I understand this is a family friendly server. As discords user age requirement is 13, it’s safe to assume 13 year olds have heard, or say, swear words, as PG-13 movies allow “mild to moderate coarse language, and infrequent use of the word f..k.”
I understand auto-deleting the very harsh slurs. But not being able to say “sh.t, d.mn, h.ll”? excessive. Also, removing the ability to use custom reactions and stickers?
The new rules have removed 2 huge methods of communication and self expression. Not to mention 5 second slow mode puts a harsh on conversation. I was staff in this server, and one of the most active members for a while, and i don’t even want to chat here anymore because these restrictions make conversation feel like boring, surface level, impersonal water-cooler talk.

• bring back multi-server reaction emojis and stickers
• allow people to speak freely with the exceptions of slurs and personal attacks
• change the slow mode to 3s

the server is mostly dead, half the activity is for the tournaments and even then people prefer communicating in other servers more.

Hear what you’re saying… I agree about the slow mode, but with the exception of mee6 occasionally mistaking longer posts for spam and deleting them without mercy, I feel like people are able to speak freely here. The four letter words that you say you can’t say… it seems like you just managed to type them in a way that we all could read just fine and those kind of slight codings might seem silly but I don’t think that’s a cramp of free speech if anything it provokes creativity. I think the server has gotten slightly more busy over the last couple months, but I continue to be bummed about the loss of risk-ideas**-discussion** and map-ideas sections and other content that gave the community a sense of history.

my thing is, nobody has to use the spicy 4 letter words. but if they choose to, they should be allowed to. so long as it isn’t used in an attacking way. i should be allowed to say
“it smells like sh_t” however, not allowed to say “you’re a piece of sh_t”.

if it’s used in a non inflammatory, conversational way? there is no issue with it.

I could say “I don’t give a bad word starting with f what you think” 🤓 but actually I get your point and agree. I’m just saying that you did manage to “say” those things because I read them despite the missing letter. The loss of those letters might be worth it if it allows for a broader age range of users and temperaments feeling comfortable to spend time on the server. But I guess I’ve never had messages deleted for unacceptable language… I guess I will feel stunted when that happens. Not sure how the bot and staff handle it since I have seen many examples of harsh language… maybe they were all coded and slipped by. I like your PG-13 example but I think this kind of coding of certain words is our version of maintaining a PG / PG-13 rating.

Oh and BTW “discord-ideas” is another of the recently removed threads (is that the right word?). We would have been having this conversation there just a few weeks ago. I hope the more orderly world promised is worth the loss of access to previous posts, haven’t seen that to be the case yet. One minute or more slow mode had me just now, but I now know better than to try to edit previous posts to add more and more… mee6 no like that.

yes, it is a removed channel/thread thing. they’re constantly collapsing and expanding the channels and adding new ones, i do wish they would maintain some continuity or provide a similar channel if they’re going to condense/remove one

I hear you! I would like to try pushing for getting common swear words whitelisted. It’s part of my daily language also 😆

External emojis are currently restricted to active T3 & Nitro Boosters, however I do think it would be great to allow it for premium users and perhaps the other Active roles as well. External stickers aren’t currently enabled for any roles, but I don’t see why it couldn’t be enabled for specific ones. We can’t allow just anyone to have this permission due to the risk of NSFW emotes/stickers being shared, but restricting it entirely isn’t ideal 😅

As for slowmode, that would need to be discussed, if anything all of the suggestions here would involve a staff discussion before any decisions are made

The channels are currently available from the Channels & Roles section at the top of channel list - last section - Archive

We're looking at a way to transfer these across to #1020346802236555365 , #1055409179046711306 , and #1055414450896781313 through a bot in future, in the meantime though they'll all be available there.

The reason we've had to condense down on channels is to implement the Community Onboarding feature, this lets new members pick which roles they want along with channels, the problem was that we massively exceed the channel limit for that, alongside a lot of these channels being very inactive. Merging these ensures that they're each more active individually and can see new posts/comments anytime you visit

I see what you are saying Emmuhleee. However, I humbly disagree. I feel it is much better to filter out common profanity or slurs verse allowing them.

How much of the community is still not in adulthood? We don't need profanity to get our points across. We can still be relaxed, without these words.

I don't really mind the Slowmodes either. They seem to be appropriately selected for each channel they are applied toward.

I don't believe these are the reasons this server is "dead", as you say.

well frankly my right to express myself isnt contingent on whether you agree with the use of profanity or not. i don’t need profanity, it’s how i as an adult choose to express myself. i speak the same way i type and i say the f word, and various other lovely words, a lot. i shouldn’t be forced to censor myself because someone disagrees with how i express myself

edit to add: a HUGE portion of the community is under 18. huge. half the staff is teenagers.

The game is supposed to be family friendly and this discord server is linked from in game. On some level this means this server is an extension of the game.

You can behave, and express yourself the way you wish at home. However, is that the case here in this server?

why shouldn’t it be? why do you get a say so because you can’t handle someone expressing themselves with profanity? also, family friendly is still 13+. PG13 ratings allow profanity.

I am just trying to express myself as well, and voice my opinion. This is to let those who do make the call around here how I feel about your suggestion.

The F word used to be thrown around here a lot. I am not as comfortable with that as you are, apparently. I again stress that it is probably just better to filter all profanity out, than allowing all of it.

they are at minimum 13. they’re using the same language if not worse. profanity is a regular part of my daily vocabulary, at home, at work, in school. it’s how i, as an adult, choose to express myself.

If everyone on the server was respectful, relaxing rules would be easy, but trolls make it harder, especially when they’re so common e.g. today alone our newest member of staff needed to make 4 bans.

Adding more dangerous perms to members is great when good members use them respectfully, but can backfire when bad members abuse them to mistreat others

Super cool! Thanks for the thorough explanation… I look forward to wandering through the archive and if I find enough time and motivation I might write up a brief on the history of interesting risk ideas… and what kind of ideas eventually got implemented into the game and what gems are still out there.

“random trolls” are a truly frightening prospect! They could show up anywhere and do anything. If I find one in my breakfast cereal I will undoubtedly use several words that are not safe for this server. (10 minute + cool down in this thread… embarrassing amount of time… can’t I write a funnier post with this extra time… can’t I find a better direction for my life… can’t I find the right words to rekindle my romance with MEE6? There’s always a balance between the harm extra perms allow, vs the benefit they bring, so naturally there’ll be a range of opinions, and no perfect solution that pleases everyone.

If I can find a date for when the new automod was added, it would be useful to see in server insights if retention has improved or declined since its introduction, since there’s a lot of detailed data available there.
