The basement should be more like the 1st Hn1 game. The current version of the basement feels two small and a little boring. There should be a secret passageway that leads to all the other stuff from act 1 of the first game. That wasn't what the basement originally looked like, so it doesn't really make that much sense to make it a normal basement.

yeah its kind of weird how the main thing about the first game was the secrets in the basement, but in the second game, its just a generic basement with nothing interesting in it at all. they should definitely bring this back

But then when he was older (everything up to act 3 not nightmare) in act 3 he was having nightmares about his past

So the basement was real

The devs have been going for realism, although definitely weird, the Hello Neighbor 1 basement we see was a heavily warped nightmare version. Most of Hello Neighbor 1 is nightmares if you think about the fact that we repeatedly see Nicky wake up. Although act 3 and 4 are the climax of these overexaggerated nightmares, act 1 and 2 were also clearly exaggerated nightmares aswell.

Actually the basement was the one thing that was real

It was stated that act 1 is meant to be mostly accurate to what actually happend which means the basement was too

While act 2 is where the weird stuff starts

Act 1 barely has any exaggerations if any

Act 2 is when it starts to actually exaggerate stuff
