The Flood as well, maybe

#

Tbf to the pin thing, that was all he had to concentrate on

#

He could focus specifically on that instead of dozens of other things

gilded mason
#

Though it seems there are also Elites with extreme reflexes and reaction times, judging by Shadow of Intent.

stoic hamlet
#

AFAWK III’s would also have it, their augmentations are the same as the II’s, just administered differently.

#

Mhm

#

It varies

#

Overall though it seems barring specific elites (aka plot) a Spartan is more than a match.

#

1v1’s seem to favour elites though.

gilded mason
#

The inverse ninja principle thing

stoic hamlet
#

Ehh, even in examples where Spartans outnumber elites they still often come out on top with no KIA’s.

#

IV’s do as well I think, in MJOLNIR, but it’s iffy

#

Because he didn’t see it

gilded mason
#

Ehh, even in examples where Spartans outnumber elites they still often come out on top with no KIA’s.
Though their overall numbers are still much less.

stoic hamlet
#

It’s not precognition

gilded mason
#

So any death would matter much more than any Elite death.

stoic hamlet
#

We don’t know if he did or not

#

If he reacted to it, he probably did

#

That, or it was a lucky catch, lol

gilded mason
#

"Aw jeez, I hope somebody got that on camera."

terse lava
#

Kinda

#

Like a faint..wind rustle

stoic hamlet
#

Well, tbf

#

If it missed his vital organs, he’d be good to go

#

At least for a few seconds

terse lava
#

He was a zealot so...likely

stoic hamlet
#

Probably not

terse lava
#

Highly unlikely

stoic hamlet
#

But he could be revived if he had been taken to a hospital quick enough.

#

*possibly

terse lava
#

You know, I wonder how precursors are born

gilded mason
#

neural

terse lava
#

Do races who long ago passed the mantle get elevated to tier 0, or just any race that reached that level just join them

gilded mason
#

||physics||

terse lava
#

@versed helmthanks sovereign

stoic hamlet
#

reeee’s

terse lava
#

Still say sangheili would have been better mantle holders then humanity though

gilded mason
#

Maybe. No one race actually deserves it, though

#

What I'm curious about is their life expectancy variation between Forerunner times and now.

#

It was 27 years back then.

#

Only 27

#

Now it's some unknown number above 200

#

I wonder if medical tech has something to do with it. Or maybe the 27 involved a whole lot of child death.

#

If they went by that stat use.

#

They're aliens

#

And can live in cold climates.

#

So probably have self-regulating temperatures.

formal imp
#

So I have a question. Did Master Chief and Cortana get to know each other between Reach and Halo 1? Cause isnt the ending if Reach RIGHT before Halo 1? Yet in the beginning of Halo 1, if I'm not mistaken, Cortana asks Chief "Did you sleep well?" "No thanks to your driving, yes." "So you did miss me." Meaning they knew each other. But. .maybe I'm thinking to hard about it lmao. But I didnt know if the events between the end if reach and halo 1 were like months or years or something

gilded mason
#

He only met Cortana on August 29

#

And then he went into cryo on the way to Halo

stoic hamlet
#

He only knew her in total for about 12 days through the entire trilogy and H4.

To him anyways, that’s the total time he knew her.

#

She obviously knew him longer

#

Seeing as when he was in cryo she was watching over him

#

But in cryo you don’t register the passage of time.

gilded mason
#

On the bridge with her and Keyes, he might've just been feeling particularly sassy.

formal imp
#

Wait I didnt really think about that. How much time passed between Halo 1-3

stoic hamlet
#

Uhhh

gilded mason
#

CE starts September 19

stoic hamlet
#

Around.....less than a month, technically

#

Well, 3 months total

gilded mason
#

2 starts October 20

stoic hamlet
#

Late September to early December IIRC

gilded mason
#

Can't say the d-word.

formal imp
#

Oops sorry lol

gilded mason
#

It happens

formal imp
#

Dang nabbit. Never really thought about it. Almost seems like years passed

stoic hamlet
#

The filter is a harsh mistress

gilded mason
#

Indeed

stoic hamlet
#

It’s because to us they did

formal imp
#

True lol

gilded mason
#

Fan perception!

stoic hamlet
#

We had to wait years for each game

formal imp
#

How long was john asleep between 3 and 4

gilded mason
#

About...4 years?

stoic hamlet
#

4 years, 7 months or so

#

But to him it would be like waking up from a nap

formal imp
#

Is it known yet how long it's been between 5 and Infinite

stoic hamlet
#

Our latest date is 2562

#

IIRC

gilded mason
#

Not yet. Though we know it's later th- yeah that

stoic hamlet
#

So, about 4, maybe 5 years

gilded mason
#

She was made in 2549

formal imp
#

I just finished Halo 5 today actually, since I never got around to beating it. But why in the latest trailer hes just floating around in space, asleep with some random dude, but at the end of 5 hes with everyone again. Unless that's the question were suppose to be asking. Like wooaahh wheres everyone. Wheres chief. Who's that??

terse lava
#

@gilded masonhih, always fiured the shortet life was purely due to them. Being too primitive. We know thanks to old guilty that the sangheili were "not as dramatic" during the forerunner era. And...if legends in this one moment can be used, they were at around iron age

gilded mason
#

Unless that's the question were suppose to be asking.
Yes.

formal imp
#

Lol

gilded mason
#

We're going in blind

formal imp
#

I was hoping at the end of 5, Master Chief and Arbiter were gonna bro hug or something

gilded mason
#

Well, in Bad Blood, they had a long chat through the night.

formal imp
#

Is that a book

gilded mason
#

Yes.

stoic hamlet
#

Why would they bro hug?

formal imp
#

I havnt read any of the books but I kinda want to. I'm a huge fan of ODST and i found out like last night there's a book that continues the story of Buck and his team. Sadly i read up on spoilers but i think I'd still enjoy reading it

stoic hamlet
#

Yay fan perception.

#

It’s a good book

gilded mason
#

John and Thel are very touchy-feely people, y'know.

formal imp
#

I dont mean literally. Just like "Chief." "Arbiter"

stoic hamlet
#

I getcha, heh.

Lot of people have an odd view of their relationship though.

formal imp
#

So wheres Buck right now in the lore? Is it just what were know from the end of Halo 5

terse lava
#

On sangheilios

#

Think 2559 right?

gilded mason
#

What year is it now in halo Ostral?
2561 or later

terse lava
#

Ah yea, true

gilded mason
#

About that, yeah

stoic hamlet
#

We know of AI who were around longer (and not insane)

#

Julianne(a?) from The Rubble was around for 15 years, I believe.

Mack and Loki were on Harvest for over two decades.

#

One shut down every 7 years so the over could take over.

terse lava
#

Dont think they shut down, really, more reduced themselves among the Jotuns

stoic hamlet
#

Yeah

#

It gave them time to process the info they had accumulated

potent cargo
#

I bet siri can beat all halo AI's

terse lava
#

Yea, though idk if they ever shared how that experience was, outside of one commenting on "sending the other on a well needed vacation" when doing it

potent cargo
#

Were the forerunners AI's limited by lifespan? Guilty Spark survived for a while but didn't he go insane by isolation

polar elm
#

How did the Covenant discover Installation 05?

polar elm
#

Also, what do Covenant and the Forerunner Dreadnought use for propulsion?

keen canopy
#

Regret found and had his servants decipher a luminary that revealed the location of I05, as well as the Ark and it's portal.

sacred dew
#

The covenant use anti gravity drives for propulsion

patent vector

weird question, but why doesn't the unsc incorporate plasma or energy weapons into their arsenal?

only evil aliens use it!

plucky yacht
#

lmao, scummy covenant

#

unsc be spittin fire like they spit lead

patent vector

this is lore

#

umm

#

hold up

#

well

#

cant send that link

terse lava
#

Humanityn doesn't make plasma weapons due to bungie wanting them to use something familiar. Lore wise, they had 300 years of peace so all advancements went towards exploration rather than war

warm ridge
#

@stoic hamlet @versed helm Other AI that are far more advanced have existed for much longer.
5th generation smart AI tend to have a much longer life span over-all.

stoic hamlet
#

I don’t believe either of the examples I listed were older than third

warm ridge
#

Kusanagi is a 2nd generation smart AI that has apparently managed to live since 2535 (and possibly before this), but was stuck on Reach in 2552. Likely got destroyed.

polar elm
#

So about anti-gravity, do they like generate gravity to move or something?

#

Found a source

potent cargo
#

Please send I would like to read that

#

@polar elm

polar elm
#

There's isn't any info on the Dreadnought's propulsion though. The Covenant used some advanced gravity tech to navigate while the Dreadnought in H2 looked like it was propelled by rocket fuel.

obsidian thistle
#

@warm ridge Kusanagi isnt canon

#

That AI living that long is 1 of many mistakes in the Interactive Board Game.

woven sparrow
#

Do I need to play HW1 or can I skip it?

#

It says I gotta play HW1 before Reach

#

And I’ve already started reach

gilded mason
#

Nah, it's fine.

#

It's only saying to play HW1 first because it comes first in the timeline.

unique rune
#

HW1 takes place long enough before Reach that it's not particularly noticeable if you don't play it

gilded mason
#

But it doesn't have much bearing on the rest of the games.

unique rune
#

Heck, I still haven't actually finished the campaign.

#

Never actually got past Arcadia City.
Hate that mission.

quaint hearth
#

im confused (nyan). did the usnc nuke new alexandria, or does glassings give off radiation?

craggy wyvern
#

glassing beams give off radiation spikes as they are preparing to fire. In the ending cutscene of NA you can see a Covenant cruiser flying overhead as noble team runs to an elevator

quaint hearth
#

why dont anyone use radiation weapons?

unique rune
#

Probably because they'd be too expensive and too risky.

One thing goes wrong and you've doomed everyone on the battlefield.

#

Covenant directed energy weapons give off some radiation anyway.

Plus older Carbine patterns used radioactive materials in their ammunition.

quaint hearth
#

just wear radiation-resist clothes, and you doom the bad guys on battlefields

deep pewter
#

There’d be nowhere to really use it, and radiation shielding is expensive as hell

unique rune
#

...

You do know what radiation protection gear looks like, right?

#

Impractical on the battlefield and clunky.

#

I'm sure the UNSC would have made improvements upon it, but it's still easier to deal with stuff like traditional ballistic weapons which are known quantities.

#

Radiation would be a mess to work with.

deep pewter
#

The MJOLNIR radiation shielding wasn’t perfect and would flicker for full seconds when hit with enough radiation, and those cost as much as a frigate so you know it had some of the best available

potent cargo
#

Are there anti-matter weapons in the halo universe? or is the strongest weapons the common ones like a nuke or a orbital mac gun excluding the halo rings

fair hazel
#

Yes. Forerunners make use of them. And in personal weapons too

versed helm
#

@potent cargo aren't the Promethean weapons anti-matter

potent cargo
#

Yea i was just about to say forerunner weapons are hardlight

#

It appears this has a become the big players table

versed helm
#

But they can completely destroy bodies

potent cargo
#

Welcome Thel 'Vadamee

gilded mason
#

Ok so can covenant weapons actually be given the ability to create singularities?
The Delta Beam Rifle.

potent cargo
#

Well if we're going scientific light does not mean it's hot

#

Not always

#

But in this case yes

versed helm
#

Hey Faber I have a question I hope you can clear up

potent cargo
#

Proceed Arbiter

versed helm
#

Why don't we see any contained forerunner infected

#

Like do they explain that in any of the books?

potent cargo
#

When the Halo's fired all known forerunners were killed and the only forerunner left was the Ur-Didact who survived through his cryptum

terse lava
#

We have seen forerunner combat forms before in halo legends and on the remake of lockout

gilded mason
#

on the remake of lockout
?

potent cargo
#

It is shown in legends due it to showing the time before the halos were activated

terse lava
#

@gilded masonthose infected creatures in the pods. Look awfully infected warrior servants

potent cargo
#

However legends is a biased based representation of the forerunners

gilded mason
#

This in the H2A version?

terse lava
#

@potent cargowell it was only a single combat form barley in feame

#

@gilded masonyep

gilded mason
#

Got a pic?

terse lava

Nope

potent cargo

Tru but still an example

terse lava
#

@potent cargofair enough sire

@gilded masoncan just go on the map and take a.look

versed helm

Well the one in the pod is probably dead because there's no movement in the pod besides the bobbing

potent cargo
#

Can still infect others though

terse lava
#

Never said they were alive

versed helm
#

As ship master would say a single spore can destroy a civilization

potent cargo

I still cannot believe my kind left some samples of the flood in the halos and expected them not to escape their fragile glass cases

Thanks for the ptsd @terse lava

terse lava

@potent cargowith respect noble one, have not archives said you routinely worked with the plauge?

versed helm

The holy prophets would kill you for this heresy

terse lava
#

I uttered no heresy

potent cargo
#

@terse lava It has been long since I have seen the parasite since my demise

gilded mason
#

Perhaps tone down on the roleplay.

versed helm
#

@potent cargo yeah it's kinda likely to stumble upon a flood ship

terse lava
#

Was just for fun, anyway they do resemble warrior servants yes?

versed helm
#

Some Marines got infected upon the Mona Lisa because an Oni sector 3

potent cargo
#

fun ruined

versed helm
#

Decided to release the paracite on the ship

potent cargo
#

Actually that brings a good question

#

after the convenant fell apart, did any specific groups still worship the forerunners?

gilded mason
#

Yes.

#

Keeprs of the One Freedom, and many of Jul's Covenant also do

versed helm
#

A few did a few humans did too

gilded mason
#

And I imagine many other splinter factions

potent cargo
#

Does that include the modern day arbiter's group?

gilded mason
#

Some probably do in the SoS, yes.

last anchor
#

Nah, I think the Swords gave that up for the most part.
If they do, they dont do it openly.

gilded mason
#

I imagine Thel is fine with it as long as it doesn't interfere with other aspects of their duties.

versed helm
#

Yeah I'm a cool dude

potent cargo
#

I would tend to agree, they practically hated the idea of submission to another species after the prophets

gilded mason
#

No

terse lava
#

The swords(and those sangheili in the banished) I would say gave gone back to pre-forunner days in terms of revenance

versed helm
#

I think the current state of the swords with the civil war wouldn't permit much active worship and I'm pretty sure the word forerunner puts a bad taste in the arbiters mouth

gilded mason
#

Seems likely.

terse lava
#

Come to think of it, how exactly were the forerunners worshipped by the Covenant and later groups? Never thought of it really before but was it more like ancient Egypt with various known forerunners more revered then others?

gilded mason
#

Didn't Hesduros worship the Didact more specifically, or something?

terse lava
#

Some fo for the didact, weapon smiths go for faber?

gilded mason
#

Perhaps

versed helm
#

@terse lava they would take artifacts and copy them

#

That's why they had plasma weapons

terse lava
#

Uh, I met how they looked on the forerunners themselves

gilded mason
#

That's why they had plasma weapons
Sangheili made plasma weapons beforehand.

terse lava
#

Indeed

versed helm
#

Wait.. How do they worship them I've never thought of that

terse lava
#

Exactly, outside of prayers and the such

potent cargo
#

I do like the current state of the elites

versed helm
#

@gilded mason sorry I'm not an expert I've read like 6 books and those are based on like rookie and chief

potent cargo
#

In my mind the SoS are noble

gilded mason
#

I'm pretty sure that's how you're supposed to view the SoS

terse lava
#

Yep

#

They are golden in my book

gilded mason
#

Though I wish 343 will actually give an actual rundown on the faction's goals/structure/policies/etc

potent cargo
#

Seems kinda biased for you isnt it

#

hehe

#

More close ups on their life and battles

versed helm
#

Also are chief and arby friends?

gilded mason
#

In a sense

terse lava
#

Sort of

potent cargo
#

They have a strong sense of respect for each other though

terse lava
#

Forged in fire allies

gilded mason
#

Though John seems to make friends fairly easily in battle, judging by him thinking of Spark as a friend after going through the Library with him.

versed helm
#

Well they've been through hell and back and chief caused thel to become arbiter to begin with

potent cargo
#

Plus he feels for the arbiter losing alot and being betrayed

terse lava
#

I doubt chief feels bad for him

#

Closest we got to that was johnson

#

Who showed a sympathetic look when thel learned the truth

potent cargo
#

He did say " I am sorry spartan"

versed helm
#

He might not even now he caused thel to get the mark of shame and become the arbiter

terse lava
#

Wernt you claiming though it was chief showing sympathy

potent cargo
#

I was i was just supporting your statement

terse lava
#

Agreed, dont think he knows at all unless told by thel himself

#

Ah ok

potent cargo
#

I do hope the chief and arbiter speak again or better yet fight together in infinite

versed helm

Thel has to know chief destroyed the ring thats he was marked because he couldn't protect the ring because 1 single cyborg was like nope no flood screw whos left on the ring boom

stoic hamlet
#

Well they were coordinated with UNSC Troops off-screen. The Flood goes into this.

While John goes for the Autumn the rest of the UNSC forces bum rush a ship and get it lifted off, but are all killed when it was destroyed......which thinking about about it was kind of dumb.,

#

Like,

#

I get there were flood aboard

#

But why not slip to a random jump point then kill them all?

#

Why destroy the ship?

terse lava
#

Because they were a rag tag group of marines who couldnt clean the truth and reconciliatio if they wanted too. Too large of a vessel. Even the covenant commandos sent on were having trouble with that

stoic hamlet
#

Then just.....vent sections of the ship?

#

Cortana was able to on Ascendent Justice

terse lava
#

Wouldn't help

#

Flood dont need to breathe

stoic hamlet
#

But decompression

#

Open a few air locks

#

Suck them out into space

terse lava
#

Thevfloodvcan survive on open vacuum

stoic hamlet
#

Yeah

#

But they don’t need to kill them

#

Just remove them from the ship.

#

If they can remove the majority, the ODST’s in their vacuum sealed armour and obviously John (when he linked up with them) could form search parties to kill the remainder aided by Cortana and Wellesley.

#

It’s not fool proof, obviously

terse lava
#

They cant rush a single flood infection form living. They are too few in number to cover a 1km vessel

stoic hamlet
#

IIRC there was still hundreds of ODST’s alive

#

Or at least a 100

#

They had their command section intact.

terse lava
#

Think around 75

stoic hamlet
#

They were rag tag compared to a usual UNSC element but they were hardly a small number.

terse lava
#

Also their command was a deluded nutjob blinded by glory

stoic hamlet
#

I’ll need to double check

#

I didn’t mean Silva specifically

terse lava
#

I know. But he was key's 2nd

stoic hamlet
#

IIRC they still had McKay as well as several other officers.

#

It wouldn’t have been hard to overpower him and have her take command.

#

Haverson as well was ONI and a Lieutenant

#

McKay was a Captain (field promoted)

#

And the troops loved her

terse lava
#

Yet that never happened

stoic hamlet
#

I’m saying it should have.

#

It I kn

#

Oof, Discord

#

*but I know why it didn’t

terse lava
#

Agreed, the covenant could pull off just getting repairs and the vessel in orbit because they had enough soldiers to clean the truth and rec deck by deck. Something the crew themselves did after keys was rescued. And if worse happened, the fleet could vaporize it. There was no good way for the major s and his troops to take care of the problem

stoic hamlet
#

Hypotheticals but nothing more, yeah.

#

Everything would have had to go perfectly

#

One slip up and it’s over.

#

I think it could have been possible

#

But unlikely to succeed

terse lava
#

Has they had no deaths on the ring, along with chief, cortana, wesley, and linda, maybe

stoic hamlet
#

I still think it could have been possible even with the numbers they had

#

highly unlikely

#

But possible

terse lava
#

When those off the problem with the newer lore that even a dead flood body can be a contamination hazard

#

Where when that book was written dead flood bodies were treated as simply a dead body

stoic hamlet
#

When that book was written ODST’s didn’t have vacuum sealed armour.

#

There’s a lot that’s changed

terse lava
#

True true

#

Honestly the best case scenario may ironically be if the covenant forces still on board were willing to help contain the flood together

gilded mason
#

🙂

stoic hamlet
#

That kind of did happen in The Flood anyways IIRC

#

They went right back to killing each other after though.

terse lava

On paper the closest we have is probably the suffix at the end of their names such as -ee which indicates service to the covenant

But it’s very broad and only indicates that they’re in the covenant military, not that they have any special position

But I’m going off what I know, it’s possible someone has more information on this than I do

Well it seems to be implied it that suffix originates in broken circle. Perhaps the various symbols on the armor

CCS are battlecruisers so dunno if they could slip in undetected

unique rune

On paper, Spartan-IIs and Spartan-IIIs are about equal. Only major difference is the augmentation procedures and the equipment they were given.

S-IIIs should even have an edge over -IIs, given the improvements made from -II as well as Gamma Company’s extra couple of augmentations.

Oh right but I cant shake the disposability of the IIIs from the covie war... they always feel inferior to IIs imo

#

@stable cedarquill-like hair does seem to be a forerunner norm. At least they don't appear to have the flowing hair humans do

stable cedar
#

@terse lava gotta say, flowing hair would not fit them well. Youd need some sort of definable nose to have human hair

terse lava
#

@stable cedarwhy?

#

Dont recall that in biology class

stable cedar
#

Having a protruding nose seems to be common for any creature with head hair. I have yet to see a creature with a flushed or flat nose that isnt bald around the site of inhalation.

terse lava
#

Curious

stable cedar
#

For example, birda have flushed noses, they are drill into the beak. Dogs and other animals with snouts have a rough piece that seperates the nostrils from the finer hairs of the muzzle. Hair tends to get places, which is why you wont naturally find an anywhere that requires sensory stimulus or is prone to abrasion.

#

Which is why you likely have shorter hairs on your elbow and the reason why you have no hair on your palms. That location was not made for it. In the case of the forerunners, it would likely be used as a sensory organ but since the forerunners lived for a long time and were open to artificial mutation, as in the case of the didact, the quills would be a vestigial trait, now used for mating and symbol purposes, much like human hair is now. It serves the purpose of keeping the head warm, but we still wear hats. Its just an unintentional side effect of having a concentrated bit of protein.

terse lava
#

Interesting

stable cedar
#

Of course, thats the conclusion I draw from watching

terse lava
#

Wait, what of the san shyuum? Their nosrd I would argue are Simon-like. Linn east in the same way as brutes or apes

stable cedar
#

They would have a flushed nose, although it protrudes, this protrusion could be from a modified cranium, since they are a bit smarter of a species. However yes, they do have a convex nose, the way they are structures and bred, there would be no need for an actual nose since they are slim and scaley.

#

And they seemed to have died out or taken refuge, so to consider their morphology would be a task of history instead of study

I've always been confused about one thing with Halo, according to some websites the standard pistol is 50.cal, and the dmr is 7.62mm...Why is it that 500 years in the future, where spartans weigh hundreds of pounds and have thick armour, along with the elites and other enemies, would the humans still use such tiny calibre bullets? We have modern guns in OUR age that shoot 7.62 and above, and have since WW2...

You'd think so far in the future every gun would shoot 50. or over bullets, because technology had advanced so much.. in reality 7.62 wouldn't even scratch ANY of the alien or spartans armour, and if it did there's a problem 😅

In the case of spartan 2s. They would have a unit badge with their distinct teams beneath since there is so little of them. However in the case of odsts, the iconiv soeiv and skull is akin to the ranger tab, not being an actual unit crest. But since the UNSC is much like armies of today, they are likely to have unit distinction. Like how the first infantry division is a one or a flaming eagles head for an aviation unit.

tired river

Would they be the same as current military units today? Like would 7th marine regiment have the same insignia as the US 7th marine regiment since according to lore the UNSC marine corps is descended from the USMC?

stable cedar

Yes, with some alterstions. Military units are like living creatures, they change as well over time. So it wouldnt surprise me that the 7th marine regiment would still be kicking it in 2557.

stoic hamlet

Well the US doesn’t exist anymore as a country, so it wouldn’t be that specific regiment, but whatever it changed into.

Right, hence the units being akin to living creatures.

Wonder if the covenant 3ver bothered creating other holy cities besides high charity

I mean, after high charity fell the covenant fell apart plus truth was very close to activating the halos. From their perspective, there would be no point in building holy cities if they were about to ascend to godhood

High charity kinda was their central hub. They built stations that were smaller than high charity but had a similar structure to it such as unyielding hierophant

There's also a 2609 date from a Legendary bonus for Reach, from a letter's date.

Plasma repeaters were unwieldly and required two hands to operate. Even having a slow cool down and a mandatory need to cool off the workings if used for too long. The plasma rifle cpuld be dual wielded and allowed for greater mobility. The cooling problem seems to be reduced by the splitting of components between top and bottom batteries. Plus plasma rifles are smaller and require less materials to make versus the carbine size repeater.

Hey guys, I need some help / clarification with something. For the past 2 months l've been doing a Halo marathon with all books, games, media, etc. read, played, watched in chronological order of the timeline. I started with the Forerunners and have FINALLY made it to August 30th, 2552 - the last day of the Fall of Reach. I'd like some clarification on the Fall of Reach timeline, since Halo Reach basically messes with the story of the book - some of the post-release edits such as Cortana splitting herself in two / the Pillar of Autumn landing in Aszod temporarily to retrieve the Package make sense to me, but others do not. For example, if the Fall of Reach started on July 24th with the early skirmishes and then erupted into full-scale battle in the Viery Territory by August 12th, then WHY does the Master Chief and no one else in the Highlands seem to know the battle is on? I read somewhere on a forum that comms were out and they didn't know that the battle was on, but still...I think if a Supercarrier and an additional fleet of Covenant ships arrived over the planet SOMEONE else on another continent would notice...

terse lava
#

Point being though, seems the gun was cast aside in favor of the newer one

tawdry galleon
#

I'd appreciate any clarifications on the Fall of Reach timeline, just so it makes more sense to me playing Halo Reach and reading The Fall of Reach

They wanted to get one last “screw you” in for TFoR*

tawdry galleon
#

Thanks, I'll go check out the Halo Canon vid

#

You really gotta give Master Chief credit - he saved the human race by turning the tide of the Human-Covenant War at the Battle of Installation 04. Like they said in TFoR: humanity had weeks or a few months tops before the Covenant would find Earth and wipe out humanity. As I've been going through my marathon of books, games, and stories, the Covenant was simply unstoppable. It had to be beaten from within, and the Battle of Alpha Halo was the spark that ignited the fire of the Great Schism.

#

Man it keeps deleting my cool quote 😦

gilded mason
#

Though Truth seemed to have been planning something for a very long time. He mighjt've overplayed his hand anyway, even without John's actions.

tawdry galleon
#

Well really when Chief killed Regret is what caused the Great Schism to start - Truth did plan for it, but when Regret died and there was a chance of a moderate prophet replacing him in the Hierarchy, he didn't take any chances and started it then

gilded mason
#

It had already started, judging by ODST.

tawdry galleon
#

Again linked to Regret - even if he hadn't died Truth was probably mad at him "jumping the gun" at Earth

@stable cedar but id assume that halo’s ai’s are a lot more advanced that what we know irl and let’s assume your right in halo 5 guardians doesn’t cortana become mildly able to manifest ideas ?

stable cedar

People like jul mdama or the guardian concept. She wouldnt be able to come up with them. Humans are literally incapable of coming up with absolutely original ideas, hence why trends and parodies can be seen everywhere. We as a race are explainers, not creators. Cortana being modelled after a human brain, she wpuld fall in the same category, she has limits and acts very human.

@deft knot cortana seems to play the role of the homewrecker of the UNSC. Chief even points out that most of the things she says are psychological tactics.

deft knot

Fair enough

gilded mason

People like jul mdama or the guardian concept. She wouldnt be able to come up with them. Humans are literally incapable of coming up with absolutely original ideas
Writers at 343 literally came up with Jul 'Mdama and Guardians, and they're humans (as far as I know).

In the Age of Ancients the world was unformed, shrouded by fog. A land of gray crags, Archtrees and Everlasting Dragons. But then there was Fire and with fire came disparity. Heat and cold, life and death, and of course, light and dark. Then from the dark, They came, and found the Souls of Lords within the flame. Nito, the First of the Dead, The Witch of Izalith and her Daughters of Chaos, Gwyn, the Lord of Sunlight, and his faithful knights. And the Furtive Pygmy, so easily forgotten. With the strength of Lords, they challenged the Dragons. Gwyn's mighty bolts peeled apart their stone scales. The Witches weaved great firestorms. Nito unleashed a miasma of death and disease. And Seath the Scaleless betrayed his own, and the Dragons were no more. Thus began the Age of Fire. But soon the flames will fade and only Dark will remain. Even now there are only embers, and man sees not light, but only endless nights. And amongst the living are seen, carriers of the accursed Darksign. Yes, indeed. The Darksign brands the Undead. And in this land, the Undead are corralled and led to the north, where they are locked away, to await the end of the world... This is your fate. Only, in the ancient legends it is stated, that one day an undead shall be chosen to leave the undead asylum, in pilgrimage, to the land of ancient lords, Lordran.

And covenant ships look like fish

stable cedar

Juat got back. The ideas for the characters take examples from previously thought of ideas in sciemce fixtion. What I mean is that if they never had the idea of the guardian, cortana cpuldnt create it if ahe was in a rampancy state, since she wpuld be overthinking. She cpuld make parodies of ideas she already has, but she can never come up with a truly original idea. So a guardian using emp blasts could originate as a super massive sentinel that uses a similar device to 343 guilty's force push in his boss battle.

Yes 343 are humans, but all ideas made come from inspirations and renditions

quaint hearth

did elites and cute grunts use guns before plasma?

sacred dew

I think the elites invented plasma weapons, and guns I think never got to the industrial stage

versed helm
#

covenant have only used plasma IIRC

keen canopy
#

Beam rifle is a particle cannon

#

Fuel rod and carbine aren't plasma

#

Blamite weapons neelder etc

#

plenty of non-plasma weapons

stable cedar
#

When the grunts were discovered, they were in the industrial age. Elites used swords as weapons during the san shyuum war

terse lava
#

Sangheili may have developed projectile weapons at some point, but they were using plasma thousands of years before the covenant. The san shyuum meanwhile only made plasma weps afywe fleeing their homeworld

versed helm
#

i didn't mean only plasma, bad choice of words

stable cedar
#

If yoi think about it. Most of the covenants weapons use gas or liquid. Plasma being a superheated gas

#

The needles of the needler are crystalline but are manifested from a gas inside the weapon. Hence why the needles shoot out the top and they are formed from the barrel in a gaseous to solid state.

#

Carbines seem operated by use of gas, launching in one direction or being a laser of sorts, same with the beam rifle.

#

And a fuel rod is basically a propane flask thrower.

terse lava
#

The carbines are solid projectile weapons

#

Very radioactive though

small geyser
#

Yeah how do the carbines work? Was always curious

stable cedar
#

It seems like a lot of covenant weapons cause radiation. Especially the stickies.

#

Do we know what the ammunition of carbines is?

keen canopy
#

What's your source for needler ammunition being gas?

#

Because in Halo CE it was just a solid crystal

stable cedar
#

Right, its a crystal at room temperature or exposed to air. One second

keen canopy
#

A control f on this page shows 0 mentions of "gas"

#

it's just a crystal man

stable cedar
#

But how does a block of crystal move through the weapon?

#

It doesnt explain exactly. Apparently the covenant has no idea how it works either

keen canopy
#

They don't know how it tracks, or identifies friend or foe

#

But the loading mechanism is pretty straightforward

#

you insert the large crystal into the weapon and it gets pushed up and split into needles

#

who knows how it fires though

terse lava
#

Only san shyuum, huragok, and sangheili weapon Smith's wood know how it truly works

keen canopy
#

The knowledge was probably lost along with the rest of the Sangheili's culture

gilded mason
#

Sangheili still know how to work weapons/ships/armor

keen canopy
#

Not as much as they knew before they joined the Covenant

#

They regressed a lot, to the point of not understanding many of their own weapons.

#

The needler is confirmed to be 100% sangheili made, no Forerunner tech involved.

#

Which makes sense, seeing as not using Forerunner tech was the entire reason for their war with the Prophets

gilded mason
#

They regressed a lot, to the point of not understanding many of their own weapons.
Sangheili engineers apparently know enough to create enhanced versions of things like carbines, plasma rifles, and beam rifles. Regarding needlers, I don't think it was ever said they lost knowledge regarding it. Though it was said that post-war Sangheili scientists have discovered new properties, at least.

stable cedar
#

I also want to add. The type 33 needler is reverse engineered from forerunner tech.

gilded mason
#

It is not

stable cedar
#

I read isnt as is. My mistake. Still, the thing is tricky. The needles may be pushed through the roof of the weapon, but a crystal cannot be made to pierce through like that unless is it reformed.
