explore a map that is massive but barely had shit in it, sorry to burst your bubble, but 75% of the map was an empty field with missing assets.
there is evidence about the beta being in 2 months
dude I dont care

why are you so passionate about it being unreleased?
it would at least stop the "alpha 2 better" discussions
I'd still rather explore that than a tiny town consisting of three streets
Has alpha 2 ever even been promised?
I don't remember a single thing about the alpha times.
I’m not, I’m saying it’s not worth it, half of the server is dead stuck to it passionate about it, thinking it’s gonna help the community (sadly you guys are some of them).
I'm pretty sure it was supposed to come out in early 2021
dude
the main reason fg is getting hate is because people think alpha 2 is the amazing awesome build that is the perfect hn game
people would be way more accepting of fg if they knew the issues with alpha 2
if alpha 2 is released, then not only will we finally see what it was like and prove that it isn't the best thing in the world, but we'll also finally be able to get old art assets that were never released
also it would be "new" content to mess around with
No, people think it’s great, why? Because they want to see it in action, they believe it’s worth playing, if they release it, not only will they see the buggy mess it is, but they will backfire more, on how Alexus barley did shit even in A2, throwing the HN community into another frenzy, more shot videos from YTbers saying vids like “another failure”, that’s the problem, I will state this again and this is something in affect on you guys the most, Someone once said this, forgot there name tag, but they said: “The people who want A2, are the people who barely understand its history”
“another failure”
those people are just dumb
Ok
Your on track
That’s why
It throws the community into a frenzy
Before getting hate more
dude its an old unreleased build
And then HN is more dead
people would have to be dumb for being mad for getting what they wanted
it's an ALPHA
people know it's buggy. people just want to see what could've been
🤦♂️
its not even gonna affect the full game
Most likely deleted.
How many times do I need to state this, it doesn’t F//cling matter, half of the community wants it and glorified it.
Not the point
they people also hate hn2 fg
giving them a reality check might make them respect the final game more
@quaint pilot, where are you when I need you?
we want it to see what it's like! we know it's buggy - not only is it an alpha, but it's a Hello Neighbor game for God's sake!
bro is asking for backup because he is loosing an argument 💀
Yeah, brings more hate, they will see how shit it was even in the Alphas.
No, it’s because he actually knows more about A2
Perfect guy to bring in here
He has arrived.
releasing it would make people shut up about it
and it would also give us more info on the development of the game
All I know about A2 is that it's an early version of the beta or the full game.
Highly doubt that, I give up on you guys, since you guys clearly saw one video of gameplay of it and decided thats enough research to back up your claims.
Kinda
Is A2 really even its actual name?
Sucks people will cling into there beliefs and never let go
you cant really compare the beta and alpha 2
we don't have the actual name, plus it would be a natural continuation set up by 1.5
Yes, though it’s build name was Neighborarea.
especially since the beta was made in a couple of months
False
according to alexus becoming lead dev not long before the beta came out
It was made in the span of 6 months
meaning it was rushed
what?
Im pretty sure theres evidence against that
no, it was made in two months
like the fact alexus became lead dev like 2 months prior or something
They had teasers for it going back as far as 6 months, while the game wasn’t complete, they’ve been working on it for a while.
Proof?? the only HN2 new art teasers I remember were from around november-december
Alright here we go
Lemme find some
https://youtu.be/LU1KjOhyato This is the early beta.
I am not sure if this is the oldest one, though.

it's interesting how in the deep dive it the attic wasn't our goal
but it was the glowing blue door near the garage
they had some concept art for it too
museum had been around since e3
Nope since A2.
Yeah?
coolwing
hideout was gray manor back then
yes?
when you say alpha 2
which version of it?
theres on with gray manor
the other is with the museum?
No, the Museum as a building has been around since A2.
or would we call that alpha 3??? (this is a joke)
There’s none with Museum.
gray manor???
I would say the version with gray manor
Is "gray manor" a file name?
I cant believe I needed to specify that im joking here
a fan given name since we never got an official name
What?, that was the official name wth
I'm pretty sure its name is just Hideout.
its a manor that is gray
alexus was the only one to refer to it as the gray manor I'm pretty sure
Adam literally uses the name, he first used it, it was the official name.
No
he never used it in any of the trailers
He used it in the discord as far back as E3 I believe.
Well
I’m done with this chat
Adam isn't the one that names the locations
(Barely anyone has info nor research)
He follows TB guidelines
This is getting pretty boring, so I'm just going to go.
That was the name
That’s why he referred to the Museum as both Musuem and Hideout
this doesnt mean this is the beta lmao
so? the dev team is the one that names the locations
if he uses a name he came up with..so? the name isn't confirmed yet
Yeah?, and he follows the guidelines, that’s where he got the names so he doesn’t cause mismatch.
No.
Just no.
Wth are you on?
It's pretty clearly the beta.
That’s a beta teaser
It’s even part of the beta build
Love people who don’t research
Makes my day
Anyways I’m out
@bleak monolith this was in september/october
call people dumb
leave
He didn't call you dumb.
Of 2021
6 months before the official launch
yeah, that's about two-three months before the beta was finished
the beta was finished in december
December, January, February, April.
4 months
Not 1-2 months like you guys said
yeah, four months from launch
it was finished in December
People can’t stop clinging on there beliefs
plus, are you ignoring the fact I disproved your point about the teaser being posted in february?
Yeah? Not 1-2 months like you guys said.
In February?, when did I say that?
development started in september/October, finished in december, launched in April
the post you linked to of tiny crow reposting the beta teaser
you do realise they dont just instantly release the builds when they finish them?
hgp was a year old when we got it
same with the first few HN1 alphas
Ohhh, and where do you guys know when they finished development, also Dev teams don’t just finish production early lower than 4 months, thats not normal.
I’m having a brain drain trying to figure out where you guys get this “research”
the beta was slapped together using assets from several HN games to trick people into pre-ordering
Yeah, it was posted November.
you were trying to say that it was posted a long time before the beta finished development
Doesn’t prove finishing development, and plus, they were actively working on it in may from what I remember.
Yeah, we don’t know when they finished it at all.
yeah they worked a bit on it in May to update it, but that's an update
You cant just say we know when.
aside from stuff like picking up the gun and the mayor's key being in otto's house, the footage of the game in December looks almost identical to the release in april
We don’t know it’s development status, we don’t know that?
Probably earlier than September since they uploaded the gameplay deep dive on the 14th of September.
Not really
I mean map wise yeah
But we don’t know it’s dev status
Anyways I’m bored and I’m done with listening to this (there’s no research)
the deep dive might be the beta, but it could also be that weird in-between build of gray manor alpha 2 and the beta
The most likely thing is it being an early version of the beta.
It was early beta
E3 was pre beta
E3 is an actual build?
aside from the museum, there is nothing pointing to the E3 build being an early beta
Oh.
He edited it.
From what we know, no, but might have had versions.
It was a build, but was one of the video production builds.
Is there any footage of it?
Only E3
Here
It's fully animated, so it might not be a build.
e3 has a few gameplay clips
Let's be honest, if alpha 2 was actually released, people are not gonna care about and will ignore it after a week of playing alpha 2
guys delete the thread this guy will get alpha 2 for us
Plus, we don't even know if alpha 2 was meant to be good for its gameplay sakes
Man, obsessions
just like a new hn2 patch!!
Yes, alpha 2 is like a Mashup of a patch, I agree
the idea coolwing is saying is that they release alpha 2 to distract people while they work on another patch
(giving them more time)
I mainly posted this feedback because it would give the devs some breathing room to develop patches while people played alpha 2
modders and fangame devs would also be able to get more old art assets
Right, but here's the case, we don't even know what alpha 2 was gonna have before its final product, all we know is that the footage had great atmosphere, but gameplay that seemed odd
it would still serve as a decent distraction
hello Adam
We are not too sure if the game was meant to be great, even if it is to distract players, just so they can continue with the patches
wait why is adam here
That is true. I do follow guidelines. And names were not my responsibility. I think I was just following the flow and called it that after you guys started calling it Gray manor.
wait this is good ive been meaning to ask adam something about devlog 3
fire away
hey adam can I ask you one thing in dms?
or is asking it here okay?
Feel free to ask here. No worries.
I can see, but it is already too late to release alpha 2 now, especially the cycle of hn that is happening in the past couple of months
kk let me get a photo
If I can answer it, I will.
Or people could maybe play some other games.
Don't forget that no ones gonna care after they play it for 7 straight days a week
That too can actually work really well
just in case a dev sees this feedback:
#1114622268195209216 message
Anyway, the developers can update the game whenever they want.
what does request frequency mean and what determines it? is it the suggestions in #1047329656401035284 ? if so do
affect it? or is just how often people talk about the stuff they want to be added
Im a little bit confused about it
and how it works
Request frequency was how many different posts were made on that topic across different forums including discord when I made the tally.
Do you still update the list?
and how many times it was brought up on steam reviews
Nope
<- freelancer
So now that responsibility is up to someone else.
huh
interesting
so steam reviews are being read
good to know
That's pretty cool.
alexus saw mine
What'd he say?
Oh, okay.
What's going on now with the list is not my decision. It's probably getting updated, but just by someone else.
is the list just about potential things they could add? because stuff like this seems like it cant be added unless they change every single model in the game
That def is the reason why he left
Which somehow haven't found a new CM
Hey... could we not talk about my colleagues?
Wasn't...
this is getting off topic
Anyways, alpha 2
ah yes
it was earlier, but just saying let's keep it on topic
anyway so umm
all I said was that he saw the review
Alpha 2 neighbor the hello
speaking of devlog 3
Read the message above you
will there ever be another devlog?
Not sure
I would love if there was more communication
It doesn't look like a devlog will be added, especially how completed the devlog trilogy js
everything we have so far is vague
I'd said that he saw my review that talked about him
I don't feel that bringing it up is offensive
and like the roadmap for the switch updates is like a month late now....
I just really wanna hear more from the team
I think it'd be really cool if actual EGS developers would pop in and answer some questions.
Look at the message above you again, and tell me how are the users reaction...
You're not in trouble so no worries. I just wasn't comfortable discussing my coworkers (past and present). Let's move on.
Kind of like how the developers of SN did.
Also where did this map come from? it doesnt match the ingame map
was it made just for the roadmap?
Adam made it.
That one I designed from scratch
ah it looks nice I guess
Wanted to go for a magazine cutout aesthetic
ah
You did a good job at that.
The most hardworking effort:
Thank you. I figured if it looks ugly and a little chaotic, I can get away with it by making it look jagged as if someone cut it with scissors. Glad to see it worked.
I wonder what is taking it longer than expected
Correct.
Or is it that they hired wrong members
Honestly, when it comes to certification on platforms things happen all the time. The roadmap was designed to give ballpark ranges and goals to hit. But even then these things were subject to change.
Oh
You can see it in the end credits for HN2.
Tbh, I never cared about the credits
Hey, Adam.
Have you ever spoken to any EGS developers?
It's fine if you don't want to answer.
Regarding alpha 2, I was an intern / on my trial run with the company when it was in development.
Especially after seeing the "youtubers" being credited
Yes, several times.
Thankfully the YouTubers got moved down to the bottom.
Cool!
you got to play it from what I can tell?
When Patch 5 launched, I was chatting with them for several hours reporting bugs and issues long after my work day had finished. haha
So yeah, we were in close contact.
I would've preferred it being removed
I mean, they did kind of build up more hype around the games, so I can understand why they credited the YouTubers.
I saw "incomplete builds", but the most polished version used for footage was sent to me in video format. So technically, I didn't play it.
they didn't need to credit VGN and Trinity & Beyond
huh
Hey, any rough idea when the next update for console is releasing ?
I remember when you told me and some others this.
Before an alpha or beta is launched, there are several builds made for testing and just to see what things look like. Standard procedure in the video game industry.
I still don't see why mention them, when they could've removed them, and none of it would've created a conflict around the community (especially me)
is there a chance that would ever be able to see more of alpha 2? I find the development of games in general to be really interesting and I wanna know more about hn2
hello neighbor letting players play the older builds is a huge reason why im a fan to begin with
I assume there was never a singular "alpha 2" build
It wouldn't be my call, but I'm guessing it's unlikely.
and what we have seen is just a bunch of stuff around the time alpha 2 was being made?
and that's why I made this feedback thread
to try and increase the likeliness
would be a shame
Well there are "published" builds and then there are testing builds. But that's at every company.
hi adam
I wonder if alpha 2 did release would it contain gray manor? because it seems like most of it was fake
and a lot of rooms in the trailers werent actually in it from what I could tell?
that or it has a confusing layout
Dunno. I've only seen footage. Never played it.
Hi Jolly
the most interesting part is in the devlog 1 video it both showed the museum and the gray manor I think
the last floor from what ive seen in official stuff is deffinetly non playable due to the window being the same as background houses from that time
odd
yeah it did
Adam, what do you think about HNVR?
Or have you not had the chance to play it yet?
how do seperate the alpha 2 versions with and without the museum?
Alright y'all, ig2g grab dinner.
cya adam it was nice talking with you
@fathom aspen
Have a good one
you too
let him eat dinner 💀
any idea when the next console update is coming xxxx
he isn't a developer
He doesn't know.
Hes not gonna ask
I think gray manor was made for trailers, and the museum was going to be elaborated on in future builds, but then you-know-what happened
Not in my department, but when it's ready they'll announce it.
?
I'm strictly video (on retainer with tB)
oh okay thanks anyway
it’s great
oh I hope you enjoy it
this is the longest thread in 2nd place with #1114263599523835997 lol
its easily my favorite hello neighbor game
