"impedes efficacy of parasite conversion process"
i just had a horrible realization
efficacy =/= efficiency
that's the only way he's "resistant" to it
obviously he can still be infected
ye
Johnson most likely was infected by the flood on the ark after he died
it just takes a significantly longer amount of time
due to the augmentations
well the ring didnt do a normal activation
so no, it wasnt retconned
it was just explained upon
he's not immune
he's resistant
oh
also, side note, if you do the spartan laser trick on halo 3, right before the end, you can see johnson get infected by flood
for a lil silly non-canon bug, ye :p
or for double-johnson in cutscenes
that too
and the ghost johnson in halo 4
Reincarnated Johnson in Halo 5.
@versed helm the what
if you kill some marines in the 360 version of halo 4
i forget what level
i know what you're referring to
it's not ghost johnson lol
it's just a normal marine
johnson wasnt the only marine to use that cap
I remember it being Johnson
Also I have a potato tv
Ah yes the Hangar with all the Marines waiting to be massacred by a bored player
I have lots of memories about that place
it doesnt have his voice nor does it actually look like him
it's just a similar uniform
the use of the word "impede" in the context of Catalog's quote rules out any notion of Johnson having a resistance, as impede includes either delay or prevention.
no, it says "impede efficacy"
Also is the a lore reason why the hunters switched sides again in halo 3
efficacy is a term that refers to obtaining the desired result
Yes, so I stand by what I said.
delaying is not impeding if the result will still be achieved
by that logic
Captain keys impeded the flood
No known biological scaffold can delay or prevent the desired outcome
because he held on as long as he did
so that alone just nulls your interpretation
because to my knowledge
keys held on longer than any other human could have
by sheer willpower
It is still delaying, even if the desired outcome will still be reached. I'm not sure why the hell you think that for somethign to be delayed must preclude the finality of something. can you explain that a bit further please?
is there a lore reason why the hunters switched sides again in halo 3
i know they fought on the arbiters side in halo 2
but then they fought against you in 3
is there a lore reason why the hunters switched sides again in halo 3
They still did, they just didn't show the ones that did
they didn't switch sides, hunters were on both sides but we only shown on the covenants side due to game reasons
same with grunts?
Yes
would confuse players, apparently
jackals were on both as well, I believe
when used in context as an adjunct for the term 'efficacy', the term impede has the denotation of 'preventing' @dreamy terrace welcome to the english language
they were mercenaries
also why are the grunts so low in the covenant
the denotation of impede changes based on how it's used
they are some of the most valuble members
because of how they are
they have the ability to learn at lightning speeds
if it were phrased any other way, i'd be inclined to agree with you
so it doesn't take much to teach them how to use a gun
like?
human tatics
advancing the tech
i mean the grunts were able to make anti spartan mechs
they seem to be pretty smart
because remember the specific Query used the term 'immune'
@versed helm Nah, not buying it. That's absurd. You are literally trying to redefine words to suit yourself. Impede is defined as a delaying or prevention of an outcome, so when used as a verb for efficacy means that the efficacy (the ability to produce a desired outcome) cannot be delayed our prevented.
there are multiple "anti-spartan" things
look up the word yourself
this is basic english
Query Answer: No known biological [scaffolding] augmentation impedes efficacy of parasite conversion process.```
but the mechs can take on a spartan one on one
the goblins
>'immune'
this literally states it
the mech was more just a mech for mech purposes, I'm pretty sure it wasn't designed as an anti-Spartan thing
simply denying facts, or choosing to not believe them doesn't change the fact that they're still facts
it's a fact
but i mean the hunters could have replaced the grunts easily
where on that page does it say it's anti-spartan
what do you mean the Hunters could've replaced them?
replaced where?
the hunters were just as numerous as the grunts due to them being worms
they could have been the canon fotter
but they weren't because they only gain intelligence when they're a big mass, about the size of a Hunter
and they were remarkably strong
so they were shock troops because they were very hard to kill
and they were used in scarabs
and locusts, and cruisers
@versed helm @dreamy terrace what's this a discussion over? The supposed immunity of Sgt. Johnson?
it would be even more of a waste to use Lekgolo as cannon fodder than it would be to use Unggoy
@vague scroll
Yes.
he's not immune
but he does have a resistance, it was never retconned
the way that the phrasing of that was conducted it was in reference to an immunity
if there was a way to 'impede efficacy' then that would mean there'd be a way to completely stop flood's recombinant process and eventually lead to a possible innoculation
The Query individual is a fan who is asking a question toward a 343i employee who plays the role of Catalog. The use of the quoted "immune" to refer the seeming observed behavior that Johnson may have had a biological resistance to the Flood.
The response is the official statement on 343i's part, in accordance with that there is not an 'actual' means to there ever being an immunity. We have no proof of a cure or a proof of resistance. When it gets down to the simplest interpretation, it is this:
There is no official proof of resistance against the Flood, cure or otherwise. It was suggested of the possibility given the discussion provided in Halo: First Strike but that is no proof that it is an actual immunity due to any number of other situational factors/possibilities. The book, in the case of Halsey, was offering up a theory but she was testing John to see if he was willing to risk the life of his friend for the good of Mankind, Chief chose to delete the data regarding Johnson's Flood encounter because he was at risk of being dissected for possibly a dead-end search for a cure or resistance.
Catalog's response reflects that there is no known resistance against the Flood, at the end of the day.
You have species that show a greater difficulty to being infected for one reason or another: the Sharquoi, the lack of nervous system in the Lekegolo, the machinations of Prometheans, or the supposed unstable nature of Johnson's immune system from the Orion augmentations. It is not inherently stated that its an immunity, only that its a possibility of one.
That said, all biological material and all sentinet/sapient life is still capable of succumbing to Flood infection.
I hope that clears everything up.
@vague scroll did you mean Halo: The Flood
No I meant Halo: First Strike.
Halsey and John-117 spend part of the book discussing Johnson's Flood encounter.
oh, you're referring to the discussion
the way you worded it: given the encounter seen in Halo: First Strike
i thought you were referring to johnson's encounter with the flood
sorry, my bad, I meant the discussion scene
ah, yeah
i want to hear more about Nicole-458
other than the non-canon bio for DOA4, nothing's been said about her
i want red team to show up in halo infinite
i want black team to have an homage
i want jun to show up
i want to see 343 come back in infinite
ngl
he was kinda funny at times
he's retired out of the program
at most we'd simply see him in passing
Jun is Chief of Staff now for the UNSC SPARTAN Operations Branch on a secret SPARTAN-IV training facility in deep space, he made his last appearance in Halo: Bad Blood. It's doubtful he'll appear in a game for some time though Infinite is long enough that anything could change.
i also wished somehow sam survived and will show up in infinite
that's a bit outlandish
considering we're talking over 30 years in the past
so
he can survive
no
sam is dead
spartans dont die
they go missing in action
except sam and noble 6
Sam is dead, no way around that
And just about every other Spartan we've seen become a casualty.
Nope, both dead.
It's been argued to the ends of the Earth but "Word of God" already made it so.
(aka 343i said they died)
they're dead
FRICK
Plus the cut to black right before an Elite stabbed Six pretty much clears it up he took a straight energy dagger wound to a vital body part - whether that's the gut or head.
And as we know that Slipspace does tend to behave a little like wormholes, Jorge was ripped to pieces by space-time.
he could be alive in another universe then
Either way, ONI Directive 930 is a piece of junk propaganda piece that every UEG citizen knows deep down is impossible.
That's not how Slipspace works...
as much as reading Halo-Mass Effect crossovers with Jorge living can be a treat.
jorge is lord shaxx
hold on, wormholes wouldnt rip a person to shreds, black holes do that
just, based on how relativity and quantum mechanics irl works
idk how it's setup in halo
but there's a difference in how wormholes behave and black holes
Halo doesn't follow quantum and relativistic physics
to some degree it does
right but unlike the hypothetical of wormholes being a spherical hole in space that leads to another point in real space doesn't work the same way Slipspace does
I did say spherical hole
ah, ye
gots me those Interstellar vibes going
which, that movie was heavily accurate
(and very good)
Slipspace is ripping a straight tear into a higher degree of dimensions and then creating a pseudo-state of vacuum space where a starship then has to propel itself with its thrusters to continue pushing through Slipspace space under its own power
yeah
then reach another point in the Slipspace space and tear another hole back into real space...
its a weird concept
but it still manipulates space-time
so, more than likely, especially when the Slipspace bomb disappeared Jorge and a good chunk of the CSO supercarrier, its unlikely they were simply dropped into Slipspace
more likely they were torn apart because it wasn't some plugged in Slipspace jump
You know, I wish we got more from Emile. There is a story behind that skulled helmet and his gung ho additude. I know why he does it, for intimidation, but how did it all start? I guess we'll never know.
You can read the fanfiction Fistful of Arrows for some extra insight
'fanfiction' provides more insight to canon how?
He’s an S-3. It seems rather obvious how it started
@versed helm Fistful of Arrows was discussed by 343i as one of those few rare Fanfiction gems they wish they could canonize but was unable to for legal reasons
Fistful of Arrows was close to becoming canon
It's a fan comic with a high production value that addressed Jun and Halsey a bit more post the split off from NOBLE in halo: Reach
i know, i've read it as well
Fistful of Arrows doesn't show anything regarding what happened to Jun
it does, near the end
Then there is the little bit of Twitter material that O'Connor posted a while back about Jun climbing a space tether that is still canon dubious but at least offers an explanation of how Jun may have survived
coincidentally it could easily fit within the confines of Fistful of Arrows
yo frankie when are we getting Evolutions 3 with that story
It could be another Tales from Slipspace or Fractures tbf
Fractures is Evolutions 2
Technically Evolutions is Evolutions 2 because Evolutions was released as two separate books
stahp
but seriously completely forgot about that split
:3
i bought Volume 1 and 2 I think back when I still had my Ipad
part of how I remembered
Evolutions was depressing to read. Each story was a punch to the gut. Where are my happy rainbow endings /s
Fractures has some good endings
What was the difference between the two volumes?
another story iirc
Vol 2 added the Return right? And that’s basically it?
no i think it was a different story
The new stories Soma the Painter and Wages of Sin were added to the Volume I and II editions, respectively.
What’s up guys! I’m new, looked this up on Reddit but wanted some more confirmation from lore guys. I’m wanting to know everything there is on Harvest and the initial contact with the covenant. What are the materials I need to cover ? I already read Contact Harvest. I know there’s a comic that came with the limited edition of Halo Wars. Anything else?
Halo Wars Genesis is on the Halo Waypoint site: https://content.halocdn.com/media/Default/community/blogs/hw_genesis_comic-c7f57bd788e44faea4860178b99c999a.pdf
Read any corresponding articles you can find on Halopedia, they'll fill you in on what you're missing or tell you what materials you want to read into.
Bit of stuff in TFoR too. Mainly people discussing Harvest.
Book would be preferred.
Agreed
Also, Halo Wars and the related data would be useful, since you spent the first three missions of the first Halo Wars fighting on Harvest
I'd like to imagine what would've happened if ancient humans had not lost against the forerunners
Instead defeating them
And surviving all the way up until the current era within the lore
Flood would still be a thing
Barely lol
I doubt that ancient humans would make something as powerful as the halo rings
Without a way to stop the flood... I don't know
There would small pockets of them here and there (assuming humanity defeats them). There wouldn't be a gravemind so they'd more feral than normal flood
Flood vs tyranids?
I believe its stated that ancient humanity was slightly more powerful than the forerunners
It's true that I don't really remember what was the flood infection state during the forerunner-human war...
Weren't they missing to fool the forerunner, making them thinking that the humans destroyed one of their planet for war and not to kill the flood ? If that's the case, to be so intelligent, it would mean that there already were a gravemind
I should check again but as I remember that's what happened
The infection quickly spread through both human and Forerunner space. Attempts to quarantine infected worlds and systems failed, leading to the Flood soon infecting hundreds of worlds in fifteen systems.
According to Halopedia
And this was before the human-forerunner war.I guess that a gravemind would exist at this state
That's an oversimplification.
The Gravemind is pretty clearly an entirely non-physical entity that can inhabit flood keyminds - there was no "first" gravemind, simply a first keymind that whatever the Gravemind is inhabited.
The basis for its consciousness may come from the Primordial, but I'm not certain.
I'd need to re-read the Forerunner books to make a decent call.
Science question...are voids infinite?
tbank you so much!
How do halos have atmospheres
You know how instead of having airlocks, the Covenant (and later on, the UNSC as well) have particle fields that maintain pressure but allow solid objects to pass through? @versed helm
That, but on a grand scale.
They presumably got the tech from Forerunners in the first place.
Oh cool
Ya
@versed helm halos are so massive, and made to inhabit life, so they have a similar gravity and atmosphere to earth’s. This can be confirmed by seeing marines or elites without any sort of breathing apparatus on the rings in the games.
Unrelated, but you know how in halo 5’s armor customization, they have older variants of armor seen in reach and such? Wouldnt those be considered variants compatible for SIVs considering that all the spartans in multiplyer are modeled to be SIVs?
The older armor is essentially ported over to GEN 2, so yes
Imagine if Spartans wore something similar to a purity seal
They kind of do? Spartans do get medals, same as any other UNSC soldier, and even civiilians. Chief earned every single one except the POW medal for example.
What would they write on a theoretical purity seal tho
What's the pow medal
Prisoner of war
I dont think many of those were handed out during the Covenant war...
I said "many". Technically Ellen Anders would be given one.
Not very common tho. Most UNSC prisoners either ended up tortured to death, eaten, or both
It's real but not exactly functional.
Okay so I do got my facts right
I know it's real but it's not fuctional because the Infinity took a lot of resources to make and making the eternity requires the same amount of resources
Also tbh
She was like half-finished then Infinity got beat up over Requiem so they cannabalized parts from her to repair Infinity
Johnson should have like 3 pows
I would assume that the pow medal would be one of the rarest to give out, as most captured soldiers were eaten or executed. But there are some; for instance, some marines in the HW series, johnson, anders, miranda keys(halo2)..
Oh, and soldiers as well as autumn crew and keyes in CE
Well that’s cause they needed Miranda
And Johnson
So is the ark the largest object in the Milky Way?
Installation 00 is extragalactic, so... not in the Milky Way.
Pretty sure Trevelyan is bigger anyway
Sarcaphagus/Trevelyan/Onyx, whatever you wanna call it
Just curious how does blue team get to argent moon in halo 5. Obviously the pelican is not equipped with slipspace so did infinity drop them off a few hundred miles away or something?
Yeah, essentially
Osiris didn't have a Condor, they had a Pelican
I was under the impression that the main distinction was the presence of a slipspace drive
They obviously had one to escape the Guardian
Calling it a Pelican can be chalked up to a colloquialism
they were definitely not in a Condor in Meridian
they just flew away in a pelican, then the Guardian left
but ye, Condors are significantly longer than a Pelican
There be no Condors in Halo 5.
There is a Condor in Halo Nightfall (It's introduction to the series)
However they are yet to appear in any mainline Halo game
They only prominently appear in Halo Wars 2
anyone know what the forerunner structure on Reach was?
The ship stuck in the Babd Catha ice shelf?
was it a ship?
didn't look like one
Well, yeah, if you could only see small sections of a ship, it wouldn't look much like one.
well if you actually look like it it looks like a ring
nothing like a ship, it is a big enough section to discern
Considering most of it is still hidden inside the glacier... I don't think that one section is enough to determine if it's "ship-like" or not.
so there is no like actual concept of the full ship itself?
Halopedia doesn't seem to have any, and I've never come across any browsing ArtStation, so I doubt it.
RIP
Trevelyan is huge
So nice detail in Silent Storm - John getting his rank, from || the man he thought was initially betraying him and his Spartans ||
@junior dome Warfleets also mentions a Forerunner crystal resonance chamber was found within it
Trevelyan's diameter is literally the distance from the earth to the sun
Doubled
And also far larger than anything else in Halo
Except maybe star roads
None of them left tho
Yeah star roads
But in terms of forerunner tech trevelyan is such an outlier in terms of size
To be fair, its one of the few ones that have wierd stuff
Anyone knows how a pelican will win a dogfight against modern jets? xd
That’s like asking if pelicans would win against longswords
Countermeasures. Hardened armor. Exoatmopsheric capable engines
Or it can just slow down and avoid the jet, which has a super high stall speed (as all jet fighters do), whereas the Pelican...literally has none, being VTOL capable and nonaerodynamic
Ye
My money would be on its obsurdly powerful countermeasure suite though.
"Bold words for someone in mass flare, chaff and EM spam range."
People at spacebattles said uhhhh they are faster than like f22 and their weapons are well yeah gee gee xd
But still a pelican is a multi role versatile transport thingy
Thats Spacebattles. They've got quite the interesting group there.
But they are in fact right. Pelicans are cross-enviromental. Exoatmospheric and back without need for boosters.
By fighter standards, their weapons are heavier, yes. The nosegun is far bigger than even the GAU-8 on the A-10, and the missiles are variable, plus the Laser on the one from Halo 4
@last anchor thanks fam for explaining xd
thats cool. I find Halo 3 and Reachs laser to sound much better. More oomph and splash.
yeah, but halo 4's was heavily just...'screaming death' same build up with a bit more tech, then just the chamber release and -splash- then cooldown
cause let's be honest
lasers arent gonna make a boom of have much oomph to them
unless you're on the receiving end
I like halo 5 A bit idk why don't hate me man
It's got really good bits
And really bad bits
And it works out even
The Created are, as far as I am concerned, a stroke of brilliance marred by some fairly horrible writing decisions.
Osiris are really likeable but don't get enough opportunities to develop
Bringing in Blue Team was one of the best things 343 could've done, and treating them like Chief by not letting us see their faces either is really classy, but we don't get enough time with them
etc etc
That's why I hope they return for Infinite. Keep their helmets on, let them be as true to their characters as possible but give them more time to really be shown of as to why they are beloved characters and I'll be happy
Hey, where can I learn more about installation 07? I was watching videos about how Infinite will take place on installation 07 (or zeta Halo of I'm not wrong) and I heard that it has a really interesting lore so I'm interested
Halo Primordium
Ok thanks
is master chief a virgin
🤔
probably? seems like a bit of an out of nowhere question
When you consider the fact that he was probably trained at a young age yeah I doubt there had been time for him to have sexy time
I like how the most recent comment got deleted lol
🤔

I just realized in the infinite trailer that the crashed pelican cockpit looks more like the older models (from halo 3-) rather than halo 4+, because the seats are parallel instead of vertically stacked.
Now im wondering if 343 just went back and redid the design or the pelican could actually be an older model..
that could be for various reasons
HE IS a virgin
How would you know
Keep it appropriate
So in halo 4 the prometheans where blue for the librarian and orange red for the didact so now that they are under Cortana’s control does anyone think there will be a design change like that present in halo infinite?
the prometheans in 4 were blue under the librarian's control
oh, wait. i read that wrong
i thought you said blue and orange for didact lol
it's hard to say
in 5 they were mostly under the Warden's control
so they remained orange
Yeah
But the warden reports to Cortana and now with the presence of the guardians some militant changes for the prometheans are bound to happen I’d say
Rather than assume they'd go back to blue under Cortana, I think the color rather indicates which caste they are serving
Librarian was a Lifeworker, while Didact was a Warrior-Servant
I believe Cortana and the librarian conversed at one point
(though i'd expect Lifeworker's color to be green, but w/e)
hmm...i really wanna know what it would look like functioning under a Miner
Yeah the builder caste
um
builders were seperate
builders have always had the blue though, so yeah, i kinda feel lifeworkers should have been green
I think they weren't made green because that colour is often associated with friendlies
Ok so how can it possibly be said that grunts breathe methane
Because they come from a planet where life evolved to breathe methane opposed to oxygen like life on Earth
Speaking of Covenants species, it's impressive that the Lekgolos are at Tier 3 of the technological achievement tiers, it is something you do not expect seeing them.
I'd like to learn more about them
I think they have like 6 hive forms they can take like the mgalekgolo form and the scarab form but thats about all I know
In theory they can take every form they want; the one we see in the games are the most useful combat-wise.
In Halo Wars 2 for example we see them in a 'wall' form
Yeah the lekgolo worms themselves can work together to take forms but specifically colony wise there are six distinct forms
Alien worms are way to effective in combat
lol
No the lekgolo wall form in halo wars
The untold alternate histories of Halo Reach, Combat Evolved and pre-Halo 2:
After being sent into slipspace Jorge killed the rest of the elites on the Covenant corvette and forced the rest of the aliens to do his bidding. Jorge then was able to get out of slipspace and came back to Reach in time and rescued Noble 6. They then followed The Pillar of Autumn and were able to rescue Linda-058 and a handful of other soldiers, then met up with the friendly Elite and Johnson. They later found 343 Guilty Spark which they used to help create a splinter group from the Covenant. After the group got started, the aliens and 343 stayed on a forerunner gas mine they found, while the humans returned to Earth.
What other races are a part of the Covenant Fringe anyways?
The only one we got so far is the Yonhet, and they look like a cheesy Star Trek alien
@clear widget All of what you said is untrue, Jorge is dead, the legendary ending of Halo CE is not canon and the Elites seen in Halo 2 found Spark when he arrived at Threshold in the aftermath of 04's destruction, without any human involvement. Not to mention that Linda was picked up by Chief and Cortana after the events of CE during First Strike
likely will finish Silent Storm in the next two weeks
Heh, that's why I put alternate histories.
Sayyyy with the Cortana as the leader of created doesn’t that mean shes the most powerfull ai? Orrrr even with all what she done its not enough to compete against contender/metarch class ai?
@tawdry mason https://content.halocdn.com/media/Default/BlogPost/community-update/HaloWars2/[rm]rostercard_lekgolo_walls-8d28d39f464848688d32063f6c37e92d.jpg The Living Wall; it's an ability of Colony, the Lekgolo leader
The metarch AI are so much more powerful than her.
She can be in control of the military, but the metarch were in control of everything
This without talking about precursors AI, the forerunner said that, in comparison, their Ancillas were like a wooden boat against a space ship
UNSC vs the CIS (Confederacy of Independent Systems), who wins?
CIs have the numbers but unsc have better stuff.
The clone wars have begun
The UNSC would also have to track down and eliminate several Sith lords, Count Dooku, Darth Maul, and General Grievous
Ventress will also join the fight
This isn’t the place for this stuff........again
No it is
What if hypotheticals seem out of place to me. Go to /r/whowouldwin, or spacebattles for that.
Idk, just my opinion
I thought of a new UNSC ship called a dreadnought
Its larger than a halcion cruiser
It would be the UNSC equivalent to a star destroyer
Already kinda exists in form of the Punic Supercarrier
Heck, the halcyon is only 400 metres shorter than a Star Destroyer anyways
Most UNSC ships are. Anything bigger than a frigate for the most part
^
I think the Halbard is like...200 maybe?
Its over a klick long.
Star Destroyers are only 1600.
Yeah Star Destroyers aren’t that big really
Out of what we are currently discussing, is it possible that noble 6 survived halo reach?
He dedder than Fed
more like a "broken glass" right now Noble-6
*ded
Now I’m sad. All my favorite characters except the arbiter are dead
RIP.
Like better, not dead characters
Well I mean, he could’ve escaped the elites he was fighting, and hid in a cave during the glassing
he could've, but he didn't
We see the kill shot
Or dagger shot, if you will
That gif is everything you need to know about Six right now
beesides, what would hold Noble-6, if all his team was dead, except Jun?
Well he might be useful to the infinity crew since they’re picking up important people
he’s dead, ffs
Not much a single S-III can do when Infinity can spam S-IVs at any problem to make it go away.
UNSC marines vs stormtroopers
marines win
If he survived (not saying he did) he was on reach with all this forunner equipment and he did carry Cortana at one point
Anyone could carry Cortana, doesn't suddenly make them a super important person
ye
^^^^
Could a blaster bring down a Spartan's shield?
Like, I could carry Cortana, Michelle could carry Cortana
Ig your right
Blasters from Star Wars are basically use like the Covenant plasma weapons
Just means I carried her
ballistics can bring a Spartan's shields down
But it takes a. Lot of ballistics
any form of energy, really
Same with lightsabers and energy swords, same tech, different way of shaping the blade
^^^
Impacts from fists will do it too.
TBH a lightsaber might have more of an issue since they seem to bounce off other magnetic fields
Which is pretty much what MJLONIR shields are.
I feel like Halo is a more realistic version of star wars
No kidding
Imagine halo with star wars music
I miss halo 2 anniversary’s music
I can imagine the star wars theme playing before every halo game
not that hard to imagine Halo with Star Wars music
just, get a video of Halo
get Star Wars soundtrack
done
^
Its been done.
Several times
^
Ok who wants to talk about halo infinite theories?
...
Chats dead
Like the rookie :’(
It happens
If they end the series there the fanboys will march on Redmond.
killing Arbiter I feel would be a very bad move
And a fricking sad one
I feel it would be more bad than sad
@versed helm Tartarus Boss Fight with “Duel Of The Fates”
Lolol
How would they kill Palmer though? She doesn’t have the emotional background to give an emotionally rousing death, like Johnson. And for those who do believe that she does have the capability to improve, they’d get upset at her death.
But no
I long for the day people stop saying "kill [X character] because I don't like them"
I say troll the haters by putting Palmer through several near death situations but have her come out of each one by the skin of her teeth.
And then give her a medal at the end, for bravery or something
clearly the solution is to have Palmer kill Chief and become Halo's main protagonist for the next 20 years
Just make her likeable again
a good way is for her to become frienenemies with Halsey
She shoot her only once, how is that not frienenemy?
Would you say Halsey is likable?
and maybe that's what Palmer should be
Yeah, Halsey is likeable in Eric Nylund's books
I'd rather know Palmer than Halsey, considering what Halsey has done for the Spartan programs
Halsey is arrogant, thinks she’s smarter than everyone else and let’s them know it, unapologetic, and can be vindictive
Yet she’s likeable
So how can Palmer not also be likeable despite having some negative personality traits?
She doesn't have the charm that Halsey has.
I guess that’s up to the viewer
are you like
How is she a Mary Sue?
stuck on that bit about flawlessness?
Neither of them are perfect charectors
Why don’t you articulate what exactly about Palmer makes you not like her
Was it something she did or said?
Granted I dont think we know much of Palmer to define her as a distinguished charector
Most of the time people say they hate Palmer because she insulted the chief and insults smart people
When did she insult the Chief?
Exactly
Sort of. Her attitude towards Halsey, the fact that she was promoted to de facto leader of Spartans for being a tough ODST (really? is that it?) and the way her character generally holds herself
People call her “I thought you’d be taller” line an insult
I guess you could saythe time she said to Chief that she thought he'd be taller but I don't think that's an insult i think she was just being cocky or just joking around really
@feral perch do you hate Osman?
No. I'm indifferent towards Osman. I don't hate either character though, I never said I did.
I can see many parallels between Osman and Palmer
Which one's osman?
I certainly prefer Kilo-5 Osman to ONI Osman though
Both versions are pretty disgusting people to me.
There's something about higher-up authority figures that's less "fun" in Halo.
I mean
Lasky was good until they turned him into a sad sack in Halo 5
Oh her. i don't know much about her to say that she is a charector or a valuable charector to the Halo Universe. But granted I havn't read all the books
:/
I like Lord Hood more than ONI Osman probably because he's less involved in questionable activities
and more than that
Through Halo 2 and Halo 3, he was a kind of important, guiding presence
What do you mean questionable activities?
I mean i would say Miranda keys was more important than him personally
Osman is just an ominous, rarely-present figure in Spartan Ops and I guess Escalation
Yeah, Miranda was a bit of a dunce sometimes though
But Lord Hood was also a jerk during the ending cutscene of Floodgate
and his reckless actions negated the Spirit of Fire's chances of rescue, too
I mean I would count that more of storytelling than anything though
sure, but, all of it is storytelling
No i mean not great storytelling. Like doing something I don't think the charector would do but the writer did it anyway to the charector
That happens a lot in famous books. I really don't like it. Like it seems that the writer just doesn't know the character but they do it anyway to either make the character more interesting or to further the plot in a different direction
cough cough zac Snyder making Batman kill people cough cough
Try Tim Burton
I’m okay with batfleck killing.
Yeah but Tim was less “in your face” about it
It suits that Batman
True
It makes sense for his character and what he’s gone through
It doesn’t suddenly mean every Batman is “ruined” as some people believe
Batfleck was essentially Dark Knight Returns Batman, who while being more brutal, still didn’t kill
My point stands, it suited his character, and there’s nothing wrong with his character taking that route.
Let’s look at it this way: there’s a new film coming out called Brightburn, I think.
Essentially it’s Superman as an evil kid. Obviously it’s not named as such but I mean. It’s obviously the intention
And I don’t see anyone disliking that
It's not actually Superman is it?
Reason being: it’s not superman, so there’s nothing wrong.
So why can’t the same be said of this Batman?
No
Is it an animated flick?
It’s not DC affiliated
No it’s live action
But like, it’s literally the origin of Superman, except he’s evil.
I personally liked BvS. I thought it was a good movie
Nothing great, but a good movie
I really enjoyed Justice League
I see that movie gets an undue amount of hate
But Batfleck I go back and forth on him killing. Cause I mean he has done it in the comics a ton though. And no Im not meaning when he first started (cause he did kill back then like it was no tomorrow) but he has killed past that
I disliked Justice league for certain parts and enjoyed it in others
I’m of the mind that if it makes sense for the character there’s nothing wrong with it. People, especially creators are allowed different interpretations of things.
And Batfleck killing made sense for his character
AngryJoe put it in a good way. Man of Steel and BvS are just in a different multiverse and its just a multiverse story
^
I go back and forth on batfleck killing people
But in a multiverse story then its ok
Like Batman has killed before. Read Death in the Family. When the Joker killed Jason Todd Batman went to find Joker and when he found him they fought and then they went on a helicopter. The helicopter was going down and Batman had a chance to save the Joker but he looked at him and then saved the piolet and the helicopter crashed and Batman didn't care
Brightburn looks interesting but the key there is that it’s not actually Superman. It’s just Superman-inspired
If they paraded it as an actual Superman tale, I don’t think that it would go over well
That’s why batfleck was jarring to me: because this was a take on Bruce Wayne Batman, not some Batman-inspired other hero
Ok its a multiverse story. Done.
I get it. I mean I liked the movie BvS but then a friend of mine just said to call it a multiverse story and then I really liked it then
That’s a pretty shallow excuse though
Especially when there are much better elseworlds renditions of the character
OK fine. They are shallow or ok canon movies but pretty good multiverse stories there
But there’s no consistent canon, so there’s nothing wrong
Thats what Im saying. So it doesn't really matter
Yeah
Each Batman and Superman has its own canon story in each of their respected series
There is a formula to characters that makes them who they are, even across the multiverse
There is a reason most batmen in the multiverse don’t kill
You know there is a batman as a bat or something like that and he kills people right? Superman just look at injustice. He killed the Joker and many other
Yeah but they set it up in a way that for me was believeable
Which one was believable?
Injustice Superman
How?
They went a direction where he lost everything by his own hands due to the joker
Also Red Son
They gave him a scenario where he was enflamed by vengeance and unlike Bruce, was consumed by it
With Batfleck, nothing happened to him that didn’t also happen to other Batmen and they didn’t go over the edge
Losing a robin to the joker? Check
Being old and jaded? Check
You mean when joker blew up Metropolis right?
But how did these things happen? It’s possible it was far worse for batfleck than others
I mean when Injustice Joker made Kal kill Lois and their son
Before blowing up metropolis
Ah. Well i mean they have died before
@stoic hamlet we don’t know because they don’t go into it
Maybe not by his own hand sure but they have died before
If you want me to suspend my disbelief, you need to provide a reason
That’s what I mean. It could be that stuff was way worse for batfleck
We don’t know if it wasn’t, but we don’t know if it was either
That’s to big a “could be” to leave to imagination, IMO
I mean, they weren’t going to
Not for something so integral to a character
But then the solo Batman movie was canned, IIRC
It should have been in BvS
they still are making a solo Batman movie though
A lot should have been in BvS
Not by ben affleck yes. But by a diiferent person
But it didn’t need to be
Not for you
We got enough I think to at least hint how bad things got
But for me, it was necessary
You wanted them to spell out his entire alternate origin and how stiff got to that point in a single movie that wasn’t even entirely about him?
That would just bloat the movie
To explain why he’s ok killing people? Yes
YEAH another origin film
They explained it though.
Alfred said something to the tune of “that’s how it starts, good men turn rotten” or something
That’s still not enough
Implying with time Batman slowly diluted his morals
ESP considering that Alfred stuck around
Granted though can we all agree that the joker in the bvs universe sucks right?
Sure
There we go. We agreed on something
Well I wasn’t trying to convince anyone to think my way. I was just explaining my feelings
I understand. Neither were we. We were also just explaining why we think Batfleck is not as bad as everyone says he is. Tio which you don't agree. Which is ok
Oh yeah no. I just like to have cival debates with people
its cool to get to know the other sides opinion
I don’t think hood falls in the same category of writers just changing a character because they can, though, because unlike with Batman, we don’t have tons of pre-established lore to base him off of
So I don’t see anything he did in Escalation as being that “out of character”, simply because he didn’t have that much character to begin with
And what character he did have didn’t prevent him from making questionable calls
Did people call him Lord Hood because of his ranking or is his name Lord.
Lol stupid question
I have had a question about a one off line from Halo Reach for a while, but when Jun mentions spartan teams being deployed for civilian evac ops he mentions 3 teams: Gauntlet, Red, and Echo.
Would that Red Team be the Spartan IIs that landed on Reach with Chief, or another Spartan III team?
Ah
He apparently is a British nobleman, in addition to being a fleet commander
@fluid vapor Wasn’t Red Team on the Spirit of Fire at that point though? This is a complete shot in the dark, but I would assume there might have been SIIs on Reach if Halsey didn’t even know Noble team were SIIIs at the time.
@radiant sphinx that was a different Red Team. Throughout the Books many different Spartans were part of Red Team, but in The Fall of Reach, Chief and pretty much every Spartan II still alive dropped to the surface to defend Reach, they split into 2 teams (if my memory serves me right) and one of the teams was called Red Team.
I think every branch have a different red team?
Uh so why did Halsey join the covenant
She had a crush on Jul.
Sangheili have different lifespans. He was the equivalent of, like, a 40 year old human or something.
Also can the flood procreate
I mean, they make more of themselves. So yeah.
Also uh how long do grunts live
I mean, the flood procreate by converting biomass btw
They don't procreate in any sense recognizable to an ordinary species. Fundamentally, because the Flood are the Flood super cell (in tandem with the outside influence of the Gravemind), their method of reproduction is simply cellular conversion and mitosis.
And grunts have relatively short lifespans, I seem to remember.
From Legacy of Onyx I think. Though don't quote me on that.
Also humans don't live that much longer in Halo, as the lore stands
We've never had a character besides Johnson's aunt actually die of old age, but Halo Waypoint says our average span in Halo is 90.
Johnson himself is a unique case because he is both a UNSC Marine and a Spartan-I
And subject to both extended periods of cryosleep and biological augmentation
So his actual age isn't representative of his biological age
Master Chief vs Emperor Palpatine, who wins?
Ewoks.
well master chief can yeet a grenade at palpo so he wins
Don't force users just by default win against non force-users?
Unless plot reasons dictate, in the case of Grievous or whatever
If Palpatine couldn't just meme him with a force joke or whatever, obviously Chief would beat the stuffing out of him
Noble 6 survived reach
force choke ez
To be fair, the Didact did pretty much have the force
Noble 6 didn't survive Reach
I was gonna say... pretty sure N6 died on Reach
Unless you have sauce saying otherwise? @merry cairn
probably don't, there's a bunch of people that say 6 survived cause they don't like that he died
To be fair.. I had been really hoping if we held out long enough on that last mission we might get rescued or something 😛
But alas..
Might've been a cool 'Legendary ending' though..
He 100% survived reach.
It would be hilarious to see 343i entertain that theory with an animated short and have it end with Six getting glassed
He 100% didn't survive Reach
^
Six survived Reach's onscreen events only to get killed by some random Grunt's plasma pistol potshots immediately after
gets up, runs to a building, shot by a grunt
random headshot from a Jackal with a needle rifle in a phantom flying past
*Zealot
it was a Field Marshall
which is a sub-type of the Zealot class
so, technically, a Zealot
only have the wicked religion cause the san'shyuum tricked 'em
Imagine if halo became more like star wars
or not
Yeah
because I like Halo, and not Star Wars
so I'd like it stay as Halo
But one is very militant while the other is more magical
more like star wars how
im personally not a fan of star wars either
like, the movies are ok, but everything else is just...eh
Halo is it’s own entity and should definitely stay that way
Read the Darth Bane books. they are really good
i think its called path of darkness
Its great
Plaguis is also great though now non-canon
true
Imagine if ancient earth in Halo was similar to WoW or Dragon Age where humans, elves, and dwarves all lived together
The ancient dwarven texts reference the forerunners as "Gods"
yeah... pretty sure anything like that is covered in already established lore.. which says nothing of the kind happened. interesting idea though
Humans are the most widespread race throughout ancient earth, dwarves live near the mountains, and elves live in the forests. Then there are orcs that are more of a nomadic race that have no native land
Six survived reaches glassing and the covenant
Dwarves have the most advanced race since they salvaged abandoned forerunner tech and used it to better themselves
He died due to testicular cancer
Dragons also exist in ancient earth
343 halos aren’t canon it’s master chief dreaming in cryosleep
What if ancient earth in Halo was similar to the Warhammer fantasy universe. There's endless wars between humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, trolls, and skaven
Ancient Earth already exists in Halo lore
with Ancient Humans
you're thinking of AUs, alternate universes, which are primarily for fanfictions
It would be cool seeing a fantasy setting for ancient earth in Halo
Characters like Master Chief would come from a bloodline of mages
The forerunners created orcs as a means of keeping humans in check
They made orcs unstable and war-like
no don't
I think they tried that with an easter egg in FAble
orcs and mages are not required in a fantasy setting
When ft did we start talking about d&d?
Sniper brought it up. He seems to like crossovers
No
comparing halo to completely unrelated or incomparable items is getting old and annoying at this point
I know
I know too many nit-picky a-whipes who dis halo cause they grew up being babied on CoD
i was just talking about lore
not even gameplay
at most compare it to things that actually exist today, since they could be considered a direct evolution
that's basically all you can compare it to
since there's actual grounds for comparison
I highly doubt that we will have super soldiers to Chief's extent but I do believe that within the next century we will have some form of super soldiers
i mean, it is 500 years from now
I still doubt that
Think of it. It took over 4000 years before cars were used on a massive scale
honestly similar procedures are available as is, they're highly unethical due to the risk and not being passed by any governing body, and they arent quite as efficient
And do you ever stop to wonder why?
We already have supersoldiers.
They're called SEALs
yeah, no
Those guys are humans pushed to their limits
SEALS would be the equivalent of ODST
Currently the closest thing to a super soldier is a SEAL
I have a large plot twist
and pitting a SEAL against a Mossad agent it becomes heavily evident
Kurt is Alive
SEALs are not the best
And he changed his gender and is now known as Atriox
there's many comparables
And they all level out and specify certain things
and SEALs are far from pushed to the limits of human capacity
being heavily trained doesnt equate to 'pushed to the limit'
you know there was a show where they took normal people and put them through SEAL basic training for a month. They all broke on day 2
again, it's mental as well as physical
hence why you cant just sign up for the SEALs immediately after enlisting
Oh yeah because I could walk right out of recruitment and become a SEAL
but again, some places enact far worse training regiments on far less developed people
And you don't think I know this because what?
it doesnt matter if you do or dont
objectively SEALs are not 'pushed to the limit'
they also require the mentality and resolve to actually want to become a SEAL
Then I don't care. No normal person can deal with that kind of training for very long. That's my point. Compared to us they are super human
compared to SEALs
AF ParaRescue units are more well-trained
they're just trained in slightly different areas
Dude get this. I really don't care.
then why bring it up? why even make the point
no sense in fanboying over something just for the sake of it
I wanted to end this like 30 texts ago but someone would keep insisting that people who are basically giving their lives to protect our sorry asses are not "good enough" to be considered some of the best
You kinda did many times
but you specifically stated 'pushed to the limit'
c'mon
and were 'the best'
they're some of the best, but there are equivalents in other military powers
In the Current US military they are.
I don't think that super-soldiers in the United States will exist for a long time, probably for ethical reasons
Well debateable
JSDF's SFG are pretty good, Israel's Mossad, india's got a pretty hardcore special forces as well
SAS, etc
Basically anyone in Rainbow Six Seige at this point
True
RB6S is so unbelievable lol
also, technically you're only thinking of DEVGRU
(Seal Team 6)
Delta Team and ST6 are the US`s only 2 Tier-1 SOF groups
Lone Survivor was a good movie
Anyway, I wonder if we'll see a new Battle Rifle model in future installments
BR90 anyone?
BR85A1 XD
We need more powerfull ars for spartans maybe who knows that uses higher calibers like 20mm ar xd
Imagine if humans, elves, and dwarves coexisted in a long forgotten age as an untold story in Halo's lore
no thanks
Only if you start its inclusion in the series off with a GATE-style apocolyptic assault.
Bows and arrows? Meet Kodiacs
This part of history would be known for it's wars and long-lasting conflicts
You mean longer than whats already going on in Halo?
After the forerunners defeated ancient humanity
Yeah thats impossible.
What happened was; we got smoked, we got devolved, we re-evolved to early metal era, Flood war happened, we got wiped out on earth by Halo, reseeded, we went through recorded human history.
No magic.
The magic part could be genetic mutations
Magic has no place in Halo. Its not needed.
Besides. Magic holds no candle to meat wrapped in titanium-A
Never has, never will.
People with "magic" could be seen as threats to society. There would be an order of Templars that are constantly at war with mages
Mate, if you want to keep this up, take it to a fan server.
I legitimately dont think anyone cares.
The only Templars Im intersered in is the Black Templars, and they wouldn't be at war with mages, they would be shoving power blades into every oriface they could find
Deus Vult indeed...
Needler is magic
It would be cool if there was a Templar order in the current lore that's sort of like a pro human extremist group
It exists. Its called Sapien Sunrise
Their leader's head was crushed by Chief's boot after he came in, slaughtered his supporters, took the person they had kidnapped, and then left.
Not a scratch on him.
Its all in Hunt the Truth
Ya know fam there’s always destiny for that
Haha
Since they have magic stuffs and supersoldier and ogre and elf and pretty much what u sum up earlier xd
@last anchor anyways fam u know what happened to cobra? I mean i know that uhh despite the maintenance difficulties with grizzly but army and marines still use em but what happened to the cobra thou do they retired em or we just didn’t see em deployed often
Mix of a bunch of stuff I believe.
Their manufacturing facilities being glassed, material shortages, simply not being involved in the combats we see in the games or the books.
And in recent combat the UNSC hasnt really needed them or not had them avalible.
The M12G fills the same role, but faster and cheaper.
The Spirit still has them for behind the lines defensive work most likely
I think I remember someone pointing out that the Gauss turrets in HW2 look pretty similar to the Cobra's.
Though I might be wrong on that.
So it's possible they were just cannibalized and repurposed.
Thats what happened to some of them, ye
The Dwarves in Halo built massive underground cities, using salvaged Forerunner technology that was left behind
Suggestion: put this all on a document and send it all in #471727324895641651.
Because I'm pretty sure #lore-and-universe isn't called #fan-fiction.
YEAHHHH
The cobra’s gauss uses 30mm if im not mistaken right?
But when deployed into its artilerry form 105mm?
Sounds about right
Thanks fam as usual ^~^
Any time my dude
If at the end of Spartan Ops Halsey is like "I want revenge" against the UNSC then why does she seem so compliant in H5? Or is she possibly playing the long con?
And has there been any further mention of The Key that the Librarian gave her?
@ me if you answer my question please :). I'm off to bed.
And has there been any further mention of The Key that the Librarian gave her?
@thorny wyvern
Zapped away along with the entire story arc at the end of Escalation
So they nixed that plot. But she still lost her arm?
I don't know what Escalation is to be fair
Yup. Brian Reed said he had her lose it to make it "ambiguous" whether she actually wanted revenge against the UNSC or not.
I don't know what Escalation is to be fair
Comic series that takes place between Halo 4 and Halo 5.
I see navy seals discussed above. I know one. Ran track with him in high school. Pretty sure he's still there. Maybe married to the girl I last saw him with
I wonder how Lord Hood expected chief to give the covenant back their bomb
stick a ‘return to sender’ label on it and let USPS deal with it
"Chief is going to use a longsword, right?"
Chief: permission to leave the station
Hood: for what purpose master Chief
Chief: to give the covenant back their bomb
Hood: permission granted
he looks out the window and sees chief flying off into space
@thorny wyvern she complied with jul because she just wanted to continue her research. The UNSC wouldn’t let her.
Jul also believed she wanted to help him, but it was all a con to conduct unrestricted research on the forerunner technology and requiem
Whats more funnier is lord hood’s reaction when he heard chief’s request
Hood: "What in Gods name is he trying to-no, no, Terrance, remember your blood pressure. Just...let him do it. He'll be fine. You know he'll be fine."
Hood: Permission granted.
(Chief goes by riding the bomb)
Hood: God dammit, Spartan...
What is that Hood quote from?
I made it up
xD
@last anchor HAHAHA nice one fam im sure he’s thinking like that within his mind but physically outside he just remain composed since he is the admiral xd
Well of course, wouldn't do for his subordinants to see him crack. Especially not with the teeth of a Covenant fleet bearing down on them.
Sent it via carrier pelican
Various M6 models. D, C, G, C/SOCOM, G, H, H2 mostly
The simple fact of the matter is that like all other UNSC equipment, the magnum is modular and configurable to do basically everything.
And Misrah Armories made a LOT of models of it. Including a carbine version with a stock!
It also makes sense for there to be variants anyway considering how real world weapons are
is there a lore reason why there is no dual wield in reach 4 and five
cause i miss it
No, just gameplay.
And dual-wielding being gone is for the best.
Reach's prototype MJLONIR couldn't handle the hardware link to two weapons.
They kept it for balancing in 4 and 5
smh lazy 343
TBH I never used it for anything other than machinima. It never really added anything
it would be for the best to not have it, having a plasma pistol and magnum and being able to fire both quickly makes it OP for anyone slightly decent
Cept MAYBE the Maulers
All it did was make dual-wieldable weapons pretty weak, the way they had it work previously.
Why are you throwing accusations of laziness?
imagine dual wielding ce magnums
I have before. And woke screaming to visions of tryhards spamming nothing but that
Trust me dude. Its better its gone.
noob combo is still there
well its not the same
plasma pistol and any headshot weapon
If I may postulate to those here;
The reason its gone from multiplayer in 4 and 5 is that you're a Spartan-IV. They're less intense physically than an S-II and therefor their armor isn't made for dual weilding weapons.
Leave that to the IIs
it is though
No
Plasma pistol/light rifle is hilarious
pp with hydra
Sometimes better not to try and come up with your own explaination
The reason its gone from multiplayer in 4 and 5 is that you're a Spartan-IV. They're less intense physically than an S-II and therefor their armor isn't made for dual weilding weapons.
What a story, Mark.
Palmer likes to dual wield magnums
@fair hazel you know @versed helm
No.
Yeah but thats Palmer. She gets clearance cause she's a Commander (and Captain Lasky said she could)
is cptn lasky a spartan 4
no
