If you ever played super mario maker on Nintendo, within the bounds of what the app could potentially handle.
For those of you not familiar with Super Mario Maker, it is a game that allows players to create their own levels, and, if they choose, share them with the community.
So two things I would like to address, which I think would be important to point out.
- Now I understand Risk devs risk losing revenue if they allow users to make their own maps, which would mean less interest in purchasing their content.
Also, there is a cost to create this feature, and the impact on any ongoing infrastructure costs to maintain this feature. So charging users, reasonably, is unavoidable from a budget and revenue perspective.
So possible solutions would be to either charge each user per map created. Not going to suggest a price, because that's not my business. And I am only talking about price to the extent that I understand that my suggestion comes at a cost to the devs so pricing should, at minimum, be acknowledged within my suggestion. In addition to charge users per map, perhaps, charge for each upload. Should the maps be free to the community at that point? Again, pricing, if any at this point, is not my business.
- The options within the user map making feature would grow over time. I think, to point to the obvious, it's going to be a process of learning what works, what doesn't, and what ideas come from the community. So it probably will take some time for the devs to get this feature at the sweet spot of intuitiveness and pushing toward its creativity limits.
I imagine this isn't the first time something similar has been discussed, but I didn't find anything within themain forum chatroom and wanted to know what others thought.
Thanks.
