Just need to rant after a week of frustration... I'm about done caring about the rankings, and maybe playing this game online altogether. I was a Grandmaster (exclusively with the normal world map on World Domination, no cheating, and this is my only account), and suddenly I have days of either getting suicided and harassed by idiots and collaborative players, or of playing long games that last hourrrrs with awesome players who turn out to just be "Novices" and "Beginners," which means these are likely more good players making extra accounts. I'm saying that 1 or more of these things has happened in nearly every game. I'm a defensive non-aggressive player, so I don't think I'm warranting most of the suicides.
Within days my score is nearly halved and I'm just an Expert! It took forever to grind up, only to get effed after a few skewed games (maybe 8ish?). You go on Reddit hearing Grandmasters openly talking about all their different accounts, and I can't tell that those who run the game do anything to find people cheating or permanently suspend accounts or whatever.
The ranking system is flawed, or doesn't have good validity. If it incentivizes or rewards those who cheat and/or limit themselves to easy maps, the Capital Conquest style, sneakily loading games with AI, etc., while good straightforward players who play the game as it's meant to be played do not and instead get knocked down so easily and quickly, that system is totally broken and invalid. Until it's fixed, I don't see the point other than the game itself (which hasn't been that much fun with all the jerks and BS). I've been playing online for a little over a year, lifelong Risk player.
