problem solving
dms open if preferred! but this doesn't sound bad imo. and like it was done with good intentions! better than just stealing your parties stuff.
I tried to trick the big bad boss in a campaign and he flipped it on me and now the whole game is in jeopardy
this happens! hopefully your group isn't punishing/blaming you personally and just your character.
i don't know the nature of the trickery or the retribution, but maybe you can sacrifice yourself in an interesting or take "jail time" or apologize profusely and give in to BBEG's demands this time. there is an interesting, story-driven follow up.
a campaign isn't a perfect story. otherwise we'd just be writing books. it's fun, loosely controlled chaos. it's improv. what you've done might seem bad right now, but it doesnt sound malicious at all.
one time i got too drunk and fell asleep during a watch. some thief came in and stole our gold and a crucial macguffin. from then on my character was never allowed to drink, had to serve penance at temple of light or whatever, and of course chase down the thief.
But the thing is i just joined and they worked so hard to work to get where they are at now
