I wonder how long a trip to the Ark could take with the Infinity, directly from Earth in slipspace. Not using the Ark portal at all.
It’s hard to tell. Maybe we’ll get to see a demonstration in the future
Probably around the same time it took high Charity
Wasn't Chief + Truth etc already traveling to the Ark by the time High Charity arrived at Mars?
Yes
that's pretty impressive considering the Gravemind supposedly didn't even use the Ark portal, which supposedly speeds up slipspace travel by a lot.
Infinity would likely still take 8-ish months
8 months? With forerunner engine?
wot
The only reason High Charity took a mere month was because of the Gravemind's Precursor know-how.
He quite clearly was working off what limited power High Charities reactors, and other sorts of things that were still on High Charity at all + with how destroyed it likely got due to the constant plasma bombardments from the Elites.
tl;dr
precursor know how mostly sure, but the Infinity by comparison I'd imagine would reach the same time frame considering it wasn't destroyed or any of the sort at all.
The Ur-Didact arrived at Earth from Requiem incredibly quickly to, using just Forerunner engines.
I doubt it would only take a month for Infinity.
Maybe not 8 months, but only 1? I can't believe that.
Has the efficiency of the infinity’s engines ever been compared quantitatively to standard human slipspace engine?
Also how much time passes between Hunters in the Dark and HW2?
didn't the Forerunners more or less use the Ark portals as a form of "instant travel across huge distances" when used in combination with Forerunner engines?
Hunters in the Dark is 2555, HW2 is 2559
The Banished took about 8 months
Banished used the Ark portals supposedly, and once the Ark portals shut down, they got trapped. One of the reasons Atriox was so obsessed with getting on the Halo ring/waiting for it.
Ah so you were comparing Infinity to Covenant tech
Pretty sure the Banished didn't use any portal relating to the Ark
If the banished used the portal then Earth would have flipped out
Covie and Human. The Rubicon took about 8 months as well, but we unfortunately have almost no information on that ship.
But yeah, I was looking as the Banished trip. Sorry, I need to make my reasoning more clear 😛
But the Covenant ships has always been faster. 😉
More then one portal leading to Earth exist, you know that right?
If the Banished used a portal, the trip to the Ark wouldn't have taken 8 months
How you gonna activate a portal without a key ship
A Huragok
The Huragok was a special case
Huragok definitely did it on Earth apparently, so did Tragic Solitude at the Ark.
It has previously worked on the Keyship in High Charity.
Tragic Solitude activated the portal from the other end
using a Human
The Ark side of the portal does not require a Keyship
And the forerunners got rid of most of their key ships to keep the flood away from the ark
We only know of the one leftover
We don't really know how many Keyships survived the Forerunner-Flood war as it is, so who knows.
If the banished had a key ship, we’d know
Aye, and it would've been a major plot point too
The Keyship from Halo 3 is still on the Ark.
Too many plot holes to assume the banished used a portal to get to the ark
Apparently a ton of them definitely survived as the Librarian's plan used them greatly in order to reseed life in the Milky Way, that's all we know. Lots of Keyships survived, more then 1 definitely. We just know of 1 that was still "technically" in operation.
If I recall, the Hunter pair Colony was studying it, or the Keyship launch site on the Ark.
But yeah, they don't have a Keyship otherwise
Ace of Spades, aka Rion Forge also came across a design seed which would've built a Keyship if activated at a Builder Facility in 2557.
I mean the UNSC managed it using a Huragok
Also, lore states the Banished took the "long way". Thing is, the trip to the Ark once you know where it is is actually fairly smooth since theres...more or less nothing in the way once you pass the boundary of the milky way. Its extra-galactic
What in the world have I missed?
And always when I am at work too
As for the earlier topic, truth was clearly only infected as you make your way towards him, and by spores. As for how fast they can infect, it is slower then an infection form.but not by much. We see Bero 'Kusovai become infected by spores and it didnt take a terribly long time
you know what would be cool, a spartan siding with the ionsurrectionists and huinting other spartans
so, Ilsa Zane, pretty much
She's from a comic mini-series
she's in the Initiation comics and the Hunt The Truth audio drama
its still lore
i only jsut finished the flood
Hey Paciono, haven’t seen your face around here for a while
where do i go next
I think First Strike is next
then contact harvest, i think
I assume that you tagged Rioom by accident, Pacino lol
after first strike is ghost of onyx
Rioom use the link Ostral posted
SORRY
your welsome pacino
No need to keep asking people
no, ghost of onyx is last in that series
yeah
ghost of onyx leads to the kilo five trilogy
its last in that specific part of the lore
Rioom is now that we don’t like you, but Ostral has posted something that answers all your questions
so, how's the new virus treating y'all?
this is my......what? third month of house arrest?
yeah. third month of house arrest
its all the lore
Oh, it has been a while since we have seen you Forthebcho
If you click the drop down box “List of Novels” that’s the release order of books, Rioom
@terse lava I had exams. which are now over
and i am stuck inside AGAIN due to china not knowing how to contain a virus
ah i get it
the author made ghost of onyx right after first strike
but lore/story wise contact harvest comes way before fall of reach
hmmmn
well i have first strike and ghost in front of me in person
i might read it in release roder
yer choice
It’s best to read it in release order. That way you’re not confused when characters first introduced in older books appear in newer ones
Release order is always best, yeah
Chronological is super hard
Because books jump all over the place
true that
in foR we jumped between 12 year old and 40
A lotta fightin
and a lot of covie blood spilling
With a sprinkle of Innie blood
so i just got the fall of reach a bit ago
might read it soon
NOICE
huh
that also means chief pretty much has matured
and we don't get to see the development
besides FoR
until the later books which are prequels
i don't knwo if i like that\
Bruh TFoR was made in a six-week timeframe when Bungie didn’t even want it, to provide backstory for CE
be grateful it exists at all
aye. you wanna see chief mature, read silent storm and oblivion
@feral perch i am grateful, but this is me being a critic to writing as any other person will be. FOR was pretty good and the changing of chief was the best moments in the book imo
Oh I see
if you really wanna see chief mature, you should read silent storm
tbh i dont want a certain thing from the books i just want them to be good
they are.
ye
i like the cover of silent storm
ok now im so glad i didnt watch the fall of reach before because i hear its mediocre and probably would have made me not want to read the book
fall of reach was a movie?
Though it really wasn't that good
yeah im really glad i didnt watch it
shame by the developer
although i want to get to watching the halo movies someday
its the animated film, right?
there were two animated ones
the fall of reach was a 3d animated one
the 2d animated one was a mini series called halo legends
@gilded mason @terse lava you’re the Covie lovers here, what are your thoughts on this?
I think he has some good points, but is missing the point overall.
“Covie lovers” 😂
whose he?
It’s a they
forget the Covie lovers and UNSC people, Flood all the way
Both Ado and Ostral are as Eternal described, “Covie lovers”
❤️
@cloud trellis If you have any questions based on Covenant lore, Ado and Ostral are probably your best chance
And if you want to see someone have a mental breakdown at the keyboard and cover the channel in a wall of text
Ask me anything about guns
@versed helm
What's a bullet
^ Yeah, he knows a lot about guns
Your mum
😮
Don’t start him Ostral
Anyway
I'm actually... suddenly kinda hopeful some inkling of projection sights returns in Infinite.
I suddenly feel as if they kinda need to be retconned as having always been a thing.
They were probably one of 343's greatest additions to the world, if one of their more random additions to gameplay.
I mean....aren’t they? Or, haven’t they?
Ok what have I missed now
Are they not what’s projected by a HUD?
I wanted your opinion on a rant. @terse lava
Well, what I was referring specifically to were weapons like the MA5 having in-built holographic projectors.
As they do in Halo 5.
Because, when you think about it, there's... 2 main things a soldier uses a HUD for. Navigation and targeting.
If he had something else to handle navigation, a projection sight does everything a regular soldier's HUD is responsible for.
@stoic hamletalright give me a few minutes
I suppose IFF might be another function.
Keeping track of the positions of your team mates.
I suppose that's the one thing someone without a HUD really forgoes if projection sights are a thing. As well as other on-the-fly visual representations, but I assume a datapad could handle that.
we have alien experts
We have several experts on various things, yis
And - hol up - who are the individuals who you often see forgoing HUDs?
legends
Individuals like one Sergeant Zhao Heng Lopez. Or one Sergeant Major Avery Johnson. Or Sergeant John Forge.
Experienced jarheads.
you mean GODLY jarheads
Guys and gals who don't need some machine to tell 'em where their marines are at a given time, because they're likely where they told em to be.
I feel a conceptualization coming on
Eeeeeeep!
not really
they're just heckin amazing
Wasn’t Lopez given a tactical piece on a headband? In the Motion comic I believe she was, anyways.
Johnson uses Shooter Glasses often enough.
Forge I’ve got nothing
Hm, quite certain I have read that rant before
forge had an enhanced shotgun, i think
Think he posted it on waypoint as well
He posted it to /r/Halo before.
Anyway, projection sights fix everything
They're now my favourite thing about Halo 5
Oh I see, literally 3 hours ago, interesting
And you know what?
The AR also looks the best it ever has in Halo 5
Fight me
God, I feel a sudden need to play Halo 5
MA5K is best AR.
But the MA37’s also really nice.
I can’t wait to see what the MA40 looks like up close with the ammo counter and stuff
First off, I win on a technicality because the MA5K is an assault carbine.
Second off, I concur.
If there's no indication of it having a projection sight (or workable alternative) I will be a bit sad tbh
Fair.
And I will also be sad. But I wonder how it will work for that sort of design.
@stoic hamlet I would agree with him I thr sense that the covenant have. Even portrayed rather badly when one compares lore and games. Yes you are usually a super soldier but even when you are not the enemy falls somewhat easily. Its sadly the reality of making a game and expanding on the lore
Mhm. My thoughts as well. He’s not wrong, but I think he’s taking it a little bit too far.
Ye
Too far yea I do agree too
meanwhile, the MAR is the better AR
Shame Looters left, he loves to talk about guns
But realistically, if you want to face the covenant as shown in the books, the game would be unplayable
U WOT
that is true
Riddle me this
Is the MAR designed for accurate, controllable, automatic fire with .308 at between 600-900 RPM out to 300m?
Does the MAR break the very laws of physics to somehow be a bullpup that also has a fully adjustable shoulder stock?
does the MAR have recoil?
Are we talking about the Galil derivative here?
we're taking about the basic MAR
I
Don't know which in particular you're referring to
But it's probably chambered in 5.56
And ergo
Wimpy
a stock, factory fresh MAR vs a stock factory fresh bullpup gun of yours
What MAR tho
There are multiple weapon systems throughout history that bear the name MAR, none of them being particularly widespread
Maybe the acronym refers to something else I'm not aware of
magnetic assault rifle
Ahh I see
Oh so you mean like
a Gauss/rail-rifle
Hypothetically
yeah
I mean sure, if you've got a lot of fancy batteries
But the MA5 gets the job done
it does
that it does
But we aren’t using the MA5 in Infinite ;P
Well
so what all weapons are there? hs the list been released already?
I mean, we've seen what we're tentatively calling the MA40 based off the nerf gun
What's the MAR?
That's the slick MA37 redux (Not the MAR, the MA40)
We've seen a magnum that... looks like the Reach one, dunnit?
On toys, this is.
We've seen a BR55 and an M7
And a SPNKR
And what looks to be a redesigned hydra
and the ARC?
You want the name of the acronym or are you asking if we’ve seen it?
Its the railgun
Asymmetrical Rail Carbine, IIRC.
Or maybe not
It’s been a bit since I’ve looked
Asymmetric Recoilless Carbine.
Ah, thank
because 343 are out of their minds.
It's a railgun that's
Arc Reactor Cannon
Actually a coilgun
Or maybe not
That is recoilless
But not by any mechanism related to it actually being a rail or coilgun
Because as we all know, railguns and coilguns have an awful lot of recoil.
well......it does use mag fields to project projectiles
Mhm.
For every action
at mach speeds
There is an equal and opposite reaction
the action being the fields, the reaction being the ejection of the slug
there's no explosive force propelling it forward to cause a recoil
...
no gun powder in the back explosive force, i mean
See, the way an ordinary gun works
Is that the explosive force of the deflagrating propellant transfers its energy into the the slug
Well its kinda weird in its fiction. I actually dont think we "seen" outside books and descriptions. All we have is gameplay to rely on.
And as the slug leaves the barrel, it uses the density of the expanding gases to push energy back into the bolt of the weapon
but there's no expanding gases here
And the reciprocating bolt is the recoil you feel
no solid propellant
Yes - instead of expanding gasses, what you have is the force of magnetism.
That would work the same way.
You know how I know it?
tried and tested?
Because the experimental railguns of the modern day have recoil, yes.
Honestly, I don't explain it that well.
But anything that pushes something else gets the energy it put into the thing blasted back at it.
but magnetism itself causes no recoil
Yes it does
You know that feeling when you try to push two magnets together and they push apart?
repulsion, yeah
That's your recoil, basically.
dude what no
magnetic repulsion is proximity based
@severe iris has been auto muted.
What in the world?
Cripes
Oof
=/
How, why?
Man was just talking about recoil
Accidental bad word I bet
That’s a safe bet
Lets not joke about that here please
Sorry
Regardless what Looters said is right. That would be your recoil. Its one reason why the ARC is joked. Granted suspension of disbelief is to be had cause the ARC is far from the only thing impossible in Halo.
Neural...
👍
Wonder how long it takes the covenant to terraform a world
Even though it's almost always a typo
typo once twice or thrice
yer gonna be maybe fine
but typo a fourth time
and you'll have an ARC shoved up your behind
Chuckled more thrn I should have at that
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. Maybe stop before it goes too far?
yeah. sorry
Typos are unreal today. Jeez...
depends on the autocorrect
Well typos are first then autocorrect makes it worse
aye. they do
welp, i gtg. might be on later
have fun mi amigos
Later
Well in other news. Have you heard about the best character ever? Spock the space Cat
Good ol' Spock
For those not in the know: https://www.halopedia.org/Spock
A cat so cool she was allowed on the Spirit of Fire Bridge.
Wasn't there a cat on PoA as well?
Yeah, I think a reference to Alien?
Ah, chuck it on the pile loool
lol
@keen canopy The cat on the POA is just a easter egg and isn't considered canon, it's a joke at best. That entire board you see at the beginning of POA isn't really considered cannon by anyone.
I wish Staten was around for Halo 3 also
We could've gotten a more competent and threatening Truth, a more involved Arbiter, much more Separatist action, and a Johnson that wasn't done absolutely dirty by Halo 3.
Still his lines at the start of Halo 3 are comedy gold, but some did feel a little out of place
Would have been great to have him, yeah
Yea
so, i just find the terminal where 343 GS talk about a ship having crash on the ring, do we ever got id on what was on the ship?
As far as I'm aware, it's still a mystery.
Yep. Still no info as to whatever or whoever was on that ship.
Probably won't ever get any.
Closest we ever got was 343 joking about it being a bear like race
I’m imagining like, the cutest possible bears.
Like some cute children’s cartoon stuff
The bears from We Bare Bears
Yup, exactly
It will be care bears who shoot plasma
Turns out that’s where the Sangheili get their plasma designs from
The bears
Not the forerunners
They’re a member of the Covenant Fringe who accidentally revealed themselves to humanity, but the Ministries covered it up.
Heh
throws tomato
That was... an attempt.
Sorry I hate the Star Trek reject aliens which were in the Locke movie
did you just call the covenant star trek rejects
anger noises
The Yonhet design wasn’t... especially good.
i agree with that one but most of the covenant is designed great in the pre 343 era
elites, grunts, hunters, jackals
etc
I mean, I’m not gonna disagree with that, but considering he was talking about Covenant fringe just a couple messages ago... and the only fringe species we know of are the Yonhet... which appeared in Nightfall...
Arent the Sharqoui/Drinoll fringe as well? Or would I be mistaken?
Ehh...sort of kind of? They were more living weapons then a race
True
yeah the xenos in the games are great <3
Before they were enslaved though. Probably some life worker project
do u think there is a planet that is made of egg white and one big yolk in the middle
If the planet is the size of an egg than yes
Imagine just a random boiled egg floating through space
Well... There's a planet thats shaped like an egg in real Life called Wasp 12b, though its color isnt white, buuuut it has the color of an Easter Egg kinda.
Actually theres another one called haumea thats white, no yolk in the Middle tho
@sand iris this is lore chat...
Why am I getting sudden Dr Who flashbacks with the whole planet that's and egg discussion?
cause thats stuff we generally see in dottore who
it'd be pretty cool if the regulars here got some rank like lore master or something
It'd make me feel all warm and fuzzy
hehe
it'd be nice to see that
like, hardcore fans being appreciated for knowing this stuff
All equal here yo
Says the moderator. 😉
Pfft. Not that it changes my statement ;)
the more active ppl here do know WAAY more about the haloverse than the avg player
A lotta the folks be Halopedians ;)
I'd sure hope the ones I keep seeing know their stuff lol. If they edit wikis and so on lol
thats why we're here
cause we know
Its always fun to see folks talk here though xD Keeps me on my toes at times lol
(And I say that from a lore pov)
You guys think infinite will probably have playable Elites? I'm pretty sure that's the reason they introduced the anvil initiative in the lore
Well, I can always hope.
I don’t think the two concepts are related
Anvil was used to explain stuff in the original Halo Online. But 343i has at least kept it around.
I'm hoping the fact that 24 SoS agents are aboard the Infinity will actually come into play
I would truly.hope infinite has playable sangheili, been waiting since 2010
*2014
I didnt count that due to it being an already existing game
H2A was technically brand new
Yea, but they just used h4 models...rather badly
Can’t discount it just cuz you don’t like it /shrug
Stone makes a good point. I don’t really like H5’s FF but it’s still FF
Wasnt discounting it for that
But I concede yes I guess it would count as a new game with the newer maps
if your a true fan what was the reason MC was able to get of the exploding ring in Halo 3. And there is a very specific reason
plz answer
Are you asking because you don't know, or is this some purity test thing?
^ Yeah... I can see it both ways and need some clarity
The fact Johnson left his hog there?
Or about the FUD?
Maybe even the portal and how it collapsed as the FUD went through?
Nah, that last one isn't part of "getting off" the ring
Hey, I dabble in constructed languages (dothraki, klingon, etc). Been thinking about trying to make a fleshed out Sangheili language inspired by what's on the halopedia page but also with my own linguistic interpretation of it
Well I would still say the hog as that was needed to get to the frigate
Are there any sources beyond thaat wiki page or has 343/bungie said anything on it?
bc if there's already a proper sangheili language with grammar and whatnot out there i wouldn't want to step on any toes
If I recall correctly there's a couple fan attempts at constructing one, but nothing official.
Okay! I may tackle it as a summer project then
There is a language made by Bungie and then later 343, yes. But the full extent of it is not known to the public
Just bits and pieces assembled from the little we know
Nah, that last one isn't part of "getting off" the ring
Well the FUD was still needed but the portal but I added just for further elaboration
I don't mean to be rude, but by language do you mean a handful of words or something with fleshed out grammar, like something you could make intelligble sentences out of?
The latter
Okay, neat
I personally only know “Wort” lol
Don’t know if that’s even a word but... it’s what I know
imo the sangheili are one of the coolest parts of the lore and I love anything that further fleshes them out as a species and culture
Yea, closest we have was from halo 2 promo stuff with covenant symbols for each letter of the alpabet
It is
Okay so I know one Sanghelli word lol. What does it mean?
As expected, it means something like "Move urgently" or something along those lines
Ahh I see
The only bit of Sangheili language I consistently remember is like, nishum.
Filthy nishum
no I know but Im asking
no I know
So it was a purity test?
if your a true fan
Thinly veiled gatekeeping, more like.
Cant really be a purity test seeing as the way off the ring technically varies
Same thing, really
Nope your all wrong those were not the answers I was looking for.
.....
Well that’s how Chief gets off the ring though
The real way off the ring was the friends we made along the way
He takes Johnson’s Hog with Arby, they drive to the FUD and then leave...
Let me get this straight, because you didn't like the answers, they were wrong?
@unique rune Metaphorically speaking I would agree, but literally is what I said
It was because of Mendicate Bias. If you check the terminal in the last mission, Mendicate says he will help him and does so. The path to the frigate was literally the only parts standing and they got desimated right after the player drives over them
🙄
🤦♂️
I mean.
Technically sure.
Like I said, answer varies
I mean technically they are all correct answers but not the exact answer I was thinking of srry for being rude
Also, we have no idea if MB actually altered the way that the ring's scaffolding was exploding
Yeah there is no proof. He said it, yes, but it doesn’t mean he did it...
I guess i'm wrong then srry if I wasted your time. I am only a kid
He said it, yes, but it doesn’t mean he did it...
I meant more MB could've simply been referring to the portal destination
eh all the asnwers could be taken as correct
Well it is up to interpretation Ostral. (P.S I’m not saying I disagree with you, just playing Devil’s Advocate).
I doubt Mendicant was "keeping the ring together" as Chief and Arby were driving the hog to the Forward Unto Dawn
Until?
The frigate
Typo
I figured lol. Just wanted to point it out ;P
No worries, Beast
Either way all good, and you are fine chief
thx
"The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can to keep it stable - keep you safe."
I do like to think that MB somehow contributed to John and Thel making it to the Dawn despite all the chaos.
I think all MB did was direct the MC to Requiem
Did the Insurgents and the UNSC work together during the later years of the Covenant war or did they just keep going at each other's throats?
they kinda did
They kind of did which one?
i dont remember the name of the book
but it happens
a spartan team is undercover on an asteroid colony
but a unsc ship lands there a bit damaged
it features thel vadame
both the innies and unsc work to rek the invading covies
and they do work together after the war
Interesting.
I figured the tensions are still kind of there even by Halo 5?
I need to consult the wiki tbh
Yes.
they are, but between zealous sects
I wouldn't know much about Circumstances within Halo 5 btw since I myself haven't played it but have seen gameplay and cutscenes.
the swords of sanghelios ask for the unsc's help to take back sanghelion
Yeah i know that. For my understanding the last of the Covenant remnants gets destroyed in Halo 5
at least the most powerful remnant that remains
Yes, Jul's Covenant was destroyed
technically, Jul leads the Didact's groupies
Im a bit perplexed that Sangheili of all species still believe in the Covenant
Some Sangheili want power.
even after the events of the Great Schism and how the great journey is revealed to be nothing but bs
And want to consolidate that power into a faction they lead
There are an undefined number of remnants so the covenant can come back in some form as many times as the writers require
Yeah but probably never as they were prior to Halo 3
Doesn’t need to be like they used to be
Just needs to be an excuse to have the UNSC fight elites and grunts
The whole key to the Covenant is the Great Journey, if the Covenant abandon that they're no longer the covenant.
IMO
but they find out that the journey is just mass suicide
Jul’s covenant still believed that forerunners were gods, even if they didn’t believe in the Journey
some sects stopped believing, though, right?
Yes
oh, they know that the great journey is nothing but bamboozlement of the highest order
If the Forerunners were gods than why did they get defeated by space zombies.
Checkmate Covies.
cause the space zombies had neural physics
Because the space zombies were devils
magic devils
but its quite interesting that the flood saw itself as a catalyst
dust that turns you into cronenbergs
Its more interesting to me how in Halo Legends Cortana reflects back to the Forerunners are a noble and peace loving people who were forced into this war with the Floods all while ignoring it was the Forerunners who decimated ancient humanity which was actively fighting the Flood and thus doomed the entire Galaxy.
My headcanon is that by the time of Halo Legends Cortana is going rampant, I think that's what its called.
So maybe her facts are not all there.
almost to death,
then requiem happened
Well yeah Halo Legends Cortana is rampant since she has humanity and the Covenant have a truce to fight the Flood when the reality was much different
Halo legends ties into a lot of halo stuff
Even in 2020. It ties into blue team for infinite / new book.
The prototype. Ties into halo wars 2 dlc too.
Rise of atriox.
That I did not realize
It’s interesting how certain pieces of media become very influential
Kilo five trilogy certainly being one of them.
See there’s some you might expect. Like Greg besr trilogy because those are obvious. Or the games.
K5 is pretty important to connect stuff now
But then you’ve got stuff like kill five trilogy which introduced Venezia which really became this central place in the halo life
Lore
Legends. The stories connect in many ways. Thematically. Visually etc.
Halo nightfall.
It introduced so many things which were used forward more. Condor. Kil Silas. etc.
Venezia
Important
I think you mean Gao, silly.
Venezia became quite important.
like, the whole pious inquisitor debacle happened there
Yeah legends have Fal Chavame who was made canon by the halo 2 terminals anniversary.
Yep. Halo Legends was always canon sans Odd One Out.
1337 is still a memorable character. Makes me wish he was canon.
Yeah. Him v Pluton was fun
Well, Halo Legends is the Halo Anime
Also, please, try not to get coffee everywhere, I like having clean clothes
instead of the dragon balls we have the skulls
and the saiyans are spartans
and instead of going super saiyan with longer hair, the armor version upgrades to give better combat ability
with the final form being didact-ian armour
which'll be like ultra instinct in the DBS saga
I think we should stick with Halo: Legends...
So... would Chief = Xeno Goku? Since he’s the most serious goku there is?
dumb question: is there any connection between the opening for the animated "The Fall Of Reach" where Blue Team is looking for something on Reach and the upcoming novel Shadows of Reach? or would this question enter spoiler territory?
Given that, in the prologue and epilogue for TFOR-AS, Blue Team is wearing their GEN2 Mjolnir armor, one could say that their appearance in TFOR-AS is distinct form their Shadows of Reach visit.
However, the prologue and epilogue could also be retconned to being one and the same with Shadows of Reach. Perhaps their GEN2 armor will become non-canon, and their GEN3 armor is what they actually wore in that moment.
Correct armor appearance is one of the things that gets pretty poor treatment in the Halo franchise, usually.
or perhaps they receive their Gen3 at some point afterwards. im not sure. im sure things will get explained in Shadows of Reach
Probably.
i should pick up Shadows of reach when it either hits retail or arrives at Half Price Books
When it hits retail
Imo that sort of stuff isnt necessary to the overall story ao its understandable their appearance is off
The story doesnt change based on how they look
It doesn’t, but it helps with timeline and consistency.
That’s why so many people threw a fit when the cover for Silent Storm was revealed.
I feel theyre just going to retcon a lot of stuff by the end of it regardless.
Well.......one of the reasons.
Highly possible
I just hope they give reasons for it. 343 don’t really do that.
And it really aggravates me, lol
"mUh maRKetiNG"
"brand recognizability"
just make everything consistent dangit
If I had my way, Mark IV basic would have been used by every Spartan except Gray Team and Black Team, up until 2551 at least.
not counting IIIs of course
Give them different colours too, or at least different colours as markings on the armour
That I don't want, unless it's very slight shading differences
Like a secondary colour or something. Like how Jun has some blue markings, but is very distinctly green.
secondary color is okay I guess
Sounds kind of boring after an expansive color palette
Multiplayer can have all the colors of the rainbow.
But for canon wartime activities, I think shades of olive drab, gray, and black, are appropriate.
White has its uses
Ah yes, snow environments.
Bad idea. Spartans don't need that.
Everything would be distinguished from within their HUD.
^^^
What if it’s for marines or ODSTs
It would likely also be in their HUDS.
Marking a Spartan as distinct above the others would make it a priority target for Covies.
They already are
There’s a reason you don’t see Soldiers/Officers looking really distinct in the modern day.
No need to make the problem worse, Chimera.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
If Netherop had been an extended wartime theater, then I could see orange Mjolnir.
Or maybe for Carrow, if that had been a planet worth defending.
I'm honestly with Chimera, let the Spartans have different colours
I’ve head cannoned that ONI ordered them to look different once they realized people knew about them.
It’s the only way I can buy it.
It's so much more exciting when the colors have a purpose and they're not merely difference for the sake of difference.
They’re not Space Marines
ONI are a bunch of weirdos, that much is true.
They’re soldiers, they have no real reason to differentiate, and I don’t think personal preference would factor in.
IIRC Grim (or a canon fodder?) mentioned that the differences happened “slightly” over time but the lore doesn’t show this.
It should show this
If they let Emile chip away at a ridiculously expensive piece of equipment, I could see personalized paint jobs happening. But Spartans like John saw Mjolnir as merely a tool, if an essential one.
Arguably all of them did.
I could also see personal customizations occur but we’ve never seen Spartans described as wanting these things.
So it seems out of place
@feral perch Well if we are to use a Fistful of Arrows, Emile chipped away at his helmet because it was damaged so he decided to add an intimidation factor to it. In this instance we are assuming a Fistful of Arrows is canon, but it currently is not
There is an alternate explanation that is canon though.
What is that?
Wouldn’t that be he added a scratch for every kill?
The skull is the result of thousands of individual scratchmarks from Covenant soldiers that Emile has killed.
yep
Hmm, that is interesting how it has evolved over time. From a regular EVA helmet, to one with over a thousand or so scratches (with a Kukri ofc)
I wonder if he had in mind the skull design from the first scratch, of if he noticed that potential design after getting into it
oh wait, it's only hundreds of marks
It’s gotta be approaching a thousand, at the minimum
Does he count explosives, or only those he’s killed with a knife?
Because that would effect it.
Probably only those he killed "man to alien" if I had to guess. So shotgun and knife most likely
Or maybe just kills he’s confirmed?
Thats basically the same thing more or less. If you're close enough to see them die, thats a confirmed kill
Interesting that confirmed kills are in abundance for Emile, whereas in modern warfare in the real world, they're not easy to obtain.
I wonder what about ground warfare with the Covenant lends itself to getting kill confirmation fairly easily, gameplay aside.
Maybe the fact that civilians and political boundaries are a much smaller factor?
And because Elites tend to scream and shoot the air when they fall over dead...
and grunt methane cylinders go skadoosh
I mean, most battles were killing zones where covenant threw bodies on a position until it drowned in blood.
Plenty of ways to get kills and confirm them there.
Mm.
MJLONIR probably helps. If that suit cant track where the bullet went and also confirm a hit...
I mean GEN 2 has hitmarkers for example
You'd only need the markers with humans.
A battle with covies ALWAYS has confirmed dead.
they literally have suicide grunts
Also its probably a case of;
"You still standing? Then you probably killed at least one. You dead? Not your problem anymore."
Also confirming kills is more important in chaotic, urban enviroments with civilians and stuff that can get in your way, since an insurgent who got away can cause trouble.
Wheras with the Covenant, well...for the most part, they dont ambush you (mostly, anyway).
They come at you screaming in heathen tounges looking to boil your flesh off your bones with plasma.
Potentially the PoA's ODSTs wearing black-colored Marine BDU with an ODST insignia. Fireteam Raven casts doubt on that somewhat
But I don't think there's anything confirmed to be non Canon in the book @versed helm , why do you ask?
Dont recall anything either, one could easily argue Raven as happening to have different gear on when the
Autumn left Reach
Well the PoA was outfitted and ready for RED FLAG, it only touched down on Reach briefly to make some quick repairs at Azsod and pick up the Cortana fragment
But yea it could just have be that ODST's don't always deploy in heavy armor, and the Black marine BDU is something they might use at times as well
Of course the real-world explanation is just that ODST armor didn't exist yet when The Flood was written haha
Same as how it describes the SOIEV's exterior burning off and opening to the air as it falls, wheras in Halo 2 we see it come down fully intact until landing
How come in halo wars two they can deploy odst pods literally right next to each other? in reality they would smash on top of each other.
Operation Red Flag: would it have worked? Whats your opinion.
Hmmmm most likely the other prophets would just let the other one rot away I mean we what truth did to mercy when they were attacked by the flood so no.
Operation Red Flag: would it have worked?```
Nooooope
Yeah there’s no chance that 🚩 would have succeeded
why didn't the covies just try to ally with humans first encounter? I mean humans obviously are connected to forerunners why wouldn't they manipulate instead of war?
because humans very existence invalidated the core Covenant beliefs
and the prophets were not about to have their gospel questioned
i don't think humanity would have accepted being a part of the covenant, anyway
some alien group comes in trying to push their religion on all of humanity? hell, humans can't agree on a single religion amongst themselves
i don't think humanity would have accepted being a part of the covenant, anyway```
They'd kinda have to
There's only one real choice when choosing whether or not to accept being part of the Covenant
the covies could ally themselves with humanity asking for tech and knowledge
then later betray humanity and know their weaknesses
What would humanity have to offer that the Covenant didn't already possess...?
yea we saw how the unggoy rebellion went
Oe just keep them as a fringe away from main covenant society
What would humanity have to offer that the Covenant didn't already...?```
Forerunner cheat codes, if they ever find out about that
EXACTALY
Otherwise, humanity being part of the Fringe is always on the table
Have a few tag along with san shyuum and huragok teams
No no on the AI
The covenant known what mendicant bias did
The Covenant would definitely be opposed to using AI
oh?
Yep
Yeah.
It's not that they didn't have AI, they just heavily limited their usage after learning about the whole thing with Mendicant Bias being corrupted by the logic plague.
I didn't know that I just assumed they were too egotistical to ask for a fake robot persons help
The covenant had AI, but refused.to craft smart ai to avoid a repeat
QUick question whats mendicant Bias?
lol
Super powerful Forerunner AI
talked to the Gravemind too long and went loopy and turned against the Forerunners
He's a Forerunner AI that betrayed them for the Flood.
The forerunner AI who was built by the forerunners.to fight the flood. He was sent out and was interrogated by a gravemind/last precursor and defectd to the flood
Yes
i think humanity is too uppity and pro-freedom to submit to the covenant at threat of annihilation
And they know of his actions
i think humanity is too uppity and pro-freedom to submit to the covenant at threat of annihilation
Nah, I don't think so.
i do
Covies could always lie
I would say as.long as they are.kept as a fringe they would be fine.
If they had to choose between extinction and being part of the Covenant, they'd be dumb not to choose the latter
Eh
looks back at WW2 and bascially all wars yeah
plenty of humans have died for freedom
It really depends on how much the covenant lean on humanity
If they ask for tithes in the form of resources, dont see a problem
it's ironic that the two arguing that humanity would be amenable to serving the covenant have covie avatars
Not like they would put them in mainline military service here.knowing the danger
Are you really that shocked Chimera?
i didn't say shocked
Well look at Britain and America.
Everyone was fine being a colonists until taxes.and other problems became too much
Soooo do forerunners have tombs? cause that seems like they would have those
tombs? sort of
All I am saying is if the covenant left humanity alone for the most part things would not be horrible
and if so why has neither side tried cloning
humanity doesn't clone because of ethics
besides the whole halo kills everything part
also technical limits
Then why wouldn't covies try it for forerunners ?
also don't act like ONI doesn't exist
nobody said they didn't exist
Halsey is the premier scientist on all things forerunner and biological
I mean the part of human ethnics
and even she couldn't make perfect clones
Wait are you asking why the covenant didnt try to clone forerunners? They never found forerunner remains for starters
Then why wouldn't covies try it for forerunners ?```
They'd kinda need Forerunner genetic material to clone Forerunners
we don't even know if the covenant had cloning technology
it may not have been of interest to them
Belive broken circle implies they do
oh I thought they were still like remains of forerunners somewhere thats why I brought up tombs
When the prophet of inner conviction and his wife were chatting on the young San shyuum women brought, she figured the hierarch would have been happily trying something distasteful like cloning
Well there.are forerunner remains here and there
the only "remains" of forerunners ever uncovered was the Didact himself
yea
Nothing fresh for cloning obviously
there isn't viable dna in fossils
Jeez I just thought of something terrifying
I never said there was, was only pointing out the covenant found no forerunner remains what so ever
what if either side had found some way of controlling the flood and if not then brokering a deal with the gravemind
not a very realistic "what if" question
I know thats why its a what if!
They tried that in The Mona Lisa, didnt work out too well.
lol
Remember the end of Halo 3, when the Flood temporarily helped Chief and the Arbiter?
And then promptly turned on them?
oh yeah
Funny enough such an attempt was considered by a group of human ai called the Assembly. They changed their minds later
this is where Boromir comes in like "One does not simply control the Flood..."
:/
boromir comes like two chapters later lol
you're so wrong
in the tavern
i'm obviously referring to the film
where the meme comes from

So is the halo movie cannon orr naw since it says Legends?
im sorry halo movie Halo Legends
Every short in Legends is canon except Odd One Out
b-but thats the best one
or rather, the events are canon, not necessarily the depiction
So I never knew g=how the covenant got the Jiralhanae to join them.
they conquered them
it was join or die for the brutes
Dumb question... Was the M392 DMR ever used during Alpha Halo (even though it's not present in CE or CEA)
Better question is why did they bother with the jiralhanae
they were dumb and strong
Likely were not any on the autumn
well I mean the nickname brute kind of answers your question
plenty of uses for a race of dumb and strong beings
Take humans for example!
well Thel wasn't a fan of the brutes so its not a stretch to think he didn't utilize them often
I doubt many sangheili did unless forced too
So when did exactly the covies recruit the brutes? cause it would sense during alpha halo conflict thel was the commander sor no brutes but were they part of the covenant then is the question?
like 50 years before the start of the war, or something like that
ok
So kind of a weird question but were there any other factions like the banished? Like ones who turned from the covenant but not like Thel if you get what I mean like still bad guy factions.
there are essentially a limitless number of convenant splinter factions
and by extension a limitless number of reasons why those factions exist
ok
So another weird one but how were covenant young teached? like on their home or on high charity and were they split or together?
very likely split by race
i doubt you'd see a classroom with elite young and grunt young learing together
true
Elites seem to train the very young at home, at least
But why the whole secret father for sangheili?
Meritocracy
hol up while I look up that word
They want all young to start on an even playing field without any advantages
Why not?
Wait
im dumb
but still I find it weird does anyone know if Thel is planning on changing that law?
It's not really a law per say
Just a tradition
One that's not even practiced everywhere
That’s what decommissioning is for
they did
They delete then after 7years of service
smart AI have kill codes and manual override codes
except Cortana, who managed to remove hers somehow soon after birth
she was more fascinated than anything
During the early years of most A.I were named after historical figures or mythological gods how come?
AI chose their own names and looks
between 3 and 4? nanobots
Eurgh
huh
yep. it's just something we have to deal with
That doesn't help explain why elites went from lvl 99 mob boss to lvl 1 thug
design wise
Juls covenant isn’t as well funded as the regular one
@gilded mason don’t fret, it was neural physics, not Nanobots!
Ah, okay! I'm happy now
Phenotype differences in the current explanation
A lot of soldiers in Juls forces are from a colony of Elites separate from Sanghelios
no
Subspecies is a bit more extreme
The covenant is a collection of different species to begin with
Phenotype is just all physical differences bewteen individuals
They have their own home planets
true
Like Drones and Brutes are different species
ok
It’s like an Asian man versus an African man, kinda.
Same species.
Just look different
... what
@honest rune has been muted for 3 days.
Reason: inappropriate
it's been handled
👍
Nah. Unless it got retconned, they are different species I'm 90% sure
They aren’t
Brutes and drones are different species, yes
Oh, thought we were still talking about Elites
Agreed
Thirded
what does 343 consider canon, the fall of reach animations or the books
seeing how different they are
Both Halo Reach and Halo: The Fall of Reach are canon. the 2019 edition of TFoR is the definitive version of TFoR, including it's comic and animated adaptations @light igloo
Bungie kind of altered the whole cannon of halo with the Reach game, and from then on, went with it.
Bungie did change a lot with Halo Reach but they at least let Nylund write Halsey's Journal to smooth things over with TFoR. Then 343i made them work even better together with things like data drops.
That is very true.
But who else is mad about how on the wrath and wrath anhur armor in h5 the kukri isn’t on the shoulder. And how Noble is symetrical.
Cuz I’m mad
It don’t look good.
I just don’t like the armour to begin with. It makes no sense as a variant.
None of Noble’s gear does, really.
Yeah, other than to get people to buy that. Because nostalgia
I think the only good armor is Indomitable Eröd.
A good armor set personally is Mako Cthonic or any of the Recon or Hellcat sets
Just forget Seeker even exists
Cuz it sucks
Certain H5 Sets are good, IMO the more garish and “out there” sets don’t fit (aka most of them), and Halo would do better without that sort of style.
IMO anyways
Agreed
I personally like Helioskrill and Helljumper
Same
Those are some of the good ones.
What variant tho
Feetfirst or normal
Prob the normal one actually
I like the normal helm and feetfirst armor
All normal for me
The only two “out there sets I like in H5/4 is RECLUSE (for the lore) and IDK, I think PIONEER is kinda cool, it makes me think of like, what Spartans could be if they weren’t warriors but more explorers.
Cool
I loved Prefect from H4
Pioneer is cool, but let’s acknowledge that any of the Foehammer sets exist.
PREFECT was cool, but it didn’t seem a good MJOLNIR variant, IMO.
Cuz the suck
Lorewise it was awesome
But it departed a bit from the established style for me. (PREFECT, I mean)
Yeah but out of most of the H4 armor I think Prefect is my favorite
PREFECT-class Mjolnir is a variant of the MJOLNIR [GEN2] manufactured by the Watershed Division. It is reverse-engineered from the personal armor worn by Forerunner Prefects.[1]
Straight from the wiki
Which made this armor cool
I’ve seen Fotus get a lot of hate, opinions?
Anyone
It's just a silly unicorn helmet, woo...
Oh wait you're talking about the Fotus helmet, ok.
I would love to see the FOTUS Helmet be used to kill someone, either because it was thrown as if it were a knife, or they headbutted an enemy with it
charging headfirst into battle a la FOTUS
Hell jumpers are feet-first, FOTUS wearers are head-first
what if a hell jumper wore a FOTUS?
but would they jump feet first to stomp, or head first to impale?
They'd stand in the drop pod upside down, with a little hole in the bottom for the horn to poke through.
please write your favorite character and why
Catherine Halsey
she is in between good and evil
she is like the stereotype of the kidnaper that falls in love with his kidnaper but it's like a mother to children relationship
with the person he kidnaps sorry
she is in between good and evil
she is like the stereotype of the kidnaper that falls in love with his kidnaper but it's like a mother to children relationship
with the person he kidnaps sorry
I wouldn't say she's a stereotype at all. I don't recall her behaviour to be that of a stereotypical kidnapper at all. Plus, she is clearly on the side of good, even if her methods are ones I cannot condone. Morally, she is very much in the wrong, given that kidnapping and raising children to be soldiers is horrible
i said you could compare it to a kidnapper
and she is only good at the end of her life
She's not dead
