#Risk Cheater!!?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Ya it happened to me last week in mall of the dead fixed zombies. I was snowballing had half the map. Then every time I broke this guy he had stacks of 20-50 on every territory in the bonus. Even though he had only been generating 9 a turn.
I didn't see the hundreds of troops get placed but I reported it and just got a notice that he had been suspended.
A quick search I was able to find the hack. It's been available for over 6 months so really this is on SMG for not fixing the vulnerability. While I appreciate them not price gouging like other games they could easily put a bit more effort into fixing glaring issues in their code. They still haven't fixed the bug where players 4,5, and 6 don't get bonus troops if someone flags turn 1 and that's been around since I started playing.
They don’t read feedback here or play the game so chances are they actually don’t have a clue about this still. Fastest way to contact them is via carrier pigeon 😅
Cheating reports are not handled via community chatrooms, to report cheating you need to do so in-game.
Process:
- Click the avatar of who you wish to report on the right
- Select the red triangle box on the left panel below the avatar in alliance window
- Select the reason and hit send
You will receive a reply within 30d regarding the outcome of the report.

A lqasier11 is a cheater 54 troops to his 21 then all of a sudden my game pauses he as 63 then he somehow continues to have a ridiculous amount of troops to fortify he wins by turn 6 in 5 player caps game where I had 5 bonuses behind me and him and the other 4 are fighting for the other 5 bonuses. Watched him use all his troops to attack blue then somehow still fortifies 70+ troops after he losses the cap roll
You probably should have read the post you were responding in. Especially the response that says “cheating reports are only handled in-app”
Posting cheaters identities is not a bad idea. It makes others aware…
It definitely is a bad idea. Most of the time when players think someone is cheating, they are incorrect. And even if they have reasonable suspicion, they have no way to confirm it. So publicly posting players names means that most of the time we would be blacklisting players that aren’t cheating.
And even if we had a best case scenario in which every name posted actually was cheating, it would require the individual player to either memorize or write down several names a day. And even then the players could just change their name (it takes about 10 seconds to change your Steam name).
Instead we should just have some faith that the system to catch cheaters works. It’s obviously not perfect but it does a pretty dang good job
It’s obviously not perfect. Yes, so when honest players run into a player who is using the hack to give themselves extra troops and those players are reported and people don’t hear back… what else are they supposed to do? Think happy thoughts? Nope, people want to do something or they want something done. Posting at least gives them a sense of trying to help others out and I am 100 supportive of it.
I’ve run into a couple hackers and I have always gotten the message that they were banned within a day. The in game reporting system and the board state monitor do a good job. And even if you did happen to end up playing a hacker, that you potentially could have seen and remembered their name from some forum, you get your points back for playing them anyway
I have also gotten the ban messages. However, it's concerning that no larger action has been taken to stop these exploits. I think that's my biggest problem.
Yes, there will always be people trying to break the game and bugs in the game. But banning people is not enough, they should also work to fix their game and plug the holes.
They are? You can only do so much when the game is hosted on the players devices. That’s a huge reason why they have been working on the network overhaul. Moving the game from players computer to their own will not only make it much more difficult for hackers, but should get rid of all of the disconnection/reconnection problems as well as the various bugs
Are they? When was that upgrade supposed to be completed and rolled out? (And I’m talking about the first time it was discussed.) and then it was pushed back, and back again, and back again. At this point, I think there is only one gerbil running on that wheel, and that this “upgrade” is the last item on their to-do list. It’s sad that the transition to their severs are taking so long. Imagine how many players who came to Risk have left for one reason or another that if the upgrade had been completed and several issues were resolved, might have stayed around…
Here’s the response I received from Stew (a Senior Developer) when I asked about the status yesterday:
“The short boring answer is we're still working on it. Its been a massive project to develop and will involve a major amount of QA testing, especially with a small team who is still working on maintaining the game and semi-regular content updates.
The network overhaul encompasses a huge body of work because we refactored virtually all gameplay code to be able to run on a server, not to mention an entirely new networking layer, so while we are confident we'll be beta testing the networking overhaul by December, that beta process might take longer than we anticipate as we don't want to release it to the full player base until we're sure it's ready so we don't upset the many games of Risk that are played every day.
As you say, this is a lot later than we wanted but we get one shot at this and want to do it right.
We're all really keen to get the overhaul out the door so we can tackle some of the features it will make possible - stuff long requested that we've been unable to hit under our current networking. Realistically that feature set will be from 2025 onwards, and we'll be talking about them more post beta.
Last month we started talking more about the process and plan to keep doing it through the year, you can find out more about it here.”
Personally I’m with you. I think it’s crazy they said it was coming out in June when it was never even close to coming out at that point. But I believe they truly are spending most of their time on it. I mean I have no idea what else they would be doing. Id rather they take longer and do it right then end up with a system that has more problems than the current one.
I personally don’t think anyone is TRULY leaving because of some bugs. People don’t play a game because it’s bug free. They play Risk because they like the game. If they say they are leaving because of the “Cheaters and Bugs” then they simply didn’t like the game and wouldn’t have stayed if there were no bugs or cheaters. They just want to complain
Last summer, several people left with all of the issues that were happening then. No doubt about it. Most people’s ratings points were incorrect and if you have a good memory, frustration level was extremely high, and several players said, “I’m done playing until the game is more stable.” How many of those actually left, neither of us know that number, but remember that the ones who are on this Discord are a minority of players who experienced those issues.
Again, I don’t think the bugs are truly the reason why people leave. They might be the cherry on top, but they aren’t the reason people leave. Also every person I’ve met who posts stuff like that on Reddit and discord continues to play and post the same stuff over and over. So I kinda find that irrelevant.
