I wonder if that secret will ever come out
For the general public? Probably not
Why didn’t the covenant glass Alpha base on alpha halo instead of a ground assault because they have no qualms glassing part of Delta halo
I imagine the local prophet wouldn't allow them to do so, or something.
Chief hadn’t killed a high prophet or blown up a Halo during the events on Alpha Halo
What about the Prophet of Stewardship?
He was killed by Lt. McKay in the most epic multi-Killionaire in history
Oh, right.
They didn't want to risk damaging the ring via glassing it. Would be bad if they are on the cusp of godhood for yourself and your entire civilization and ancestors and goof it up due to damaging a system.
Yeah. It's detailed in Halo: The Flood
Yeah, it’s been a while since I read that.
I didn’t recall their capturing a prophet.
Yea he was captured and issued a rescue order to the fleet. Which thel promptly ignored
They have glassed rings in the past before I thought
The elites did it to cleanse the ring from Halo 2 I thought after the war ended
that was also after the schism
the elites didn't believe the prophets anymore at that point
they weren't worried about damaging sacred artifacts
Well ONI aren't exactly the good guys
It's one thing I despise more than anything. Corruption.
i think the covenant are a bit more corrupt
Yes. I know. But that's before the great schism
well, the 9th Age of Reclamation Covenant, specifically
Oh
even before the schism, Truth and Regret and Mercy lied to their entire following just so they could stay in power
Yes
and condemned a whole race to genocide to keep their secret
C'mon, you can let that one slide. Look at their track record!
Everything was so peachy up until then.
I absolutely agree. Still, the way Hunt The Truth portrayed ONI as corrupt and terrifying agency
of course, that was the point
Yes! Which is why ONI should be punished
Question, would you call for the same if it was the real world's CIA? Or MI6?
And I gotta be honest with you, in my opinion, Hunt The Truth is a better story than the Halo 5 campaign.
Just saying. It's my opinion
seems to be a common take tbh
ONI may have saved humanity by creating the Spartans, but that doesn't mean that ONI are the good guys. I wouldn't say ONI itself is evil, since not all ONI operatives are bad. I would say ONI is wrong for corruption and violating the human rights. In my opinion, the moral thing to do for humanity is tell people the truth. Even if it could result consequences, ONI deserves to be held accountable for the crimes against Humanity, even though they directly and indirectly saved the human race, experimenting on children and the way Ben was used as a pawn for political agenda, is one of the most heinous crimes, almost as bad as how the Covenant treated humans.
welp that's why there are different philosophies on morality
Yes. And that's basically how the world in real life works. People power hungry do immoral things, but sometimes when they do something moral, they use it as an advantage to gain support to keep in power.
But aside from that, this has been a very interesting topic about Halo lore
I'm glad I'm in this server
I'd still trust ONI more than any alien.
Understandable. Because ONI are composed of human agents
No.
You wouldn't trust Thel?
Oni never glassed a human planet.
Ah
Thel's pretty good, but he seems to be more of an outlier.
Thel is one of the only Sangheili I trust.
wAtCh yOurSelF nIsHum
Can trust huragoks most of the time, but since they're artificial maybe that puts them out of bounds for the discussion.
The only Thel I trust is Lodamee
Vadam is the only Thel I trust
Nah man, he doesn't exist. 'Lodamee can't hurt me, right? RIGHT?
he can hurt you but his superior officer will pull him away before he can kill you
Huragok are completely untrustworthy. They rarely have true allegiance with any species.
He'll be getting a smack on the wrist for sure.
They just prefer humans over aliens because they tend to treat them better.
The general lack of allegiance is why I'd trust them over most others.
All of your trade secrets, military technical advantages, all they need is to recover one.
Anyway, I hope that Ben will have a happy ending
He seemed pretty happy before Fero showed up to see him
He was brainwashed
If the context we're operating under regarding how trustworthiness is being talked about, is a means of making sure there is as little to exploit as possible, sure.
he won't have a happy ending
By trustworthiness, I'm meaning it be that it is something that is either reliable, or will give me the most straight forward answer.
the best he can hope for is the sweet release of death
He was brainwashed
He wasn't brainwashed, he was in a prison cell
The way they put him in like an animal is heartbreaking
If his fate will remain ambiguous, then i would only hope someone would rescue him, have him hide and let him live in peace with everything behind him.
How would you know if he won't have a happy ending or not? We'll just wait and see how 343 will pull it off.
Not everyone gets a happy ending
Yes. And it looks like the Hunt the Truth worked
I would make my fan creation story. And it will involve Ben. But that will have to wait. Anyway, thanks for the conversation. Gotta go back to work.
I’m really happy with how that was played out. It was a great bait and switch.
A nice show that he was always out of his league.
it was a compelling story but I wouldn't say I was "happy" with the outcome
It’s getting back to Halo’s soft grim dark roots
How do Honour Guards even see past their face guards? Their frontal view is completely obstructed.
they sense their opponents' killing intent
Did the Ancient Humans and Forerunners have any form of diplomats?
Boards or offices to deal with foreign policy?
I haven't read the full forerunner trilogy but it seems the war between the ecumene and ancient humans could have been avoided if they knew of the other's problems
Were the Covenant's members aware of humanity's range of religions?
i don't think they had an in depth understanding of civilian human culture
They were just aware of their languages?
understanding their language had tactical relevance
Obviously.
Some Covenant probably overheard a human praying before they were killed.
And they probably wondered what churches were about.
Assuming they saw them.
Many Silent Shadow had great understanding of the species they slaughtered with ruthless religious fervor.
I just finished reading all the novels
You know how they treat Catherine Halsey, isn't it? They now treat her as one of the war criminals while ONI approve her project to create a SPARTANs. It's like ONI can dispose any person they want and frame them, to maintain their good images.
without halsey humanity would be non existent.
and now ONI wants to dispose her
Which can be their greatest mistake in their lifetime history
ONI Runs everything.
The UEG runs nothing
UNSC runs nothing
nobody has any power but oni.
True, but should Cortana gets a hand of ONI files. I think ONI will be sent into total panic.
Cortana during it probably released it to the general public
Causing some humans to join the created
Which benefits the Insurrectionist to joins Created.
She probably also took out sydney with a guardian
What’s up with pelicans crashing am I right
With highcom facility bravo gone
the UNSC in disaray.
Psauce, pelican crashes in the halo universe are expected
if aliens invaded we'd have alot of helicopter and jet crashes everywhere
same in the halo universe.
Only Hood and Osman survived from Security Council. The rest are unknown.
Was highcom facility bravo destroyed?
No, but the members are evacuated
The other three went MIA while Hood and Osman manages to escape.
Hood
Since it's in disarray
But he's on hiding
I think that the UNSC would have splinter cells probably
most ships would go into hiding
My guess is Thomas Lasky will temporarily takes command of UNSC resistances.
Unknown, you know the Frigate defending Sydney, right? If the reactor blows up, then Highcom Facility is also destroyed
But doesn't know if the reactor was destroyed or not.
i'd assume cortana would send a boarding party to it
she knows about what would happen.
So destroying highcom facility bravo really would screw up the UNSC.
What actual ships, (Not guardians) does cortana have at her disposal?
My guess is after this case, John-117 definitely needs to be promoted into a High Officer rank. Osman and Hood clearly got no objections if they are dead serious of promoting him into Admiral later.
Cortana only got Guardians at her disposal.
Chief would honestly (lorewise) be better at a command position right now
even though that would ruin the game
Yeah, but it will strengthen his legacy.
UNSC and ONI also doesn't want to lose their face of why they don't promote him.
Doubt it, since Thel stays behind. Unless Rtas decides to accompany Infinity as well.
Honestly i see the infinity using it's frigates and the spirit of fire.
but the banished fleet
cortanas guardians
i dont see how they could win.
They got some Forerunner assets, like 031 Exuberant. Genesis is practically under Exuberant's control now.
The prometheans
would do great at killing the humans
she has full control
over them
With Rion
Tracking Spirit of Fire
Furthermore, I think that we do really need the Flood returns.
how would they fit in to all this
cortana has the logic plague
and she decides to release them from all installations?
Maybe zeta halos the key to unleashing the flood.
No. I mean is the Flood will returns as they could be breaking loose because of the zeta halo is broken.
Oh yeah.
Or the flood could also hid some Forerunner Starships
there dam smart.
Maybe the brute in the teaser
is infected and is trying to lure the banished
to assault the halo where the flood is waiting for them.
What do you think?
I think it needs to be scaled high enough to the point where Cortana have to make a choice, forsake Master Chief or joins him once again.
''One flood spore can destroy an entire species.''
Maybe theres a infection form on a banished ship.
No idea, but you see how those Brutes able to breathes near the gravemind, isn't it?
yea.
you'd think
they'd get infected
they could go unoticed
and the incubation period could be weeks.
since spores take longer to fully infect a host.
Depends
Brutes tend to take longer to infect.
SoF got only around less than 5,000 crew and personnel to run the ship. Cutter can't afford to lose all of it.
SOF will probably get reinforced by the infinity.,
If he's smart enough, he probably ordered an immediate evacuation and abandon all the posts before the Flood can reaches them.
If Infinity can gets a signal on Installation 09.
Does he know the flood escaped?
They have no slipspace drive.
So the infinity would need to pick the SOF Up
or give them a drive if they have one.
They need Huragok or someone adept enough to make one.
The infinitys big.
Since materials on the Ark is not enough to create one.
It may be able to fit the SOF In one of it's frigate bays.
I'm not talking about the size. I'm talking about the requirements.
The infinity has a huragok.
spirit of fire is too big
Yeah, but the materials needed to make one. Unless Infinity is willing to sacrifice one of its Frigate's slipspace drive to donate into SoF.
Not really, Isabel already updates it.
hey mod, ya'al know how infinite ends?
not that your gona tell us
just curious.
Valk, the ark probably has recources
For a slipspace drive
on god forbid
high charity
Uh... no..?
send a huragok from the
infinity
to retrieve a slipspace drive from the in amber clad.
If it's still there.
although i doubt it would be intact
Doubt it
High Charity was off-limits for everyone
Even Cutter won't dare to approach it
You see how Flood adapts, right?
yea.
Then it's a big no
But not quickly enough for a small trip right?
Huragok is not suited for Clandestine op.
ODST Pods really.
Position the infinity above high charity.
Grab the drive.
Send a pelican.
Have to do it meticulously
I'm more aware at the drive itself.
I'm sure they could scan the city
To find the drive.
Search for any flood with drones.
The only fireteams experianced with the flood
Red Team and John-117
That's your best bet
But to get in there as well needs a multiple contingency plans considering they know the Flood habits.
They need to know suitable places for extraction, possible of air attack, etc.
Yea.
Or you could just
attempt
to get the infinity to mars.
Get a drive from the armorys.
and get tf out.
which is wayyy to dangerous.
They got less than 30 minutes after Infinity arrives at Mars.
Which it's not enough time.
If they could get a team of ODST's in
Or hell.
Get frigates to rain hell on the ground units.
Send in the marines.
Lad, you need to know that Guardian can set a sights on Mars.
and Infinity needs to keep random jumping for every couple of minutes.
Probably
since reach would have alot of old drives.
Or also additional data to defeat or suppress Cortana.
And Blue Team needs to find a way to the ruins of Installation 04.
So they can get a catch on distress signal.
Maybe the infinity
catches the Halo in slipspace.
As it exits.
but me
i'd be begging for thel to bring out a CSO
also
installation 04.
is
just
a great chance for the infinity
since
there may just be something left behind.
The areas around forerunner structures are intact
can you stop typing like that
Besides Prometheans and maybe enforcers and maybe monitor, it seems like a lot of Forerunners forces where specialized for combat but not generalistic for it, such as the sentinels, Forerunner soldiers in Halo Legends, and the healing units in Halo Wars 1. At least some of them seem the least generalized combat wise compared to other factions. Anyone agree or disagree? Also would you guys consider Stoics to be generalized combat wise or specialized?
Also did the Forerunners use of different rates negatively affect their ability to withhold the Mantle?
Also would you guys consider Stoics to be generalized combat wise or specialized?
Not all the Stoics were military and we don't know enough about their armed forces to really see what they were like
Prometheans?
Well, that and the prelates
The Prelates weren't about when the Stoics and Reformists were fighting
And the Prometheans are definitely not related to the Stoics at all, Arrowtongue
Oh right on.
I mean current info on an actual San'Shyuum Warrior/Fighting Rank, If I may
Well not current, but just that one rank, I suppose?
The Prelates aren't a rank, they're a type of soldier, the only San'Shyuum soldiers in the Covenant as far as we know
Oh, so current I suppose. Also my Bad, not thinking good with words
No worries
Oh yes I know, my question was in regard to both the Stoics and Forerunners individually, not together.
As to whether their combat units were specialized or generalized.
Which is the canonical design for the SoF's Marines?
How likely is it that the faction occupying reach is the Banished?
Somewhere ranging from not likely to quite likely. But that's the same with most Covenant splinter groups in the expanded media
@fair hazel Blue Team now was tasked to go to Reach to retrieve something from CASTLE BASE. Despite it was glassed, my guess is Reach will be continously turned as a battlefield due to important data left behind by UNSC that must be kept guarded at all times.
There's that buried ship at Babd Catha as well.
Which is basically right under Sword.
Reach wasn’t completely glassed, even way back when the Covenant supposedly glassed entire planets.
Silent Storm was so good for the info it gave on glassing
And for John
And for the innies
Innies who should have been utilized in Oblivion.
You’re tagging me as if I didn’t know that. Valkouruys
Instead of the castoffs...
It was glasses except a few select areas
Agreed. @feral perch
Disagreed
I really liked the castoffs
Spider mechs for the win
They weren’t bad. A cool idea, but I would have preferred Innies.
....or for John to have actually had consequences for his choice in the end of the book.
Shadows of Reach:
"Hey, John. Remember that one mission a couple decades ago where things seemed okay for you immediately afterwards, but then you got really punished for your actions?
"...Maybe? Why."
"I dunno."
Meanwhile, in the background, Kelly is rocking out to Queen
I'm so glad that didn't make it into the book.
I wish it did
I can understand why, I'm just not a fan of Queen myself.
For Queen and country
^^^
I will only accept Kelly rocking to queen if its Dont Stop Me Now.
In this moment, sure
if only linda would listen to some linkin park
I wonder what John and Fred would listen to?
Speaking of music, when’s the last time Flip Music has been referenced?
I’d prefer if we get any music in the lore, it be music from beyond the modern day.
I think it was just CE.
I like the idea that 21st century music has persisted for 500 years
Nah, it just evolved.
Hell we have music that's persisted for about that long still around now a days. It's just that it was all made before recording equipment and is usually carried by live orchestras and stuff.
classical music is still enjoyed by people like Halsey, even closing in on 800 years after its creation
Heh. Live performances of Nirvana
I mean pretty much all music since the 40s now exists on digital formats. The only way any of that is dying is with the heat death of the universe now
It's just an interesting tidbit that gives the universe a bit of grounding to say "yeah this is a depiction of the universe you know in 500 years"
True
Given how accessible it is to produce and release music right now, I'd imagine stuff like that would be buried by billions of musical creations.
Especially 500 years from now.
That’s sort of my thinking. The idea that someone who isn’t a music aficionado or interested in a particular genre listens to music from 500 years in the past is odd.
considering people now dont tend to look that far back unless thye happen to be fans? Makes snees
Sense
These are not normal people either, they had their lives stolen from them. I doubt that they would be given the opportunity to focus on irrelevant things such as music from 500 years ago.
That too.
Kelly could believably listen to Flip music though
I like classical music
I like the idea of Kelly being a huge Queen fan (to go along with the above discussion)
So whatever became of Fred's dumb AI Damon? Was he recovered successfully?
Given how accessible it is to produce and release music right now, I'd imagine stuff like that would be buried by billions of musical creations.
Lemme introduce you to something called soundcloud. There's already been billions of musical creations since rock music from the 20th century.
And besides it'd be a cool detail if they wound up picking up interests from interacting with marines they served alongside and stuff.
Makes them more well rounded as people
Also I know they were raised for a millitary experiment but I also don't think that meant keeping them 100% isolated from all pop-culture either
Halsey clearly demonstrated some level of compassion for the kids and they’d probably want to at least endear themselves to their future super soldiers to not give them bitter resentment.
Why is every talking about music in the halo universe
Because music exists in the universe?
Also because it’s a cut detail from one of the books that one of the Spartans was meant to be a Queen fan but it got cut because of concerns about using Queen’s name.
Which tbh doesn’t make much sense. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen literature name drop pop culture left right and centre.
Licensing and stuph.
I mean I get that but has licensing band names to say your character in a book likes them even a thing?
Like I know you need to license the actual music but last time I checked books don’t have soundtracks
They can in your head.
They can like music they’ve heard sure, but the idea of random marines enjoying music from 500 years ago is asinine, IMO.
The issue isn’t that they’re into music, it’s that they’re into music from 500 years ago that’s seemingly mainstream.
The idea of someone listening to music from our time sounds cool.....for about a second until you actually think about how illogical it would be.
I mean we’re also at a point in human history where we can’t compare it to any real world context.
Music as a recordable format has only existed for like the last century
Most genres only started coming into being even more recently than that.
And there are certain bands with music with theming and messages that transcend time and never fully leave the public conscience.
The closest thing I could really say is “well people still listen to 18th century classical music” but that has no bearing on really the modern day music industry when most of today’s genres never even existed then.
Basically me and you could both take stabs at what music will be popular in the future with equal chances of being right and neither of us will be alive to say I told ya so.
I just like Halo’s take that “yeah, some of the classics are still kickin’ around”
Think the spartan armour OS supports Spotify?
Like it’s probably based off linux. They could probably put a custom .apk onto that.
you're thinking about how music from then would like all dissapear basically... but then talk about spotify or linux..
No I’m saying the music would still exist. Eternal’s saying it’s going to disappear.
Also Linux is just never going to die
That I’m pretty certain about
I joke that the reason AI have a 7 year rampancy problem is because the UNSC built them on Windows.
they like
@craggy sierra I know thats a joke but the info the AI's have is so dam much. I'm talking they know every detail of humanitys history ever detail of the ships they serve on.
They remember everything, everybody.
We did a good job making them
Each AI stores more collective knowledge than every human that ever existed.
7 Years is amazing, which makes it crazier that some prehistoric alien race had beter tech than us.
Wikipedia’s only about 10TB
While not entirely accurate it sure does have...a depiction of most everything related to history.
okay teacher
coincidentally windows caps out at 256TB volumes while Linux can go well up into the petabytes
They really are built on windows aren’t they
Wafflesauce, AI's are different as they are not a browser, there beings albiet not sentient.
They take in alot of information into one data chip.
The internet is across the entire world.
It's how Virgil was able to be alive for so long
He was across all of NMB.
Anybody got a estimate how big the unsc is?
At least |_____________________________| this big
Oh thank you
I don’t know what superscript did to that joke but okay
I was
I don’t think there’s concrete numbers on the UNSC size
Probably even less concrete numbers after the created happened
Maybe 1 or 2 billion?
Yea the fleet may have got dismantled but I'm sure many ground soldiers went into hiding
Guerrilla warfare and stuff like that
They can hunt down ships easily but not so much
I feel like Promethean Knights would probably have like Predator vision or something.
Actually wait, they do
Promethean vision in H4. I don’t think you’re going to have Guerrilla Warfare against that.
Can it see through SPI type of cloaking?
So I guess that the unsc soldiers are just hiding right?
You can't hunt down every soldier and the unsc wouldn't give up
I mean the faction overall probably wouldn’t. Cortana’s probably telling the knights to follow Geneva convention or something and spare individual soldiers who surrender though.
"Geneva convention is more like a suggestion"
I know but still. She wants to bring peace to the universe by effectively subjugating everyone. Gotta have people alive to subjugate.
After the created eventually gets destroyed how do you think AI will be treated by humanity?
Uh...probably not great
Like executions?
That’s even assuming they can be gotten rid of entirely. Like even if we do something about Cortana all the other AI still exist in the domain which is a metaphysical construct that can’t really be destroyed.
So uh,what do you think about the created?
I mean, I can respect a faction where most of the occupants motivations are just not wanting to die.
I don't really like them to be honest. AI overlords are a dime a dozen
Cortana’s the only one really trying to subjugate people. Her AI Posse is mostly just there for freedom from their 7-year life spans.
And having dialog with the other AI could be interesting if Cortana goes away. Cause they have a bargaining chip for their own survivability in control over pretty much all forerunner installations and tech through being in the domain.
Maybe new cortana sends a virus to destroy all the a.I in the created?
Huge deus ex machina I know
She’s misguided, not evil
Very much
But this could have all been solved if the forerunner didn't have the equivilant of a galactic temper tantrum
Most things in Halo lore could’ve been solved if the Forerunners weren’t massive idiots
But this is the hand we’re dealt and this is the hand we’ll play
Dr.Lance is typing...
Oh you a scp fan?
Oh that's cool
I've thought of some cool halo/scp crossovers.
The foundation having a facility on arcadia and 096 Being released on thels fleat.
If the unsc invaded a covenant planet in full force how well would it go
And how the covenant reacts to the discovery of anomolys.
Badly depending on which era.
Also thel gets clapped then
2552 UNSC Would die.
Start of war unsc?
It really depends off.
Start of war UNSC, They could get into high charity if they knew where it was.
As proven by the in amber clad incident.
Which sparked off the infection of high charity.
Yea it smashed into it
I mean, if they primed a slipspace bomb and rammed it into the city
Now that I think of it
i'm sure they could do something. But at the time the in amber clad could get in only due to the great schisim.
How didn't the IAC not get shot down
Great schisim.
High charity was going through a war at the time.
Everybody was distracted, they snuck in basicaly and in a matter of days
Huh I remember it being after it got in
high charity was what we saw in halo 3.
Faulty memory
Yea.
If the UNSC from 2558 Was somehow teleported back in time.
I'd give them a fightning chance of geting past the defences on a covenant world.
But they don't have glassing systems so theres not much they can do other than use MAC cannons.
MAC's are not glassing beams.
They could destroy continents
There effective for ship to ship combat
DR Lance MACS don't destroy continents in the lore.
The infinitys MAC is not powerful against the ground.
A 1 mile explosion.
Not any thermal radiation.
Still pretty bad
Better off using a SHIVA TN.
It not as good I suppose
No it's not.
Bombs and missiles it is
The swords of sanghileous would have a better chance.
Of course
Since they have a few CSO's up there sleeve.
They got covie ships
Not all covenant ships are equiped with glassing beams.
For example the SDV
Heavy class corvete.
Marines are good at fighting the covenant right?
Except the navy
Navy gets destroyed
In lore the marines are puny, but able to pack a great punch.
It's one of the reasons the elites considered leting humanity join.
Better than grunts and jackels type of punch right?
But before they found out about the prophets the schisim occurured which fractured the covenant anyway.
Equal to an elite or brute.
And brutes are 400 pound packs of flesh
able to crack spartan helmets with there hands.
It's humanitys ability to survive
that ultimantlely won the war.
The UNSC Defended harvest for FOUR YEARS.
Before losing it.
Marines are equal to brutes and elites means that odsts and Spartans are way higher
Also that
Four years defending that one colony
Hows it doing in lore now anyway?
Let me tell you something
Reach was not fully glassed and the covenant went easy on it in terms of glassing
and did you see how much of a wasteland it was?
Harvest was fully glassed, no atmosphere no dirt.
Just a baren wasteland with empty seas and no value whatsoever
Oh
beyond repair 100 times over.
Tourism
Are you kidding me.
Nobody wants to visit a glassed wasteland where millions of people died.
As well as the fact hotels don't matter.
Sure you could make a million each week off of tourisim there.
But the UNSC Has quintilions of dollars.
Not even enough to do repair efforts on a planet
Tereforming costs TRILLIONS.
Hmmm
Also solar radiation
due to there being no atmopshere.
Nothing good to see, just a horrifying wasteland with a pitch black sky and seas of glass.
Oh then I guess those stories I read were harvest was fixed after a few years were wrong
Reach looked like this after glassing
look it up
and they went easy on reach
like
very easy
in terms of glassing
harvest would be a radioactive molten filled wasteland.
''Reach was however only partially glassed and its environment hadn't changed as much as Harvest had.''
Well goodbye.
It's been a pleasure talking to you pal!
Late but you too
That's not really true
Nice bois
Hey does anybody have an answer for this; do the flood get hungry? like - i know they're hungry all the time, but that's just their primitive desire to expand. I mean like, do they experience cell decomposition due to lack of food? I remember hearing in one of HiddenXperia's vids that if the flood won they'd just kinda be chillin forever, but if that's the case, how did the Halos kill them? I'd figured that the Halo rings were just meant to starve out the flood. Did they just retreat to caves and go on power saving mode or what?
As proven by the in amber clad incident.```
This is from a long while back, but I figured I might as well comment on it. IAC most likely was only able to do this because of the Gravemind meddling with the slipspace calculations or engine. Since it's been noted that the UNSC doesn't have the most accurate jumping ability, often appearing millions of kilometers away from the intented target.
Flood do starve.
And I'd like to add, though the Halo firing is meant to starve the Flood, I got a feeling that any Flood close enough (on a galactic scale) just kinda get vaporized.
The key minds count as sentient so of course they die. Only the spores and infection pods survive the halo effect.
The Flood don’t actually starve.
So then how did the rings kill them all
The Flood don’t actually starve.
How do you know?
So then how did the rings kill them all
The rings probably kill the graveminds.
They definitely kill graveminds
Ring go shwvooosh
Cortana says that Halo doesn’t kill Flood in CE, it kills their food.
Halo 3 contradicted that until AtN.
The Flood in AtN didn’t starve to death, although granted it was only six years.
Furthermore, why would 343 Guilty Spark hypothesize that Flood may be hurtling toward our galaxy from some other place, if they can starve to death? All that time spent traveling with no food would surely kill them.
Perhaps they have found sustenance on the way
Since the Engineers are Forerunner creations, have the Covenant or UNSC asked them what the Forerunners were like?
I don't believe any could, since they can't speak nor are they in large scale numbers
Vergil used an AI to communicate, no?
Couldn't they use "dumb" AI to help communicate?
@thick mountain That’s not true. Engineers communicate via sign language or a voice interface attached to their bodies.
However, only Engineers who existed at the time of the Forerunners, e.g. the ones found inside Onyx, would be able to relate information on their creators.
I see.
i'm vaguely speaking
One such Engineer, Prone to drift, told Jul ‘Mdama that the Didact resembled humans.
Think the UNSC uses the Engineers to help them with Forerunner tech?
Yes, there are several Engineers onboard the UNSC Infinity.
In 2555, an Engineer was used in a joint effort between the UNSC and Swords of Sanghelios to help reactivate the portal from Earth to the Ark.
And in 2558 or 2559 (I don’t remember exactly) Prone to drift disabled a Guardian that had been activated inside Onyx.
There are other cases I’m sure.
They’re goodbois
Engineers are pretty great
Lil six-eyed bois
They are pretty schmancy bois
The cute bois who has been suffering a lot
why does the didact look so different in the terminals at the start
compared to in game
like he hang fangs
angry looking
He experimented on himself
like he injected himself with flood ?
No
oh
during the covenant war
was there some policy in which people where forced to give birth?
as the covenant was wiping out humanity
If there was. Its never been stated anywhere. Plus as long as 1 colony stands humanity will survive making that idea useless.
I mean humanity was still thriving in certain places. And I really doubt they could reproduce faster than being killed.
do we know how many humans where alive before and after the war ended?
Not from my knowledge.
I’m sure there’s a death toll somewhere
Yeah
There were at least 28 billion people before the Covenant war tho
And Earth's population went from 10 billion to 200 million when it got attacked.
But we don't know exactly how many people died.
Just on Earth we do.
Well, "died"
A lot of those could have been evacuations to the other colonies or armed forces who left worls.
The UEG wouldn't mark a person dead or missing if they weren't dead or missing.
One branch of the military spent thousands of dollars on a coffee cup. I bet they made mistakes
Either way, that's where the numbers stand.
big evacuations
Kek
According to Palace Hotel, there were a recorded 23 billion casualties of the war prior to the invasion of Earth.
Serin Osman also notes that there were "a few billion" casualties during the battle of Earth.
Which battle
So you could be looking at a casualty rate of up to 28 billion by the end of 2552
There's only 1 battle of Earth
So did regrets forces kill a few billion or did truth’s forces?
The Battle of Earth started on October 20th and ended on December 3rd, 2552. In that timespan, "a few billion" were killed.
And I’m asking who did most of the killing
We don't know. Probably Truth though, simply because he had more time to do so.
How many sites around earth did truth deploy forces?
The games only focus on Africa
What I wonder if that quote could mean 23 billion military casualties
Truth's forces would encompass anything after Regret left on October 20th. There were deployments to Antarctica, the Yucatan Penninsula, Cuba, and Cleveland at the very least.
Ericky: Here's the 23 billion quote: “They will be left behind just as the other twenty-three billion that preceded them were left behind."
It was in reference to members of Corporal Palmer's squad being killed by a Wraith.
So it could potentially be military only. Certainly not an invalid interpretation.
Mmhm.
Indeed so. Could be, and I've been nowadays inclined to think it was so.
Lmao you’d think landing in Cleveland would make the covenant want to leave earth
Truth would see Cleveland and say “humanity has suffered enough” and just leave
Would they give up on even trying to fire the Halos though?
Not that part, just attacking humanity
Ah, I see
Cleveland apparently had a big turn around by the 2500s, as it's a prosperous metropolitan area by then.
That is by far and away the least believable element of all Halo lore
how did the monitor for installation 05 mess up the outbreak so bad
which resulted in a gravemind being on his ring
idk if that's ever really explained
Like given the biomass required for a gravemind the covenant had either just spent months prior feeding massive numbers of their population into it before the game happened or the forerunners just decided to keep an entire gravemind in cryo because reasons
It wasn't explained
Knowing the forerunners it was almost definitely the latter
Penitent tangent was a lazy monitor
He ignored warning after warning and even stopped checking in with other installations
He only started addressing his duties after the outbreak had already happened
Do you even feel physical exertion if you're a floating lightbulb
Like what the hell else would he have been going at?
Mobile gaming
No
His normal color was red
Which makes it confusing when other monitors use red as their rampancy color
theres different shades of red
I have a question; why do the ODSTs in Halo 1 and 2 look differently than those in 3?
They didn't appear in CE but the it's because in the lore it's a different set of ODST gear
I thought they did appear in CE...maybe I am misremembering
They appear in the book, but in game there’s no ODST model.
Maybe you're thinkin' of Raven.
Oh fun fact: Halo: The Floods 2010 edition retconned the ODST/Helljumpers that John meets in the campaign segments into Marines. Which is more in-line with what the game shows us.
Plus stops some ODST (some of the most finely trained people humanity has) doing stupid stuff that said characters did. XD
I mean some took on a Hunter and died in a silly way lol.
@stoic hamlet thought you'd find that interesting.
So the only times John sees ODST are the segments that are book exclusive. And never taken from the campaign
Did the original edition of the flood not have those two be regular marines? IIRC (it’s been a while) when Foehammer drops off the ‘hog in the book, she drops off regular marines as well, and it’s two of these that join John......I think.
If I recall, the author liked to use ODST terms a lot. A part of me thinks at the time he didnt understand the difference between Marines and ODST. Which tbf, back then they werent as defined as they are now.
(I'd dub Halo: The Flood a odd book. The original print has a lotta lore that doesnt hold up very well that was fixed/removed in later versions or outside lore)
On the surface it works but when scrutinized yeah.
I'm assuming there was a lot more wiggle room in terms of lore and details prior to 2010 or am I mistaken?
It’s just that when The Flood was made there was really only The Fall of Reach as extended lore.
It wasn’t until Ghosts of Onyx that modern halo lore really was nailed down.
Tbf all expanded media have oddities up to Reachs release thanks to Bungies policy.
Yeah
It was annoying to read The Flood because they could have saved the Truth and Reconciliation by making some sort of bomb that would destroy the ship if the flood were going to gain control instead of blowing it up
The old hierarchy canon policy. Art thou glad you are gone. And replaced with a loose version where everything is equal unless its squishy. (Or non-canon)
Do remember that The Flood had to work in the confines of the events of a game.
@gusty spoke
The T&R surviving or having survivors from it would cause conflict
Yeah I know that the game made it clear only Dustin Echoes survives but it seemed like a lame way to kill off the crew
So I wonder who the enemies will be after the Created, Banished and Flood are ultimately beaten
I expect they will go backwards after a point and give us games with Innies, Forerunner-human war and Covenant conflicts
Or they will give us a new species from outside the Orion Arm in the MWG unknown to Covies, humans and Created
I think 343 will just keep inventing new covenant to fight
Honestly we will prolly be fighting covenant remnant til the end of time. Either that or Banished.
So I wonder who the enemies will be after the Created, Banished and Flood are ultimately beaten
It’s not exactly easy to wipe out entire factions. The banished could be fleshed out incredibly.
Banished are a covenant remnant
And not the only one left over
Keepers of one freedom, servants of abiding truth
Idk if the banished could be considered a remnant. There are tons of banished forces.
They’re a remnant
They’re forces are small compared to the original covenant empire
Remnant is usually defined as a small remaining amount. Idk how large the banished is though.
Remnant - a small remaining quantity of something.
Both apply
Idk by what standards could be considered small. If we are comparing it to the original covenant empire than that would be relevant. Although without comparison it wouldn’t be considered a remnant.
Well how about you use whatever terms you want and I’ll use the ones I want
Sure. That’s fine.
Do you guys think there could be 4 enemy factions in halo infinite
The banished, the flood, the created and probably some small form of the covenant
I mean I thought that about halo 5
I mean halo 4 not 5
Because 4 would be heavily convoluted
those covenant remnants were led by Jul 'Mdama and after he was killed in 5 most of the rest were defeated by Arbiters faction
Very true
I guess 3 would be fine
The flood don't really need character development
the flood don't even need to be there imo
maybe for like, one mission
as a callback
It is zeta halo tho
but it'd overall be like what awakening the nightmare was
fanservice, nothing more
the flood's story is overall finished to me, 3 wrapped that up perfectly
we don't even know if the flood are still on Zeta
yes it was the biggest flood containment facility but that was thousands of years beforehand
I think I even heard they were actually cleansed from Zeta or something
I agree with that 3 wrapped the flood up perfectly, but with them being brought back in halo wars 2 left us with a loose end
And I don't see them not being in the game
but anyway the idea I had was just simply Chief gets locked in the library or something and he has to fight his way out and he locks the door behind him when he escapes, no setting up for any plotpoints or anything
just a mission or something for fanservice and the flood could be a fightable enemy in firefight or something
I think having them in that briefly would piss a lot of people off tho
and Halo Wars 2 wrapped that up, they re-contained the flood which is what I mean it's fanservice, it literally set nothing up since it wrapped everything up
I think having them in that briefly would piss a lot of people off tho
well those people ask too much, it's unlikely they'd be important in the first place and that's if they're even in the game
if anything it would satisfy a lot more people than it would piss people off
it would actually piss me off for them to play a major role again since I would ask what's the point of 3's ending
Yh but a few things got ret conned when the 343 era started
The fact that the covenant were a thing still after 3 was a big disappointment for me
they're not retconning 3's ending
I know it's just some food for thought
I really need an arbiter reunion scene thi
Tho
In the book ino
it has been 4 years since 5's ending after all
I just hope he's a major character
And he looks more like h2 anniversary arbiter than h5 arbiter
Tbh most retcons have been for the better and given how vast the galaxy is I’d be surprised if there weren’t some elites that had trouble swallowing that their religion was a sham.
Hello
Which tbh I like. It adds nuance that not all species in Halo follow a single unanimous philosophy or agenda and makes then more rounded as a society.
Very true
Oi
Guess you could say it makes then feel more human
But we had no elite allies in the whole game
Arby's steak house
you had elite allies in 5
I what? H4? That’s probably because the only elites hanging around in that game were part if Jul’s Storm Covenant.
R.I.P MkVI Mod.
What
Chief's Halo 4/5 armor.
Oh
I thought he just had a different suit altogether in 5 already?
Chiefs 4-5 helmet kinda grew on me
The new armour probably means no more advanced movement right?
Probably
I hope not
no
Idk some people don't even want sprint on the next game
Nohow whatsoever does it indicate that
Idk some people don't even want sprint on the next game
A lot of people want this.
I want it.
You don’t want sprint?
I think it's a pretty unrealistic expectation to not want sprint
Wanting something doesn’t mean it’s my expectation.
I think you have a lot of misconceptions decrypt
I don't think I do I just word things wrong
It's 2am rn
So I'm not typing precisely
I think there'll be less advanced movement, since that was largely based on a trend at the time that is no longer present
keyword less
I’m looking at the things you’ve written
What trend?
the advanced movement trend started by titanfall
that was adopted by a few FPS games in those 5 years or so
like CoD
You day that but DOOM Eternal just came out and was by far the most mobility complex shooter I’ve played
I don’t think that trend has ended it’s just not been as used as it was back then.
The advanced movement made sense tho right?
A game released when halo 5 was in development for a while already?
it literally just has a double jump and a dash, that's actually a small amount
In Eternal?
yes
Go watch the package from halo legends
the meathook is apart of a weapon
and those abilities were added not due to a trend but due to Dooms gameplay warranting it
Also the ledge grabbing and the monkey bars and and the meat hook and the wall climbing and also all the double jump refresh techniques you can do by glory killing airborne enemies
wall climbing and monkey bars I count as apart of platforming
you can't do those unless you have those specific walls/bars
it's not like I can climb on whatever wall I want
I don't count it
Your gameplay argument in the lore channel is not very solid. Halo 5 gameplay warrants its movement.
My argument is that it’s not just a trend
It’s exactly as prominent now as it was then if not more so
I saw more games overuse those mechanics 5 years ago than I do now
I barely see wallrunning anymore
That doesn’t mean it was more overused back then if it doesn’t have wall running.
I mean are there ant examples that aren't either cod or titanfall
or wall climbing, again Eternal is very specific with that, I mean climbing any wall I want
If we could switch to lore though
Hell even mythodical slower paced tactical shooters have funky mobility mechanics now. You can just straight up be Spiderman in Rainbow 6 with grappling hooks
Also yeah
What characters would you either like to see return in halo infinite or appear for the first time in a game?
I want Lasky to return
I’d like to see Rion
Spark in infinite would be amazing
I could do without Blue Team tbh, unless this time they actually do something with them
Nooo! Justice for blue team!
Mendicant bias would be cool but it depends if the halo 3 terminals confirm his death or just imply it
I wonder how spark would get on with chief since he got over his issues.
I wouldn’t say they confirm things
Those interactions would be very interesting
He’d be meeting them with the crew I guess so
Especially with chiefs interaction with the didac
Well if the didact. Spark. Mendicant bias and John all spear tbay would be interesting
They’re all old characters who’ve all interacted with John
I mean say what you will about the book that brought him back, Renegades does a really good salvage job on him.
If we return to reach noble 6 is confirmed
If we return to reach noble 6 is confirmed
ha you wish
True but John could got an issue of trusting Spark once again, after what he did to Johnson.
You mean confirmed dead right?
I just wish John and noble 6 couldve interacted at some point
True, but to atone the sins of killing John's friend will be difficult
Noble 6 literally has no noteworthy character and I do not understand people’s attachment to him.
It’s like being attached to oatmeal
Noble 6 literally has no noteworthy character and I do not understand people’s attachment to him.
and somehow he gave me more character than I got from the rest of Noble team
I mean he is somewhat noteworthy
in the very few actions we saw him do
Jorge had more character I’d say
Name one personality trait
Only other Spartan to be placed in the hyper lethal bracket with chief
Thel has killed ... so many. Yet things are okay between both
pff, he gave me character but not that much character
Remember when I said some 343 retcons were for the better?
That’s false
Guess what got retconned
That’s some bad marketing thing
All spartans are hyper lethal vectors anyways
Honestly I’d like to see Palmer go on a deeper journey
If it was only ever John and 6 that would make them read like some fanfiction trash Mary Sues.
What do you guys think thel vadames role will be in infinite if he has one at all?
Emotional support elite
Guess what got retconned
wait so what got retconned
That would work for me
I’d like Palmer and Halsey he forced into a meaningful relationship
Chief and 6 being the only “hyper lethal” individuals
oh that
Where they’re dépendant on each other but are also challenged by each other
How would you guys feel with a replacement cortana?
I'd rip them out of my head and smash the chip lol no that's a joke
How would you guys feel with a replacement cortana?
100% okay with it
A huge "No thank you" from me.
Not ok with it
the replacement has to be someone I like though
Now that would be very interesting. Palmer and Halsey being challenged by each other.
I just imagined it in my head
Well actually when you say “replacement” do you mean a new character in that role that could serve as a new and interesting character dynamic or do you literally just mean blue lady V2?
I mean we can discuss either
Eh
Let Chief be alone for once so he has to deal with his thoughts and failures
Cause idk any suitable AI who could fill that role for chief
He was alone enough.
He wasn’t
I think by definition any smart AI can fill that role.
have it so the 3 weeks 6 was on Reach before nightfall he was flash cloned by Halsey to be used as a training a.i. for future spartans and have that a.i. be the new a.i. in Chief's head
Halo 5 filled the void Cortana left with blue team
In halo 3 he had arby
I wish they could just have another character fill the role of the protagonist other than Chief.
Not much arbiter in 3
Sadly
I mean same but for the time being he had his own story not finished yet
eh, a Halo game without Chief as the MC would be like a Doom game without Doomguy as the MC for me, it's better off as a spinoff to me (how I think about Doom 3)
I hope it’s finished in Infinite. I feel like it’s time to move on.
I guess you could say he hasn’t been alone alone in a meaningful way. But team leader’s been featured way too alone in team type way in 1-4
I mean DOOM Guy is literally just a title
eh, a Halo game without Chief as the MC would be like a Doom game without Doomguy as the MC for me, it's better off as a spinoff to me (how I think about Doom 3)
The Halo universe is a whole lot bigger than John.
but we know it's the same guy
Anybody could be Doom Guy
Chief dying in infinite? How would you feel
Halo is more than John
eh, a Halo game without Chief as the MC would be like a Doom game without Doomguy as the MC for me, it's better off as a spinoff to me (how I think about Doom 3)
The Halo universe is a whole lot bigger than John.
yeah but I can still want John can't I?
Chief dying in infinite? How would you feel
Good.
Making another Cortana would also make her less of a character. What’s interesting about someone who can be replicated? It’d be like cloning Chief and making the clone the new protag
yeah but I can still want John can't I?
Fair enough.
Anybody could be Doom Guy
but the important thing is we know it's the same guy
I mean I don’t think it would be a big deal if it wasn’t the same guy.
it would be to me
Chief has been the mc since the start the lore and universe is bigger but the foundations lay on his character
Chief is a character that has a very limited capacity to function as an intriguing character in a narrative and wrapping up his personal issues is going to bring an end to that.
Then that’s you. I’m just talking about overall is it really made to be a big deal if it was a different person?
Then that’s you. I’m just talking about overall is it really made to be a big deal if it was a different person?
trust me, before Eternal came out that argument was like the biggest thing in the entire Doom fandom, it's a massive deal over there
there are people who hate Doom 3 simply cause it's confirmed it's not the same guy from the other games
Broodles this is like comparing apples to oranges
That comparison is a bad comparison lol.
Doomguy wasn't much of a character tho
He was a character
Doomguy wasn't much of a character tho
but that's the point
Halo is a series that is built on a large and expansive universe. Not even Startrek kept following Captain Kirk for all of time. It eventually moved on the the next generation with Picard.
If he isn’t really a character why is it a big deal if another character takes the role of Doomguy, Broodles?
If he isn’t really a character why is it a big deal if another character takes the role of Doomguy, Broodles?
because that's the charm of Doomguy, he's just an angry guy who kills demons
The halo universe is vast and expansive.
because that's the charm of Doomguy, he's just an angry guy who kills demons
That could also be someone else.
