#Longer turn timers

I hope ur sarcastic
I undestand the idea. It is about making long games like in chess possible where you think about your move precisely before executing it. It could be cool to have something like this, but first of all the games are gonna take forever and second of all unless you are able to play other games on that account aswell no one will play it cause they would be limited to one game that might take half a year. (SMG probably cant handle it either)
Warzone Risk has asynchronous games, where you can start a few online games (each one has 24h timer), and get a notification for each one once it’s your turn.
Some players there have 100s of these games running at once.
Stalling could get weird in ranked, so maybe they could try it just in play friends here first.
very nice idea - but i think its out of the buisness modell of SMG
You could also send moves and dice per snail mail, that should make it exciting
Yeah, It would last weeks for 1 or 2 points lul
progressive caps on a huge map
This would definitely need to be an entirely different style of Risk. It wouldn’t be possible under the current multiplayer model. There’s lots of settings you can play though that don’t take egregious amounts of time. Plenty of settings only take ~30 minutes. 1v1 also doesn’t take much time
There is also blitz chess. But some people like mail chess. Thats no argument against the idea imho.
Other people want this idea too
Assuming six players, and each player goes once a day, a progressive game would probably last a couple weeks but fixed could last months and months, I bet a fixed game could last even a year.
"I finally won that fixed game i told you about!"
"Huh? I dont remember it?!"
"You dumb boi, i told you like 5 years ago! You cant even remember a simple thing!"
Longer turn timers (or even 'infinite') is FINE for private games, imagine if you could play tournament games at any time you like (with some limitations for end time)
It'd also be great for friends that are in different timezones and don't want someone up early / someone else up late just to play - can just make moves within 24 / 48h, or on weekends only - whenever you like.
It's something that won't be possible before our networking overhaul, however - if you'd like to see it added I'd suggest adding it in #risk_ideas for after it is possible
There is one down side, if someone is losing and there’s pretty much no chance of coming back, they might intentionally never take their turn, or wait until the last minute to take it
What if someone misses their 24h turn?
They surrender an go MIA
"I bet a fixed game could last even a year."
Thats no negative aspect, thats what its about.
imagine simul risk 😮
(GM's playing 100 1v1s at the same time for example)
Would be interesting, even for the same game, to see it played out in multiple branches from dice outcomes, since after certain big rolls, a lot can change
Definitely, I also thought about a tournament with manual placement, that could add so much more cool stuff
Did you mean: GM's farming 100 noobs at once
yep
Yep not sarcastic at all. Definitely get that’s a lot of network capability but the way the games are now (not including 1v1 or speed blitz etc) I don’t have as often to sit around for hours straight to play games, so even hour long turn timers would be legit. Doesn’t have to be as long as 24hr
