In the HG and HN2 alphas, the upper parts of the autumn trees were very dome-like in their shape. However, their leaves still managed to look as if they had some depth to them. The shape of the trees changed in the HN2 beta, but the leaves still looked like actual leaves rather than textures. However, in the full version of HN2, the shape of the trees has returned to the more dome-like shape of early HN2/HG...but the leaves are very obviously textures. Now, I don't know anything about game development, and I know there's a lot of stress going on thanks to the monthly patches, but if you can, please try to make the leaves on the trees look less..2D? I really don't have a better word for it. (Also note that none of what I've said applies to the full game spruce trees - I think those look fantastic! (other than the lack of roots, which is a problem with all the trees in the full game)) Here is an image comparison to show what I mean:
#Tree Leaves Depth

I think the issue is caused by the fact that they are just a simple texture. Most of the trees are essentially just a plain colour. I will say that some trees like the spruce trees and specific types of the larger trees don’t have this issue.
I like the idea of the dome-shape trees more than whatever the heck the shape was in the beta
I just wish the leaves had a depth to them
You know a lot more about this than I do, so you're probably right
I quite liked the beta trees - felt more quirky, it felt very hello neighborish.
I wish the beta trees had better textures
Yeah. Again, they lack depth. The alpha trees have more shading on the texture, and that plays a big part in creating realistic foliage.
Beta foliage my beloved
the beta trees didnt really have a shape for the leaves it was just kinda
plane spam
at least it's better than the leaves looking super flat in fg
