Why would you want to draw attention to yourself? I don't want my lobby to know they're about to get their ass beaten by a top ranked GM...I'm getting enough suicide slams as is. To me this just invites noobs to slam you hoping they land on a YouTube video or stream or just mess with the guy who's special or whatever lol

The verified tick can actually be toggled on/off, sometimes players will have it on when they're not playing ranked (e.g. private games / tournaments / offline) - and switch name when they disable the badge so they're more incognito.
I actually just leave my dev badge on because it's nice for players to see us playing the game too across lobbies, it does have the downside of sometimes affecting decision making of other players - but I think it balances out overall (more trusting of alliances with you, also some more aggressive/stupid decisions towards you too)
