oh, well idk why this one auto worked as a thread but ok, here's the sketches lol
drafts
mostly research
and failed time management of two other map ideas for map pack lol
A cyberpunk city plus planned advanced version
and solarpunk city maps
Extra inconsequential Story time~
I originally was just going to spectate the competition because it sounded interesting as a lover of maps on risk haha—it’s all I buy. But then a week ago, a punk city theme map idea struck me, so I thought why not, gives me a chance to do something new and whip out the old graphic devices and programs, some I haven’t used in years. But I couldn’t find my graphic tablet pen for the life of me so I almost gave up today when starting the digital process (idk why I didn’t think to look for it earlier in the week…), but remembered Affinity designer and the pen tool I thought with a trackpad might be ok. But then I found my tablet pen and switched to csp, and then encountered Word difficulties converting to pdf, yay! Well, the whole experience was so janky and last minute haha but it was fun! 😊 This Steampunk City map is my only submission, but hopefully I can revisit to make it better/add additional optionals as well as actually finish the other two punk maps. xD
G’luck and good work to all participants and thanks for looking and reading!
OMG I just realized I forgot to add this to the pdf file gahh
it's optional stuff but still, oop--- 😅
another edit realization: I count 74 territories now smh, how even did I math---
(literally thought when I counted 70 at first, that it couldn't be that perfectly whole 😭 😂)
Very fun map. You definitely seem like an artist. I can see some interesting choke-points with blizzards turned on. What are the pink points of interest?
Thank you! :D Yes, I've loved making art since a kid, but I only recently this year tried getting back into it after years during uni and after not having done any. Despite being rusty, I found it more difficult than anticipated translating the city scenery and buildings in my head into a bird's eye view as a map. That and trying to incorporate verticality which all 3 original punk city ideas had.
The pdf file has a few of the territory names, so I'll repost those pictures here. If I had time-managed better haha, those points of interest were have visual depictions hovering over them like those in the 28 days risk map.
Edit: Also thank you for looking through everyone's designs and commentating, that's awesome of you to provide feedback and encouragement!
Also for any interested:
Some "lore" behind the points of interest, I attempted to make placement according to a functional city. So the train roads divide the richer upper versus lower halves as clear class distinction. The upper half has a larger plaza compared to the smaller lower square for people to gather for events. The upper also has the clock tower close to the plaza, and an amphitheatre across the bridge over the train roads for everyone to gather for big events, and nearby the grand library for both the mage tower and castle to access. The yellow section has the factories, slums, and sewers, and the gear part I imagine is the mystique of the city with steam and mechanized power running the city.
There's more "backstory" on each area, but since I ran out of time, rather than giving an unfinished list, I only included these 3 continents as they might be the most confusing and interesting of the bunch.
