For some reason with the books for the bear head I can't interact with them any more how to I fix this?

Is there a patch to fix the disappearing flower book? I got caught and went back to get the flower book off the toilet in the museum, on my way back the neighbor was carrying the book and caught me again. Now the book is gone.
