#Effects of Carbine Rework on Elite Infantry

Hello, Eugen Systems and the WARNO community,

The recent WARNO update has introduced many changes, including performance changes to carbines and SMGs to enhance their gameplay in their intended "shock trait-range combat" niche. The result is an appreciable buff to several units in niche arenas, which have been overlooked due to SMG and/or carbine armament.

In addition to that, when employing carbine-wielding SOF like Spetsnaz and Mor. Spetsnaz, there's a significant decrease in time-to-kill—time spent at risk inside of the enemy's artillery/airstrike kill-chain. This rewards players' micro-management of scarce force-multipliers, which makes them even more worth taking, despite rarity and price, similar to heavy tanks, and rhymes with the elite nature of real Spetsnaz.

Because Spetsnaz are specialized, elite infantry-killers in WARNO, more expensive and rare compared to most Uzi-wielders, keeping their close-up performance ahead of engineers is apt.

However, some Divisions lack both large carbine-wielding infantry squads while also lacking flamethrowers (such as 101st Airborne) and the result is an imbalance. The damage calculator on WARYES shows:

  • [ Spetsnaz with only AKS-74U and PKM ] will kill Green Berets (ODA) 1 second faster, tested at the 500m mark, and the 350m mark for shock trait activation.
    • If RPO has ammo, no question needed; it's the selling point of the unit.
  • If both units are in motion, ODA will always lose, even if Elite Veterancy vs. Veteran Spetsnaz.
    • 27 seconds for Veteran Spetsnaz vs. 43 seconds for Elite ODA at 350m.
      • 38s vs 63s at 500m.

101st needs ODAs, Aero-scouts, Aerorifles (AT4) in many close-up situations because it lacks flamethrowers, and doesn't get any.

Suggestion is to give Green Berets Elite Veterancy to make up for disparity in cards to VDV Carbine SOF. Additional benefit to this change is that no changes are required to how the weapons themselves perform, etc., thus less side-effects.

Unrelated personal feedback on WARNO:
As someone who has played Wargame since its first title, it's very nice to see that servers are moderated. Anecdotally, there have been many amiable interactions between players in-game, as a direct result.

The game is also very fun.

PS:
Would also like to know what other changes the WARNO community might suggest, in lieu of the recent close-quarters changes. +1 card of Aerorifles AT-4? A Truck for Green Berets ODA to save points in the opener?

Green Berets Ldr. get Colt Commandos, which is pretty cool, but command squads are even less attritable and have a different strategic role.

101st doesn't need any buffs. It needs nerfs. Them not having the absolute best infantry is a good thing.
