Hey folks. I only have 200 hours in the game and I really enjoy it. But I just feel like classic games tend to stalemate, while progressive games are often decided by turn order.
This is not a serious suggestion, just something abstract in my mind that I'd like to discuss with you!

So here is my idea:

The Fixed Progressive Hybrid.

  • Cards give the same bonuses as they do in fixed.
  • Add +3 troop for every trade you did.
  • Other's players trades do not increase your bonus.

So if you have a perfect trade you'll get 10 the first time. The next time you'll get 13 then 16 etc.
The purpose of only increasing your trades by yourself are two main reasons.

  • No weird card skipping stuff going on.
  • Killing players is actually valuable since you get cards and your permanent bonus will be slightly higher as the other player's bonus.

Please don't rambo me too hard for that. I don't ask for that to be implemented. I'm just curious what you guys think about it.

Sincerely Mr Buzz

Sounds like a solid expansion of the game. I think I posted within the last couple weeks about new card options being a good way to expand the variety of game types available and this would certainly fit the bill!

It would have to be play tested to see if that +3 +3 +3… cumulative trade booster is the right number, but the game mechanic would certainly be interesting to try out.

Your idea would pair very well with the idea of a bigger or unlimited card hold (though unlimited creates problems with deck starvation) as a bigger card hold would mean you could wait and maximize the number of ten trades and territory bonuses you trade in for but also you could cash in to add up to multiple boosters at once. Of course holding a lot of cards would also drastically increase your value as a kill which would make for a very interesting strategic game.

Your hybrid cards is a very solid idea. The cumulative trade number based on a single players trade ins alone not the total trades made… just on its own is revolutionary.

I’d suggest that you workshop it a bit and get that number just right (maybe you’re correct at three maybe it should be an increasing scale) then pop this in risk-ideas

add it to risk-ideas when you’ve got the wording just right (I think what you wrote is pretty damn clear, so maybe go with what you’ve got). I hate to see good ideas go down in flames in the voting just because how they are worded.

To prevent the deck starvation issue (or at least, reduce it) - players could just have their own deck array
[Player1][card1,card4,card7,card...]
[Player2][card1,card2,card3]
So rather than everyone pulling from the same deck, they're pulling from their own copy of the same deck

It'd mean rather than splitting cards by 5 players you'd have them to yourself 🙂

That said it'd still look horrific if you'd trade in 20 cards for 200+ troops, then eliminate the next player for their 25 cards and 250+ troops, etc. 😄

The best similar one I'd seen was on a console version of RISK that uses stars - collect card & given a star (and it's returned to deck, but you keep that star)
If you own the randomly assigned territory on the card when you collect it, you get 2 stars instead of 1

You then have
• territory upgrades you can buy (resource tower=extra star per turn, missile silo=luck-based attack in your favour against a nearby territory, strong point=+1 to highest defending dice)
• can trade in for troops (up to 30, with a cap of 20 stars) - but it's more valuable to improve territories you hold with defences, offences or resources so you can reach the cap faster, and trade in for higher numbers of troops faster

Having territory upgrades could be quite chaotic for a cross-platform game (as may need different UI designs depending on a mobile Vs a pc for example) - but it could just be an "at start or end of draft phase, select a territory to upgrade (can upgrade one at a time, as many as you can afford to) - and end or start troop draft phase when you're done"

So, would need to be positioned in the right place & designed to be usable across all screen sizes, but would be possible (and a great feature for tournaments for example! - can only build offensive positions in this game, only defensive in this game, etc) - would really change the map balance for any map, maybe even overcoming simple worlds 6 player stalemates 😂

Wondering how chaotic it could make progressive classic too, about to go make a domino killstreak & 4 of the players place a defensive position beside your stack 😂
