I feel like life is all about subscriptions now. We used to be able to just buy and own the maps, now we have to pay a subscription?? Smdh what has this world come to? They have to keep taking our money?! Just once is not enough anymore? You have to keep taking it month to month, year to year? Smdh so disappointed.

You don’t have to buy the subscription you can still buy the packs
Sandbox is a subscription you gotta buy to use but it’s not something you need to play the game normally

The subscription is an optional alternative to buying map packs to permanently own. For 1 map pack cost, you can try all of them for a month - if you're new to RISK, you see >100 maps to play - you might want to try all of them before deciding which to buy permanently?
I'm also a pro-ownership person, but I don't care if there's optional subscriptions for things you can still buy outright. And sandbox is effectively a playground (and extremely cheap as it's yearly) so don't mind that one.
