Doesn't really matter if you can host a server or not, it's the fact that the devs gave the alpha phase an alloted time slot. Your private server doesn't give them data.

Alphas are for testing, they test for a time and then collect the data then act on it. They aren't usually intended to be forever. It's testing the game to find all bugs and whatnot first over all else.
