well in the devil storyline it was only ever represented as just a bright light,
so it was less a basement and more a gateway to somewhere else
where exactly is a mystery
probably a gateway to the heaven.
it is kinda doubtful since in pre alpha it had a redish light which doesnt exactly scream heaven, and well why would the devil have a door leading to heaven instead of just not having it at all

though in alpha 1 it is kinda implied, that it leads to the teaser trailer forest, on where the accident the main char has happens, so maybe there was the end goal of stopping it??

it's heavily implied the fake reality in the main gameplay is a physical location you're taken to and not something happening in your mind
mainly in that one road comic strip where we see both the player and player's car vanish from the crash site after the neighbor gets out of his own car (i interpret this as the neighbor kidnapping pmans with his freaky devil magic)
how nice of the neighbor to fix up the player's ride, by the way
i believe the exit door served as the only exit to the fake reality itself, and leaving through it would eventually take you back into the real world somewhere
maybe some kind of hub in-between area
i figure it's the only exit as the door is barricaded and locked off rather than completely removed
neighbor probably left it up so he himself could leave after you give up on escaping or die or something
how sweet of the devil tucking you into your bed after getting caught by him then waking up the next day
how sweet of the devil to have his house vaguelly reflect your life experiences and ancient fears so you could overcome them

Yeah ofc. Many people wish that version of HN2, before the reset, got released, however all we have are assets and different media from that time period.

Those screenshots look incredible, the atmosphere is so much darker. Since you mentioned that assets and media still exist, is there any chance you could share a link to an archive or a folder? I’m really interested in preserving/studying the 'Alpha 2' era and its original AI quirks before they were lost for good

We know a bit of what the cop AI would do, that is left from the beta files, but the only content we really have are 3d meshes, those are also from the beta.
What he is referring to is an idea I had that I previously thought was the case, which I was incorrect about. That idea being that those photos were two different maps.

Imbir probably didn’t have her own storyline maybe she could have been apart of a puzzle or maybe she could just run around the map like in alpha 1.5 and in terms of who owned her idk because there are much more characters in alpha 2 it could have been scientist or baker or doom prepper

I'm curious, where on earth did the entire "reuse school and security wallpapers for F3 and F4 train depo in the A1 house" idea come from???? I saw a lot of people use them and I have no clue why
it probably came from some mod or smth
it's plaster and typically wallpaper doesn't go in train stations
that's fair enough, tho (imo) a plaster for the F3 one would be nice, given how it's """"counterpart"""" in Newark also uses wallpaper
(the train station that has the stairs leading down to another room, a hole leading to the magnet puzzle, as well as an elevator, which all seemingly match up with whatever is inside of concept separated)

i'm not sure if this has already been sent here before but apparently the layout of the announcement trailer house was based on real floor plans
to be specific, it was actually based on the upper floor of these blueprints
hm no wonder it doesnt feel like its made for a game like HN
for years i've always wondered what was up with all the diagonal walls and stuff because this is the only hn1 house to have this kind of style

it should still be in the files of some builds, if not there are HN1 modkit mods that have the sound in them
you'd just have to export them (and I only recommend this too because it's probably the easiest way to get it)

It's a stock sound, the original sound on, say, soundsnap would be leagues cleaner than one i presume was cut from the video
feels so surreal to me seeing the uproject even if it's just one picture
it's like hearing the original version of the meet the sniper theme after years of only hearing recreations
Also I've noticed that the map name is called NewMap
The pre-alpha's map is called BaseMap so that means the prototype map most likely wasn't overwritten by the pre-alpha and was just simply removed (either that or the map was just renamed)
also i'm just asking 'cause i'm curious, is it known if the prototype version of HelloNeighbour.uproject was ever saved? or is just like, GONE gone?
i'm also not sure if this is already known, but the floor plan for the prototype house has an alternate version

they legit just threw a quick blockout top floor mesh
most likely, i've noticed that this design choice isn't present in the original prototype house (early gameplay)
i'mma be honest, the prototype house is probably my favourite house exterior-wise, though i feel like the interior could be reworked to make it less claustrophobic (though i'm not exactly sure how much can be done to fix it)
i've always loved the prototype house's exterior because it's looks kinda like a "pocket version" of the pre-alpha house (that's basically what it is)
I think the interior’s main issue is that almost all of the rooms are connected via a tiny hallway connecting from the foyer to the kitchen, meaning it would be extremely easy to cross paths with the neighbour
I like it for nostalgia reasons but
honestly I think the Prototype house is just bad all the way around, interior and exterior
which kinda makes sense considering it never was made for public consumption outside of the teaser trailer (like how the Pre-Alpha house wasn't meant for a public release either) and wasn't meant to represent the style or the game at that time
it just didn't doesn't look all that great and I believe that is also part of why Hello Neighbor Prototype Revived is making a completely new model
Even when I was younger I saw this house layout and I was like “how can you hide in this”
(that and editing the mesh is just not a good idea, it's just a bad model)

I honestly don't think Hello Neighbor house models were good until Alpha 1 which is funny because that version also wasn't meant to be publicly released
Imagine a house like the prototype one with Alpha-2 level polishing
but it's probably because before Alpha 3 existed, the A1 house was meant to be the final act house after the A2 house
this only changed because of the "neighbor_3" map that was in Alpha 2 (it created alot of speculation, hype, and alot of YouTubers were talking about it)
so Prototype Revived by SmallPotato95 and his team
it's not finished yet as they've stated in their server and in the fangame-discussion channel but so far even with that it's alot closer to A2's level of polish
it might even end up being better since it won't have the wonky UV stuff that A2's house had alot of (I still have no idea how this happened)
that's probably the only reason I can come up with on why the A1 house didn't look and feel so placeholder-like (even if extremely unfinished)
it even had trim around the ceiling and walls which looked nice

the way people see (HN1) Pre-Alpha and Alpha 1 has genuinely permanently damaged the way people see "horror" as a genre

technically yeah they're all the same house but to get specific, no
it's actually the same layout as hn1 but the layout of that house has always been nebulous for gameplay reasons. hn1 is the first layout so it's likely just the canon one
hn3 takes 11 years after act 3 of hn1, so neighbor's house is naturally demolished and is no longer important for gameplay. they have no reason to switch up the layout again as a result.
And from nowhere they start to grow hill in the game 😭
