Since they are already updating the characters to have modern roles, like inventor with his new gadget, why don't I give you devs some ideas on how to actually update detective, while you do keep his gadgets of him finding signal of pictures from your photo to find the keys, why not add a magnifying glass, that can help you track down the neighbors footsteps, and when to know to be aware of him, if he comes further or near you, and by activitating it, add F to activate the magnifying glass, and hold the left mouse button to track down the neighbors footsteps and once you done so, and hear or see him, just run as fast as you can, or hide that way detective does not seem to look like the least character you want to pick.

There definitely should be at least a way for the detective to defend himself against the neighbor. Every other kid has a method. Bagger is heavier (not really a method but a passive ability) Leader and scout for obvious reasons, inventor can make a gun, and brave is literally a defense character.

His would be different. You know Detective's key highlighter ability? He gets it after finding 3 photo keys? Well after he finds the highlighted key, he can unlock a camera ability. It will blind AND stun the Neighbor for a few seconds. This might seem op, but he can only use it 1-2 times (because you can only use the key highlighter twice) in a regular match. He can only affect the Neighbor if he's looking at him, if he uses it randomly, he wastes it. Unlike leader who can affect him in a certain vicinity. This will give him defense against campers, his main enemy.
Another idea is, since he's a speedrun character, he can get a small speed boost after finding a photo key. Similar to Scout when she hits the Neighbor 3 in a row.
