#Assigning variables to maps & settings

I'm curious how a point system would look for establishing a "luck factor" / "skill factor" in games, would there need to be different metrics to track them?

E.g
Manual Placement Vs Auto Placement
Manual Placement - less luck (-value)
Auto Placement - more luck (+value)

It's a little different for other settings though, e.g Fog of War:
On - more luck BUT more skill factor?
Off - less luck BUT less skill factor?
There's less variables to consider with no fog, however there are more unknowns in fog - making it quite different.

The skill factor is quite tricky to gauge (More nuanced modes like Zombie Apocalypse may be higher while also having more luck factor)

Card Type is also a more controversial one as it's more dependant on other players behaviour (luck factor?) - so Progressive cards can be a quick elimination whereas Fixed cards can be much longer but more reliant on how others play.

Settings may also be dependant on other settings for how much it'd impact (e.g Simple world fixed or progressive caps is pretty identical) 🥳 just not very enjoyable 🥲

Anyway some food for thought 😄

Every settings has different kinds of luck and skill. The biggest luck factor in every game is the behaviour of your opponents, because you have very limited influence on that. In a good neighbour game you have way more chances to show off skill, because you have more troops to use.
That is even more important in fog. Experienced players can "see" through fog, just some troop numbers are uncertain. If you have players in your game that don't have that skill, and allow someone to outgrow the whole board that is bad luck for you.
Getting a good auto setup is luck, but being able to cope with a bad spawn is skill, or embracing a good spawn is skill.
Progressive and Fixed need very different mind sets, and those change even more in combination with caps or zombies.
In general I would say settings where your influence on the game is higher is more skill reliant. For example 1v1 simple world prog caps fog blizzards manual BB, is 90% skill and 10% luck.
1v1 Spaceport Sigma auto fixed true random 70% is 90% luck and 10% skill.
